LEAVEN

ffTake Heed, Beware Of The Leaven?

Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat.  Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”  And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have no bread.”   But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened?  “Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?  “When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”  “Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?” And they said, “Seven.”  So He said to them, “How is it you do not understand?” Mark 8:14-19

The American Heritage Dictionary defines ‘leaven’ as:

leav·en n. 1. An agent, such as yeast, that causes batter or dough to rise, especially by fermentation. 2. An element, influence, or agent that works subtly to lighten, enliven, or modify a whole.

So we see that leaven is an element, influence, or agent that works subtly to lighten, enliven, or modify a whole, and that includes our thinking and our doctrines. Jesus warned us that religious leaders of His day and our day could with a little bit of leaven subtly modify the Word of God to make it useless to us! As a result many become deceived and destroyed for not only lack of knowledge but wrong knowledge. God’s word is unchanging:

“For false Christ’s and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,  speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.  For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;  for it is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer. 1 Timothy 4:1-5

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:  For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,  unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,  traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,  having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!  For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts,  always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Timothy 3:1-7

Yes, we are to turn away from those who have departed from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,  speaking lies in hypocrisy and now preach heresies, things  contrary to the Word of God.  Yes, we are to turn away from those  having a form of godliness but deny its power,  always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth even if they are pastors and preachers.

JOHN WARWICK MONTGOMERY [i] is considered by many to be the foremost living apologist for biblical Christianity. A renaissance scholar with a flair for controversy, he lives in France, England and the United States. His international activities have brought him into personal contact with some of the most exciting events of our time: not only was he in China In June 1989, but he was In Fiji during its 1987 bloodless revolution, was involved in assisting East Germans to escape during the time of the Berlin Wall, and was in Paris during the ‘days of May’ 1968. Dr. Montgomery is the author of more than forty books in five languages. He holds ten earned degrees, Including a Master of Philosophy in Law from the University of Essex, England, a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, a Doctorate of the University in Protestant Theology from the University of Strasbourg, France, and the higher doctorate (LL.D.) from Cardiff University, Wales. He is an ordained Lutheran clergyman, an English barrister, and is admitted to practise as a lawyer before the Supreme Court of the United States and inscrit au Barreau de Strasbourg, France. He obtained acquittals for the ‘Athens 3’ missionaries on charges of proselytism at the Greek Court of Appeals in 1986 and won the leading religious liberty cases of Larissis v. Greece and Bessarabian Orthodox Church v. Moldova before the European Court of Human Rights. As a result of his victory in the latter case, he was presented with the Patriarch’s Medal by the Patriarch of the Roumanian Orthodox Church (October, 2003).

Dr. Montgomery is author of over one hundred scholarly journal articles and more than forty books in English, French, Spanish and German. He is internationally regarded both as a theologian (his debates with the late Bishop James Pike, death-of-God advocate Thomas Altizer, and situation-ethicist Joseph Fletcher are historic) and as a lawyer (barrister-at-law of the Middle Temple and Lincoln’s Inn, England; member of the California, Virginia, Washington State, and District of Columbia Bars and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States). He is one of only six persons to have received the Diploma of the International Institute of Human Rights cum laude, and was the Institute’s Director of Studies from 1979 to 1981.[ii]

If we examine how John W. Montgomery  handled a false prophet Bishop James A. Pike compared to Southern Baptist Pastor and Evangelist Billy Graham we will be surprised.  For the record in his 1959 San Francisco Crusade, Billy Graham honored the notorious liberal Bishop James A. Pike by having him lead in prayer. Graham had attended Pike’s consecration at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral on May 15, 1958. [iii] (Pike would also have been involved in Graham’s 1957 New York Crusade, as he was the dean of the extremely modernistic Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York from 1952 to 1958. )

James Pike was a brilliant man, raised as a Roman Catholic and trained as a lawyer. He became an Episcopalian after the war and pursued ordination in the Episcopal Church, eventually becoming dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City in 1952. In 1958 he was elected Bishop Coadjutor of the Diocese of California, and his election narrowly received confirmation because he had divorced and re-married (this was before episcopal permission for re-marriage was allowed). He became known more and more for outspoken views on the irrelevance of classical doctrines such as the Trinity and the virginal conception of Jesus.

Pike’s mediagenic personality and brilliant arguments made him the darling of some and the devil of others. His personal life gradually came apart when his son committed suicide in 1966. Pike started a highly public quest to contact his son through spiritualism. He divorced and re-married again. Many people who knew him have told me they believe he began a slide into manic depression.[iv]

Yet, Pike was a rank, unbelieving Modernist, a drunkard, an adulterer. He denied the Trinity and refused to state the traditional benediction, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, Amen!” He abbreviated this to “In the name of God, Amen!” Three times Pike was brought up on heresy charges in the Episcopal Church. In an article in Look magazine Pike stated that he did not believe the fundamentals of the faith. In a pastoral letter that was to be read in all the Episcopal Churches of his diocese, Pike stated that “religious myth is one of the avenues of faith and has an important place in the communication of the Gospel.” He spoke of the “myth of the Garden of Eden.” He said, “The virgin birth… is a myth which churchmen should be free to accept or reject.” In an article in Christian Century, Dec. 21, 1960,  Pike declared that he no longer believed the doctrines stated in the Apostles’ Creed. The same month that article appeared Graham again joined Pike at his Grace Cathedral for a Christian Men’s Assembly sponsored by the National Council of Churches. Three times Pike was picked up by San Francisco police while he was wandering around in a drunken, confused state late at night. He spent four years in intensive psychoanalysis. Pike was twice divorced, thrice married, and had at least three mistresses. One of his mistresses committed suicide; one of his daughters attempted suicide. After his eldest son committed suicide in 1966 at age 20, Pike got deeply involved in the occult in an attempt to communicate with the deceased.

In 1967, Pike died from a 70-foot fall in a remote canyon in the Israeli desert near the Dead Sea. His maggot infested body was found five days later. The 56-year-old theologian had gotten lost in the desert while on an extended honeymoon with his 31-year-old third wife. A biography about Pike noted that “never before in the history of the Episcopal Church had a Solemn Requiem Mass been offered for a bishop in the presence of three surviving wives” [v]

John W. Montgomery actions with Bishop Pike were different that that of Billy Graham. In the SIXTIES, during the “God is dead” movement, Dr. John W. Montgomery came into prominence. He was and is a renowned Biblical scholar with numerous degrees and an obvious brilliant mind, and a “who’s who” in America at that time. He was invited to openly debate Bishop Pike, on a Chicago University Campus, which was televised. He literally tore the Bishop’s theology apart.  His critics were upset and protested at how he destroyed Bishop Pike during the debate. Even though God’s word states that they should be destroyed:

He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,  And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. Isaiah 11:4

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 Peter 2:1

I was to have the privilege of meeting Dr. John Montgomery when he came to our university for a week of Evangelism. It was sponsored by the university’s Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship club where I was on the executive committee. I personally  asked John the following question, “As a Christian how could you do what you did to Bishop Pike?” He answered, “Easily, and I would gladly do it again to anyone who was a false prophet and had hurt and deceived so many people.”

Jesus didn’t bless the religious and political leaders of His day but rather He cursed them. “Woe to you” doesn’t mean “something good is going to happen to you?” God’s word is unchanging about deceived religious leaders of our day such Jim Bakker, Henry J. Lyons  and Billy Graham  who called themselves—men of God:

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.  “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. Matthew 23:13-15

A real Man of God doesn’t lie, steal, is not cowardly or fearful, because he is truthful, bold and full of courage. These things are done by those who belong to the other family and not to God’s family. A real man of God doesn’t support rapists, liars and thieves or have them as His friends.

Those who walk in the flesh will demonstrate the works of the flesh  adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like. Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God even if their name is Ned Graham, the son of Billy Graham.  Here are the modernists and apostates with whom Billy Graham has fellowshipped, and used in his crusades:

  • Henry Van Dusen Union Theological Seminary
  • Bishop James Pike, episcopal bishop
  • John Sutherland Bonnell
  • Robert McCracken, Minister of Riverside Church, New York
  • Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, Archbishop of Canterbury
  • Dr. Fred Townley Lord, British Methodist
  • Dr. Bertram Simpson, Bishop of Southwark
  • Dr. E.A. Payne, General Secretary of British Baptist Union
  • Bishop Gerald Kennedy, Methodist
  • Dr. Jesse Baird
  • Dr. Stanley E. Jones
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Modernist in theology.

The Lord Jesus said, ‘If ye love Me, keep My commandments’. (John 14:15). God has said, ‘To the law and to the testimony if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them’. (Isa 8:20).  The scriptures are very clear about not having fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them  (Ephesians 5:11).  God’s word is very clear as to how we are to handle and deal with false prophets and those who support them:

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.  Corinthians 6:14-18

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.  If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;  for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds. 2 John 1:9-11

But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us. 2 Thessalonians 3:6

“Ephraim is joined to idols,  Let him alone. Their drink is rebellion,  They commit harlotry continually.  Her rulers dearly love dishonor. Hosea 4:17-18

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.  And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 2 Peter 2:1-2

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,  he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,  useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself. 1 Timothy 6:3-5

Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. Romans 16:17

And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. Revelation 18:4

It is a fact that many of God’s people have received plagues of the judgments of others because they shared in the sins of others just like Oral Roberts did when he supported and defended Jim Bakker. In an interview on “The Larry King Show,” Swaggart claimed that Bakker’s downfall represented a “very glad day, because this cancer has been excised that I feel has caused the body of Christ untold reproach. ‘ [vi] These comments aroused Oral Roberts’s ire, and he blasted Swaggart while defending Bakker. Foolish Oral Roberts forgave and defended Jim Bakker for something that was not forgivable. God does not forgive those who rob, rape and murder in the house of God as Eli and his two sons were not forgiven. Something that is in the very bible that they sometime use and is true.

Oral Roberts forgave his friend, Jim Bakker, for robbing and raping in the house of God. Roberts made large contributions to the Praise the Lord (PTL) ministry of Jim and Tammy Bakker when they fell into hard times during the 1987 scandal. (Sara Diamond, Spiritual Warfare (Boston, MA: South End Press, 1989). Then he wondered why the City of Faith of faith was not finished, the law school was not accredited and ORU incurred a 40 million dollar debt.

– Falwell called Bakker a liar, an embezzler and sexual deviate. He fired Bakker’s entire staff when he took over Praise the Lord show. Falwell bankrupted the PTL Club calling Bakker “the greatest scab and cancer on the face of Christianity in two thousand years of church history”

But Jim Bakker won’t have to pay $120 million to former followers who bought “partnerships” in his PTL tele-ministry. A jury in North Carolina on July 23, 1996 threw out a class action suit brought on behalf of more than 160,000 onetime believers who paid as much as $7,000 each in the ’80s to join Jim and Tammy Faye in holy larceny.

