A1WHY I DON’T LIKE JOEL OSTEEN THE ENTERTAINER

JOEL DOESN’T OPERATE IN THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

1 Corinthians 12: Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

HE DOESN’T USE  HIS WEALTH TO HELP THE POOR AND NEEDY.

Galatians 2: 10 They desired only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I also was eager to do.

HE DOESN’T PREACH THAT PEOPLE SHOULD REPENT OF THINGS LIKE APOSTLE PAUL DID IN 2 Corinthians 7:
1    Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2    Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one.
3    I do not say this to condemn; for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together.
4    Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation.
5    For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears.
6    Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,
7    and not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.
8    For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while.
9    Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.
10    For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
11    For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
12    Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you.

Joel Osteen Blasphemes “I Am”
By Anthony Wade (about the author)

God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, “I am has sent me to you.'” — Exodus 3: 14 (ESV)

If you heard there was a new Christian book coming out entitled, “The Power of I Am”, you might get very excited at first. It could be a fantastic journey through the awesome attributes of God! Perhaps it is an in depth study on the seven “I am” statements from Jesus in the Gospel of John. Maybe it is a look at the incredible encounter Moses had with God when the creator of the universe told us His glorious name — I Am! Either way, what a subject for believers to embrace. A God focused book about the God who saved us while we were yet still sinners. The God who is the bread of life, the light of the world, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the way the truth and the life and the vine to our branches. Only the truly reprobate could take the moment when God personalized Himself to the human race and make it about us. Only someone who has no clue about doctrine and less understanding of blasphemy could take the amazing concept of I Am and turn it into a decree and declare, word of faith, nonsensical heresy. In other words, only Joel Osteen.

Beloved we have no more time left to be coddling wolves. I understand that Joel seems like a great guy. He has a million dollar smile and a positive, uplifting, motivational gift that few have. None of that is going to matter when we are standing before Christ giving account and discover that He never knew us. I cannot tell you how many brothers and sisters give a nod and a wink when it comes to Osteen. Oh what harm is he doing! He makes me feel better about myself! It is time to stop making our salvation to be just about us. There are other people out there and they do not need to hear that this is their best life now. They need to hear they are a sinner and Christ died to save them. The gospel Joel preaches is no gospel at all. It is completely different with a different Jesus that has zero power to save anyone. The Bible teaches us about those who would bring a different gospel:

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel– not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. – Galatians 1: 6-9 (ESV)

So Joel Osteen’s new book is entitled, “The Power of I Am” but it has nothing to do with God. It has to do with you. It has to do with the power Joel says is inside of you. He thinks so little about God that he cannot even see how utterly blasphemous it is to take the name of the Lord, I Am, and use it to prop up his word faith heresy. It is staggering in it insolence and obliviousness. This book idea came out of the popularity of a sermon he gave by the same title. Oprah loved it so much she used it in her life class series and Joel was happy to come on and pitch it. Here is a link to the sermon:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kjSK-PcU9o

The opening premise is that what follows our self-statements that begin with “I am” determine our life. That what follows the words “I am” will “come looking for you.” So if you choose to say I am ugly, then ugliness will come looking for you. If you say I am poor then poverty will seek you out. The good news according to Joel is that we get to choose the I am statements that come out of our mouth. So if we say, I am healthy then health will start looking for us. If we say I am blessed then blessing will start looking for us. The principle he claims is at work here is that the positive I am statements “trigger God” to send these things to you.

I kid you not. He actually said that. For the pro-Joel crowd who cannot see the enormity of damage he causes in the kingdom we need to pause here and consider these opening heresies. God is not up in heaven waiting for us to say positive things about ourselves so He can finally release blessings upon us. He is not some narcissistic tooth fairy. He is omnipotent and that means all-powerful. Who is god in the scenario Joel has outlined? We are! Our words control God! What absurdities! Imagine a person seeking God because they were just diagnosed with terminal cancer and they hear this nonsense. That all they have to do is say I am healthy every morning and then God will be activated to send health their way. Then they get worse. Then they die. Then they go to hell because they were separated from God and Joel did nothing to help the separation. Instead he sold her some magic beans that had no magic in them at all. What damage is then done to her family who watched her say these silly self-help statements every morning while she was dying? Will they ever want to come to God? Probably not. Probably an entire family wiped out from the possibility of salvation even though the cancer may have been the triggering event to send that woman seeking the Lord! At one point Joel says that even if you are poor you should say I am well-off. How would that work in the slums of third world countries Joel? If your theology is only good for the suburbs then it is by definition false. So we come to the first Bible twisting of this sermon:

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2: 10 (ESV)

To Joel, because the New Living Translation (NLT) says “masterpiece” instead of workmanship, this means that God wants us to constantly remind ourselves that we are a masterpiece. A work of art. One of a kind. Me, me, me. The problem is that the NLT often misses the mark when it comes to good translation and to quote verse ten here out of context is borderline criminal. Verse ten is part of a teaching on the new way of grace versus the old way of works. That we cannot by our own works do anything. That we are actually God’s workmanship, created by Him for His good pleasure and to do His works He has laid out for us. Powerful when you meditate on it but Joel Osteen takes it and turns it into a really bad Saturday Night Live skit of the Stuart Smalley show.

Next up Joel wants to use the Bible to show people who spoke positively about themselves. So he heads to the Psalms, which are largely very uplifting and positive and refers us to Psalm 139 where David said, “I praise you because you made me in a wonderful way.” Osteen then wonders what it would be like if we all talked about ourselves like David did. So what’s wrong with that preacher? Two things. First it misrepresents what God is trying to get across in Psalm 139 and secondly, it cherry picks a verse and makes a false assumption about David. So you can ascribe to Joel’s teaching if you like but do not delude yourself into thinking it is remotely what God said and if we are not approaching the Bible to hear from God then why approach it at all? Psalm 139 is not about David positively confessing who he is. It is a celebration of the omniscience and omnipresence of God Almighty! The one verse he references out of context is meant to marvel at the work God has done in creating us. It is to bring glory to God but Joel Osteen uses it to teach people to bring glory to themselves. Secondly however, he leaves the listener with the impression that David believed in positive confession and the word faith tenets when nothing in Scripture indicates that. It is just as easy to find verses David wrote that were of the opposite emotions:

My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me.Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me.And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest;yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; SelahI would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.” – Psalm 55: 4-8 (ESV)

What? David confessing that his heart is in anguish? That the terrors of death have fallen upon him? That horror overwhelms him? Doesn’t he realize that anguish, terror, and horror will seek him out? What absolute nonsense from Osteen. What is more disturbing however is that this teaching will slaughter sheep. It will lead people to hell yet we think because he does it with a smile we ought to give him a pass. But we should not and hopefully the next scripture abuse is enough to convince us. Osteen tells the story of Sarai, the wife of Abraham. He explains that because a woman not bearing children was looked down upon Sarai must have had a lot of bad “I ams.” Joel said he could see her saying, “I am a failure, I am not attractive, I am inferior.” But now she has this promise from God that as an older woman she was going to have a baby but according to Osteen, “God knew it would never come to pass unless He changed her I ams.” He would go on to say that this was so imperative that God changed her name to Sarah, which means princess. So according to Pastor Joel, now Sarah had to hear over and over again that she was a princess every time someone said her name. Good morning princess (Sarah). Pass the ketchup princess (Sarah). This way it got down on the inside of her. So she went from I am a failure to I am a princess. Wow, what a story! What a tale of transformation! If only it were true! But it is not beloved. NONE of this is true. None of it is accurate. None of this is scriptural. Let’s go down the list of bible twisting:

1) While it is true that barrenness for women was looked down upon Joel reads into scripture all of the negative “I ams.” Nowhere does the Bible even hint that Sarai said all of these negative things about herself.

2) Once again the god Osteen is preaching about is not the God of the Bible. The notion that God could not bring something He wanted to pass unless we changed our self talk is ludicrous. It is arrogantly ludicrous.

3) Osteen teaches here that God changed her name to Sarah in order to change her self image and reverse the curse of the negative I ams. Perhaps Joel should have checked some research materials first. The names Sarai and Sarah mean the same thing in Hebrew – princess. This eviscerates his entire premise that now she heard from everyone she was a princess because her former name meant the same exact thing. Most scholars believe that the true significance of the name change is a seal of the covenant God was making. Why let thousands of years of solid research and bible teaching stop you when you got books to sell?

Beloved if you read this and think it is no big deal that is really a big problem. That someone would abuse the sacred Word of God for what amounts to shameful monetary gain should offend us. Forget Kentucky clerks who do not understand the Bible. This is where we ought to feel grieved in our spirit because not only is His Word being butchered but it is being done to lead people away from Christ! For the unsaved person at his church that day do you think their biggest problem is they don’t think highly about themselves? Probably the opposite! Their biggest problem is they do not know Jesus Christ. It would be as offensive as if someone preached that when we say the right “I ams” we invite the goodness of God. As if His goodness needs an invitation from our desperately wicked hearts. Yet that is exactly what Osteen says in this sermon. It would be as offensive as if someone said that the words we speak can bless or curse our future. You guessed it beloved. He said it during this sermon. As if we control the blessings of God by merely speaking it. As if we can actually lay a curse upon ourselves with our words even though Jesus broke every curse at Calvary! The unmitigated gall! But he was not done as Osteen next rips a verse out of context from the Prophet Joel where God was telling the nations to not look for excuses to avoid the coming war. The line is – let your weak say I am strong. What Joel Osteen does to this is breathtakingly evil:

“Scripture says, let the weak say I am strong. So let the sick say I am healthy. Let the poor say I am well-off.” – Joel Osteen

Osteen of course added the second and third lines. They are not in the Bible. Can you imagine someone about to lose their home and this is what they are told God is saying? Or someone very ill. There was a story a few weeks back about a woman who refused cancer treatment because she was believing her “seed faith” was going to heal her by all the money she was sending in to Kenneth Copeland’s ministries. She of course died. May God have mercy on Kenneth Copeland because he will answer for ever sheep he has slaughtered in pursuit of the riches of this world. The same goes for Joel Osteen. Even though this is an enormous amount of heresy for less than a half hour of preaching, Osteen was not quite done yet. He next goes into the story of the 12 spies and teaches that the 10 with the bad report simply had bad “I ams” while Caleb and Joshua had good “I ams.” As silly as this is what he does next is far more egregious:

“These ten spies went on to say, “Moses, why did you even bring us here. We will die in the wilderness.” God answered back something very powerful. He said in Numbers 14:28 “I will do for you exactly what you have said. You said you were going to die in the wilderness, so you will die in the wilderness.” God is saying the same thing to us. I’m going to do exactly what you’ve been saying.” – Joel Osteen

What? Beloved this is why understanding scripture is so crucial. The point here was not that they had negative I ams. It was that they had no faith in God. More importantly however is the presumptive exhortation that God is saying the same thing to us today. Is this sinking in yet? How wrong is it to fill believers and those seeking God with false hopes of fairy tales regarding God. That He is just waiting for us to speak so that He might act. Once again, that makes us God, not Him. In the theology of Joel Osteen, we are gods. That is what word faith believes. A lot of it is centered on the butchering of one particular scripture, which Osteen mentions throughout this sermon:

Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed–God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; – Romans 4: 16-17 (ESV)

Osteen teaches at different points in this half hour that we are taught to call things that were not as if they were. He openly admits that many of these affirmations may not even be true but that we are to call things that are not as if they were. That our words have the creative power of God. Let me assure you they do not. These verses from Romans cannot be clearer. It is GOD who has the power to call things that are not as if they were. That is because He is above our time. He has foreknowledge. He knew Abraham was going to be the father of many nations even before the child of promise was born. These verses do not teach us that we have this power at all.

