THE LAUGHTER MOVEMENT

RODNEY HOWARD BROWNE-THE FOUNDER AND ORIGINATOR OF THE LAUGHTER MOVEMENT  

My earliest exposure to the Laughter Movement was in the latter part of 1994 when I read a feature article on Rodney Howard Browne in Stephen Strang’s Charisma Magazine. The so called “outbreaks of revivals” drew my interest and attention but the manifestation of Laughter in these meetings sounded unscriptural to me. So I put the matter off my mind for a season, so to say. My interest was rekindled some time later when there was a local outbreak of laughter among people I personally knew but again I shrugged it off as perhaps something “of the flesh” and something having no spiritual significance. Then one fine day it dawned upon me that a thing of the flesh cannot possibly spread from Toronto to the United Kingdom and to Australia and New Zealand and even to our shores here in such a short period of time. Certainly there could not have been that many actors and actresses acting out their parts in so many cities of the world at the same time! Since then the burden in my heart has been to delve into the root of this phenomenon using God’s Word as my spiritual lamp. The notes appended below and following are the result of months of critical analysis and research through the Bible, books, magazines, articles downloaded from the Internet, videos of Rodney Howard Browne, personal observation and testimonies from many different sources.

The basis of our Christian Faith is in the person of Jesus Christ. We are christians because we believe what the Lord says in the Bible. So likewise we have to know something about the founder of the Laughter Movement and the kind of things he says so that we can decide whether to put our faith in him or not. Who then is Rodney Howard-Browne and what are the things he says?

“In July of 1979, at eighteen years of age, Rodney M. Howard-Browne of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, reached a crossroads in his life……. while at an interdenominational prayer meeting with about eighteen young people at this time, he cried out to the Lord, `God, either you come down here tonight and touch me, or I’m going to die and come up there and touch you.’ He began shouting, frightening nearly everyone who was present. He shouted for twenty minutes……”(1)

Now the first thing to note is that Rodney Howard-Browne reached a crossroad in his life. There is nothing wrong with a crossroad provided you take the right turning. A wrong spiritual turning could be disastrous!

If you analyse Rodney’s prayer carefully you will notice the following points:

*THIS PRAYER SAYS LET MY WILL BE DONE INSTEAD OF LET THY WILL BE DONE

*THIS PRAYER VIOLATES THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD.
God’s Word says that we can only receive what is given [to us] from above. In the spiritual realm, God initiates sovereignly; our duty is to align ourselves to His Will and purpose.
John 3:27
27 To this John replied, “A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. (NIV)

*THIS PRAYER IS NOT HEARD BECAUSE GOD ONLY HEARS PRAYER THAT IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH HIS WILL……
I Jn 5:14
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (NIV )

Notice that Rodney Howard Browne threatened to commit suicide if his demand was not met.

When we try to arm-twist or demand something from God, we are in essence asking for something OUT OF HIS WILL. So according to the above Scripture, when we ask out of HIS WILL, God does not hear us. On the other hand, someone else will hear and answer us. We must be aware that there are other spiritual forces at work in this universe.

“In a 1994 interview on TBN with Paul Crouch, Rodney Howard-Browne said…..while he was preaching…. `People began to fall out of their seats…rolling on the floor. The air was moving. People began to laugh uncontrollably while there wasn’t anything funny…..”(2)

So began the so-called Laughter Revival in the United States. Now if you look carefully at Figure No.1 you will notice that this “laughter anointing” passed down from Rodney Howard-Browne to Randy Clark (who apparently came close to a nervous breakdown in 1993) and from Randy Clark the “anointing” passed downwards again to John Arnott, the present pastor of the Toronto Airport Vineyard Church. John’s church was apparently in a “hospital mode”, (presumably spiritually sick), before the outpouring of the Laughter anointing. Later, John himself described this anointing as `highly contagious and transferable.”(3) The services in this church are reputed to have gone on for six nights a week since January 1994. From Toronto, this Laughter Movement has spread to many parts of the world. The ultimate source of the Laughter Movement therefore is still Rodney Howard-Browne.

Now let us analyse some of the things Rodney Howard-Browne says and whether his sayings have any Scriptural validity. The sayings of Rodney Howard-Browne (in italics) below are compared with Scriptures which are in bold.

As you can see from the above, the sayings of Rodney Howard-Browne are contrary to the teachings of the Bible. Are you going to believe Rodney Howard-Browne or are you going to believe the Inspired Word of God?

Nelson’s Bible Dictionary defines a prophet as follows….

PROPHET
A person who spoke for God and who communicated God’s message courageously to God’s Chosen People– the nation of Israel. Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Copyright (C) 1986, Thomas Nelson Publishers

A prophet is one who speaks God’s Word. A false prophet is one who speaks God’s Word falsely. He distorts the truth of God’s Word. He also claims false revelation from God which is opposed to the Word of God. The verses below from Matthew Chapter 24 was spoken by Jesus to his disciples.

Matt 24:3-4
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. (NIV)

The disciples were believers. So, in essence, Jesus is warning the christians today to be careful `not to be deceived’. There is no point in warning the non-christians as they are already in a state of deception……

2 Cor 4:4
4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (NIV)

False Prophets operate through the process of deception. They lead christians into error (by distorting and twisting the Word of God). If it were possible, these false prophets would also deceive God’s Elect by performing lying signs and wonders [and claiming these to be from the Holy Spirit]…..

Matt 24:11
11 And many FALSE PROPHETS will rise up and DECEIVE and LEAD MANY INTO ERROR. (AMPLIFIED BIBLE-EMPHASIS MINE)

24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect– if that were possible. (NIV)

Remember that they will come IN HIS NAME and therefore mas-querade as “christian” ministers….