However the Internal Revenue Service says Bakker and Messner owe personal income taxes from the 1980s when they were building their Praise The Lord empire reported the Charlotte Observer. The IRS assessed the taxes after revoking the PTL ministry’s nonprofit status, said Roe Messner, Tammy Faye’s husband since 1993.

Tammy Faye Messner new husband said Jim Bakker and his former wife didn’t want to talk about the tax issues. “We don’t want to stir the pot,” Messner said. He said the original tax amount was about $500,000. Penalties and interest account for the rest of the bill. The notices reinstating the liens list “James O. and Tamara F. Bakker” as owing $3 million.

Jim Bakker nor the Assembly of God with whom he was ordained have never publicly discussed or dealt with the fact that Jim Bakker was Bi-sexual or that his real lover was a man! Although a contrite Jim Bakker returned to his childhood church to ask forgiveness, he never talked about David Taggart his great male lover! Bakker, the founder on the now non existent PTL Club and Village, has downplayed the role of the bisexual evangelist John Wesley Fletcher, who arranged his tryst with Jessica Hahn. He hardly talks about James and David Taggart, the brothers who many claim controlled Bakker in his final PTL years Fletcher was bitter and said Bakker had failed to keep promises and had forsaken him during tough times. Fletcher stated during the “Pearlygate” media storm that he, too, had been sexually involved with bisexual Bakker, reported Christianity Today.  [vii]

The Bakkers declined to meet their accusers. Jerry Falwell offered them that opportunity; so did the elders of the Assemblies of God, which conducted their own inquiry. When Bakker declined to appear before his district presbytery to face charges, the Assemblies of God dismissed him for “conduct unbecoming to a minister.” Reverend G. Raymond Carlson, general superintendent of the church, said the “alleged misconduct involving bisexual activity” weighed heavily in the decision to unfrock Bakker.  Carlson noted further that the word alleged was used because Bakker did not wish to defend himself.

For many people, allegations of misappropriating PTL resources for their own personal use and the payment of huge salaries and bonuses were far more serious charges than the allegations of sexual misconduct.

The Bakkers had appointed a rubber-stamp board of directors to oversee their management practices. In return for acquiescing to Jim and Tammy’s whims, several of these board members received tens of thousands of dollars in fees, bonuses, and contributions to their own projects.

In 1986 the Bakkers were paid $1.9 million; since 1984, a total of $4.8 million had been paid to them. In addition, PTL monies were used for expensive homes, a palatial suite at the Heritage Grand Hotel, automobiles, lavish wardrobes, vacations, and parties.

The Bakkers’ closest associates were privy to their high living at the expense of PTL partners. They, too, were well paid. Reverend Richard Dortch, the Assemblies of God minister who many thought had brought some order and organization to the rapidly growing Heritage USA operations, was paid $240,000 in 1985 and $350,000 in 1986. He received approximately $270,000 during the first three months of 1987 before Falwell sacked him. David Taggart, a twenty-nine-year-old “personal aide” to Bakker, received $360,000 in 1986; Jim Bakker’s personal secretary received $160,000.

And then there were “consultants.” James Taggart, interior decorator and David Taggart’s brother, was paid $10,000 a month, but, according to the new PTL management, he had performed no services “for months.”‘ Peter B. Teeley, press secretary to George Bush until 1984, was paid $120,000 for eighteen months to serve as a Washington “liaison”; apparently there were no written records of any services performed. [viii]

Jackie Alnor (Host of the weekly blogtalk program, Apostasy Alert, on the Rapture Ready Radio network. Archives: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/rapturereadyradio) wrote on January 15, 2012 about Billy Graham and J.W. Montgomery

What a mouthful Walt – I agree with you in theory – but you lift up the name of John Warlike Montgomery – a man who was driven out of his own ministry due to his abuse of his staff and his family. I was his secretary back in 1986-87 and watched it all unfold. He secretly divorced his wife while he was living with her by signer her name to the divorce papers and she found out she was divorced when she found the papers and had it overturned for fraud. Then he divorced her legally married another woman who he tries to pass off as his original wife. So much could be said – but all I can say is you’re lifting up a wolf without knowing it.

I now all about him – and apparently more than you. I knew him close and personal – don’t promote him on my facebook. Walter Martin used to say of him, “John Montgomery is the leading Christian scholar alive today, and he’d be alright if he would just get born again.” He is also a drunk!

So you show me Walt – where it is ok for a Christian leader to divorce his Christian wife and mother of his children and marry someone else and still be in leadership.

POOR BLIND AND NAKED

ACJESUS TOLD BLIND IGNORANT DEMONIZED CHRISTIANS THAT THEY WERE WRETCHED, MISERABLE, POOR, BLIND AND NAKED AND NEEDED TO BE ZEALOUS AND REPENT

REVELATIONS 3:14    “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God:
15    “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
16    So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
17    Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ — and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked —
18    I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
19    As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
20    Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
21    To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
22    “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ‘ ”

OFF THE WALL

money in the hand of businessman6 Really Bad Charismatic Doctrines We Should Retire

10:00AM EDT 5/7/2014    J. Lee Grady

I will never apologize for being a charismatic Christian. I had a dramatic experience with the Holy Spirit many years ago, and nobody can talk me out of it. I love the Holy Spirit’s abiding presence in my life and His supernatural gifts. I love to prophesy, speak in tongues, pray for the sick and see people changed by the Spirit’s power.

At the same time, I’m aware that since the charismatic movement began in the 1960s, people have misused the gifts of the Spirit and twisted God’s Word to promote strange doctrines or practices. Seeing these errors never caused me to question the authenticity of what the Holy Spirit had done in my life. But I knew I had to stay true to God’s Word and reject any false teachings I encountered.

My simple rule is based on 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22: “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil” (NASB). In other words: Eat the meat and spit out the bones.

As I have traveled throughout the body of Christ in recent years, I’ve experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. I love God’s people, and I know there is a healthy remnant of Spirit-filled churches that are striving to stay grounded in biblical truth. But I also know we have reached a crossroads. We must clean up our act. We must jettison any weird doctrines we might have believed or practiced that are hindering our growth today.

Here are a few of the worst errors that have circulated in our movement in the past season. You may have others that need to be added to this list. I believe we are grieving the Holy Spirit if we continue to practice these things:

1. “Touch not My anointed.” Chances are you’ve heard this weird doctrine based on 1 Chronicles 16:22. In an attempt to discourage any form of disagreement in the church, insecure leaders tell their members that if they ever question church authority, they are “touching the Lord’s anointed” and in danger of God’s judgment. Let’s call this what it is: spiritual manipulation. It creates worse problems by ruling out healthy discussion and mutual respect. Church members end up being abused or controlled—or even blacklisted because they dare to ask a question.

2. Dual covenant. We charismatics love and respect Israel. Some of us even incorporate Jewish practices in our worship—such as wearing prayer shawls, blowing shofars or celebrating Hebraic feasts. These things can enrich our Christian experience—but some leaders go too far when they begin to teach that Jews don’t need to believe in Jesus Christ to experience salvation. They imply that Jews have special access into heaven simply because of their ethnic heritage. This is a flagrant contradiction of everything the New Testament teaches.

3. Inaccessible leadership. In the 1980s, some charismatic ministries began to teach pastors and traveling ministers that in order to “protect the anointing,” they must stay aloof from people. Ministers were warned to never make friends in their congregations. Preachers began the strange practice of skipping worship on Sunday mornings—and then appearing on the stage only when it was time for the sermon in order to make a dramatic entrance. Shame on these people for attempting to justify arrogance. Jesus loved people, and He made Himself available to them. So should we.

4. Armor-bearers. The same guys who developed item No. 3 started this strange fad. Preachers began the practice of surrounding themselves with an entourage: one person to carry the briefcase, another person to carry the Bible, another to carry the handkerchief. Some preachers hired bodyguards … and even food-tasters! The armor-bearers were promised special blessings if they served preachers who acted like slave-owners. Reminder: True leaders are servants, not egomaniacs.

5. The hundredfold return. Before his death in 2003, Kenneth Hagin Sr., the father of the faith movement, rebuked his own followers for taking prosperity teaching to a silly extreme. In his book The Midas Touch, he begged preachers to stop misusing Mark 10:28-30 to suggest that God promises a hundredfold return on every offering we give. Hagin wrote, “If the hundredfold return worked literally and mathematically for everyone who gave in an offering, we would have Christians walking around with not billions or trillions of dollars, but quadrillions of dollars!” Hagin taught that the hundredfold blessing refers to the rewards that come to those who leave all they have to serve God in ministry.

6. Money cometh. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for giving money publicly to be seen by others. Yet in the 1990s, some charismatics got the wild idea that God would release a magical blessing if we would drop wads of dollar bills at the preacher’s feet while he was in the middle of his sermon. Leroy Thompson of Louisiana popularized this flamboyant practice with his infamous 1996 sermon, in which he encouraged people to shout in King James English, “Money! Cometh to me now!” Then the people would run to the front of the auditorium to pour cash into his coffers. The money came, for sure, and more cash-hungry preachers jumped on the bandwagon. Taking an offering became a form of exhibitionism, and Christians began viewing their offerings like lottery scratch-offs.

God requires holiness not just in our behavior but also in our doctrine. Let’s discard these and any other foolish teachings that have brought confusion and dishonor to the body of Christ.

ARE YOU EXPOSING THINGS?

ARE YOU EXPOSING THINGS?

Ephesians 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” “Have no fellowship … darkness”: Paul’s instruction is plain and direct: Christians are to faithfully live in righteousness and purity and have nothing at all to do with the evil ways and works of Satan and the world. The two ways of living are unalterably opposed to each other and mutually exclusive (1 Cor. 5:9-11; 2 Cor. 6:14-18; 2 Thess. 3:6, 14). “Rather reprove them”: The Christians responsibility does not stop with his own rejection of evil.HE IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR EXPOSING AND OPPOSING DARKNESS WHEREVER IT IS FOUND, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS FOUND IN THE CHURCH/GROUP. The child of light should not become involved in evil even by association. To compromise God’s standards is to weaken our witness as well as our character. No act of unrighteousness is permissible. WE ARE NOT EVEN TO HAVE CONTACT AT ALL WITH A FELLOW BELIEVER WHO IS OPENLY SINNING. “I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people,” Paul said to the Corinthians. I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters; for then you would have to go out of the world. But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so called brother if he should be an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler, not even to eat with such a one” (1 Cor. 5:9-11; 2 Thess. 3:6, 14).

“Reprove” is better translated “expose.” The believer’s duty is expressed here in two ways. Negatively, he is not to “have” and “fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness,” that is, not to indulge in the sins of the unsaved. Positively, he is to “expose” (reprove) those sins, that is, bring them to light and show them for what they really are, so that the unbeliever may see their hideous nature and their terrible consequences. To ignore evil is to encourage it; to keep quiet about it is to help promote it. We are to confront sin with intolerance. When those around us see us helping rather than exploiting, hears us talking with purity instead of profanity and observe us speaking truthfully rather that deceitfully, our example will itself be a rebuke of selfishness, unwholesome talk and falsehood. Simply refusing to participate in a dishonest business or social practice will sometimes be such a strong rebuke that it costs us our job or a friendship. The works of those dwelling in darkness produce no profitable fruit. To fellowship with someone means that you are partakers with them. We should not only not join in with them in their evil deeds, but we should tell them of their evil deeds, so that they might be encouraged to change.