But therein lies the rub beloved. The theology of Joel Osteen teaches us that we are in fact little gods. That our words have the power to create when only God’s does. That we are to call things into existence when only God can. He is not a brother in error. He is a wolf of the highest order. His intent is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is his teaching. For years I have been warning against him. That every day is not a Friday and this is not our best life. That we do not go to church and worship for ourselves as his wife once famously quipped. We have to start thinking of the people who are too young in the Lord to know any better and those desperately seeking him who get taught this garbage. That if we just think better of ourselves then all the riches of this life will be ours. The entire concept of his latest book is utter blasphemy against the name of God. A revered name. A name to fear. The name at which every knee shall bow and every tongue confess. Instead, Joel Osteen took that name, made it about you, slapped a glossy cover on it and for only $20 you can read about how great you art. Heaven help Joel Osteen to repent and those who follow him, may the Lord show them mercy. But for us who truly know better it is time to stop coddling the wolf. I am has sent me to you beloved

One of the obvious results of Charismania infiltrating the church is a very self-centered, narcissistic showy spirit pervading our faith. Attend any random Pentecostal church and you will see what I mean. Dancers and flaggers with fluorescent clothing distracting people away from God during corporate worship. An exhibition in unbiblical tongues designed to draw attention to the speaker instead of the Lord. False healings provided with a swipe of the preacher’s jacket or some absurd parlor trick usage of the “Holy Spirit.” Creation of false theologies out of whole cloth like the “anointing” or “impartation.” It has become so pervasively bad that entire schools now exist that claim they can teach the gifts of the Spirit ….

http://www.828ministries.com/articles/Sacrificing-Sacred-Penteco-by-Anthony-Wade-Christianity_Faith_Spirit_Spirits-150802-345.html

Sincerity means nothing. You can be sincere and sincerely wrong. The only thing that matters is truth. The truth of Scripture and doctrine is what leads people to salvation. False teaching is what divides the body and leads people to hell by having them think they are saved when they are not. These are not small matters beloved. The eternal destinations of the souls of men are on the line. The bridal paradigm is false. The dominionist theology is false. The Joel’s army doctrine is false. Soaking prayer, contemplative prayer, and eastern mysticism are false. Glory clouds, gold dust, angel feathers and gem stones are false. Claiming to have seen the Father is false. Claiming direct revelation to avoid being questioned is false. Carnal worship music is false. Bethel is false. IHOP is false.

Reinhard Bonnke is false. Misty Edwards is false. Bill Johnson is false. Mike Bickle is false. Now unfortunately, we can add that Francis Chan is false as well

TELL JOEL OSTEEN

the blamelessTELL JOEL OSTEEN YOU CANNOT HAVE IMMORALITY IN THE CHURCH OR THE BODY OF CHRIST – IT MUST BE JUDGED

1 Corinthians 2:15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

1 Corinthians 5: Immorality Defiles the Church
1    It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles — that a man has his father’s wife!
2    And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you.
3    For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed.
4    In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
5    deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
6    Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?
7    Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
8    Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9    I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.
10    Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
11    But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner — not even to eat with such a person.
12    For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?
13    But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

TELL JOEL OSTEEN CONTINUAL WILLFUL SIN IS A NO NO

1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

It is sufficiently clear from a number of scriptures what sin is and that if we continue to willfully sin and be enslaved to what God says sin is, of which homosexuality is one, without confession and repentance from that sin, then we do not have the Holy Spirit of God. Without the Holy Spirit operating in one’s life we cannot experience the new birth as a child of God, and we cannot enter the Kingdom of God, nor can we truly overcome sin but be enslaved by it. It is that serious and blunt. Now this is where the grey areas seem to arrive. We are all sinners and imperfect and can never fully obey all the laws and commandments of God while we are on earth, however close to obeying everything the Lord asks us to. It is only by the love, grace and the mercy of God, not our works that we are saved. It is only by the shed blood of Jesus that we are able to stand before God and are imputed righteous in spite of our past or existing or future sins. Yet, God, wants us to change and become holy and not sin and certainly not be enslaved by sin. It is God’s plan and will that we be holy living in union with him. With the gift of the Holy Spirit, we can have the power to overcome self, sin, Satan and death. It takes faith and courage to follow and obey God but his promise is that we will become like Jesus and sin will suffocate and die with the life of Christ, God’s Spirit in us. If we do sin, and the Spirit will tell us either from Scripture or within our conscience, then we are told to confess our sins, to repent and turn to God away from sin and what displeases the Lord and cry out to him for forgiveness and strength to overcome in the name of Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit. The issue for homosexuals and those that support them, is what are we doing to overcome that known sin. If one does not acknowledge it as sin then one does not take the revelations given to us in what sin is and our whole foundation is elsewhere, but not on scripture. That is a very serious situation to be in for it rejects the authority of God and what he says. It puts the whole meaning of anything the scriptures says as questionable and open to one’s own interpretation and emphasis. When that happens we can only pray for a change of heart and mind. Anyone including Joel Osteen is muddying the waters and probably poisoning the waters if they ignore what scripture clearly says and they will be held accountable. God will judge them. And believers will discern them to be false teachers and prophets

JOEL OSTEEN IS A FOOL AND DECEIVER WHO DOESN’T DO WHAT JESUS DID IN THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS TO CHRISTIANS. JESUS REBUKED CHRISTIANS PUBLICLY, OPENLY TOLD THEIR SINS AND TOLD THEM TO REPENT OR HE WOULD JUDGE THEM HARSHLY!

REPENT OR PERISH

ACTRUE SALVATION RESULTS IN THE SINNER BEING CHANGED TOTALLY AND BECOMING A NEW CREATION AND NOT REMAINING UNCHANGED AND LIVING AS A SINNER?

JESUS CHRIST THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE SAID
Matthew 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Luke 13: Repent or Perish
1 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”

OF COURSE DECEIVED FALSE PREACHER JOEL OSTEEN DOESN’T TELL THE WORLDLY ONES TO REPENT OR THEY WILL ALL PERISH BECAUSE HE DOESN’T WANT TO CONDEMN OR OFFEND ANY ONE?

And in a true Christian church or meeting when leaders or coordinators lead a church or community service, they will have not only led people to salvation and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and they will pray and have others pray for the different needs of the people. Like the Apostle Paul who said, “For I long to see you, that I might impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, that is, that we may be mutually encouraged, both yours and mine” (Rom. 1: 11).

WOLVES IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING

JO21 Contrasts between Commercial and Biblical Christianity

After Pentecost (Acts 3 and later), Christ-followers were first involved in something called “the Way” (Acts 24:22). After the gospel progressed to the non-Jewish world with the planting of the church in Antioch, the world called Christ-followers “Christians” because they were made up of both Jews and Gentiles who exhibited a radical devotion to be like Christ (Acts 11:26).

Since Christianity was legalized by Emperor Constantine in the Edict of Milan (313 AD), Christianity went from being “the Way” to an institution that included nominal members who knew nothing regarding the radical faith of their early forbears. Since that time Christianity has become a popular, commercialized entity with only a remnant of followers with a biblically-based, radical commitment. (By “radical” I do not mean extreme or fanatical with odd anti-social and/or violent behavior; I mean the dictionary definition: “radical: affecting the fundamental nature of something; far-reaching or thorough”.)

Unfortunately, what many today deem as radical was considered normal Christianity in the early church, and what is considered normal in the present church would be considered compromising to the early church.

The following are contrasts between commercial Christianity and biblical Christianity:

  1. Commercial Christian pastors preach culturally accommodating messages. Biblical Christian pastors preach culturally convicting messages (Acts 2:37-38; Acts 24:24-25).
  2. Commercial Christianity encourages adherence to the status quo. Biblical Christianity encourages reformation of the status quo (Acts 17:6).
  3. Commercial Christianity invites. Biblical Christianity proclaims (Acts 17:23).
  4. Commercial Christianity converts people to their churches. Biblical Christianity converts people to Jesus (John 1:12-13; Acts 8:35).
  5. Commercial Christianity encourages congregational membership. Biblical Christianity develops world-changing disciples (Acts 6:7; Matthew 28:19; 2 Timothy 2:2).
  6. Commercial Christianity separates faith from public policy. Biblical Christianity applies the gospel to policy (Matthew 5:13-16).
  7. Commercial Christianity is defined by the state. Biblical Christianity redefines the state of affairs (Daniel 4:19-37; Acts 8:4-8).
  8. Commercial Christianity is complicit with the powers that be. Biblical Christianity casts down the ungodly powers that be (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).
  9. Commercial Christianity is a sweet-smelling savor to those who are perishing. Biblical Christianity is a sweet-smelling savor to those who are being saved (Philippians 2:15-16).
  10. Commercial Christianity is not distinguishable from the world. Biblical Christianity lives in the world but is not of the world (John17:14-15).
  11. Commercial Christianity often uses biblical language for secular reasons. Biblical Christians often uses secular language for biblical reasons (1 Corinthians 9:20-23).
  12. Commercial Christianity is man-centered in its goals. Biblical Christianity is God-centered in its goals (Colossians 1:15-18).
  13. Commercial Christianity elicits praise only from people. Biblical Christianity brings favor from both God and people (Acts 2:47).
  14. Commercial Christianity leaves a temporal imprint. Biblical Christianity leaves an eternal imprint (Hebrews 11:4).
  15. Commercial Christianity leaves a legacy of compromise. Biblical Christianity leaves a legacy of sacrificial commitment (2 Timothy 4:6-8).
  16. Commercial Christianity attracts followers by compromising the truth. Biblical Christianity attracts followers through the promotion of the truth (Acts 2:40-41).
  17. Commercial Christianity is one step away from being irrelevant. Biblical Christianity is always in or near revival (Acts 9:31).
  18. Commercial Christianity accommodates a backslidden lifestyle. Biblical Christianity accommodates a lifestyle of faith, fidelity and freedom (John 8:31-36).
  19. Commercial Christianity emphasizes hyper-grace without moral obligations. Biblical Christianity preaches a radical grace that produces radical sanctification (Titus 2:11-12; Romans 8:3-4).
  20. Commercial Christianity brings about a commitment to Sunday services. Biblical Christianity brings about commitment to a life of service (John 13:13-27).
  21. Commercial Christianity invites people to make Jesus our personal Savior. Biblical Christianity admonishes people to surrender to Jesus as our Lord so He can save us (Romans 10:9-10).