RODNEY HOWARD BROWNE who is accountable to no one but himself not only practices nepotism but has had members of his family on the payroll of his nonprofit institution! In theory Browne came to America from South Africa to “revive” a largely sleeping church. He quickly got labeled as a Holy Ghost “bartender” because of the manifestations of “holy laughter” dominating his ministry. In his meetings he taught that no only it was the pastor’s job to fleece the sheep but only God was to judge pastors, not the (dumb) sheep! He also taught that thieves were to be blessed and rewarded, not judged for this is what Jesus would want them to do! He also taught that it was more important to give than to receive and spend a lot of time receiving offerings that he spent on himself and family members. Rodney learned about nepotism from his good friend Senior Pastor Karl Strader of Carpenter’s Home Church, Lakeland, Florida, for the bible stated:

Christmas morning, Dec 25, 2002, changed the lives of Dr’s Rodney and Adonica Howard-Browne forever. It was early hours of that morning, that Kelly, their 18 year old daughter, passed away in his arms. She had suffered from the incurable disease, Cystic Fibrosis for 18 years.

As she passed away, Rodney and Adonica offered up to Jesus the best gift they had to offer, their daughter. Rodney then vowed, that because the devil had taken their daughter with this dreaded disease, he would pay with 100 million souls over the next 10 years.

What’s going on in there?

Satan’s goal is for deception, the leaven of apostasy, and the destruction of God’s work!

Is this laughter movement of God, or are the devils laughing the hardest of all?

Jesus is the TRUTH personified (John 14:6); the Devil is the LIE personified. (John 8:44).

Are you following the TRUTH or the LIE?

“Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven…the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees” (Mat. 16:6,12). “Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?” (1 Cor. 5:6). Should we identify with the Charismatic and Ecumenical movements? Are the great changes sweeping through churches in the twentieth century in keeping with God’s Word?

The honest Charismatic Christians believe the sign-gifts are valid for today and have true motives and efforts to follow Scripture. These ones are trying to be faithful to God in prayer, bringing God praise, evangelism, a stand for justification by grace through faith, and some have an expository pulpit message. Charismatic pastors include those who are very concerned about apostasy and the bizarre phenomenon appearing in the churches.

Other Charismatics openly follow experiences that oppose Scripture. Once this standard is adopted in preference to the Word of God, the depraved imaginations of man or devil arise to the occasion. LYING leaders are deplorable anywhere! They include the cheap politicians and the corrupt preachers.
What Kind of Leaders?

The television audience, flicking past the Soaps and the Muppets, often pause at the Trinity Broadcasting Network to wonder at the incredible display of shallowness, extravagance, and New Age brand of Christianity. Long-haired male role-models adorn the “glory” of the woman, ignorant about the worldwide standard of manliness, “nature,” or their “shame” (1 Cor. 11:1-19). Jan Crouch replaced Tammy Faye as the Queen-of-the-painted-ladies and the fairy-god-mother of religious fantasy. What in the world did TBN supporters learn out of the whole PTL mess? What Christian trying to witness has not been mocked in the wake of the Bakker and Swaggart scandals! The founder of TBN, Paul Crouch boasts, “I am a little god! The Apostle Peter warned about religious leaders who are lustful and are experts in greed. They capture converts and exploit the weak (2 Pet. 2:14-19). In contrast to TBN’s foolishness, the cults on television deceptively look like true wholesome New Testament Christianity! It is easy to see how people get confused.

Kenneth Hagin, is known as the father of the Word-Faith movement. He actually plagiarized E.W. Kenyon “whose life and ministry were enormously impacted by such cults as Science of the Mind, the Unity School of Christianity, Christian Science, and New Thought metaphysics.” :”(Hanegraaff, ibid., p. 32.)”: Kenyon was an occultist! :”(G. Avanzini, Capps, Cerullo, Cho, Copeland, Crouch, Hickey, Howard-Browne, Price, Savelle, and Tilton all follow these same doctrines of devils (1 Tim. 4:1). Now Kenneth Copeland whines, “I was shocked when I found out who the biggest failure in the Bible actually is…The biggest one in the whole Bible is God.” :”(Hanegraaff, ibid., p. 125)”:

Rodney Howard-Browne believes Jesus left His deity in Heaven. What a serious error! Jesus charged the Jews, “if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins…Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:24,58). :”(Fisher, ibid., p. 15,16)”:

Marilyn Hickey tells others to just create what you need, speaking it into being, “Speak to your billfold. Say, ‘You big, thick billfold full of money…You’re just jammed full of money” :”(Hanegraaff, ibid., p. 351)”:

The wealthiest Word-Faith preachers have the biggest mailing lists. Confession works in one direction, from the suckers in the audience to the Faith preacher.

What Kind of Signs and Wonders?

John Wimber of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship, holds “Signs and Wonders Seminars” throughout the world, claiming healing is promised in the atonement. A sign of the movement’s confusion is evident. Wimber is sick with cancer!

Miracles do not prove God’s favor. In Deuteronomy 13:1-5, God “proveth” or tests the love of His people by seeing if they will go after a “prophet” who has “a sign or a wonder” (vs. 3,1). God wants His own to “fear” Him enough to “put the evil away from the midst of thee” (vs. 4-5). The “prophet or a dreamer of dreams” will lead people to the a “little g” god (vs. 1-2)! Kenneth Copeland’s blasphemes, “You don’t have a god in you, you are one!” :”(Hanegraaff, ibid., p. 110)”: Under the Law, God commanded the ultimate censuring of such heretics for the sake of purity – death! (vs. 5). God’s counsel, to either choose between false teachers who approach His people or else obedience to His Word, is still strong today. God measures the love that people claim. The barometer is if you really love Him, then you will obey Him (John 14:21)!