BE HOLY

DGBE HOLY

1 Peter 1:15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Revelation 22:11 He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

TO BE HOLY IS MORE THAN A STATE OF MIND OR AN ATTITUDE OF FAITH. TO BE HOLY IS TO NOT PRACTICE OR DEMONSTRATE THE WORKS OF THE FLESH

GALATIANS 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

HOLINESS DOESN’T COME JUST BY WISHFUL THINKING OR A MAGICAL PRAYER. YOU BY YOUR CHOICES AND ACTIONS PLAY AN INTEGRAL PART IN IT

2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Ephesians 4:24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

HOLINESS DOESN’T COME FROM JOSEPH PRINCE TEACHINGS OF GRACE

Prince teaches a so-called gospel devoid of Biblical repentance and based on mental assent, as he implies his heretical once saved always saved belief. Just pray a little prayer and you’re forever saved while in your sins. He brushes off the vital necessity of turning away from wickedness by misapplying the meaning of repentance and therefore doesn’t teach saving faith and its accompanying crucifying the flesh (Gal. 5:24). Joseph Prince stated:
Repentance just means changing your mind. When John the Baptist said, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” he was essentially saying, “Change your mind, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” (p. 233)

Permanent Righteousness Without Doing What Is Right
Joseph Prince teaches the typical eternal security imputed righteous message as his secret, which is glaringly lethal:
My friend, righteousness is a gift because of what Jesus has accomplished on the cross for you. All your sins – past, present and future – have been washed clean by His precious blood. You are completely forgiven and from the moment you received Jesus into your life, you will never be held liable for your sins ever again. You have been made as righteous as Jesus…. (pp. 28, 29)
He sees you clothed with Jesus’ righteousness. So begin to see yourself clothed in Jesus’ righteousness. (p. 29)
The more you realize that you are righteous, the more victory you will experience over sin! Wake up every morning and give thanks that you are the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ. (p. 31)
Is Jesus righteous before God? Yes! Then so are you. Is He accepted before God? Yes! Then so are you. Is He well-pleasing before God? Yes! Then so are you. (p. 58)
God cannot see your sins when they are covered by the blood. (p. 209)

Don’t uncover your sins or the sins of others. They have been completely forgiven by the blood of Jesus (p. 211).
When God looks at you, all He sees is the blood of Jesus that makes you completely righteous. (p. 251)

There is no argument that Jesus is our righteousness (Rom. 1:17; 1 Cor. 1:30; Phil. 3:9; etc.), but that righteous standing before God can change and has for some:
If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.” (2 Pet 2:20-22)

SEED FAITH IS BOGUS

ABBEING IGNORANT IS TO BE STUPID!

1 Corinthians 2:15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.

Titus 2:6-10 Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,     sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

WHILE FALSE DEMONIC PREACHERS PREACH ON HOW TO GET GREAT MATERIAL WEALTH BY GIVING MONEY TO THEM THROUGH THE CONCEPT OF SEED FAITH, DO YOU APPRECIATE THAT SOLOMON GOT SUPER SUPER RICH BY AN ACCIDENT?

YES HE ASKED FOR WISDOM TO RULE OVER GOD’S PEOPLE AND DISCERN AND GIVE OUT JUSTICE, NOT WEALTH  AND GOD GAVE HIM MUCH MUCH MORE INCLUDING A SUPER ABUNDANCE OF WEALTH

SOLOMON DIDN’T TITHE TO GET RICH AND PROBABLY DIDN’T TITHE TO STAY RICH. AND HE WAS ALSO A GREAT ADULTERER AND WHORE MONGER AND DIDN’T REPENT OF THESE SINS. HE IS PROBABLY IN HELL NOT HEAVEN BECAUSE HE MADE GOD MAD AT HIM MANY TIMES!

NOW WHAT HAS ALL THIS TO DO WITH TITHING AND THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION?

WELL The Baptist Foundation of Arizona (BFA) was a Southern Baptist charity whose fraudulent behavior led to the largest collapse of a religious financial institution in U.S. history.  The BFA was associated with the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention, which was affiliated with the national organization. When the BFA filed for bankruptcy in 1999, it had $530 million in liabilities as compared to a reported $70 million in assets.

The collapse of the BFA did not occur in a vacuum. In 1992, records indicated that the company had lost $3.2 million due to questionable transactions. The Reverend Ed Shaw suggested that the BFA “Explain the situation completely to investors; ask their forgiveness; let them know their gift of principal would help if they choose to give some or all of it.” Instead the BFA decided to hide its debt and began a series of dubious activities. Under Bill Crotts, the organization diverted over $140 million dollars to two former and one active (as of 1998) director. The organization did this through the use of over 63 different public and private organizations all directly affiliated with the BFA

AND WHO WERE HURT IN THE COLLAPSE OF THE FBA THE MOST AND DIDN’T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY SHOULD BE HURT?

THE FAITHFUL TITHING MEMBERS OF THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION OF ARIZONA WHO WERE MOSTLY TITHERS AND WERE TAUGHT IF YOU TITHED FAITHFUL YOU WOULD NEVER BECOME DESTITUTE WHICH BECAME A REALITY FOR  MANY OF THEM ,

HOW IRONIC AND SAD THE SAME BIBLE PREACHERS  WHO TOLD THEM TO TITHE BECAME THE CAUSE OF THEIR DESTITUTION

SEED FAITH TEACHING IS BOGUS AND DOESN’T WORK EVEN FOR PREACHERS

SHEEP ARE SO DUMB AND HAVE NO DISCERNMENT BECAUSE ANYBODY WITH BRAINS WOULD KNOW THAT ORAL ROBERTS WAS A VERY GOOD FRIEND OF BENNY HINN. AND ORAL ROBERTS WAS A DECEIVER AND THIEF WHO DECEIVED AND STOLE MONEY THROUGH THE CONCEPT OF SEED FAITH WHICH WAS PROPOUNDED BY Eugene Ewing,  often known for making his mark by setting up “scam” mailing campaigns.

Most of Oral Roberts most successful campaigns (including telling audiences “God will kill me if I don’t get 6 millions dollars”) are credited to Eugene Ewing. These mailers — similar to scam Nigerian emails you may receive today — made false claims and sly promises that (according to Trinity Foundation Investigators) were the, “cleverest financial deception of the time.” Ewing had apparently gotten his mailing lists from US census records. He is said to have specifically targeted those who marked themselves as Christian, low-education, but also had medium income.
The Ghostwriter of the Prosperity Gospel? http://iamthetruthcenter.blogspot.ca/2012/03/ghostwriter-of-prosperity-gospel.html

Patty Roberts says that Oral advised Richard to divorce her when she became concerned about fund raising among people living in poverty in the name of helping poor students attend the school.  Meanwhile the Roberts enjoyed the luxury that few Tulsans knew about.  Some suggest that allowing trustee John Hagee, the San Antonio minister to investigate this saga is like asking the fox to guard the hen house.  Hagee, like Richard, is on his second wife abandoning the first for a much younger model.

Once a traveling tent-revival preacher, the Rev. James Eugene Ewing built a direct-mail empire from his mansion in Los Angeles that brings millions of dollars flowing into a Tulsa post office box.

Ewing’s computerized mailing operation, Saint Matthew’s Churches, mails more than 1 million letters per month, many to poor, uneducated people, while Ewing lives in a mansion and drives luxury cars.

The letters contain an alluring promise of “seed faith”: send Saint Matthew’s your money and God will reward you with cash, a cure to your illness, a new home and other blessings. They often contain items such as prayer cloths, a “Jesus eyes handkerchief,” golden coins, communion wafers and “sackcloth billfolds.” Recipients are often warned to open the letters in private and not discuss them with others.

The approach reaped Ewing and his organization a gross income of more than $100 million since 1993, including $26 million in 1999, the last year Saint Matthew’s made its tax records public. And while much of the money is spent on postage and salaries, Ewing’s company receives nonprofit status and pays no federal taxes.

Though Ewing claims it is a church, Saint Matthew’s Churches, once called St. Matthew Publishing Inc., has no address other than a Tulsa post office box. It has two listed phone numbers in Tulsa and both are answered by a recorded religious message.

Donations to Roberts’ ministry had plummeted after Roberts built Oral Roberts University and joined the United Methodist Church. His top advisers were seeking a buyer for the ministry’s corporate airplane.

The Rev. Wayne A. Robinson, then the vice president of public affairs for the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association, called Ewing about the plane. Robinson was the executive producer of Roberts’ television shows and editor-in-chief of his publications. He also was the ghostwriter for Roberts’ autobiography.

Ewing expressed interest in the plane, which was dispatched to California to pick up Ewing and several other associates.

“I brought them in to see Oral,” Robinson recalled. “I was expecting the appropriate deference of these guys to Oral, the big man. About the first thing Gene said was, ‘Oral, you are in trouble, and I can help you.’ “

During a second meeting with Roberts, Ewing laid out his seed-faith philosophy.

“Gene laid out one of the most sophisticated fund-raising campaigns I had ever seen. He said, ‘Oral, I want you to write your supporters and tell them you are going in the prayer tower, and you are going to read their prayer requests and pray over them.’ He stayed there three days. I forget how many hundred thousands of letters we had, but it was huge.”

Robinson said that on Ewing’s advice, Roberts responded to the letters with a letter outlining seed faith.
“You give and you get from God. It was a kind of prosperity gospel,” Robinson said.
Roberts was so happy with Ewing’s advice that he gave Ewing the plane, Robinson said.
The next year, income to Roberts’ ministry doubled, to $12 million from about $6 million, Robinson said.
Richard Roberts A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing http://www.scribd.com/doc/17098294
Oral Roberts Tragedy http://www.moriel.org/articles/discernment/church_issues/oral_roberts_tragedy.htm

More than a couple of decades ago I read the intriguing book written by Patty Roberts, who was the famous singer associated with Oral Roberts.  Married to Oral’s son Richard, Patty traveled around the nation helping raise money for the organization.  She grew disgusted that poor followers sent millions with much of it going to the disgusting lavish life style of the family she married into. Growing up around 50 miles from their school, I noted few took the family seriously in my region. One example was practices like faith healing services in which Oral would put up cables with clothes pins claiming that when a $5 bill was under each pin God would begin healing. That movement has now grown to raising up to $75 million a year and seeking to extend its clutches into government influence.

Recent charges against Oral Roberts University in the press have raised a larger issue concerning the influence the university has around the nation. Fired alleged whistle blowers from the faculty of the school claim they were let go because they exposed dirty laundry.  The claims that Richard and his second wife lived a life of excess at the expense of donor money to the school are nothing new.  Patty, Richard’s first wife claimed the same almost three decades ago in her book about the Tulsa school.  She wrote of golf trips her husband took and her mother in law’s elaborate shopping sprees using jets to fly them around the nation for such.