12 Earmarks of a True Apostolic Movement.
By  JOSEPH MATTERA

How to recognize the difference between denomination-led movements and the work of the Spirit.
There is a global apostolic movement that is shaking Christianity and expanding the church as never before! This is an important shift away from the typical denominationally led church movements of the past. It is important for us to understand the difference between an apostolic movement from a denominational movement.

The following are generalizations that may or may not be true for particular denominations and apostolic movements:

  1. Apostolic is usually led by one strong visionary. Denominations are led by a board.
  2. Apostolic is usually mission driven. Denomination are policy driven.
  3. Apostolic is usually missiological in its biblical hermeneutics. Denomination is usually theological, sociological or culturally driven.
  4. Apostolic emphasizes covenantal relationships based on voluntary associations. Denominations emphasize hierarchical structures and business in their gatherings.
  5. Apostolic emphasizes the present move of God in the earth. Denominations emphasize the glory days of the past.
  6. Apostolic emphasizes the movement. Denominations emphasize the institution.
  7. Apostolic leaders are led by the Spirit in regards to ministry placement. Denominational clergy are led by their bishop or hierarchy.
  8. Apostolic believes in biblical inerrancy. Most denominations believe in a higher critical form of inspiration. (Their line of reasoning goes like this: Because the church gave the Scriptures, the church has the right to change them, update them, etc. through church councils and official writings. Another thing said is that only the actual words of Jesus Christ in the Gospels are inspired of God.)
  9. Apostolic emphasizes the power of Christ in terms of releasing faith to fulfill ministry. Denominations emphasize the power of committees to implement strategic plans.
  10. Apostolic emphasizes the local church as the primary training ground for ministry. Denominations emphasizes the seminary.
  11. Apostolic empowers the laity to minister (Eph. 4:11, 12). In denominations the clergy are expected to do the work of the ministry.
  12. Apostolic movements believe apostolic succession is functionally based upon a divine calling, ministerial fruit and anointing. Denominations believe it is merely transferred through the laying on of hands during an ecclesial ceremony.

An Appeal to Joel and Victoria Osteen

Dear Joel and Victoria, I hope and pray that you will read this letter and that you take to heart the things I’m sharing. I write as a friend wanting to help, not an enemy wanting to hurt, and everything I write, I write out of love for God, love for you, and love for the church and the world.

I have said many times that I’m glad to see your smiling faces on TV as you speak about Jesus rather than some stern-faced, joyless, angry Christian leader. And I believe you genuinely do care about people and want them to find wholeness in the Lord.

Joel, I appreciate the fact that you end every service by asking people to get right with God, having them pray a prayer where they say to Jesus, “I repent of my sins, come into my heart, I make you Lord and Savior.”

The big problem is that you haven’t told them what their sins are, and you haven’t told them what real repentance is. And since you are speaking to people around the world, you can’t possibly assume that all of them understand the meaning of sin and redemption and repentance. (Most American Christians don’t even understand these things today.)

In short, you have not shared with them the whole counsel of God, and by telling them only part of the story, you have done what the false prophets of ancient Israel did: “You superficially treat the fracture of My people saying to them, ‘All is well, all is well,’ when nothing is well” (Jer. 6:14, my translation).

A true physician tells his patients what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. As one preacher of old, Jean Daille, once said, “Ministers are not cooks, but physicians and therefore should not study to delight the palate, but to recover the patient.”

Have you been more of a junk-food cook than a physician? Have you been afraid to tell people their true condition? Have you been so concerned with making them feel good about themselves and giving them a sense of hope that you failed to diagnose their terminal sin disease?

Paul said to the elders of Ephesus, “I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:26-27).

Do you really believe in your heart of hearts that you have declared the whole counsel of God to your listening audience?

God has given you one of the largest platforms for the gospel in human history. Can you say before Him that you are “innocent of the blood of all”?

Have you ever taught extensively on the words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount? Have you ever worked your way through one of the letters of Paul? If not, why not?

Proverbs tells us that, “Whoever rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than he who flatters with his tongue” (28:23). Do you believe God’s Word, or do you feel you have found a better way to do His work?

I appreciate the fact that you hold up your Bible before you preach, as your father did, and you have people make a confession about God’s Word, as you also learned to do from your father. But do you really preach that holy Word?

Shortly before Paul was martyred for his faith, he reminded Timothy that, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16).

He also gave him this solemn commission: “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching” (2 Tim. 4:1-2).

Is this your pattern of preaching and ministry? Do you rebuke in love (Prov. 27:5) as well as exhort and encourage?

Perhaps it’s time to ask yourself honestly where you fit in this warning from Paul: “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths” (2 Tim. 4:1-4).

Wouldn’t it be utterly heartbreaking if, on the day you stand before God, you discovered that you were one of these teachers? Wouldn’t it be tragic if your efforts were found to be wood, hay and stubble on that great and glorious Day (1 Cor. 3:11-15)? And may I ask you candidly if you even talk about that holy day of accounting?

Some Christians have referred to you and Victoria as outright heretics, others have said that you are fighting against the Holy Spirit (since the Spirit convicts the world of sin but your preaching does not), others have said that you are a pagan religionist, while others have said that your superficial message of material prosperity cannot bear the weight of the gospel.

These are very serious charges, but rather than just saying, “Hey, I’m just going to love everybody and stay in my lane,” perhaps you should ask if these leaders might be saying something you need to hear. Is there any truth at all in their words? Could it be that God’s lane for you is different than the lane you’re in?

It would be far better for you to see your TV ratings fall and your crowds dwindle than to displease the Lord. (Perhaps if you preached the whole counsel of God, your audience would end up even bigger.)

By all means, you should be an ambassador of hope and joy—that’s all part of the gospel—but if you don’t speak about sin plainly and without compromise and if you don’t tell people that there will be suffering and hardship in this world as we follow Jesus, then the hope that you offer will only go skin deep.

Have you ever wondered about how your message plays out among Christians who are going through hell on Earth because of their faith in Jesus? Have you ever thought about what your message sounds like to persecuted believers today who just had to leave their homes and possessions behind to flee for their lives?

And Victoria, if I may speak with you for just a moment, your recent comments that have gone viral have drawn a stream of well-deserved criticism, even if some of it came in an ugly and wrong spirit.

The reality is that our lives are supposed to revolve around God; He doesn’t revolve around us. And even though worship and praise are good for us too, since they focus our attention on who God is and bring us into His presence, we do not worship or serve Him for ourselves but for Him. As Paul wrote, Jesus died for all so “that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised” (2 Cor. 5:15).

This is Gospel 101, as basic as it gets, yet you turned things upside down during that one regrettable moment on TV, a moment that reflected a wrong, off-base theology that starts with us and that says God is here to please us rather than starting with God and recognizing that we are here to please Him.

Joel and Victoria, I know these words have been strong, but they are written with love and concern. And since I have no connection to anyone on your team and I don’t know of any way to reach you directly, after prayer and reflection, I felt that this was the best way to go, addressing public statements publicly, jealous for the Name of Jesus, jealous for your massive listening audience, and jealous for both of you.

Without a doubt, there are many people you have helped; you have also hurt far more than you realize. I pray you will take this to heart.

THE BIG MISTAKE

AA

RAVENOUS WOLVES MEETING WITH EACH OTHER (MATT. 7: 15)!

Evangelical charismatics = NO DISCERNMENT. They lean on their own understanding, extra biblical “dreams, visions and “words of knowledge” instead of Sola Scriptura – Scripture alone — Well look at them now >>> The names of the delegates in the photograph (Left to Right) are: Carol Arnott, John Arnott (Partners in Harvest), Brian Stiller (World Evangelical Alliance), Kenneth Copeland (KCM), Pope Francis, Thomas Schirrmacher (WEA), Geoff Tunnicliffe (WEA), James & Betty Robison (Life Outreach International) and Tony Palmer (The Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches & The Order of the Ark Community).

The big mistake that is being made is that these people are not “Charismatic Christians” but rather they are “false Charismatic Evangelical Christians”. It is a dis-service to the Holy Spirit to call them “Charismatic” because they have counterfeit/false gifts which do not come from the Holy Spirit: false prophecy, false tongues, false everything (Matt. 24: 24; Mk. 13: 22). Their false works tell us clearly that they “have received the mark of the beast” (Rev. 19: 20). They are not of the fellowship of Jesus Christ as you can see them standing together with the pope. I guess the best thing we can say about them is that they are today’s Scribes and Pharisees of whom, as Jesus said, “You are wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God” (Matt. 22: 29).

Jesus publically rebuked Pharisees and even called them names. (Go reread the gospels).

Many mistakenly believe that it is wrong to expose error and to name the guilty teachers; but they are wrong according to the Bible. They warned by letter and by Mouth those to shun and to avoid.
Paul named Peter publicly.
Paul named Demas for loving the world.
Paul named Hymenaeus and Alexander.
Paul named Hymenaeus and Philetus.
Paul named Alexander the coppersmith.
John named Diotrephes

What kind of love lets wolves like these men decimate the flock of God. If you were about to drink deadly poison, would it be love for me to stand by and not warn you?

The Pope teaches another gospel and another Jesus and worships, prays to and bows down to Mary. He is an idol worshipper. What fellowship has light with darkness?