In the “last days…evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived” (2 Tim. 3:1,13). The Lord Jesus warned that “many” prophets doing these wonders in His name will be damned to hell (Mat. 7:21-23)! You wouldn’t want to be identified with evil, would you? “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah” (Mat. 12:39). The point is that the resurrection of the Son of God ought to be sufficient to bring joy into your life! Rodney Howard-Browne admits to elevating an experience with the devil above the TRUTH, “But I’d rather be in a church where the devil and the flesh are manifesting than in a church where nothing is happening because people are too afraid to manifest anything.” :”(Fisher, ibid., p. 13)”:

Charismatics prophesy a worldwide revival for the end times. They are wrong! Wide-spread turning to Christ is not predicted until the tribulation preaching of the 144,000! Scripture predicts for this period a great number of false teachers, false prophets, LYING signs and wonders, and a great falling away from the TRUTH to follow seducing spirits! Prophecy points to an ever-increasing worldwide apostasy with many false prophets deceiving many, not a revival (Mat. 24:3-5, 11)! “False prophets…shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Mat. 24:24)! “Satan” is working toward “all power and signs and lying wonders” (2 Thes. 2:7-9)! He is the master of “great wonders,” and “miracles” (Rev. 13:13-14)! Christian, be wary of the demonic deception of the “Signs and Wonders” movement of the last days.

The New Age Religion also received the signs and wonders by the laying on of hands! Humanity is headed for a one-world religion that is open to deception in the name of Jesus. It’s as if the cults use the name “Jesus” as their password for authenticity! Satan cleverly turns multitudes to the false teachers while making a mockery of Christianity! Many who follow a feel-good religion are not ready to hear the hard sayings of Christ (John 6:60). The only disciples that the Lord Jesus commends will “continue” in the Word of TRUTH (John 8:31-32)! Test all experiences by Scripture and follow the Lord!

What Kind of Prophesy?

We know Joseph Smith, Ellen G. White, and the Watchtower are false prophets. How about the Charismatics who declare, “Thus saith the Lord…” and “God’s message for you is…”? Jesus gave a powerful warning. Do not ignore it! “Beware of false prophets … Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Mat. 7:15,16). The “fruit” of a false prophet is a false prophecy!

By definition, a false prophet is described in Deuteronomy 18:20-22. Explanations in parenthesis are mine. “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word (just one) in my name (words like “The Lord told me…” or “I just sense in my spirit”), which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. (Censuring false prophets protects people from deep hurt and loss of confidence in God’s Word. Do we read: “Let that prophet readjust his figures”? “Forget the past”? “Give him a second chance”? “We all make mistakes”? “He may be just ‘kind-of-a-prophet’”? “Wait and see what harm was done first”? No!) And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? (That is a good question!) When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, (False charismatic prophesy is common! God spoke through the prophets when? In times PAST! That’s history! Hebrews 1:1), but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: (Stick with the “more sure Word of prophecy” which is Scripture! 2 Peter 1:19) thou shalt not be afraid of him.” (Don’t let the scare tactics rattle you. Mature Christians look for Jesus to come, but do not set dates or follow those who do!)

Anyone who goes after false prophets after all the warnings from God is very, very foolish! The Charismatic prophets miserably fail the test of a true prophet. They claim to be :”(T. Tillin, ‘Is It Revival?’ Banner Ministries, Summer 1994)”: to 65% accurate! C. Peter Wagner said in Indianapolis, “Many of your churches also are now becoming involved in prophetic movement. And I’m talking about serious prophecy; I’m talking about Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah kind of prophecy, where God speaks to the churches.” :”(David W. Special Issue, p. 30)”: Such boasting is common among false prophets. The Watchtower said a group was to speak as a “prophet…as was done toward Ezekiel,” known as “Jehovah’s Christian Witnesses” :”(Watchtower, March 15, 1972, p.189-190)”: Definitely wrong! TRUE prophets are zealous against sin and error (Jer. 14:14; 23:16-32; 27:15; Zech. 13:2-5)!

Rodney Howard-Browne predicted an outpouring of the Spirit in which, “Eyeballs will form, legs and arms will grow out…” He said God will very soon begin to miraculously transport people from place to place. He has the same source of information as Benny Hinn who said, Adam, “with one thought he would be on the moon.” :”(Hanegraaff, ibid., p. 119)”: Astral projection is of the occult, connected with voodoo and the black arts. :”(Fisher, ibid., p. 14)”:

Charismatic leaders LIED about Bob Jones’s (not the godly Bob Jones of Bob Jones University) prophetic dating of a drought. Paul Cain, “the most anointed prophet that’s in the world today,” gushingly predicted, “So that that glorious Church might be revealed in the last days because the Lord Jesus is worthy to be lifted up by a Church that has reached the full maturity of the God-man!” Maturity? It’s just more Corinthian carnality and heresy (1 Cor. 3:3)! Paul Cain messed up on the timing of an earthquake; but Wimber claimed it came true! :”()”: Don’t put up with “ignorant” people who think they are prophets and care less for decency and order (1 Cor. 14:37-40)!

What Kind of Revelation?

John Hinkle heard a voice saying that on June 9, 1994, “I will rip all evil from the earth” etc. Lacking common sense and a respect for biblical TRUTH, the Trinity Broadcasting Network was sucked in and became the vehicle for the LYING spirit! :”(Cloud, ibid., p. 31,34-35)”: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1)!

Gullible crowds embraced Peter Popoff as he claimed God spoke directly to him while he really had his wife speaking to him by an electronic ear device. Like Lea and Popoff, Robert Tilton had to be exposed by the secular world before this religious movement would censure him. Where is this “spirit of discernment”?