Don’t look for any decrease in giving from the faithful since Patty’s claims caused little impact on the huge amount of money flowing into the programs.  Around $75 million according to some accounts.  The fact that the Roberts used this to qualify for lifestyles of the rich and famous brought little concern from seed faith followers.  These congregants adhere to Oral’s view of the Bible that God wants His followers to be wealthy.  Oral has written that Jesus was rich in His day and this justifies the opulence.  Joel Olsteen, pastor of the huge Houston church, was a student at ORU.  Olsteen’s wife has gotten the message.  She is now famous for slapping an airline stewardess who didn’t clean her first class seat properly.

Patty says that Oral advised Richard to divorce her when she became concerned about fund raising among people living in poverty in the name of helping poor students attend the school.

Basically Patti saw that the ministry was consuming Richard and he was being a clone of Oral. She say the error of seed faith and questioned many of their fund raising practices. while Richard wanted the divorce as much as Patti, the ministry forced her into the position of filing. Just a sad end to a marriage

Patti Roberts, Richard’s First Wife Exposes Heresy of Richard and Oral.

Before Richard married Lindsey,he was married to Patti. He and Patti had two daughters. After Richard divorced Patti, with Oral’s approval,Patti wrote a book,”Ashes to Gold.”In this book,Patti Roberts compares the “seed faith”tactic of former father-in-law Oral Roberts to Johann Tetzel’s practice of selling indulgences. She points out that she had a “very difficult time distinguishing between the selling of indulgences and the concept of seed-faith inflated to the degree to which we had inflated it.

One distinction Patti did observe was that Oral was more subtle than Tetzel.Rather than offering salvation in exchange for money,Oral appealed to such basic instincts as fear and greed.

Hank Hanegraaff in his book,”Christianity in Crisis”exposes the manipulative techniques of Richard Roberts. When Oral told the world that unless he raised millions of dollars God was going to call him home,Richard took pen in hand to warn of his father’s impending doom.Without “the additional $4,500,000,”explains Richard,”God will not extend Dad’s life.”He then pleads,”Partner,we cannot let this man of God die. There is no reason for him to die.”And this is no idle threat,Richard claims. As he puts it,”When he (Oral) says God speaks to him,he’s not bluffing.”And just in case someone should doubt or suspect his motives,Richard offers this stirring assurance:”I feel totally called by God to do this….I’m writing to you as an anointed servant of God-doing what God has called me to do.”

After several pages Richard finally gets to the seed-faith solution.Take the enclosed birthday card, slip in a seed-faith gift “check,”and then RUSH IT TO ME TODAY.”

By the end of the letter,Richard Roberts had done virtually everything to assure his partners that this was a deal they couldn’t afford to pass up.Send your seed-faith gift  and Richard will be proud of you.Oral will pray for you,and God will prosper you.
“Without the additional four and one half million dollars, explains Richard,God will not extend Dad’s life.”He then pleads,”Partner,we cannot let this man of God die. There is no reason for him to die.”

ROBERTS’ PERSONAL FINANCES
Harrell writes:
“Roberts’ two California homes, partly for security reasons, were not much discussed by the ministry. Oral also remained sensitive about press criticism of his lifestyle. His house in Palm Springs, purchased for $285,000 and financed by a Tulsa bank, was his only privately owned home. In 1982 ORU endowment funds were used to purchase a $2,400,000 house in a high-security development in Beverly Hills. Considered a potentially profitable investment, the house served as Oral’s West Coast office and residence.” (p. 355)
“Oral’s homes in California inevitably kept alive the old questions about his personal wealth and lifestyle. While probably not as probing as the press had been fifteen years earlier, reporters still took a keen interest in Oral’s financial affairs. In 1981, the Associated Press published Roberts’ personal income figures for the preceding five years–ranging from $70,000 in 1976 to $178,000 in 1978.
“In addition to his healthy income, derived mostly from book royalties, Oral continued to enjoy generous expense accounts: `The Robertses wear expensive clothes and jewelry and travel in a company-owned eight-passenger fanjet.’

Patti Roberts’ book [following her divorce from Oral’s son, Robert] and an earlier expose written by Jerry Sholes, renewed curiosity about the family’s financial affairs, although Patti confessed that her own `extravagance’ while she was Richard’s wife had `blunted’ her protest.

Tax records indicate that Oral’s partners donated in excess of $38,000,000 in the fiscal year 1977-78, “surpassing every other religious association in the nation.” (p. 389)
In 1979 a book was published by Jerry Sholes, a former employee of Oral Robert ministries, which detailed deep deception and hypocrisy:

“Here is a portrait of the real Oral Roberts, the man not too many of his admirers know. He dresses in Brioni suits that cost $500 to $1000; walks in $100 shoes; lives in a $250,000 house in Tulsa and has a million dollar home in Palm Springs; wears diamond rings and solid gold bracelets employees `airbrush’ out of his publicity photos; drives $25,000 automobiles which are replaced every 6 months; flies around the country in a $2 million fanjet falcon; has membership, as does his son Richard, in `the most prestigious and elite country club in Tulsa,’ the Southern Hills (the membership fee alone was $18,000 for each, with $130 monthly dues) and in `the ultra-posh Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California’ (both father and son joined when memberships were $20,000 each–they are now $25,000); and plays games of financial hanky-panky that have made him and his family members independently wealthy (millionaires) for life. (When his daughter and son-in-law were killed, they left a $10 million estate!)” (Evangelist R.L. Sumner’s review of Give Me that Prime- time Religion by Jerry Sholes)
“By the mid-1980s, Oral Roberts had come to be the chief executive officer of an organization that employed about 2,300 people and did an annual business of about 110 million dollars, about 60 percent of which was raised through contributions.” (p. 485)

Bishop Carlton Pearson, a Charismatic minister, is the founder of the Azusa Interdenominational Fellowship of Christian Churches and the pastor of Higher Dimensions Family Church in Oklahoma. Pearson preaches the “gospel of inclusion,” a controversial doctrine claiming that Jesus Christ saves all people no matter what their beliefs or actions. He spoke with Beliefnet recently about what his theology means for non-Christians.

Could you describe your message–the “gospel of inclusion”–in a nutshell?

The Gospel of Inclusion is the exciting and liberating news that in the finished work of the cross, Jesus redeemed the entire world to God from the cosmic and organic sin imposed upon it by Adam, the original man. In effect, the world is already saved, they just don’t know it; and, unfortunately, most Christians don’t believe it. First Timothy 4:9-10 says, “…we have put our trust in the living God who is the Savior of all men, and especially those who believe.” Jesus did not just die for Christians, He died to redeem, reconcile, and ultimately save the Cosmos.

Well Bishop Carlton Pearson is a heretic!

Bishop Carlton Pearson used to be the glory boy of Oral Roberts and his best pupil and was often seen on ORU Television. And he went nuts because like most people at ORU as they were not Christians since they were taught by men not God. Hence when Dan Strader graduated from ORU he immediately started stealing money through any way he could!

I had visited ORU before I got married and met Oral, Evelyn and Richard, ORU though there two dimensions of Christians the ordinary kind and the higher dimension kind which very demonic. God who is no respect of persons and wants the best for every one has only one kind of Christian – The true authentic one Baptized with the spirit, speaking in tongues and operating in the gifts of the Spirit.

As I said look back now I can say they were and all idiots! Just fleshly ones devoid of hearing God’s voice and loving truth and His word!

So it’s no surprise that Oral Roberts loved Benny Hinn and other nuts like  Rodney Howard Browne and Marilyn Hickey: Fairy Godmother of the Word-faith Movement and former  chairman of the Board of Regents of Oral Roberts University.
Healing for Dollars

hickeyMarilyn Hickey, wow, has she gotten off the path to righteousness. I am continually amazed at her tactics to raise money. She has now incorporated her daughter into the ministry and has her performing the same deceptive practices against the followers as her mother has done for years.  I decided to send a prayer request to her ministry to see how they would respond and I have been inundated with one letter after the other asking for money. Many of the letters come with some item or another like a piece of prayer cloth or a package of water or oil or something of that sort. Amazingly enough, the last item I received from her ministry had a letter telling me that she had set aside 3 days this summer for my personal “Supernatural Intervention”. She claims God told her to do this and she set aside a set of days for this miracle. It amazes me that people continue to believe that these people can decide for God when He is going to perform His miracles. They treat God like He is some kind of monkey on a organ, telling Him when to grind and when not to. It sickens me to death to see this kind of treatment towards our God. My reconciliation for the whole mess is I remind myself that “Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord”. I can rest assured that God will deal with these types of people when their time comes to meet their Maker! In the meantime though, we are faced with a horrible situation. Millions of people around the world are following these people like they were God themselves. They are being deceived and are in jeopardy of being led down the wide path which leads to destruction. We need to pray for these followers and for this Ministry itself that they would see the light and turn from their wickedness and follow the true God of the Bible and Jesus Christ and Him risen. Below is an article from Bill & Jackie Alnor which covers this ministry very well. Please read this with an open mind and let the Holy Spirit direct you in your decisions about this ministry.

UPDATE
: The last letter I received from Marilyn Hickey Ministries included a pair of “Chopsticks”!  Can you believe it! A pair of chopsticks that were supposed to bring me a blessing from God Himself.  I never did send any money back to the Marilyn Hickey Ministry but did send back some of the forms they requested which were supposed to be part of the miracle process.  I have not heard back from their ministry in a while now so I have to assume that my special days of miracles and my healings from the chopsticks and the packet of oil are not going to work as there was no financial attachment involved.  Sad isn’t it?

The Christian Sentinel                         Marilyn Hickey: Fairy Godmother of the Word-faith Movement?
February 1999 issue
Feature Article

Why have some questioned the teachings of one of the most popular charismatic Bible teachers in the world? Why is she controversial? In this special report the Christian Sentinel focuses on her Word-faith teachings and her fundraising techniques.

If anyone personifies the fairy godmother of the word-faith movement it is Marilyn Hickey. Although she claims to have a long track record of “decreeing things” into existence, and as she puts it, “calling those things that are not as though they are,” her biblical exegesis is often faulty, and her fundraising techniques are reprehensible. The result is that she is misleading thousands of Christians worldwide to follow a distorted message that adds greed to the Gospel.
These are facts that are easily supported. Yet nevertheless she has successfully marketed her formulas for success to an array of unsuspecting Christians around the world, as many see her as a wonderful role model for modern charismatic thinking women to follow.
Hickey’s television program, “Today With Marilyn” is seen regularly on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN)1, on the Black Entertainment Television network, and on various local channels around the world. She also has a worldwide radio broadcast. Besides her international ministry based near Denver, Marilyn Hickey Ministries has offices in England, South Africa and Australia. She is also the founder of the Word to the World College, (founded in 1981, it was formerly known as the “Marilyn Hickey Bible College”), she is also the only woman on Korean mega church David (Paul) Yonggi Cho’s board of directors. She is also the chairman of the Board of Regents of Oral Roberts University.