The Bible Admonishes us to expose error, not join in with it and condone it.

Eph 5:11 “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them”

“Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. ” 2 Tim 4:2-3

“A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;” Titus 3:10

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.” 1 Cor 5:11-13

“Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.” 2 Thess 3:6

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? — Mark 8:36

On the 21 st of January this year (2014) during his organisation’s annual “Minister’s Conference”, Kenneth Copeland, his “ministry”, and attendees received a personal video message from Pope Francis. Kenneth Copeland Ministries’ YouTube channel says, concerning the message, that everyone was “greatly inspired”[1] by it.

What was everyone inspired about? That Pope Francis called the protestant reformation the sin of disunity[2] and that he is looking forward to protestant’s repenting and coming back into the fold? Pope Francis didn’t make that statement in exactly those words, but this is what it boils down to, what it always boils down to with the Roman Catholic Church.

The Roman Catholic Church has always believed, and still believes, that it is the doorway to God and heaven, that the Pope is the Head of the Church, and that the Pope is the Vicar of Christ (rather than the Holy Spirit). Has the Roman Catholic Church repented of its doctrine of transubstantiation (i.e. bread and wine turning into the body and blood of Christ during the Mass)? No. Has the Roman Catholic Church repented of its heretical doctrine of purgatory (atoning in purgatory for your own sins, rather than Christ alone atoning for your sins)? No. … and then there is a host of other heretical, if not blasphemous teachings for which the Roman Catholic Church and their Pontiffs are responsible and of which they have never repented.

What did the reformers die for? Nothing according to the Pope, and apparently Kenneth Copeland agrees with him. The reformers said, “NO!” to the Popes of their day, “NO!” to the Roman Catholic Church, and “YES!” to God and His Word. The Reformation came about through the reading of the Bible (as opposed to it being hidden by being read in Latin when the common folk did not understand it). The Roman Catholic Church has always tried to hide, shroud and conceal the Word of God – Kenneth Copeland has merely joined their ranks.

Kenneth Copeland has gone from being a popular False Prophet, to being profitable for the counter-reformation movement of Rome. All this does is to further confirm that Kenneth Copeland is not only a false prophet, but a wolf in sheep’s clothing. A true prophet hears from and speaks the Word of God, which does not contradict Scripture. Where is spirit-led-Copeland headed? To the city on seven hills, to Rome, to the Vatican, to Spiritual Babylon.

And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness; and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality, and on her forehead a name was written, a mystery, “BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered greatly. — Revelation 17:3-6

Peter, in his first epistle (1 Peter 5:13), euphemistically called Rome (where he was at the time) Babylon. Peter knew it, the first-century Christians knew it, the reformers knew it, but the Profit Copeland doesn’t, or he doesn’t care.

There is more to say regarding Kenneth Copeland, Charismatics, Emergents and the Road to Rome … but we will bring you more in a future edition of CETF.

[2] Pope Francis’ message is irenic, and regarding Roman Catholic and Protestant disunity he said, “…it’s sin that has separated us, all our sins. The misunderstandings throughout history. It has been a long road of sins that we all shared in. Who is to blame? We all share the blame. We have all sinned. There is only one blameless, the Lord.” But, one must remember that many of the Protestant Reformers at the outset of the Reformation were ex-Roman Catholic priests. There was no “misunderstanding”; they knew full well what Rome taught and knew how Catholic doctrine and dogma corrupted the Word of God. And Rome knew full well why the Reformers left – and that is why Pope after Pope has pronounced anathemas against Protestants. All that is happening now is that the Devil is trying a different tact.

Heresy Preacher Priest Tony Palmer Dead After Urging Christians To Unite With Rome

| July 21, 2014 | 4 Comments

God appears to have relieved Tony Palmer of his command

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Revelation 18:4

Just months after Anglican priest and personal friend to Pope Francis Tony Palmer gave  a rousing performance urging Christians to place themselves under the authority of the Roman Catholic system, he appears to have died suddenly in a motorcycle accident.

Tony Palmer had said that he was a “prophet in the spirit of Elijah”, and that his mission was to unite the Christian evangelical church with the Roman Catholic system. He declared “Martin Luther’s protest to be over”, and said that it was time for “Christians to come home to Rome”.  Tony’s deluded vision of seeing Christians “coming home to Rome” will also die with him.

priest-tony-palmer-dead-motorcycle-accident-mysterious-circumstances

“Tony Palmer, the charismatic young preacher who enjoyed a friendship with Pope Francis, has apparently died in a motorcycle accident,” Kathy Schiffer reported on her Seasons of Grace blog. “Not a Catholic, Palmer was bishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches, a group that broke away from the Anglican Church and considered itself part of the Convergence Movement.”

SO WHEN IS THE POPE GOING TO GIVE AWAY THE WEALTH OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH TO FEED AND CLOTHE THE POOR?

Mark 10:21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”

popeWhy Did Copeland, Robison Meet With Pope Francis?

8:00AM EDT 7/7/2014 Rick Wiles
Pope Francis with evangelicals (Life Outreach)

Two prominent Fort Worth-based Christian ministers led a delegation of Evangelical Christian leaders to Rome to meet privately with Pope Francis.

James and Betty Robison, co-hosts of the Life Today television program, and Kenneth Copeland, co-host of Believer’s Voice of Victory, met the Roman Pontiff at the Vatican on Tuesday.  The meeting lasted almost three hours and included a private luncheon with Pope Francis.

Mr. Robison told the Fort Worth Star Telegram, “This meeting was a miracle…. This is something God has done. God wants his arms around the world. And he wants Christians to put his arms around the world by working together.”

Mr. Robison said he was impressed by Pope Francis’ humility and courtesy to the visiting delegation of Evangelical Protestant Christian leaders.

In a written statement, Mr. Robison said he believes “the prayers of earnest Christians helped lead to the choice of Pope Francis.”  He described Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the Argentine Archbishop chosen as Pope, as “a humble man…filled with such love for the poor, downtrodden…”

In addition to Mrs. Betty Robison, the high-profile Protestant delegation included Kenneth Copeland, co-founder of Kenneth Copeland Ministries in Newark, TX; Reverend Geoff Tunnicliff, CEO of the World Evangelical Alliance; Rev. Brian Stiller and Rev. Thomas Schirrmacher, also from the World Evangelical Alliance; and Rev. John Arnott and his wife, Carol, co-founders of Partners for Harvest ministries in Toronto, Canada.  Gloria Copeland did not travel to Rome because of a previously scheduled commitment.

The ecumenical meeting in Rome was organized by Episcopal Bishop Tony Palmer.  Rev. Palmer is an ordained bishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches, a break-away alliance of charismatic Anglican-Episcopal churches.  Bishop Palmer is also the Director of The Ark Community, an international interdenominational Convergent Church online community, and is a member of the Roman Catholic Ecumenical Delegation for Christian Unity and Reconciliation.

Bishop Palmer developed a friendship with Pope Francis when the future Roman Pontiff was a Catholic official in Argentina.  Prior to becoming a CEEC bishop, Rev. Palmer was the director of the Kenneth Copeland Ministries’ office in South Africa.  He is married to an Italian Roman Catholic woman.  He later moved to Italy and began working to reconcile Roman Catholics and Protestants.  Kenneth Copeland Ministries was one of Mr. Palmer’s first financial contributors over 10 years ago in support of his ecumenical work in Italy.

Earlier this year, Pope Francis called Bishop Palmer to invite him to his residence in Vatican City.  During the meeting, Bishop Palmer suggested that the Pope record a personal greeting on Mr. Palmer’s iPhone to be delivered to Kenneth Copeland.  Mr. Copeland showed the Papal video greeting to a conference of Protestant ministers who were meeting at Mr. Copeland’s Eagle Mountain International Church near Fort Worth, Texas.  In the video, Pope Francis expressed his desire for Christian unity with Protestants.

Later, James Robison telecasted the video on his daily TV program, Life Today.  “The pope, in the video, expressed a desire for Protestants and Catholics to become what Jesus prayed for — that Christians would become family and not be divided,” Mr. Robison said the response to the video was very positive, and that Pope Francis asked Bishop Palmer whether a meeting could be arranged with Evangelical Protestants seeking Christian unity in the world.

In his written statement released after the Papal meeting, Mr. Robison said he was “blessed to be part of perhaps an unprecedented moment between evangelicals and the Catholic Pope.”  He described the Protestant delegation’s private meeting with the leader of the Roman Catholic Church as “an intimate circle of prayerful discussion and lunch to discuss not only seeing Jesus’ prayer answered, but that every believer would become a bold, joy-filled witnesses for Christ.

In describing the ecumenical gathering as a miracle, Mr. Robison said, “This is something God has done. God wants his arms around the world. And he wants Christians to put his arms around the world by working together.”

During the luncheon on Tuesday, Mr. Robison got a high-five from Pope Francis after the Pope and Protestant guests talked about the need for all people to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  According to the Life Today host, the Roman Pontiff did not know what a high-five was until Bishop Palmer explained it to him in Italian.  Mr. Robison said, “The Pope made it very clear that he wanted every believer to become Spirit-filled, joy-filled witnesses.”

Mr. Robison said Pope Francis had written recently, “Too many Catholics look like they’ve been to Lent with no Easter. It’s a mistake for them to look like they’ve been to a funeral” as he challenged Catholics to witness and never try to control the Holy Spirit, but yield to Him.

Mr. Robison said he received a divine call from God to seek Christian unity while he was hospitalized several years ago with a serious staph infection following hip surgery.  Robison recalled, “[I] was so weak I could not lift a cup of water to my lips…God got my full attention…He spoke to me through Isaiah 58:6-12 and I saw the importance of living in freedom, touching the suffering, the hungry, poor, and downtrodden. I recognized the promise that our prayers would be answered quickly and we would become a free-flowing stream and a well-watered garden, restoring the foundations upon which we must build. During that time God instructed me to focus my attention on Jesus’ prayer and encouraging others to begin fulfilling it through us in our day.”

During that time, he said, he was impressed by a prayer of Jesus in John 17:21, pleading that all Christian believers be one.  “We’ve tried to focus on being an answer to Jesus’ prayer,” Robison said. “We want to see Jesus’ prayer for unity answered in our day.”

Aware that the meeting with the Pope will be troublesome among staunch Protestants, Mr. Robison said he and the other visiting Evangelical Christian leaders talked about diversity and their belief that Roman Catholics and Protestants could work together without compromising their beliefs.