Under “revelation knowledge,” Benny Hinn claimed each Person of the Trinity is triune so “there’s nine of them” and “Jesus was born again!” :”(Hanegraaff, ibid., pp. 123, 173)”: Study the Bible and sit under the preaching of a faithful man of God so you won’t get sucked into these extra-biblical teachings!

James Ryle, a Wimber associate, said, “The Lord spoke to me and said, ‘What you saw in the Beatles–the gifting and sound that they had–was from Me.’” :”(M.H. Reynolds, “False Prophets…Pseudo Apostles, & A New Gospel,”
Fundamental Evangelistic Association, Vol. XII, Issue 1)”: Hold the applause; the Beatles were completely antichrist! (Send for a Beatles paper). Ryle’s vision from a god was nothing more than a Satanic delusion.

Oral Robert’s god held him hostage until people gave him more money! He also made a mistake on the cost of this faith-healer’s hospital. Clearly, his god does not know the future! Rodney Howard-Browne does, so he says! He reports occurrences of knowing “what’s going to happen one year, two years, three years in the future.” :”(Fisher, ibid., p. 15)”: Folks, God does not give us omniscience. The fortune-teller techniques open up all kinds of delusion. John Wimber said Christ could come at any time; but soon afterwards said little unborn children would live to see the coming of the Lord. :”(Reynolds, ibid)”: – That’s like, just blab whatever sounds good at the time!

What Kind of Evangelism?

Dr. Jack Deere, is one of the top theological leaders of the Vineyard Power Evangelism movement along with C. Peter Wagner. He says that the gospel is not about Jesus Christ who died for our sins and was buried and raised on the third day. When probed at length for an answer to explain the gospel, he was asked, “Could you perhaps tell me informally what you believe to be the gospel?” All Deere could say was, “I’m not sure.” :”(Reynolds, ibid)”:

The word “power” tickles the ears of this crowd; so they claim to have “power evangelism!” Larry Lea, “The Apostle of Prayer” for this century, took authority over San Francisco to drive out all of the homosexuals! (What an embarrassment as he bellowed across the airwaves daily about his spiritual warfare!) Get this; the homosexuals are still there, laughing at Christians! The Charismatic world applauded Lea, a self-condemned LIAR. It took secular television to pull back his fleece! “Power Evangelism” is nothing more than a powerful sound-system — blasting to the sheep and goats lost in their little wilderness of confusion!

These pip-squeaks think they bind the devil while Michael, God’s POWERFUL angel had to say, “The Lord rebuke thee.” John Wimber personally comes against the devil as he commands the Holy Spirit to help and Satan to leave!2 :”(Reynolds, ibid)”:

What Kind of Healing?

Frederick Price does not allow sickness in his home so he says; but his wife was treated for cancer! :”(Hanegraaff, ibid., p. 237)”: Charles and Francis Hunter while holding a healing crusade, sent Francis to the doctor because of pink eye.24

Jamie Buckingham, editor-at-large for the Charismatic Movement’s most prominent magazine, Charisma, was pronounced healed of cancer by his wife, Oral Roberts and other false prophets. Buckingham claimed, the still small voice of God told him he would live to be a hundred. He died of cancer in 1992. Religious people need to think! This editor with such great responsibility for the reports and articles to the Charismatic world listened to a voice but it was not God’s!25

William Branham, of the Oneness-Pentecostal cult, is one of the great fathers of the modern healing movement. He pronounced great numbers healed who died of the same problems shortly following their “healing” experience.26 Branham denounced the trinity as coming directly from the devil; yet Hagin, Copeland, and Hinn speak highly of the cult leader!27

Various cults testify of healings and blessings flowing from their ministries. Even when healings are real, that is still no proof that they came from God (Deut. 13:1-5; Mat. 7:21-23).

What Kind of Testimony?

Is the “Holy” Laughter Movement Christianity? Should we call it Satananity? Is it really Sanity at all?

The 700 Club and TBN crowds are hungry for signs and wonders, gratifying experiences, and goose-bump feelings. They are wide open to the demonic logic of the satanic counterfeits. The devils are laughing over the whole sham of these public spectacles in the name of Jesus Christ! Entertainment, emotionalism, and excitement still fill a church; but as in Hosea’s day, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee… seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children” (Hosea 4:6).

What Kind of Wine?

People have a choice whether to blindly follow a popular voice in the religious world or to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God” (2 Tim. 2:15)! Joy (chara) is not interchangeable with laughter (galeo). Joy is an inner delight with God for all He has done and is doing. Joy comes from believing God’s Word (Rom. 15:13; John 15:11). Joy remains during our trials after laughter is gone (2 Cor. 8:2; 1 Thes. 1:6; Jam. 1:2). Correctly interpreted, Proverbs 17:22 emphasizes the rejoicing heart contrasted to a broken spirit.

There is no biblical gift for a spirit of laughter. Rodney Howard-Browne repeats, “Fill — let it bubble out your belly — Ho-ho, He-he — Fill — Ho-ho-ho, Ho-ha-ha.” His spiritual expressions and methodology are more at home with the occult than in Christianity.28 Never is there the slightest hint in Scripture that we are to worship God from the belly. “Living waters,” in John 7:38, has nothing to do with laughter! The “living waters” symbolize the Holy Spirit who dwells in the heart or the innermost part of a Christian.

Rodney Howard-Browne’s meetings are not Spirit-filled laughter or joy, but hysteria and frenzy which are clearly condemned by God! This bunch is responsible as millions view the chaos and disorder as a “Christian” madness (1 Cor. 14:23). Rodney Howard-Browne likes to call himself “The Holy Ghost Bartender” who dispenses “new wine”29 In Ephesians 5:18, the filling of the Holy Spirit will manifest Himself in honoring God musically, melody in hearts, thankfulness, fear, and good marriages. See the context! This verse will never justify “laughing in the spirit.”