One of the keys to Hickey’s success is that she has frequently convinced her followers that she can hear from God better than they can. Throughout her writings over the years in her magazine she quotes “the voice of God” as if it speaks directly to her. Though this is not unusual within many quarters of Christianity, it is typical of many of modern day false teachers and those she has identified as her heroes, such as John G. Lake, Oral Roberts, David (Paul) Yonggi Cho, and a host of others in the Word-faith camp.
As documented in the Christian Sentinel and in other publications, the Word-faith movement is an aberrant man-centered substitute for biblical Christianity that focuses prayer on the power of the tongue instead of on God. Thus word-faith followers “positively confess” material goods and even divine health as their rights as children of God. Being that it is usually associated with Pentecostals and charismatics, it is not a careful movement that uses the Bible as its final authority. Often subjective experience is placed on par with Scripture, which has led false teachers – even those denying some essentials of the Christian faith – into taking some of the reigns of leadership within the word-faith movement.
Perhaps then it is no surprise that, according to an article in Outpouring magazine, the publication of her ministry, Hickey credits William Branham as the inspiration for receiving her call to ministry (see God’s Generals review on page 13). Branham, who denied the historic doctrine of the Trinity, also laid hands on her in one of his tent meetings in 1958, Hickey’s magazine recounts. “Doctors had told Marilyn she would never have a child,” according to the 1998 “special edition” issue, “but Evangelist William Branham told her that she was to go home, receive her healing, and have her baby.” This “miracle,” however, was a long time in coming. Ten years later her daughter, Sarah, was born.
That same article describes how Hickey made a commitment to Christ as a teenager, but during her college years she nearly turned her back on Christianity due to dissatisfaction with Pentecostals – particularly with her mother’s brand of it. She “found it almost impossible to carry on a conversation with her mother because everything became an excuse for talking about the Holy Spirit,” the article noted. It wasn’t long, however, before her mother got some unexpected help in guiding her daughter back to Pentecostalism when she met Wallace Hickey. So upon their pressure Marilyn responded to “an altar call to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” The two were married shortly thereafter. (Wallace Hickey eventually became the founding pastor of their church, the Orchard Road Christian Center, also known as the “happy church,” in the Denver area.)
Today, however, although her home church is Orchard Road, her itinerary reveals that her pressing schedule keeps her away a lot. Today she has her daughter, Sarah Bowling, in partnership with her and they often leave their husbands behind to travel about the globe. Not counting the various churches around America where they will be speaking over the next four months, they will visit foreign countries such as Pakistan, Australia, Peru and Chile. In addition, these women host various ocean cruises and foreign tours.
It is apparent that the Marilyn Hickey empire is very well-funded by scores of followers. Her monthly mailings utilize many of the gimmicks and chicanery of well-known deceivers like Peter Popoff or Robert Tilton who have been repeatedly exposed by secular news broadcasts. Many of the Hickey mailings the Christian Sentinel has received over the years are so deceptive that we are amazed that she can sleep at night. For instance, in one mailing of the early 1990s, Hickey donned an Old Testament priestly robe with special stones representing the 12 tribes of Israel. The idea was that Hickey, as a high priest, would make special intercession for her readers – if they would write back in a specially provided envelope (and presumably financially contribute to her).
Hickey’s Fundraising Methodology
In analyzing these mailings there are two tricks of the trade that she puts into practice consistently: 1) send the people something that has to be returned in order to be affective; and 2) give a strict deadline for the readers to comply with. And of course, all of the gimmickry stands on the theory that Hickey’s faith is more anointed and powerful than the readers’ so they have the illusion they’re tapping into a direct pipeline from Hickey to God. Almost every mailing promotes the false teaching called “seed faith” that has been popularized for years by the false teacher, Oral Roberts. Basically, the seed faith concept fits neatly within the Word-faith camp. It states that if you want more riches, simply give to God’s ministries financially, and these gifts become “seeds” that can grow into more wealth later for those who contribute. Thus the motive behind giving to God, in direct contradiction to Scripture, becomes giving to God’s ministries in order to get from God. Hickey’s fundraising letters have this idea reduced to a science. They repeatedly say that none of her formulas for miracles can work unless money is sent in to seal the deal with God. After all, you can’t reap unless you sow something first, they’ll say.

The Little Widow Woman
Her latest mailing received by the Christian Sentinel in January 1999 focused directly on poor widows and women struggling with financial troubles. She mailed us two pennies stuck to the return card with an invitation to join in on her “prayer tunnel.” The two pennies represented the two coins the poor widow woman put in the temple offering in the 21st chapter of Luke.2
The appeal reads in part: “THIS IS WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO: #1) TAKE your Personal Prayer Sheet, place the palm of your right hand over the two copper pennies. We are going to use them as our miracle point-of-contact together… #2) NOW, write down today’s date in the box marked TODAY. #3) BE SPECIFIC and write in the miracle amount of money that you need… #4) WRITE DOWN any other personal areas of lack and need for which you are desperately desiring a miracle—and want me to release my faith for… #5) FINALLY. . . Search your heart, and write a check. Whatever you give, make it the BEST gift to Him that you possibly can!”
Then the appeal concludes with: “HERE’S WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO: FIRST: . . .I’m instructing every one of my prayer warriors who come in contact with your prayer request sheet to make sure that they touch it, lay their hands on it, touch the same 2 coins you’ve touched… NEXT: we’re going to form a ‘Prayer Tunnel’ of financial faith for you… it’s a powerful thing! . . . I’m believing as your request sheet passes through my ‘Prayer Tunnel’ of faith—you’ll pass through your dark tunnel of financial pressure… I really want you to hear my heart: THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER and we are not playing games with the devil…this is WAR!… Like the little widow, sow a seed out of your need!”

`Stop the Devil’ Shoe Seals
Other recent mailings include: Making a proxy seed faith gift to get an unbelieving loved one saved; acquiring a special anointed prayer supposedly written by St. Patrick that will bring “supernatural protection, provision and power”; sending back one of the mustard seeds from the packet mailed out for Hickey to join in a bottle with others’ mustard seeds to enhance her anointing when she lays hands on them; “Stop the Devil” seals that are to be placed on the bottom of one’s right shoe, along with a coupon for four additional seals to give to a friend – real power against the devil; two red pieces of string, send one back with seed money for “specific rescue miracles of deliverance; Anointing oil to dab on one’s checkbook, pillow, car, door posts and people; A paper drinking cup to insert a check into, speaking the name of Jesus as you do, and send back quickly.
Another Widow Woman
On just about every one of her ridiculous mailings she makes a disclaimer such as: “This is not a gimmick! This letter is being sent in direct response to the leading of the Lord in my heart!” This particular mailing being quoted dealt with the Old Testament’s poor widow woman from 1 Kings 17. She’s the one who was down to the bottom of her food supplies, and had just enough to make a cake for her and her son, but the prophet Elijah came and instructed her to make him a cake first and then her supply of food would not run out. Sure enough, the Lord increased her supply of flour and oil and she and her son survived the famine.
So using that as her inspiration, Hickey mailed out a little packet of corn meal to her mailing list along with careful instructions to enable her readers to achieve the same results. She labeled the packet the “CORNMEAL MIRACLE.” Her supporters are to write down their “last minute cornmeal miracle need,” and pray over the cornmeal packet, wrap the packet up in the prayer sheet, and sow the seed to get the harvest. Of course, the implication is that Marilyn Hickey is equivalent to Elijah in that she must be fed before our needs can be met.
Notice how the two widow women in the Bible are consistently utilized by the flock fleecers in our midst to move cash from our wallets into their ministry’s coffers. It is a well-known fact that many that contribute to ministries of this sort are impoverished. One would wonder if those two biblical widow women will rise up against those falsely using their accounts of obedience to God and heart-felt giving to justify their greed. Jesus had strong words for such evil doers who misused God’s real purposes to subvert them to their own. He said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees; hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation” (Matt. 23:14).

A Leader in the Holy Laughter Movement

Marilyn Hickey has been near the forefront in today’s holy laughter movement, having participated in its bizarre manifestations that began in the early 1990s.3 Charismatic leaders Charles and Frances Hunter credit Hickey as being the one that convinced them that Rodney Howard-Browne, a pioneer in the so-called laughing revival, was to be believed in spite of their initial reservations about him. The Hunters were hesitant to attend the Rodney Howard-Browne meeting at Karl Strader’s Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland, Florida, after hearing reports of strange signs and wonders taking place there. But Hickey convinced them it was of God.
“We have known Marilyn for many, many years and have always known her to walk in some of the greatest integrity of anyone in the Christian world,” write the Hunters on page 36 in their book, Holy Laughter. “Because of her sincerity and integrity… we decided to venture down and take a look at what was really going on. We were skeptical, but if this was a new move of the Holy Spirit, we certainly didn’t want to miss it.”
Similarly Hickey continues to work up strange manifestations at her own crusades around the world. She is defensive about her belief in the strange fire. “I have watched the Holy Spirit minister joy from one side of the auditorium to the other,” she writes in her Outpouring magazine, “…very prim and proper Christians rolling on the floor, people glued to the floor until released by the Holy Spirit; people so drunk on the Holy Spirit that they staggered, unable to walk, and people frozen in trances for hours. It is way too late to convince me that this outpouring of the Holy Spirit is anything but God.”
Some of Hickey’s Fruit
Let’s look at some testimonies of people who have sought Marilyn Hickey’s anointing to see if this resembles New Testament Christianity. One woman used one of Hickey’s prayer cloths to heal her dog. “I thought, If a prayer cloth works for humans, why shouldn’t it work for my dog?” Wrote a supporter who then testified how the dog recovered the day after she put the cloth under her dog’s collar. Another woman wrote in with the same story saying that after she called into Hickey’s ministry a prayer warrior prayed for her dog and sent her a prayer cloth. “I placed the prayer cloth on my dog and two days later it was completely healed,” she wrote. And she got a bonus: “As a result of this miracle, my husband accepted Christ,”
Another supporter wrote in after attending one of Hickey’s “Encounters” to say that she was able to purchase a new car after being prayed for when Hickey asked those needing a new car to stand. “Before the month was over, I had credit approval and now have the car I wanted,” the writer wrote gleefully. (Hopefully, she will find her way out of debt at the next charismatic debt-burning ceremony.)
Winds and Waves
Hickey’s own words often condemn her. Over the years, Hickey has used the same rhetoric to fleece the flock as the other phony faith healers who preceded her. Either they pick up their tricks from each other or they all listen to the same lying spirit. The Bible warns about those who would creep in unnoticed and deceive many (Jude 3). Jude’s symbolism to describe such deceivers is very telling. “They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds… raging waves of the sea” (Jude 12-13)
Let us look at how Hickey uses these same symbols of “winds and waves” to describe her own anointing:
“We are seeing it in our own meetings. It’s an awesome thing. Like the waters of the ocean that roll majestically to the shore, wave after wave of God’s power, joy, blessing, and miracle manifestations are being released.” (Outpouring magazine, February, 1996)
“Like an ocean wave, it is building with a swelling, rolling, and boiling of water. We are witnessing… an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that will break forth like a mighty wave and sweep many in the kingdom of God.” (Outpouring magazine, September, 1995)
“The move of the Spirit is moving all over the nation. It is blowing over the whole Body.” (Outpouring magazine, 1998 Special Edition)
So Marilyn Hickey describes her own ministry as something that is carried about by spiritual wind and waves. The apostle Paul warned Christians not to be “tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine” (Eph. 4:14). Peter used the same typology when he warned about the false teachers that would be among us who are “wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest” (2 Pet. 2:17).