“The world is suffering,” said Robison. “We as Christians have too much love to share without fighting one another.”

Mr. Robison said he and other “respected Evangelical leaders and Spirit-filled Catholics began meeting together to pray for God’s will to be done and to bring true believers together in supernatural unity….We have been commanded to love God with all of our heart and our neighbors as ourselves. The enemy has kept many Christians from loving one another as Christ loves us and have failed to recognize the importance of supernatural unity even with all of the unique diversity.”

Mr. Robison, whose ministry digs water wells and supplies food for impoverished people in third-world nations, recounted that he was christened as a fatherless boy in an Episcopal Church.  As an adult, he joined the Southern Baptist Church.  In the 1980s, he became one of the first prominent Southern Baptist ministers to openly proclaim he had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Pope Francis Meets With Kenneth Copeland, James Robison – High Fives Ensue

Pope Francis meets with Copeland and Robison
Televangelists including Kenneth Copeland and James Robison met with Pope Francis, resulting in the first ever papal “high-five.” (LIFE Outreach International, Kenneth Copeland Ministries)

What does it take to produce the first-ever papal high-five? A meeting with American televangelists, apparently.

The gesture came during a three-hour meeting of Pope Francis and Texas televangelists Kenneth Copeland and James Robison, just weeks after the pontiff met with televangelist Joel Osteen and other religious leaders. At the June 24 meeting, Robison said he was so moved by Pope Francis’ message of the gospel that he asked the translator to ask Francis for a high-five. The pope obliged, raised his arm and the two men smacked hands.

The televangelists are among some wealthier U.S. evangelicals who have recently met with Francis, who has called for a focus on the poor and a simple lifestyle for clergy. In March, the pope met with members of the Green family, the Oklahoma billionaires whose company, Hobby Lobby, won their challenge to President Obama’s contraception coverage mandate at the Supreme Court last week.

Robison said he was born into the Episcopal Church but didn’t have a “born-again” conversion until later in life, the kind of story he sees among many Protestants and Catholics. “There are a lot of evangelicals and Catholics who don’t know Christ,” he said.

In fact, Francis’ meeting may reflect a shift in emphasis within the papacy. His predecessor, Benedict XVI, regularly bemoaned the decline of Christianity in his native Germany and across Europe. In contrast, the Argentine Francis comes from a region where competition from Pentecostalism is one of the biggest challenges facing the Catholic Church, Peppard said.

As unusual as it might seem for a pope meet with celebrity Protestant preachers, the potential awkwardness goes both ways. While some praised Robison for going to Rome, others said Protestants and Catholics have too many differences, on issues that include the role of the Bible, saints, the status of the Virgin Mary and the nature of salvation. “Very disappointed in you James and Betty. Never forget the Inquisition — Never forget!” one commenter wrote on Robison’s website.

But Robison said he and Francis found common ground in caring for the poor.

“I don’t see him as presenting himself as infallible,” Robison said of Pope Francis. “He’s been to confession. He asks for prayer. He’s anxious to apologize on (behalf) of Catholic leadership.”

Osteen’s meeting with Francis on June 4 was part of a larger gathering coordinated by the International Foundation, also known as “the Fellowship.” Osteen was joined by Utah Sen. Mike Lee, a Mormon; California pastor Tim Timmons; and Gayle D. Beebe, president of evangelical Westmont College.

The June 24 meeting leaned particularly toward charismatic Christianity. Other guests were Anthony Palmer, a bishop and international ecumenical officer with the independent Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches; Geoff Tunnicliffe, the outgoing head of the Worldwide Evangelical Alliance; and John and Carol Arnott of Catch the Fire Toronto, which grew out of a Pentecostal revival 20 years ago.

The pope met with more than 50,000 Catholic charismatics in Rome last month, admitting he was not always comfortable with the way they prayed. Still, he knelt on stage as they prayed for him and spoke in tongues. “Where does division come from? The devil!” Francis told them. “Division comes from the devil. Flee from internal struggles, please!”

Pentecostal and charismatic Christians  – charismatics are often Pentecostals in other churches, including the Catholic Church — share much in common, such as speaking in tongues and healing. Together, they make up at least 584 million people in the world, about 9 percent of the global population and one in four Christians worldwide, according to the Pew Research Center.

And that’s probably partly why Francis extended the invitation to the U.S. pastors. The Rev. Wesley Granberg-Michaelson, a veteran of Catholic-Protestant ecumenical groups and the author of “From Times Square to Timbuktu: The Post-Christian West Meets the Non-Western Church,” said Pentecostalism is growing in the Global South at three times the rate of Catholic growth, especially among the poor.

“My guess is that Francis knows this community can’t be ignored,” Granberg-Michaelson said. “Certainly, Francis would want to encourage Catholic charismatics to feel at home, as well as build ecumenical relationships with the Pentecostal community — and those reinforce one another. That’s also why what he is doing is both ecumenically creative, and makes sense.”

A flawed “theology of suffering.

CATHOLICS ARE NOT TRUE CHRISTIANS AS THEY TEACH LIES. ” In Mother Teresa’s words: “The most beautiful gift for a person is that he can participate in the sufferings of Christ.” Therefore, the Catholic who suffers the most is closest to Christ. When you remove suffering, you remove Christ. Instead of minimizing their suffering, Mother Teresa ensured it. Alleviating suffering, let alone eliminating it, was out of the question. Seen from this perspective, her behavior toward her patients makes sense.

Instead of curing them, Mother Teresa gave the bare minimum of treatment, resulting in suffering for most and death for some. She gave insufficient or outdated medicine, reused old syringes, and gave cold baths to all patients, even those who could find comfort in a warm one. She’d refuse to install elevators for the disabled, even when the city government offered to pay for it. Instead of hiring competent doctors, she’d rely on incompetent volunteers because she believed strongly that ignorance was more valuable than expertise (Livemore 93, 156).

Instead of being true hospitals or hospices, the establishments run by Mother Teresa were more like prisons at best: The patients, if they were well enough to escape, probably would. At worst, they were torture chambers. She’d refuse to give painkillers even to dying patients who were suffering unbearable pain. Instead of using painkillers, she’d comfort patients by saying, “You are suffering, that means Jesus is kissing you.” One poor patient replied, “Then tell your Jesus to stop kissing me.”

Holy Hypocrite

What makes all this worse is the fact that Mother Teresa had the resources to make things better. Estimates of donations reach the millions — even billions — of dollars. Unfortunately, we can never be sure. In the same way that Mother Teresa’s atrocities remain a secret, Missionaries of Charity remains the only charitable organization in India that refuses to reveal how much money they have and how they spend it:

Mother Teresa: Blessed Billionaire, Holy Hypocrite

Mother Teresa did believe that the sufferings of her patients was meritorious for their eventual release from Purgatory. Back in 1996 Dave Hunt addressed the fraudulent claims about Mother Teresa. http://www.thebereancall.org/content/october-1996-q-and-a-1

DELIVERANCE IS FOR TODAY

AFDELIVERANCE IS FOR TODAY

Demonic oppression “is reality in other parts of the world,” Horrell says, “and I’m quite convinced it’s reality here. And there are probably many in our psych hospitals who are medicated to suppress what appear to be the outcroppings of possession, and the spiritual dimension is never addressed. It’s just never even looked at.”      THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS: explains why you’ll seldom hear mention of the demonic in American churches today. “Because we are rationalists, we are of the Enlightenment,” he says. One well-known Christian authority went so far as to tell Horrell, “I’ve never seen a demon possession that a pill could not cure.” But Horrell observed otherwise during 18 years of ministry and teaching  Larry concluded that deliverance was the answer—the expulsion of oppressive spiritual forces through commanding prayer. Demons, after all, were agents of Satan tasked with doing his dirty work until Jesus returned. If God had a good plan for that young man’s life, didn’t it stand to reason that the devil had an evil scheme to counter it?

YES, THE DEVIL KNOWS MORE ABOUT A PERSON THAN THEY DO OFTEN TIMES.  YES, HIS WHOLE EVIL SCHEME IS TO DISTRACT AND DESTROY GOD’S DIVINE PLAN, PURPOSE AND HIGH CALLING ON A PERSON’S LIFE!

GENERATIONAL CURSES ARE REAL OR VALID IN A CHRISTIAN’S LIFE.   Because these generational curses are so common, the Pollards ask clients to fill out detailed questionnaires that resemble a medical history—based on spiritual, emotional, and physical afflictions evident in the family line. They are grouped together in categories: fear and rejection, for example. Beneath that heading, one can check abandonment, loneliness, withdrawal, competitiveness, possessiveness, and many others; checking numerous boxes indicates a spiritual “stronghold” of fear and rejection. Other categories include lust/sex/idolatry, unforgiveness, and occult/divination. Larry scores the different categories, and a road map emerges for demonic intrusions in that individual and his family.

“So that stuff is carried on down the line,” Larry says, “and now it’s your turn to get born, and you’re handed this welcome package.” Many of the Pollards’ clients are Christians who got “stuck” in their faith. That “welcome package” has come back to bite them, and the energy and optimism of youth no longer outweigh the pile of spiritual and emotional crud they’ve acquired over the years.

HOW MANY CHRISTIANS WALK AROUND TODAY WITH THE VERY SAME ILLNESSES THAT MANY IN THEIR FAMILY TREE FROM GENERATIONS BEFORE THEM.  THEY JUST “ACCEPT” THEM AS HEREDITARY!!!  EVEN MEDICAL DOCTORS KNOW THIS TRUTH, THAT IS WHY THEY ASK US FOR OUR FAMILY’S MEDICAL HISTORY IN THEIR QUESTIONNAIRE BEFORE THEY EVER EVEN SEE U FOR THE FIRST TIME!!   NO, AS BLOOD BOUGHT CHRISTIANS OF JESUS CHRIST, WE DO NOT “ACCEPT” ANY CURSE.  BUT, WE MUST RENOUNCE AND REJECT EVERY CURSE IN FAITH AND BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS.  YES, JESUS WANT US HEALED, AND DELIVERED…..SET FREE.  YES, HE CAME TO SET THE CAPTIVE FREE INDEED.  BUT, WE MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE ARE CAPTIVES AND NO LONGER STUFF IT AND CARRY IT AROUND ALL OUR LIVES AND ASK JESUS TO BE SET FREE.  WE LIVE OUR LIVES IN CHAINS NEVER KNOWING WE HAVE THE KEY.  BUT, WE MUST USE THE KEY TO OPEN THE DOOR TO FREEDOM!!