What Kind of Power?

Every Christian ought to view this “falling under the power” with grave concern! Born-again believers are not safe from satanic deceptions and experiences while fulfilling conditions for demonic activity. The closest biblical counterparts of those who fall backwards, called “slain in the spirit” today, include those who are the sinning, the unbelieving, the demonized, and God’s enemies! A demon-possessed son fell into the fire and the water (Mat. 17:15). Judas and his band fell backwards when Jesus identified Himself as the great “I am” (John 18:6). Saul of Tarsus and company all fell to the earth before Jesus’ glory (Acts 26:13,14). The priest and the erring prophet of wine and vomit fell backwards in Isaiah 28:13. Are they different from the new wine and the “vomiting-in-the-spirit” and the “slain-in-the-spirit” at a Rodney Howard-Browne meeting?

Worship is always to be biblical, orderly and reverent in manner. God’s Word underscores a true spiritual response to God’s power. The godly, in reverential awe, adoration and worship, fall forward in a prostrate position. There is no trace of hysterical laughter or convulsions (Gen. 17:1-3; Lev. 9:24; Joshua 5:13-15; Ez. 1:28; 43:1-5; 44:4; Mat. 17:5-6; 28:9-10; Rev. 1:17; 7:11; 11:16-17).

The phenomena is clearly explained in O TIMOTHY Magazine, Bible Baptist Church, 1219 N. Harns Road, Oak Harbor, WA 98277, Volume 11, Issue 9-10, 1994.

What Kind of Spirits?

The spirit of antichrist will appear to be Christ. As the serpent beguiled Eve, believers are seduced by “another spirit” (2 Cor. 11:3,4).

The “Holy” Laughter movement, like the Mormon movement, developed through a boy with an experience from a god. Rodney Howard-Browne says he prayed, “Either You come down here and touch me, or I will come up there and touch You.”30 He will meet God one day all right! But it will be on his face and bended knees (Isaiah 6; Phil. 2:10)!

You can’t trust demons. John Wimber gets doctrine from demons! He says some demons have bodies etc. because the demons told him.31 Wimber admittedly does not know if the encounters taking place in the Vineyard movement are from God or the devil. In fact, he says “there’s nothing in Scripture that supports these kinds of phenomena.” Surely you would expect the head of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship that popularized this movement to go to the Word and test the spirits whether they are of God (1 John 4:1)! No, Wimber says, “So I feel no obligation to try to explain it.”32

Howard-Browne’s proof that this is the move of God is that when he leaves it doesn’t stop.33 People, think! The blasphemous re-crucifixion of Christ in the Mass does not stop (Heb. 9:28; 10:10)! Rock music, the occult, or Satan’s effort to destroy this generation does not stop! The aberrations in the Church at Corinth did not stop because Paul left; they stopped because the Apostle confronted them with the book of 1 Corinthians. Then by the time he wrote 2 Corinthians, the carnal extravagance stopped.

A study of demonology reveals that demons interact with the mind, the emotions and the flesh. God deals with us primarily in the spirit. A 1994 article of Charisma quotes Rodney Howard-Browne as saying, “One night I was preaching on hell, and laughter just hit the whole place. The more I told people what hell was like, the more they laughed.” Friends, the Great White Throne judgment and the horrors of hell are no laughing matter! The works of the flesh and Satan’s devils mock the Word of God and interrupt scripture. Could Browne single-handedly get so many people to fall for such a Satanic mockery? These people are responding to the powers of darkness. Their attitudes took a bad change toward preaching about God, sin, morality, growing in grace, and the Church.

SIGNS AND WONDERS? One wonders why this group bothers to use the Bible at all. The focus is reduced to “will it sell?” Jesus Christ’s command to “Go ye into all the world” becomes “Come to our meetings!” A “new zeal for evangelism” is a zeal to draw other people into the same religious aberrations. The idea of evangelizing people is to zap them.34 Their substitute is a cheap “go-with-the-flow” message.

Howard-Browne blusters how at the age of twelve, “The voice said these words to me…Your mom will not be home today.”35 Are Browne’s experiences that of some super-saint or one involved with clairvoyance? People are encouraged to let go of their doctrine and clear their minds of any biblical objections. He says this is “The only way you’re going to understand what God is doing is with your heart.”36 (Check your brain at the door!) Beloved, God warns that your heart is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9)! The Bereans used their minds, searching the Scriptures even to check out the true preachers of integrity, the Apostles! Then God commended them (Acts. 17:11; 1 Thes. 5:21). Without the principles of the Word of God, how are we to see through the deceptions, the complex issues, the false Jesus, the false gospel, and the false Spirit? (2 Cor. 11:4)

In a movement so theologically poverty-stricken, real preaching is very rare! Preaching is reduced to silly shallowness, subjectivism, and spiritual hype. Scriptures are jerked out of context to legitimize the experience (smart devil)! Charisma magazine admits that the pulpit becomes irrelevant. The whole blasphemous circus makes “the word of God of none effect” (Mark 7:13).37 A sign of demonic activity is demonstrated by the irreverence, ignorance, intimidation, brainwashing techniques, fundraising games, and overall hypocrisy. This kind of Charismatic phenomena departed from the Headship of Christ, the authority of Scripture, the mission of Bible evangelism and Bible education. Now it’s all a joke to them!

Some pastors recognize the sham but they never rebuke the sin. Such cowardly shepherds pet the wolves who eat the lambs!