So upon close scrutiny the Marilyn Hickey Ministries is a monument to a woman who sees herself as a great prophetess of the latter days. Her roots run deep in the “Seed Faith”/Word-faith” and lying signs and wonders movement of today. On the surface her television and radio persona is that of a nice, sweet, Bible teacher who can quote scripture better than most of her male counterparts. But her Bible knowledge only condemns her more because she should know better. “To whom much is given, much is required,” Jesus said in Luke 12:48. She has now passed her “mantle” onto her daughter, Sarah Bowling, in the same way Hickey’s role-models (Oral & Richard Roberts, Paul & Matthew Crouch, Kenneth Hagin Sr. and Jr.) have done with their sons. The legacy continues. . .

Summary
In conclusion, don’t support Marilyn Hickey Ministries, and especially don’t be fooled by her and tricked into giving her money. Further, ask your cable operator and local radio station to remove her and her dangerous doctrines from their systems so that more people cannot be fooled. She is one of many false prophets in these last days. Of course, also write her a note of rebuke for her false teachings. Her address: Marilyn Hickey Ministries, P.O. Box 17340, Denver, CO 80217. Or maybe this isn’t a good idea. When we wrote her a letter years ago questioning some of her teachings we received no answers to our questions, but instead began receiving a flood of Hickey fundraising letters seeking our money.

2 Numerous Word-faith teachers also emphasize the poor widow woman.
3 See the Christian Sentinel’s previous works on the “holy laughter” movement available online at http://www.cultlink.com. During some meetings participants have been known to act as if they were drunken, while others have demonstrated bizarre behavior such as barking like dogs, roaring like lions, while others have allegedly been “frozen” on the floor, unable to move for hours. The Christian Sentinel staff is unanimous in considering this movement unscriptural and perhaps demonic.

For those who are not convinced as to the tactics of Marilyn Hickey Ministries, visit her web site and send in a prayer request and you will see that your mail box will become inundated with request for money and other things immediately. DO NOT send money, just watch and be amazed at the money her ministry will spend just trying to get you to support her while she will promise you one favor after another from God. ONLY do this if you are SECURE in your faith as it is so easy to get caught up in these types of ministries which promise so much while supposedly asking for so little.

SEED FAITH

DAD

BEING IGNORANT IS TO BE STUPID!

About the first thing Gene said was, ‘Oral, you are in trouble, and I can help you.’ ”

Rodney Howard Browne The Fleecer http://tinyurl.com/343w372

By Bill & Jackie Alnor
©1999 Christian Sentinel

Kathryn Kuhlman and her Spirit Guide

BB

PREFACE:

Lying Benny Hinn Never Met Kathryn Kuhlman At All

One person, however, was not content to be only one of many. Benedictus “Benny” Hinn has made a career out of claiming Kuhlman’s legacy as his own, despite his espousal of theology she would find heretical and practices she would judge abhorrent. Hinn attended a Kuhlman meeting in Pittsburgh in December of 1973 at the urging of a friend. During the meeting, Hinn experienced shaking sensations and felt that Kuhlman was speaking to him as she explained the role and person of the Holy Spirit. This was the beginning of his fixation on Kuhlman’s ministry. He attended many Kuhlman meetings over the next two years, and listened each night to Kuhlman on WWVA, a Wheeling, West Virginia radio station. Hinn claimed to be invited by a Kuhlman representative to attend a Pittsburgh service in November 1975 in order to meet Kuhlman afterward. The meeting was cancelled due to Kuhlman’s illness, and Hinn returned to Canada without meeting her. Kuhlman died in February. Hinn would later write and speak about Kuhlman in terms so easy and familiar that an uninformed observer would assume they had known each other for years. The truth was that Hinn never met Kathryn Kuhlman at all.

Benny Hinn is a parasitical prosperity pimping preacher! He is a liar and a false prophet who loves to say “The LORD told me…” And for all his lies about “Why would the Lord be telling me to write to you about an unprecedented release of the anointing for the next 12 months?” HOW COME THE LORD DIDN’T TELL BENNY HINN THAT SUZANNE HINN WAS GOING TO DIVORCE HIM? http://www.scribd.com/doc/17673980

THE STORY

Probably no one set the tone for the New Wave movement more clearly than Mrs. Kuhlman. She had a mystic about herself that could not be ignored. Those who knew her or visited her meetings became either supporters or critics. Let’s follow a different approach in reviewing her life and ministry. Is it possible for a person controlled by a spirit guide from Lucifer to actually believe that this controlling spirit is the Holy Spirit? I believe the answer is clearly, yes. Satan and his minions are master imitators. Hell will be inhabited with a multitude that truly believed that in life they were following God. In fact, Jesus told of the Day of Judgment when men would remind Him of prophesying in His name, but listen to His answer, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:22-23).
There will also be persons in the eternal presence of Christ whom Satan deceived, who made mistakes because of those deceptions, but who learned in time, repented and ended life in hope of eternal redemption. Thanks to God, Satan loses many of his captives because Jesus came to set the captives free. Whether Kathryn Kuhlman will be in the first category or the last is determined by the sovereign judgment of God and we must wait until eternity for the results. God is a just God and no one who turns wholly to His Son will be forgotten.