“Oh,” Marion concluded, “we need to break those soul ties.”

Now, I’d heard this term tossed around in Christian circles, but no one had ever defined it. Marion explained the concept: we form righteous soul ties in certain relationships, such as the bond between a husband and wife, or a parent and child, or dear friends. Yet sometimes, because of the broken spaces in our souls, we form ties that veer into the demonic—say, in a sinful sexual relationship, or in a friendship that becomes controlling.

WOW!!  LOOK AT THAT?? IT CAN EVEN BE CLOSE FRIENDSHIP WITH “CONTROLLING PEEP”???  VERY INTERESTING??  THERE ARE MANY CONTROLLING PEEPS IN THE CHURCH CIRCLES IN 2014.

Marion offered to pray right then and there; I accepted. She prayed to break those bonds that weren’t right, at one point brandishing a Bible and tapping me on the wrists and upper chest, symbolizing the hands and heart. At the end of her prayer, she began singing in a high-pitched voice. I heard no discernible words; she called it “singing in the Spirit.”

SHE WAS PRAYING IN THE GIFT OF TONGUES….SINGING GOD’S PRAYERS OVER HIM!!  SWEET….  AMEN AND AMEN   PTL

Healings happen as unintended consequences of deliverance all the time, they say. They claim to have seen instances in which epilepsy and cancer have disappeared, among other conditions of body and soul.

MANY REJECT “THE HOLY SPIRIT” AS THEY DO NOT ACCEPT THAT THESE THINGS ARE REAL AND JESUS WANTS TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE INDEED. REMEMBER THE GUY AT THE TEMPLE WHEN JESUS WAS THERE AND JESUS JUST WALKED OVER AND CAST THE DEMON OUTTA THE GUY WITHOUT SKIPPING A BEAT AND THEN JUST KEPT ON WITH HIS TEACHING. IT WAS AN AUTOMATIC THING FOR JESUS AND THE DISCIPLES. SO, WHY IS IT THAT THE CHURCH IN 2014 THINKS THEY ARE SO HIGH AND MIGHTY AND THEY ABOVE DELIVERANCE???

IF IT IS WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR JESUS AND HIS DISCIPLES. IT IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR KAREN. NOT TO MENTION THE DEMONIC SINFUL WORLD WE LIVE IN 2014 DEMONS ARE RUNNING FREELY IN A LOT OF PEEPS AND FAMILIES????

YES, SO CALLED CHRISTIANS? YOU AND I KNOW MANY CHRISTIANS THAT KEEP FALLING INTO THE SAME DITCH ALL THEIR LIVES? THEY JUST STUFF EVERYTHING DOWN AND WALK AROUND LIKE EVERYTHING IS JUST FINE FINE FINE!

THE BOTTOM LINE, IS THAT JESUS “NEVER” LEAVES U THE SAME WAY HE FOUND YOU!!!! YES, U HAVE TO “MAKE ROOM FOR HIM AND THE HOLY SPIRIT”….. WHEN YOU ARE CONTROLLED BY DEMONS THEIR IS NO ROOM FOR JESUS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT TO DO GOD’S WILL FOR YOU.

ALSO, THEY NEED TO REJECT AND RENOUNCE THE DEMONS INSTEAD OF REJECTING AND GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT.

JUST LIKE MANY CHRISTIANS DO NOT UNDERSTAND AND REJECT THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND GOD’S SPIRITUAL GIFT OF SPEAKING IN TONGUES OR ALL THE REST OF GOD’S SPIRITUAL GIFTS. THEY DO THE SAME WITH DELIVERANCE.

THE DEVIL HAS CONVINCED CHRISTIANS THAT “NONE” OF THE ABOVE IS VALID OR NECESSARY ANYMORE???? WRONG…. WAY WRONG!!

JOEL OSTEEN IS NOT A TRUE MAN OF GOD

SO IF JOEL OSTEEN IS A TRUE MAN OF GOD, HOW COME GOD DOESN’T CONFIRM HIS WORD WITH MIRACLES SIGNS AND WONDERS LIKE HE DID FOR A LAYMAN STEPHEN?

ACTS 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.
6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.
8 And there was great joy in that city

SO WHERE ARE THE LAME AND PARALYZED HEALED IN LAKEWOOD RELIGIOUS MEETINGS? NONEXISTENT!.

True believers in Christ, Christians, walk in Holy Ghost power that gives proof of the resurrection. This is way more than quoting a bible scripture, teaching a nice Sunday school class or sharing with a friend at the coffee shop. Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do because I go unto my Father” (John 14:12).

Before a person can receive the benefits of salvation they need to know what belongs to them. This is confirmed in the scripture, “Faith cometh for by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). Once you know what belongs to you then all you need to do is receive it. That goes as much for deliverance from unclean spirits as it does for physical healing. The Apostle Paul wrote that he prayed for believers to come to the place where they knew what belonged to them in Christ. Today we could call those the benefits of salvation. He wrote,

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.” (Ephesians 1:17-22)

A REMNANT

Jesus made sure that his disciples were of use to the Kingdom, not just temple sitters like many church folk are doing today. Jesus knew that it wouldn’t be enough he made sure that His disciples had a more of a Kingdom experience than just having temple experience. Peter knew that from his training that Gods power (Anointing ) wasn’t limited just to the temple, for Peter said, Silver a…nd gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk Acts 3:6.

When church folk realize that they are a container for Gods glory ready to be released to bring healing and victory to those that have no hope. As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by Acts 5:15. The world wants church folk to stay in the ( Closet ) I mean the church and not come out, we must remember Jesus said to. Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled Luke 14:23.

But God has a remnant that is heading Gods call that have been equipped to demonstrate the power of the Holy Spirit, and not making excuse, but moving boldly in all that God has called them to do and getting kingdom results

EAR TICKLING

OHFALSE PREACHERS LIKE JOEL OSTEEN NEVER PREACH ON GOD’S WRATH ON THE UNRIGHTEOUS UNLESS THEY REPENT?

ROMANS 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man — and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,
25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,
30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;
32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

5 Signs of Ear-Tickling Preachers

9:00AM EDT 6/9/2014 Michael Brown

Paul warned Timothy that the “time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths” (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

That warning proved true in Timothy’s day, and it has proved true many times since, especially today, when we have a multitude of ear-tickling preachers. How can we recognize them?

We know that deception is very deceiving and that no one is willingly duped. And we know that no one stands up and says, “What I’m teaching is false doctrine meant to deceive and destroy you!”

We also know that it is arrogant for any one of us to think that we alone have sound doctrine while everyone else is in error.

Yet Paul did not warn Timothy in vain, nor is he warning us in vain, and so we must ask ourselves what, exactly, are the distinguishing characteristics of ear-tickling preachers.

1. Ear-tickling preachers bypass self-denial and the cross. Jesus told His disciples that if anyone wanted to follow Him, they had to deny themselves and take up the cross (see Matthew 16:24; Mark 8:34; in Luke 9:23 He says we must take up our cross daily). And Paul taught that “those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” (Galatians 5:24).

Saying no to self and taking up the cross—meaning, giving up the claim to our own lives, dying to this sinful world and renouncing its claims—is a fundamental part of discipleship. Yet ear-tickling preachers will not talk about it.

The reason is obvious: It is not what our flesh wants to hear.

2. Ear-ticking preachers go light on sin. Throughout the Scriptures, both Old Testament and New Testament, including the Gospels, Acts, the Letters, and Revelation, there are warnings about the dangers of sin and calls to turn away from sin.

Of course, it is absolutely true that through the death and resurrection of Jesus and by the power of the Spirit we have been given victory over sin. And it is absolutely true that the message of grace, rightly understood, turns us away from sin (see Titus 2:11-14).

But that doesn’t mean that as leaders, we no longer need to warn our hearers about the deceitfulness of sin or urge them to vigilant against sin. To the contrary, because so much grace has been given to us, our responsibility before God is even greater (see Hebrew 2:1-4; 10:26-31; 12:25-29).

3. Ear-tickling preachers are loved by the world. In 2 Timothy 3, Paul recounted the persecutions and suffering he endured for the gospel—they were frequent and intense—and then said, “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Tim. 3:12-13).

Jesus said that the world would treat us the way it treated Him (John 15:18; Mat. 10:24-25) and that His disciples, like the prophets of old, would be persecuted for righteousness sake (Matthew 5:10-12).

“If you were of the world,” He said, “the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you” (John 15:19).

But the world doesn’t hate ear-tickling preachers because they are “of the world” in their approach to the gospel.

It is one thing to have a good reputation for integrity and purity and to live out what we preach. It is another thing when our message does not offend sinners. As Jesus warned, “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets” (Luke 6:26).

4. Ear-tickling preachers tell the flesh what it wants to hear. The Old Testament prophets had to deal with this all the time. As Isaiah wrote long ago, “For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the LORD; who say to the seers, ‘Do not see,’ and to the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions, leave the way, turn aside from the path, let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel'” (Isaiah 30:9-11).

In other words, “Don’t make us uncomfortable, preacher! Don’t make us squirm! Stop confronting us with the standards of a holy God!”

A friend recently shared with me that he learned that the owner of a local strip club was attending the same church that he and his family attended.

His sister-in-law approached the pastor and asked him about it, and the pastor said, “At least he’s coming to church. That’s better than not coming at all.”

That would be true, except that the pastor never said a word about sin and never said anything that would make the man uncomfortable about his exploitation of young women (and others). And so rather than this man getting convicted of his sins and discovering the life-changing love of God, he went home deceived.

Ultimately, my friend and his family had to leave.

5. Ear-tickling preachers get away from the Word and give way to myths. They may use a verse or two in their preaching, but their sermons are driven by their own worldly ideology—especially if it sells—rather than by the content of the Word.

Some even get into the realm of complete fantasy, preaching alleged heavenly or angelic revelations that titillate the ears of the pseudo-spiritual but do not exalt Jesus, do not turn people away from sin, and do not produce lasting spiritual fruit.

I personally believe there are preachers today who genuinely know the Lord but have bought into a lie about the nature of the gospel, and while they think they are helping people, they are really hurting them in the long run.

May God grant these men and women repentance—especially those who actually are charlatans and deceivers—and may God give us discernment, repentance, and a love for the truth, regardless of cost or consequence.

YEAR IN REVIEW: Mike Bickle: What’s Wrong With Grace?