BE COURAGEOUS

 We Need A Revival

Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. Then we will not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.  Restore us, O LORD God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved! Psalm 80:17-19

Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?  Show us Your mercy, LORD,  And grant us Your salvation. I will hear what God the LORD will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land. Psalm 85:6-9

To solve any problem in life we must first admit there is a problem.  And then we must define the problem and work and pray for a solution to the problem. Brother T. Job Anbalagan of the Glory of His Cross Prophetic Ministries in his article “Revival Through Prophesy[i] ” has defined very well why we need a revival

An unsaved person is spiritually dead.  He is a lost soul, as he has not been redeemed from the sin by the Blood of Jesus.  He is to be born again in the Spirit of God.  There are millions of souls in the world awaiting revival from their spiritual death, which came through Adam. On the contrary, a saved soul is spiritually alive.  Nevertheless, he may be spiritually weak, dormant, dull, unconscious or oblivious.  He has a name that he lives but is dead (Rev.3: 1).  There are thousands of saved souls or born-again Christians in our midst, falling under this category.  Though they are born again, yet they are spiritually dumb, deaf, and blind.  They are dumb because they do not tell others about what Jesus has done for them or about the need for salvation through Jesus; they are shy of witnessing for Christ.  They are deaf because they hardly discern the voice of Jesus through the word of God; they are hard of hearing either the footsteps of the coming Messiah from above or the heart-rending cries of lost souls down from the bottomless pit.  They are blind because they do not perceive the suffering Christ in the garb of afflicted strangers who visit their houses for help or who remain sick or in prison (Matt.25: 35-40).        There are many saved Christians who slumber spiritually.  They have lost their first love for God.  Once they were zealous for God actively engaged in soul-winning or helping the mission fields.  The spirit of deep sleep has now come upon them (Is.29:10).

There are many believers who have fallen unconscious spiritually and lost their senses.  They have become indifferent to lost souls and the work in the Lord’s vineyard.  They do not have the agonizing mind of Christ.  Neither do they feel the agonies of the other members of the Body of Christ.   “…Whether one member suffers, all the members suffer with it…” (I Cor.12: 26).  They have no concern for the suffering missionaries on the mission fields or the poor saints in the House of God.

There is yet another category of Christians who are oblivious of their duties and responsibilities in the vineyard of God in this darkest hour as they give preference to the mundane things.

All these kinds of the children of God are likened to the children of Israel who have become “the dry bones” in the prophetic book of Ezekiel (Ch.1). Their lives are not different from the lives of the unsaved persons.  They are like the dry bones in the churches of God, whereas the unsaved persons are like the dry bones in the world. Prophetically speaking, all these children of God represent the last or the end-time Church of the Laodiceans who were lukewarm and were neither cold nor hot.  They are spiritually complacent and say, “I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing”.  However, the Holy Spirit points to them, “thou art wretched, and miserably, and poor, and blind, and naked”.  The Holy Spirit who has been constantly grieved by the lives of such children of God is still standing at the door and knocking at their hearts, unwilling to desert them because of His long-suffering.  “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Rev.3: 14-22).  The bride of the Song of Solomon sleeps but her heart wakes and hears the voice of her Beloved “that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night” (Song 5:2).

Since all these children of God are the individual members of the invisible Body of Christ, the Church, they are to be revived first.  God will send a might revival to this world only through the revived members of the Body of Christ.

There are many demonic inspired movements in Christendom today that talk about a revival but they are not real revival because they don’t involve the whole body of Christ and they don’t affect society and this includes especially the ones in the Third Wave and Rodney Howard Browne and Todd Bentley which are man centered and not Christ centered!

Todd Bentley [ii] is the tattooed former criminal who in July 2008 stepped down from his controversial revival in Florida over an affair with a woman. Bentley, raised in Gibsons, B.C., was known to be a heavy drinker. During his ecstatic services he would often punch or kick sick people in the name of healing them. It wasn’t his outrageous claims of raising the dead that finally landed Todd Bentley in trouble. Not the contradictory sermons, or even his criminal past. Not the face piercings, the neck-toknee tattoos, the biker-dude lifestyle. His followers could live with all that; it was part of the act.

Bentley, a 32-year-old former drug addict from the west coast, was the hottest thing going on the global televangelist circuit. A hog-riding faith healer with a devil-may-care attitude. Then he failed his flock, the old fashioned way: cheating on his wife. Todd Bentley, disgraced, went into hiding for six months and then resurfaced.

In 2009 after the revival failed and Todd Bentley [iii] divorced his wife, Rick Joyner led the restoration team which included leaders who had vouched for Bentley’s good character in the past even as he was deceiving us all, and has posted a letter on his web page. We are informed that ‘Even so, they are married now and are resolved to make the most of their marriage, their lives, and to continue to serve the Lord in the best way that they can. ‘

Their being married far from making it right has in my view made matters even  worse and totally disqualified Todd Bentley from any reinstatement in ministry in the foreseeable future. It means there is no repentance. He has simply gone into outright rebellion by marrying his mistress. Even if his wife had chosen to divorce him, which does not seem to be the case, a more judicious, moral and righteous course of action would have been to break off this adulterous relationship and stay celibate before God Instead, he remarries quickly. And we are put before the fait accompli. Is there a recent translation of the New Testament that decrees that the solution to adultery is to quickly divorce the offended party and marry the mistress?

Canadian Revivalist Todd Bentley preached on seven fold restoration including the restoration of marriage [iv] and had a mistress during the Lakeland demonic revival and-was drunk most of the time –  He stated:

If your marriage needs to be restored then stir up your faith and ask: “My God, please, I want You to restore my marriage, and I want it to be better than it was in the first place. I want there to be double the intimacy.” Get aggressive. Don’t just settle for an “okay, restore my marriage” attitude. “Restore my marriage and give it to me double!”