The Life Of Kathryn Kuhlman
The man who wrote the official biography of Miss Kuhlman declared that she wanted the whole story told, barring nothing. Jamie Buckingham may have believed some very contradictory doctrines and certainly believed strongly that Kathryn was a woman of God, but I do believe his biography of her was honest and factual. He did not tell a very pretty story. Her life was a mystery. Many events of her life were shadowed with half-truths, deception, confusion and misrepresentation. If the righteous or wicked die as they live, then her death was a proof of her disobedience and bondage by false spirits. In fact, of all the mysteries about her, her death was the most mysterious. Something was wrong or something went wrong.
Mr. Buckingham started her biography with these words,
“In death, as in life, she remained shrouded in mystery. She appeared on our TV screens and the faraway platforms as a fantasy figure — gutsy in her preaching yet tender to tears as she proclaimed healing to the sick multitudes. The world, from the Fifth Avenue fashion models to Hollywood’s stars to the hard-hat mill workers in Pittsburgh, flooded to her miracle services. On a planet ravaged by disease and spiritual darkness she represented that one ingredient without which mankind is doomed — hope. Many were healed. Others, seeing in her the glory of God, committed their lives to the Christ she proclaimed. In her speech and life style she seemed to epitomize the health, love and prosperity of the God she so reverently served. To many she seemed almost immortal. In fact, Maggie Hartner, Kathryn’s personal secretary and alter ego, once told me: ‘Miss Kuhlman will never die. She’ll be right here until Jesus comes again.’
“But she did die. On February 20, 1976, in a strange hospital, in a strange city, surrounded by people she hardly knew, with a man she once disdained standing in the wings ready to preach her funeral. The woman whom Time magazine called a ‘veritable one-woman Shrine of Lourdes’ was dead at the age of sixty-eight.” (Daughter Of Destiny, Jamie Buckingham, pp. 1-2.)
In the second paragraph above he mentioned a statement by Time magazine in which she was called a “veritable one-woman Shrine of Lourdes.” A second biography, written by Wayne E. Warner, entitled The Woman Behind The Miracles, stated that people often used monies saved to visit an apparition of Mary and instead visited a crusade being conducted by Kathryn Kuhlman. It was very apparent that her healing services were on the exact same level as a so-called mystical apparition of Mary.
The mysteries around her life even included the place of her birth. Her official biography writer, Buckingham, stated.
“Exactly why Kathryn always maintained she was born in the big, white, two-story house is another of the many mysteries surrounding her life. Yet she never backed down from the myth.” (Ibid, pp. 11-12.)
From her birthplace to her death place, she lived a mysterious life and left a mysterious legacy.
Her Marriage And Separation
While pastoring a very successful church in Denver (from a storefront building to a congregation of 2,000), she invited an evangelist, Burroughs A. Waltrip, to hold a revival. He came back for a second revival and later announced his wife had deserted him. It was learned that he had written his wife and two sons to say that he would not be coming home (Daughter Of Destiny, p. 78.). He and Kathryn had apparently become involved in an affair. She and Waltrip were married in 1938, but reports concluded that they were involved as early as 1935. The following report reflected an eyewitness account,
“Had it not been for a deep commitment which he had made only weeks earlier, recent convert Dennis Brown would have dropped out of church forever after he saw Kathryn Kuhlman compromising her convictions with Burroughs A. Waltrip, a married evangelist, that summer evening in 1935.
“‘I parked the car, and my wife and I were walking toward the auditorium, past the church office,’ Brown remembers. Since the door was ajar, the Browns got an eyeful, and it nearly floored the new believers: ‘[Miss Kuhlman] was in the evangelist’s arms.’
“The Browns turned around and walked away from the Tabernacle, got in their car and left. They found a new church home in Harvey Spangler’s Baptist Church across town and never returned to the Denver Revival Tabernacle.” (Telephone Interview with Dennis Brown, February 25, 1992 as reported in “The Woman Behind The Miracles.”)
Here is the official report of her announced commitment to Waltrip made in the Denver church in 1938.
“Standing before her congregation in Denver, Kathryn announced at the Sunday morning service on October 15 that God had revealed a new plan. She and Waltrip had decided to combine their ministries. Headquarters would be in Mason City, Iowa. She and Waltrip would take turns commuting back and forth to Denver for the services — 800 miles. ‘The two of us can accomplish far more than either of us separately,’ she proclaimed.
“Although she had not mentioned marriage, everyone seemed to know. A ghastly hush fell over the congregation. All the rumors they had been hearing about Waltrip divorcing his wife in order to marry Kathryn — it was all true. Women began to sob. Several got up from the choir and walked out. Men sat stony faced in their pews, looking at Kathryn in disbelief. How could she do it? This woman, who had preached such dynamic messages about purity and holiness. This woman who had been such a model of decency and divine compassion. Was everything she had said a myth? Was she unable to follow the Lord she had so diligently encouraged them to follow for the last five years? Where was the inner strength? The power? Others could sin and fall away from God, but not their leader. Because she had been given much, then much was required. It was a hard life she had chosen. No one doubted that. All knew what she had sacrificed. Marriage. Children. Just to build the work in Denver. But to give it all up? To throw it away for a divorced man who had left his wife and two children? It wasn’t worth that.”
“‘No, Kathryn, don’t say it. Don’t do it. Please!” It was Helen Gulliford, standing at the piano bench, her face ashen, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Earl Hewitt, Kathryn’s business manager and substitute preacher, dropped his head to his knees. Broken. Mr. Anderson sat. Silent. That which he feared had come to pass.
“Kathryn waved her hands dramatically and tried to make light of the entire situation. ‘Don’t you understand,’ she said almost gaily. ‘I’m not leaving you. I’ll be back.’” (Daughter Of Destiny, pp. 82-83.)
Very shortly after the wedding both Walter and Kathryn left the two different churches where they pastored. Buckingham says that she sold her share in the Denver Tabernacle to Earl Hewitt. His book stated,
“He offered to buy her share of the building. She accepted and handed him the keys to her kingdom. Like a person possessed, she could not stop what she had started, even though the weight of it was already more than she could bear.” (Ibid, p. 84.)
Waltrip and Kuhlman continued to evangelize either together or in separate meetings for eight years. They reportedly separated in 1946 and never saw each other again. Mr. Waltrip died in prison reportedly for bilking a woman out of money. According to Kathryn Kuhlman official biographers, she often refused to admit she had ever been married. Writer Jamie Buckingham reported one occasion when she actually lied to reporters who questioned her,
“Then, just as the contest was about to hit its crest, a front page story appeared in the Akron paper revealing that a team of reporters had dug into Kathryn’s past and discovered she had married a divorced evangelist a number of years before.
“Kathryn exploded. That just wasn’t fair play. For almost seven years she had been free from that old scandal, now here it was, raising its ugly head again just when she felt she had won a victory.
“When Robert Hoyt of the Akron Beacon Journal interviewed her, she denied having ever been married.
“‘We were never married. I never took my marriage vows,’ she said, her eyes flashing. ‘Do you know what happened? I’ll tell you what happened. I fainted — passed out completely, I tell you — right before I was to take my vows.’
“Shaking her finger in the face of the young reporter, she shouted, ‘That’s the truth, so help me God.’
“Hoyt was insistent. ‘We have a photostatic copy of your marriage application.’
‘If I signed an application for a marriage license, it was brought to me for my signature. I do not remember signing any such thing. Besides, I don’t believe it should make any difference whether I was married or not. And that’s all I am going to say.’” (Ibid, pp. 129-130.)
She Lived Expensively As A Pattern For Today’s New Wave Leaders
Her clothing was far more than “costly array” that Apostle Paul warned believers to reject (I Timothy 2:9). She was reported to have purchased her wardrobe at the most expensive places and paid up to $1,500 for one stage gown. Present day prices would likely exceed $5,000 plus. Kathryn Kuhlman lived in splendor with expensive art and a life that was close to a movie star. Her official biography said that she was “enamored of the Hollywood mystique.” (Ibid. p. 262.)
A Dark Chapter
Her involvement with Dino Kartsonakis was deeply criticized by her staff and friends. Ralph Wilkerson, a California pastor, introduced Dino to Kathryn. He was called, “A handsome young pianist with the ‘Greek god’ look. She hired him on the spot. She introduced him as “Deeee-nooo” with a great television flare. It was officially reported that she “picked out his clothes, finer than he could have ever afforded on his own, and taught him how to wear them in style. She sent him to Italy to have his suits tailored, put him up in the finest hotels and financed his record and sheet music productions.”
Buckingham said,
“She, in turn, found it pleasant to be in the company of a handsome young man who could escort her to dinner, sit beside her on the long plane rides, tip the porters, and hail the taxis. Her employees in the Pittsburgh office called him a gigolo — Kathryn’s paid escort.
“Steve Zelenko, Kathryn’s gadfly in the Pittsburgh office, saw the danger and tried to warn her. ‘Look, Miss Kuhlman, it just doesn’t look good. Okay, so the guy is fun. He’s light, He’s airy. He’s someone to cling to as you grow older. But be careful.’
“Kathryn was sure of herself. ‘I know what I’m doing. I know it looks like he’s using me, riding my coat tails. But I know what I’m doing. Don’t worry about it.’” (Ibid. pp. 262-263.)
The Mystery Of Her Death
While her life was clouded with many unanswerable difficulties, her death was like a final storm. While she was mysterious in life, she was a sad spectacle in death. She became involved with a Tink Wilkerson and his wife during the last year. Mr. Wilkerson was a regent for the Oral Roberts University. During a few short months of involvement with Mr. Wilkerson, he convinced her to purchase a $750,000 Lear jet plane, controlled every aspect of her life, helped her with his own lawyer to change her will, controlled who visited her in the hospital, controlled every aspect of her burial arrangements, kept her friends from seeing her dead body and finished the last dark chapter of her earthly life.
The report of these events in her biographies reveals what appears to be an extremely sad and sinister scenario. Her closest associates were left heartbroken and utterly disappointed. They will certainly never believe it was meant to happen that way. The Kathryn Kuhlman Foundation was left without one cent, even though a previously written will two years before had made proper arrangements to continue her ministry. The following describes her will of 1974, approximately two years before her death.
“In January 1974, Kathryn had revised her will. In it she bequeathed to Jerome and Helen Stern of Portland, Oregon, a valuable painting ‘in appreciation for the kindness evidenced by Mr. and Mrs. Stern to my sister, Myrtle Parrott, at a time when she desperately needed such kindness.’
“The balance of her tangible articles were left to Marguerite (Maggie) Hartner ‘to be retained by her absolutely or distributed as she deems fit, she knowing my general wishes with respect to the same.’ (Kathryn had given Maggie detailed information on who in the organization was to receive what items from her house and collection of jewelry.)
“In a characteristic manner she included: ‘During my lifetime I have amply provided for and assisted my sister, Geneva Dickson, and her sons, Gary and Robert, and my niece, Virginia Crane, and her children, Paul, Collene and Theresa, and for that reason I am not making any direct provisions for them herein.’
“The remainder of her estate was to be divided five ways, among her sister, Myrtle Parrott, Marguerite Hartner, Charles Loesch, Maryon Marsh, and Walter Adamack. They were to receive five percent of the ‘net fair market value of the trust estate’ on an annual basis. If there was anything left over after all five died, the remainder would be distributed to the Kathryn Kuhlman Foundation. William Houston and the Pittsburgh National Bank were appointed trustees to distribute the funds to the five persons mentioned.” (Ibid, p. 299.) But this was the old will.
“The new will was entirely different from the one she had made almost two years before. In it she bequeathed specific and substantial amounts to fourteen people who were either relatives or employees in the Pittsburgh office. Among them were Myrtle Parrott, Geneva Dickson, Agnes Kuhlman, Marguerite Hartner, Maryon Marsh and Steve Zelenko. Smaller amounts went to ten other employees. The total cash distribution was $267,500.
“Thereafter the will reads, ‘All the rest and residue of my property, real and personal, of every kind and wheresoever situated, whether vested or contingent at the time of my death, I devise and bequeath to Sue Wilkerson and D. B. Wilkerson, Jr., jointly, absolutely free and clear of any conditions or restrictions whatsoever.’
“Irvine E. Ungerman, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was appointed as the sole executor of the will.” (Ibid, pp. 300-301.)
Probably sadder than her will was the treatment of her physical remains and, also, the treatment of those who had given their lives for Miss Kuhlman. The funeral was described as following,
“Tink Wilkerson took care of the funeral arrangements at Wee Kirk o’ the Heather in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California, and her burial there. Even here controversy surrounded Kathryn Kuhlman. Wilkerson, according to Buckingham, ordered that no one was to see the body but Wilkerson and his wife. In planning the memorial service, Wilkerson asked Oral Roberts to speak. But Roberts was unprepared for what he would find at Wee Kirk o’ the Heather. ‘When I arrived at the chapel,’ Roberts told me. ‘I learned that Tink Wilkerson had made me the main speaker.’
“Since Roberts had known Kathryn for only a short period, he said he felt others from Pittsburgh should have been given the main speaking role. He felt honored to give tribute to Kathryn, he said, but felt out of place.
“Leaving David Verzilli and others out of the memorial service, however, was only a small slap in the face for the Foundation. Within days they would learn about the new will, a continuing controversy until this day.” (The Woman Behind The Miracles, p. 240.)
Mr. Wilkerson, Oral Roberts University regent and close friend to Oral Roberts, was convicted in 1992 by two U. S. District courts of fraud in connection with his auto business. (Ibid, p. 242.) Since he apparently had some questionable conduct in business matters, it is easy to imagine his conduct in the Kathryn Kuhlman concerns. Was he acting in his own interest or in the interest of directing the Kuhlman wealth, reported to have been in the millions, toward the Roberts University and other ministries? There is, of course, the possibility that all of his strange control of Miss Kuhlman was actually obedience to Oral Roberts. Miss Kuhlman was Oral Roberts’ prime competitor and there were reports of mistrust between the two rivals.
Kathryn Kuhlman And “The One World Religion”
Kathryn Kuhlman was apparently the first minister within the Evangelical/Pentecostal world that laid a foundation for the new unity movement of religions. It was said by her official biographer, Buckingham, that Miss Kuhlman did not like to conduct her services without Catholic priests on her platform. He stated,
“She had a special love for doctors, and wanted them either on the stage or on the front rows of the auditorium. The same was true of priests and nuns — especially if they were ‘in uniform’. Nothing thrilled Kathryn more than to have thirty or forty Catholic clergymen, especially if they wore clerical collars or, better yet, cassocks, sitting behind her while she ministered. Somehow it seemed to lend authenticity to what she was doing — and helped create the proper climate of a trust and understanding which was so necessary for a miracle service.” (Daughter Of Destiny, p. 221.)
She had a special affinity for the Catholic style of high church grandeur. When Kathryn went to Las Vegas for her crusade, the following was reported,
“Kathryn had but one pass through Las Vegas, and she would deliver the gospel with power! Hundreds of people in Las Vegas as well as the faithful in Youngstown, Pittsburgh, and Franklin had agreed to pray that the Holy Spirit would stir the city. Not far away a Roman Catholic priest said a Mass for the meeting the day before.” (The Woman Behind The Miracles, pp. 229-230.)
Please remember that a Catholic Mass is believed to be a time when the very bread and wine becomes the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ. Millions of Protestants died as martyrs because they rejected this blasphemous assertion. Did her affinity for Catholic dogmas help start the declension within the Pentecostal circles that has now become a watershed of deception and compromise? I certainly believe so! “Kathryn Kuhlman was an ecumenist without portfolio.” (Ibid, p. 15.) Jamie Buckingham further stated,
“In 1948 while ecumenists designed programs for denominational unity, Kathryn Kuhlman threw open the heavy old doors of north Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Music Hall. Streaming through the doors and scurrying for chairs came Protestants, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Jewish, and other groups, most related to churches but others not. And they were back the next week and the next.” (Ibid, p. 15.)
This certainly would have been acceptable if they were led out of these cold-dead churches to embrace a life of separation and New Testament lifestyle. That’s certainly what Jesus did. On October 11, 1972, Pope Paul gave her a private audience at the Vatican. Mr. Warner stated,
“Complimenting her on her ‘admirable work,’ he admonished her to ‘do it well!’ and gave her a gold, handmade engraved medallion bearing a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit.” (Ibid, p. 172.)
Slaying People In The Spirit/spirit?
The New Testament, which is our perfect pattern, records no events where a minister caused people to fall on the floor. This particular phenomenon appears, from my research, to have actually commenced with Miss Kuhlman and a handful of other healing evangelists. Without question, every great revival has recorded Holy Ghost conviction where individuals became prostrate with the weight of sin and repentance, usually on their face. The uniqueness about the phenomenon beginning with Miss Kuhlman has been its connection with an individual who laid hands on the person. In some cases, the hands may not have always connected to an individual. Usually the person was caught by those who were called catchers or ushers and they remained on the floor only briefly.
With Kathryn Kuhlman, there appeared absolutely no distinction as to who was slain, including Jewish Rabbis, Catholic priests and nuns, unsaved individuals or simply whosoever might get the attention and special prayer. That in itself is enough to forever settle the absence of validity and biblical support. The Holy Spirit never acts indiscriminately in His Holy touch on human lives. Second, whatever He does brings honor only to Jesus Christ and always has deep and profound purpose. The Kingdom of God does not play with human emotions and sensational activities. The overwhelming factor is that this questionable phenomenon has spread all over the church world and has followed exactly the pattern commenced by Miss Kuhlman.
Kathryn Kuhlman And Her Spirit Guides
I am personally convinced that Miss Kuhlman was controlled by a spirit guide masquerading as the Holy Spirit. There appears to be no other possible answer. Coming to this conclusion has been a very tough and heart-rending experience. The following quote from Benny Hinn’s book, Good Morning, Holy Spirit, will give you a glance at her attachment to either the Holy Spirit or a spirit.
“I looked up to see Kathryn burying her head in her hands as she began to sob. She sobbed and sobbed so loudly that everything came to a standstill. The music stopped. The ushers froze in their positions.
“Everyone had their eyes on her. And for the life of me I had no idea why she was sobbing. I’d never seen a minister do that before. What was she crying about? It was told later that she had never done anything like that before, and members of her staff remember it to this day.
“It continued for what seemed like two minutes. Then she thrust back her head. There she was, just a few feet in front of me. Her eyes were aflame. She was alive.
“In that instant she took on a boldness I had never seen in any person. She pointed her finger straight out with enormous power and emotion — even pain. If the devil himself had been there, she would have flicked him aside with just a tap.
“It was a moment of incredible dimension. Still sobbing, she looked out at the audience and said with such agony, ‘Please.’ She seemed to stretch out the word, ‘Plee-ease, don’t grieve the Holy Spirit.’
“She was begging. If you can imagine a mother pleading with a killer not to shoot her baby, it was like that. She begged and pleaded.
“‘Please,’ she sobbed, ‘don’t grieve the Holy Spirit.’
“Even now I can see her eyes. It was as if they were looking straight at me.
“And when she said it, you could have dropped a pin and heard it. I was afraid to breathe. I didn’t move a muscle. I was holding on to the pew in front of me wondering what would happen next.
“Then she said, ‘Don’t you understand? He’s all I’ve got!’
“I thought, ‘What’s she talking about?’
“Then she continued her impassioned plea saying, ‘Please! Don’t wound Him. He’s all I’ve got. Don’t wound the One I love!’” (Good Morning, Holy Spirit, Benny Hinn, pp. 8-9.)
Her words reveal a view of this spirit that is extremely unusual. She said, “Don’t you understand? He’s all I’ve got.” Again, she said, “Please don’t wound Him, He’s all I’ve got. Don’t wound the One I love.”
The Holy Spirit absolutely never speaks of Himself. He glorifies Jesus Christ in His church and in you and Jesus Christ alone. Jesus said,
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” (John 16:13-14).
She was enamored with this “spirit” that came upon her. Often she spoke of her fear that he would leave her. She would wait behind the stage, even at times while the service languished for this “spirit person” to manifest himself. When he came she was electric and performed as the greatest of actors. Hinn continued in his description of Kuhlman’s emphasis on this spirit whom she called the Holy Spirit. He said,
“In my church, the pastor talked about the Holy Spirit. But not like this. His references had to do with the gifts or tongues or prophecy — not “He’s my closest, most personal, most intimate, most beloved friend.” Kathryn Kuhlman was telling me about a person that was more real than you or I.” (Ibid, p. 9.)