3:00PM EDT 4/2/2013 Mike Bickle

Mike Bickle explains how the grace of God has been distorted. (istockphoto.com/Amphotora Golfladi)

Editor’s Note: 2013 was a big year in the church—and in the world. This week we’re looking at some of the biggest stories of the year, selected based on feedback from our readers. Thanks for reading Charisma News this year and stay tuned as we continue expanding our coverage in 2014 to include more spiritual insights on the stories that matter most to you.

The most powerful, significant and liberating message ever given to the human race is the gospel of grace. The Christian life is established on the foundation of this wonderful truth, which emphasizes what Christ did for us on the cross and what the Holy Spirit does in us in our daily life. Paul’s dramatic declaration that we have become new creations in Christ has vast implications for our lives: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away … all things have become new … that we [our spirit] might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor. 5:17-21).

The “he” that is a new creation is our spirit man. We possess the very righteousness of God in our spirit (v. 21). This describes our new legal position in Christ—how God sees and relates to us. In Christ, all things have become new pertaining to our spirit. This includes being fully accepted by God, receiving the authority to use the name of Jesus and possessing the indwelling Holy Spirit—all of which enable us to resist sin, sickness and Satan; to walk in victory; and to release the works of God through prayer. The old things that passed away under this legal shift include no longer being under the penalty of sin nor being dominated by the power of sin.

So what’s the problem if we’ve been given such freedom as new creations? Unfortunately, man’s natural tendency to distort truth gets in the way. And when it comes to a truth as fundamental and crucial as grace, that distortion has far-reaching implications. In short, it can become the central crisis of an entire generation.

The Crisis of Our Time

The apostle Jude confronted the great spiritual crisis of his day when he exhorted believers to contend earnestly for the “faith” or for the message of grace originally delivered to them through the first apostles. In Jude 3-4, he writes: “I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed … ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness.”

Think about this: Within one generation after Jesus’ resurrection, it was already necessary to contend for the true grace message. That’s how key this battle over the true grace message is and always has been since Jesus’ definitive work on the cross.

Jude warned of certain men who crept into the fellowship of the church unnoticed—that is, their error went unnoticed by most of the leaders and the people. These men turned the message of grace into a message of lewdness or one that affirmed various compromises, even sexual immorality. These men with persuasive teaching abilities twisted what the Bible said about grace, thus empowering many to confidently continue in sinful activities without feeling any urgency to repent.

Undoubtedly, these teachers of error appeared outwardly to live godly, but in their private lives they refused to repent of various lusts. Instead, they justified their ungodly habits by distorting the message of grace to accommodate their lifestyles.

The result was devastating, as many in the church concluded that it was acceptable for them also to live with similar compromises because these popular teachers were justifying this sort of lifestyle with various Bible verses. In reality, they took these verses out of context of the broader New Testament message, which called believers to live in wholehearted love for Jesus as evidenced by seeking to live in obedience to Him (John 14:15, 21).

The same is true with hyper-grace teachers today. They choose to emphasize only God’s love and forgiveness while practically ignoring Jesus’ call for His people to walk in wholehearted commitment to the Lord. They preach mostly on forgiveness without repentance and on receiving God’s blessing on their circumstances without any conditions. The truth is, it’s glorious that we are freely forgiven by Jesus and that He blesses our circumstances; but these truths are in context to seeking to live in a real relationship with Him and in agreement with His leadership and Word.

Jude’s exhortation is a significant warning for the body of Christ today. When the grace message is distorted, everything else in one’s spiritual life becomes blurred. In fact, there is no spiritual battle more significant in the church today than contending to keep the grace message faithful to Scripture.

Sadly, some believers aren’t even aware of this spiritual crisis regarding a diluted grace message. They must wake up to the emergency at hand—because today, as we contend for the spirit of truth, we are fighting for the very soul of a generation.

It’s easier in today’s world for teachers to creep in unnoticed, as Jude said, because of television and the Internet. Some contemporary teachers distorting the message of grace come from high-profile ministries whose very popularity gives them a false sense of credibility. We must not receive a ministry because it’s attractive and popular; we should only receive it if it’s faithful to the truth.

Paul prophesied of a time when many who profess loyalty to Jesus would fall to unsound doctrine: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables” (2 Tim. 4:3-4).

These people aren’t willing to embrace the challenges of a lifestyle of obedience to Jesus as emphasized by the sound teaching in the New Testament. Instead, they have “itching ears” to hear messages that affirm their sinful desires. They want to feel comfortable in their relationship with God, even as they continue to boldly walk out their sinful lusts.

By isolating Bible verses about God’s blessing and forgiveness from the larger context of the New Testament’s call to love Jesus with obedience, they affirm the lustful desires of their hearers. One famous TV preacher went so far to say that there is no longer a need for a believer to repent because Jesus’ work on the cross did that for them. He obviously overlooked the fact that Jesus repeatedly called born-again believers to repent for yielding to various compromises (see Rev. 2:5, 16, 21-22; 3:3, 19).

Grace: The Power to Love and Obey Jesus

If countless sincere believers have already succumbed to the rising tide of this distorted grace message, how can we stand strong through the crisis? It starts by remaining grounded in biblical truth. We must approach the biblical grace message through the lens of God calling us to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30).

The Lord wants us to love Him in a wholehearted way because that’s how He loves us—with all of His heart, mind and strength. This mutual relationship of wholehearted love between a believer and the Lord is foundational to the kingdom. In fact, this is the very way that the Father loves the Son—with all of His heart. The Son loves the Father and the Spirit loves the Father and Son in this way too. Oh, the glorious mystery of one God in three persons who delight in Their relationship of wholehearted love for each other (see John 3:35; 5:20; 14:31; 15:9; 17:23, 26)! God’s plan from the foundation of the earth was to redeem people so that they could participate in this loving fellowship that the three persons of the Trinity enjoy.

The core reality of the grace message is to empower us to walk with God in a relationship of wholehearted love. Jesus called this “the first commandment” (Mark 12:30). Thus, the Holy Spirit’s first agenda is to establish the first commandment in first place in the church. This must also be our first agenda. Wholehearted love is to be “first” in our response to God because it is how the Father relates to the Son and how the Godhead relates to us. We must see grace through the lens of this quality of love. To think of grace without it being anchored in the first commandment is to be aiming at the wrong target. Thus, we distort the grace message when we do not interpret it through the lens of the first commandment. We must love Jesus on His terms, and He defined loving God in terms of a spirit of obedience to His commandments (see John 14:15, 21, 23).

There’s no such thing as loving Jesus without seeking to obey His Word. Some seek to love God on the terms of a humanistic culture that has no reference to obeying the Word. But loving and seeking to obey Jesus are synonymous. All of His commands are based in His love. Thus, the biblical message of grace teaches us to live righteously and to deny ungodliness as the way of expressing our love to God. Titus 2:11-12 says, “The grace of God … has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly.”

If you hear a teaching on grace that doesn’t call you to deny ungodliness, it’s not a biblical grace message—it’s a distorted one.

Legal Position vs. Living Condition

As we correctly view the grace message through the lens of the first commandment, we can also begin to understand the difference between our legal position before God and our ongoing living condition as a response to what Jesus has done. Not only is there a key difference between these two, it’s often the element that hyper-grace adherents conveniently overlook.

Our legal position is what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross, while our living condition is what Jesus requires of us in our response to Him. In our legal position, we stand before God by possessing His righteousness (2 Cor. 5:21). Our legal standing before God is so glorious that it will never be improved upon—not even with the perfection of a resurrected body—because we received Christ’s very own righteousness. Our legal position relates to receiving His righteousness instantly on the day that we are born again.

Our living condition, on the other hand, relates to growing in righteousness progressively as our mind is renewed, causing our behavior and emotions to be transformed by the Holy Spirit in us.

The gospel is the good news about receiving God’s righteousness and can be seen in three tenses:

Justification: our legal position—past tense, focused on our spirit

Sanctification: our living condition—present tense, focused on our soul

Glorification: our eternal exaltation—future tense, focused on our body

One-third of our salvation is complete (the salvation of our spirit), but the other two parts are not yet complete in our experience (the salvation of our soul and body). All believers have received the fullness of grace in their spirit (legal position), and yet they can still live far below it in their daily experience (living condition).

Much misunderstanding about grace can be traced to misunderstanding the distinctions of these truths. Many confuse what Jesus did for us in our legal position with what He requires of us in our response to Him in our living condition.

Jesus’ finished work on the cross makes His grace fully available to us as a gift. However, our regular interaction with the Spirit causes us to experience the transforming power of this grace in our daily life. James wrote about this when he urged believers to walk in a greater measure of grace because God “gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

James wrote this to born-again believers, calling them to receive more grace. A believer already has the gift of righteousness and therefore can’t receive “more grace” in his or her legal position. However, each of us can receive “more grace” in our living condition—and this is what James was referring to. We can always experience more of God’s grace to transform and renew our mind and emotions (see Rom. 12:2).

Grace in the Eight Beatitudes

If we hope to experience more of this transforming grace on a daily basis, then we must follow the words of the greatest teacher on grace who ever walked the earth: Jesus. The Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) is His most comprehensive statement about a believer’s role in cooperating with God’s grace. In this teaching, Jesus defined loving God in context to the eight beatitudes (5:3-10), offering us a rich understanding of how to walk out biblical grace in our daily lives.

One aspect of this is Jesus’ exhortation to us to hunger for more of God’s righteousness (v. 6). Here, Jesus affirmed the need to press into God for a greater release of righteousness in our daily lives—our living condition. Keep in mind that He wasn’t calling us to receive more of the gift of righteousness, since we already fully possess this in our legal position. Our hunger for righteousness doesn’t cause us to deserve grace—nothing can do that—but hunger positions us to receive more of the outworking of righteousness in our character.

Some believers don’t hunger to grow in righteousness in their daily life. Rather, they seek to know how far they can go in sin and how little they need to talk with Jesus to keep their salvation intact.

Imagine a couple in their wedding ceremony who have just completed their vows. While walking down the aisle for the first time as “one,” the man whispers to his new bride, “How far can I go with other women before we get divorced? And how much do I have to talk to you each week?” Adding insult to injury, he then says, “By the way, we just signed a marriage license that legalized our marriage—so now I have legal rights to all that you possess.”

Of course, the new bride would be heartbroken to hear that her husband didn’t love her with all of his heart but was instead establishing their marriage on a faulty foundation—and focusing almost entirely on the bare-minimum “requirements” and legal ramifications involved.