So why did Todd divorce his wife and not practice what he preached? Because he is a hypocrite, a false one, a son of hell just like all the preachers in the Third Wave!

Rick Joyner and Bill Johnson being both caught up in the realm of deceiving spirits, could  only reinforce TB’s behavior. TB’s declaration of “opening up the stargate portals to the third heaven” had absolutely nothing to do with God or His heavenly realms…it is based on previous declarations by high level occultist. His “angel” connections were not God’s angels, they are familiar spirits and demonic forces. What he does and declares is UTTERLY SATANIC…not “just a little eccentric.” The opening up of these “portals” that TB is engaged in is activated by his own soul power/soul energy called kundalini in Hinduism. Rodney Howard Browne [v] made his ministry known in the USA by playing to a large audience at the Charismatic Carpenter’s Home Church in 1993 and 1994. Through approval by Benny Hinn, who launched him at his own meeting, and Kenneth Copeland’s church meeting along with airplay by TBN He brought the new thing to naïve and silly Christians who were open for just about anything to happen and call it God. And so the new latter rain movement got a shot in the arm with laughing hysterically and being inebriated on the floor.

Rodney who believes in nepotism in his meetings taught that not only it was the pastor’s job to fleece the sheep but only God was to judge pastors, not the (dumb) sheep! He also taught that it was more important to give than to receive and spend a lot of time receiving offerings that he spent on himself and family members.

Rodney also taught that thieves were to be blessed and rewarded, not judged for this is what Jesus would want them to do!  So he blessed thieving Karl Strader with a new Lincoln town car with money raised from the dumb sheep when Karl robbed him but refused to help any of Dan Strader’s victims [vi].

James Jacob Prasch of Moriel Ministries writes in his article  The Delusional World Of Mark Stibbe & St Andrews Chorleywood [vii]:

From Kansas City to the religious fiasco in Toronto, to the failed revival at Brownsville resulting in a major church split and public financial scandal, and on to the infamous heresy and abuse of Lakeland. The same odious characters at the core attracting like-minded charlatans including the Strader brothers, Daniel imprisoned until 2036 for defrauding elderly Christians out of $3 million and Stephen who was thought by the judge to be just as guilty.

After Bentley’s exposure in the USA on ABC Nightline he was swiftly removed from ministry to prevent further scrutiny. Not only was he unable to provide evidence of a single healing, many who were pronounced healed have since died. Furthermore the Arnold Palmer Hospital has stated that claims of resurrections were bogus

For those that don’t know, in 2008 (April to July) there was a revival in Lakeland Florida where people were thrown around by some invisible force (which they, Charisma Magazine insisted was the Holy Spirit). People shook violently on stage claiming the most bizarre manifestations, visions and visitations by angles. Todd Bentley punched and kicked people to heal them, spoke of visiting people in dreams and also told of countless trips to heaven where he once stuffed his pockets with gold from a treasury room. He blasphemously baptised people in the name of the father, the son and the bam. But who could forget the 39 people claimed risen from the dead.

The jerking in Toronto, Brownsville, Lakeland or any other revival place is not a sign of the Holy Spirit but of a Kundalini demon which infiltrated Christianity mainly in North America through Rodney Howard Browne!  The fact is the bible never talks about “jerking” being an attribute of the Holy Spirit but rather it states but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control THE KEY WORD HERE IS SELF-CONTROL AND WHEN YOU ARE POSSESSED BY A DEMONIC KUNDALINI SPIRIT THERE IS NO CONTROL AND THAT IS TOTALLY WRONG AND AGAINST SCRIPTURE!

Pastor/Evangelist Gordon Williams [viii] in his posting “Todd Bentley Is Not A Christian” states:

Jesus heals, I must disagree with you when you wrote, “Miracles and gifts of the spirit don’t validate a Christian. The fruit of the spirit validates a Christian. peace, love, patience, hope, joy, faith.” First, you did not mention all of the fruit of the Spirit but I know what you mean (Gal. 5: 22 -23). The reason why I disagree with you is because you continuously mis-identify people, like Todd Bentley as a Christian. He is not a Christian nor are those who go chasing after the counterfeit signs and so-called miracles that he and others misrepresent as being from the Holy Spirit. Real Christian Believers do not get deceived and offer counterfeits because they draw attention to themselves and they cannot tell the difference between the work of the Holy Spirit and the work of the devil and demons. They do not do the things that the New Testament tells us clearly are the work and character of authentic Christian believers. They glory in their sin and make excuses for their adulterous work, drunkenness and love of money to say nothing of all the works of the flesh which they seem to think are the fruit of the Holy Spirit. As a man once told me: “If it doesn’t look like a sheep, and eat like a sheep and talk like a sheep and do sheep things, it isn’t a sheep”. Well, just stop and look at all the un-Scriptural things these people are doing. They do not look like Christians, they don’t eat as Christians, they do not talk like Christians and they do not do Christian things. So, they are not Christians.