The Modern Day “Holy Spirit”

There is clearly something amiss in our present day emphasis on the Holy Ghost. Apostle Paul stated, “God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 6:14a) Deception is rank as churches talk about the Spirit’s operation that is so unfamiliar to biblical truth. Entire events on the church calendar are being planned to promote the Spirit/spirit and to teach people these new ideas. A cross-less Pentecost is nothing but the making of a religious holocaust.
Benny Hinn, who upheld Kathryn Kuhlman as his mentor, states on the cover of his book, Good Morning, Holy Spirit,
“How do you recognize [the Holy Spirit]? It’s as simple as that little voice you hear when you are about to fall asleep, the voice that reminds you, ‘You haven’t prayed today.’ Or He may say, ‘You haven’t read the Word today.’ That’s the Spirit speaking, tugging at your soul. You know Him already, but He yearns for you to know Him more.” (Ibid, cover.)
No, never! The Holy Spirit wants you to know Jesus more. He never speaks of Himself, but only of Jesus. Masquerading spirits and spirit guides have become the hallmark of the New Wave churches. I believe it began with Kathryn Kuhlman and other ministers and now continues through Benny Hinn and a large portion of the same brand of churches. The only purity of the church is the living message of the Cross and the finished work of Jesus Christ on that cross. It was bound to occur that the loss of separation and biblical holiness would produce apostasy. That apostasy is now united with a satanically-controlled “One World Religion” preparing to deceive a liberal multitude. This deception will be exposed and those that continue in truth and holiness will be exonerated by the Lord of the Church, Jesus Christ Himself.

Kathryn Kuhlman Is Accused of Not Keeping the Faith

By Lois Armstrong

When I walk on the stage,” maintains minister-cum-faith-healer Kathryn Kuhlman, “I am as simple as a child.” Behind the scenes, however, life is a bit more complicated for the Pittsburgh-based Kuhlman, star of her own syndicated TV show, author of three throbbing best-sellers, and an evangelist earning $2 million a year. Paul Bartholomew, her former TV agent and “personal administrator,” has charged her with breach of his contract and is suing for $515,000 in damages. More embarrassing, potentially, is Bartholomew’s accusation that the evangelist has diverted funds for her own use from the charitable, tax-exempt Kathryn Kuhlman Foundation.

The cause of Kuhlman’s falling-out with him, Bartholomew suspects, may be his sleek, dark-haired brother-in-law—and her former pianist-companion—Dino Kartsonakis. The 33-year-old Kartsonakis, who performed with Kuhlman for five years, broke with her last February after she refused to give him a $20,000-a-year contract and, he claims, vigorously objected to his steady girl—now his wife—Debby. At first, says Kartsonakis, a former Juilliard School of Music student with a dozen record albums to his credit, he had been attracted to Kuhlman as a performer and fellow believer. Later, he says, she began to “feel relaxed around me and could let her red locks down.” A devotee of expensive restaurants and first-class travel, Kuhlman frequently took Kartsonakis along as an escort, and reportedly paid for his tailor-made suits. In return, he maintains, she possessively demanded all his attention and criticized anyone he dated. “As long as I had a whip and a chair, everything was all right,” he jokes, “but every once in a while I had to escape the cage.”

Eventually, claims Kartsonakis, he became disillusioned by Kuhlman’s “double standard of living.” Although Kuhlman purportedly accepts only a $25,000-a-year salary, Kartsonakis speculates that her home in suburban Fox Chapel, Pa. contains more than $1 million worth of art and antiques. Art works in her Newport Beach, Calif. apartment have been appraised at $184,000, and Kartsonakis says that her jewelry is worth another $1 million. “She wouldn’t be caught dead in costume jewelry,” he insists. “She wants the best of everything.”

Kartsonakis professes to be grateful to Kuhlman but does not regret their estrangement. “Her overt acts were in complete contrast with what was being preached from the stage,” he asserts. “When I got caught up in this web, I prayed and prayed to the Lord. Nobody else understood; all they saw was the glamour.”

Kuhlman was in a Tulsa hospital late last month with a “minor heart flare-up.” She and her lawyers have denied all of Bartholomew’s complaints, leaving the former agent to recall her words when he was hired. “Paul,” he quotes her as saying, “you will have a job with me until Jesus comes again.” Kuhlman refers to Kartsonakis’ allegations as an attempt to “ruin my ministry.” She denies her onetime escort’s claim that she owns a flawless 15-carat diamond (“I wish I did,” she remarks with a smile) and declines to discuss innuendos about her drinking habits. “I wouldn’t dignify that question with an answer,” she says. “What do you do when you’re in India—drink the water?” As for the rest of Kartsonakis’ charges, she says, “I have to live with myself. I can’t be a dual personality. My life is an open book

NOTES ON Dino Kartsonakis

Dino was born in New York City and attended Glad Tidings Tabernacle. He began playing his grandmother’s piano at the age of three. The first song he had learned was “At the Cross.” He was enrolled in piano lessons at age five. Dino received his professional training at The King’s College as well as the Juilliard School of Music. For many years he served as pianist for the evangelist Kathryn Kuhlman. Dino has traveled extensively and produced well over 50 recordings on his own as well as mainstream labels. He has worked with various other evangelists.

Dino has hosted two television shows, the “Dino and Debby Show” in the 1970s with his first wife Deborah Keener and “The Dino Show” which presently airs weekly on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Dino has described his style as combining the classical and the sacred. His technique has been described as fluid and brilliant and he has been termed the “Christian Liberace” because of his flair, costumes, pianos and jewelry.

Many of his works are religious-based or contemporary arrangements of classical works. Dino also performs in his own show in Branson, Missouri. Among his accomplishments is production of what is known as the “Peace Series”, a collection of CDs featuring more subdued piano arrangements against a backdrop of nature sounds.

Dino performed at Carnegie Hall on December 15, 2005. He has participated in an auction benefiting Music Cares, a charitable organization that helps struggling musicians and entertainers.
Personal life

In 1974, Dino married his first wife, Deborah Keener, and together they have a daughter, Christina (who is now a singer-songwriter and producer, and goes by the stage name Sugar Dame).  After touring as Dino & Debby, the two divorced in 1981.

In 1986, Dino married his second and current wife, Cheryl, who is the sister of Gospel music singer, Gary McSpadden, formerly of The Imperials and the Gaither Vocal Band. Cheryl has a daughter from a previous marriage.