Some teach about grace in a way that parallels the lack of wholeheartedness portrayed in this analogy. It’s a version of grace more concerned with what it takes to “meet the requirements” on paper than to engage in the authentic, loving relationship for which it was originally intended. Sadly, this error is bound to occur whenever people separate the grace message from the first commandment.

How to Receive God’s Grace

Grace was never intended to be abused, but as our current church crisis proves, it can be. God gives us the freedom to choose relationship and obedience to His Word—and thus benefit from the true liberty found in grace. Yet this is also why Paul urged the believers in Corinth “not to receive the grace of God in vain” (2 Cor. 6:1).

The gospel of grace is distorted in two main ways: first, by presenting God’s love as something we can earn; second, by refusing to call people to respond in wholeheartedness to God. The fruit of the biblical grace message is confidence in the gift of God’s love combined with a spirit of obedience. If either of these two elements is missing, then it isn’t the true message. Thus, receiving God’s grace in vain is to receive it in such a way that it doesn’t produce confidence in God’s love nor the resolve to respond wholeheartedly to Jesus’ leadership. Either distortion is disastrous for our spiritual life.

Like Jude in the first century, we must earnestly contend for the truth about grace. The very soul of the youth in our nation hangs in the balance.

The good news, however, is this: The Holy Spirit is highlighting this spiritual crisis and is committed to the recovery of the biblical grace message. We can be confident that He will release His power to establish the first commandment in first place in the church before Jesus returns for His fully prepared Bride (see Rev. 19:7). Let’s come alongside Him, rather than opposing Him, when it comes to receiving, understanding and walking in grace.

MIKE BICKLES IHOP IS A CULT

Darren,

What really breaks my heart is the young people (18-30) who start out on fire for God and get really caught up in all this stuff. In 1999 I was asked by some friends of mine to go with them to Kansas City and help with the setup of the “internship program” and be on Staff. At that time I was “older” then most of the kids, had been in ministry and was considered an example of a Godly intercessor.

I lasted about 4 months, but I was stranded in Kansas City for 2 and a half years. I lasted 4 months because I asked too many questions. These kids were (still are as far as I know) being told that they were “prayer missionaries”. They were expected to work for the ministry 40 hours a week, pray in IHOP 40 hours a week AND attend Grace Bible college and do all the homework required. They were also told they had to raise their own support and they told they could not work outside the ministry.

I was also present in an orientation meeting when the “newbies” were told that it would be better for them to have no contact with old friends or family as they were being trained in a “new way of thinking” outsiders (exact word) would not understand.

When I questioned these and many other practices, first I the people around me stopped talking to me. A week later I was called into a meeting and told “we are not sure you fit in with us here”. I was then told not to come to the prayer house or talk to the interns. 2 things I continued to do until the day I left Kansas City!!

I was sharing a flat in a complex where almost everyone renting there was part of IHOP. Mz flat mates were the directors of the internship program. The flat was directly across the street from where the prayer house was then.

The people I was sharing a flat with were told to take my keys and throw me out. Fortunately, the lease was in my name and when they tried to do that I contacted the Landlord and called the police. I think they were a little shocked that I did not just bow down. After 2 weeks of wrangling where I was forceably locked in my room, physically threatened, coerced and all 4 of my car tires slashed and my car vandalized the complex manager gave me an flat rent free for 3 months. I found a job and was able to start paying rent the second month.

After I started working I started getting threatening phone calls at home and at work. I had made the mistake of calling my former flat mates about something from work, so they gave my work number all around. The calls were traced back to IHOPs offices at Metro Church and charges of stalking and harrassing phone calls were brought. That stopped the phone calls, but it did not stop some of the leaders from sitting or standing outside my building door and shouting and screaming at me if they saw me. One “worship leader” from IHOP even threw water on me from his balcony 2 floors above in same building.

Now I suppose you wonder why I stayed. Well, first of all I did not have the money to leave. I spent all my money getting there, getting set up, buying a car, etc. The other reason was the kids. Almost every week another poor kid would show up who had spent all their money to get there, on fire for God, wanting to “DO SOMETHING FOR GOD” and the first time they spoke out or asked a question or spoke their mind they were told they did not fit and were thrown out. Since they had cut all ties with home after they got their they did not know what to do. Usually I found them tired, exhausted and fed up sitting in a local coffee shop or McDonalds down the street. There was always the old trick of the “IHOP” leadership” telling flat mates they could just chuck their things out and demand their keys. I was usually the one who told them that was not true and I made lots of enemies at IHOP for telling these kids the truth. A couple of them had no idea what they could do and were sleeping on the streets. There are hard cold realities for those who do not fit in at IHOP. I spent hours counseling these “kids” (usually 18-25) and helping them reconnect with their families and get home.

Since leaving IHOP and ministering in other parts of the world with my husband, I have come across other poor souls who have fallen into the IHOP trap and had to be rescued by friends and family.

I still consider myself a prayer warrior and I have seen God do some amazing things. I do not want to cheapen the real thing by focusing on the false teachings and ideas that are out there, but I think the truth needs to be told.

NOw ask me about the Kansas City (Smithton)revival… ;=)

Blessings,

Ann

Smith/Kansas City Revival

Oh dear so much has been said about the Smith/Kansas City revival. There were whole websites dedicated to its abuse and heresies. So I think I will do it like this.

THINGS I LEARNED FROM THE SMITHTON REVIVAL

1. If you see a good show somewhere else, there is no reason you can not recreate it in your church. Steve Gray said “I went to Brownsville and I can DO that too”.

2. No one is indespensible. It does not matter if its your mother, father, brother, sister, sister-in-law or even your children. If they get in the way of the show, they gotta go.

3. A handpicked audience is always better. Steve and Kathy made sure only the most gullible, agreeable, easily manipulated were in the front for the world to see.

4. If your 2 year old can not stand in the same spot with their hands in the air for 3 to 4 hours of worshiping God then beat them until they learn to submit. This was actually in the “Revival Handbook” until it was turned over to Childrens Protective Services. I saw this first hand in the ladies bathroom where the little demons were brought to be beaten before going back to “worship”. I personally reported 2 parents to child services.

5. Never let people know where the money really goes. this was always true of the Grays. The truth is the money always went to them, not the ministry because THEY WERE THE MINISTRY. that is why they could leave Smithton, sell the building, run away and never look back (see Smithton Revival: Revival’s Relocation Pits Pastor Against Alienated Followers http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2001/october1/14.18.html)

6. If they wont give you money, dont give them anything either. We were in a tent for 2 years. In the winter in the freezing cold and in the summer in the blazing heat. Steve figured that it would help people give more to build a building quicker. When they did build a building it was much different then what was promised and much less was spent then what was actually raised for the building.

7. Make promises you know you will not keep. This was always happening. If people had a problem, a promise was made to fix it on the spot, but it never happened. You know of course that you can not really questions “Gods Elect” so they could never be called liars.

Oh my there is so much I learned at World Revival Church. This should do for a start 🙂

Ann

IT’S MY OPINION

THE PROBLEM IS BOTH HYPER-GRACE PREACHERS AND THIRD WAVE PREACHERS HAVE NO INTEGRITY AND ARE OFF THE WALL. THEY ARE NOT FULL OF FAITH, POWER AND THE HOLY SPIRIT BUT ARE FULL OF THEMSELVES!

While it true some believers don’t hunger to grow in righteousness in their daily life. Rather, they seek to know how far they can go in sin and how little they need to talk with Jesus to keep their salvation intact. It is also true that these so called believers are not really Christians but deceived ones otherwise the would live and walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh and operate in all the gifts of the Spirit.

Unfortunately it’s a sad fact that most Christian leaders don’t operate in all the gifts of the Spirit and are not full of faith, power and the Holy Spirit like Stephen the layman was:

Acts 6:
5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch,

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people

REBUKE

AGWHEN WAS THE LAST TIME SO CALLED MEN OF GOD JOEL OSTEEN OR JOSEPH REBUKED ANYBODY SPECIFICALLY?

Mark 16:14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.

1 Timothy 5: 20 Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Titus 1:13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,

Titus 2:15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

GOD PLUS ONE IS A MAJORITY

Isaiah 51:1 “Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, You who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were hewn, And to the hole of the pit from which you were dug.
2 Look to Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you; For I called him alone, And blessed him and increased him.”
3 For the LORD will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the LORD; Joy and gladness will be found in it, Thanksgiving and the voice of melody.
4 ” Listen to Me, My people; And give ear to Me, O My nation: For law will proceed from Me, And I will make My justice rest As a light of the peoples.
5 My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth, And My arms will judge the peoples; The coastlands will wait upon Me, And on My arm they will trust.
6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, And look on the earth beneath. For the heavens will vanish away like smoke, The earth will grow old like a garment, And those who dwell in it will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not be abolished.
7 ” Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, You people in whose heart is My law: Do not fear the reproach of men, Nor be afraid of their insults.
8 For the moth will eat them up like a garment, And the worm will eat them like wool; But My righteousness will be forever, And My salvation from generation to generation.”
9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD! Awake as in the ancient days, In the generations of old. Are You not the arm that cut Rahab apart, And wounded the serpent?
10 Are You not the One who dried up the sea, The waters of the great deep; That made the depths of the sea a road For the redeemed to cross over?
11 So the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness; Sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
12 ” I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid Of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass?
13 And you forget the LORD your Maker, Who stretched out the heavens And laid the foundations of the earth; You have feared continually every day Because of the fury of the oppressor, When he has prepared to destroy. And where is the fury of the oppressor?
14 The captive exile hastens, that he may be loosed, That he should not die in the pit, And that his bread should not fail.
15 But I am the LORD your God, Who divided the sea whose waves roared — The LORD of hosts is His name.
16 And I have put My words in your mouth; I have covered you with the shadow of My hand, That I may plant the heavens, Lay the foundations of the earth, And say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’

DO NOT TRUST IN LYING WORDS

Jeremiah 7: 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2 “Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, all you of Judah who enter in at these gates to worship the LORD!’ ”
3 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.
4 Do not trust in these lying words, saying, ‘The temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD are these.’
5 “For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor,
6 if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, or walk after other gods to your hurt,
7 then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.
8 “Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit.
9 Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know,
10 and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered to do all these abominations’?
11 Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” says the LORD.
12 “But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I set My name at the first, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.
13 And now, because you have done all these works,” says the LORD, “and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I called you, but you did not answer,
14 therefore I will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
15 And I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brethren — the whole posterity of Ephraim.
16 “Therefore do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, nor make intercession to Me; for I will not hear you.