Jesus tells us that the “signs” following confirm the preaching of the Word and prove who are authentic believers. This is very clear when you examine the Greek definition of “signs”. They were the reason why Nicodemus said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we know that you are a man sent from God; for no man could do these signs that you do, unless God is with him” (Jn. 3: 2). The legitimate 15 Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12: 6 – 8; 1 Cor. 12: 8 – 10)prove that we are authentic believers. The fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5: 22 – 23) describes the Character of Jesus which the Holy Spirit develops us so that we can use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Because the real or authentic Gifts of the Holy Spirit are not being used and encouraged with these counterfeit Christians who demonstrate counterfeit gifts, we have to be very careful in choosing our words as I think you have done in your letter. I learned a long time ago that there are “Christians” and there are “christians” (religious people) who are not believers. People, like the person you mentioned who received healing and made the mistake of attributing it to Todd Bentley has not learned that whoever calls on Jesus will catch Jesus’ attention, even while watching a deceptive person pretending to be a believer, and answer their prayer and heal them. When I examine these counterfeit Christians, according to Scripture, they are not believers according to Jesus Christ. Because most pastors and churches do not encourage the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and use the 15 Gifts of the Holy Spirit, they are easy victims when the counterfeits are demonstrated. This is an important ministry that we have in the churches that I am invited to preach and do ministry. As you know it is “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ” (Eph. 4: 12). So, I suggest that you do not look upon such people as Christians because they are not

THE FALSE BROWNSVILLE REVIVAL

THE FLUFF AND STUFF

Now, consider the so-called “miracles” emerging from the “Brownsville Revival”. I have either witnessed all of the following myself (in person or on video tape), or heard reports of the following from eye-witnesses. People fall over (this is called “slain in the Spirit” or “prostration”), people laugh, people belch, people jerk, people bow at the waist, people vomit, people crawl on their hands and knees and bark like dogs, people scream and shriek, people dance, people jump off of platforms into an imaginary “river” flowing just off the platform, people tuck their hands under their armpits, flap their arms, and cluck like chickens, and so on ad infinitum. The overarching defining quality of the “Brownsville miracle” is this: things happen that can be duplicated by mere human effort. Note that in virtually all cases there is no practical reason for the supernatural event. Rather, people are pursuing experiences for the sheer sake of the experience. Next I contend that not only should these demonstrations not be called “miracles,” but they should not even be called “manifestations” of the Spirit.

THE GREEN RIVER OF BROWNSVILLE
LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND NOT-SO FAMOUS

A lot of things get counted at the Brownsville Assembly of God. It is the site of some fantastic claims and what has been called “the largest local church revival in the history of America.”

Since the inception of the so-called “Pensacola Outpouring” on Father’s Day 1995, grandiose claims have been made about the revival services hosted four nights a week, 48 weeks a year for the past three years. More than 2.5 million people reportedly have attended these services. The number of “decisions for Christ” is claimed to top 133,000.

All sorts of figures abound as a result of this purported “last days” revival and outpouring of the Holy Spirit. But these figures are quite selective and ambiguous. For example, the attendance total and number of decisions, in many cases, reflect the same person making repeated visits and decisions.

What is more disturbing is what is not being reported. Throughout the revival’s public relations campaign, little, if any, coverage has been devoted to the large amount of cash being funneled into the church’s coffers and into the key leaders’ independent ministries through donations and by way of the sale of videotapes, literature and revival paraphernalia. Once Pensacola’s local newspaper got involved, the public learned how lucrative the revival business is.

Beginning in the fall 1997, following several months of exceptional investigative work, the Pensacola News Journal released a series of award-winning articles challenging the questionable practices of the leadership of the Brownsville Assembly of God church. The paper revealed a carefully planned and orchestrated revival by the church’s leadership — the antithesis of the claimed spontaneous move of God — and has shown how some claims have been fabricated to enhance the revival’s reputation.

The Brownsville leadership’s financial benefits have become a focal point for the newspaper’s ongoing reports. PFO has long contended that the revival was more commodities and merchandising than biblical sanctification. (See “The Murky River of Brownsville,” The Quarterly Journal, April-June 1997.) The News Journal information only sustained in greater detail what PFO had already discerned.

For 1997, the newspaper estimated “the total revival revenue was between $4.3 million and $5.4 million for that one year.” These figures were based upon on-site donations and contributions, sales of books, tapes and other literature, and funds from two ministers’ conferences sponsored by the revival.

Offerings from the Friday night revival services are given directly to evangelist Stephen Hill. According to tax records secured by the newspaper, the Friday weekly evening offering averaged in excess of $20,000, and in 1996 (the first full year of the revival) these donations gave Hill’s ministry, “Together in the Harvest,” nearly $1 million. Some pastors do not receive $20,000 a year, let alone $20,000 a week! A representative for the church estimated that the average collection during each of the week’s other three services is $12,500 nightly.

Indeed, revival has been very, very profitable for the men overseeing this purported move of the Holy Spirit. Three of the revival’s principal leaders have all acquired large tracts of land by way of their independent ministries and have built or are currently building opulent homes.

The newspaper disclosed that “Feast of Fire,” the ministry of church pastor John Kilpatrick, bought “16 acres in Seminole, Ala., and constructed a combination bus barn, guest house and office.” The barn was built to accommodate the $310,000 deluxe motor coach (literally an apartment on wheels) to chauffeur the pastor on his revival-related travels. Also on the property, Kilpatrick has built a $340,000 luxury home. All of this comes despite the pastor’s hollow declaration that: “I have always strived to set an example by not living above the means of my people.” Kilpatrick’s salary from his ministry in 1996 was $100,000 (for which the newspaper claimed he worked 20 hours a week) and he received a $73,600 annual salary from the church.

Evangelist Hill’s ministry has also flourished since the revival’s inception. “Together in the Harvest” reported an increase in its land assets from no property in 1994 to over a half million dollars’ worth two years later. In 1996, it bought 40 acres of land in Lillian, Ala., and, according to the newspaper’s account, has subsequently paid to “refurbish a house for Hill and his family, remodel an existing barn into living quarters and build a distribution center, duplex house and an office building” on the property just across the Florida state line. The cost of the Alabama parcel was listed at $887,931.

While Hill’s ministry did use nearly 10 percent of its 1996 income for “specific assistance to individuals,” a sizable percentage went to those directly connected with the revival or with Hill, including Kilpatrick, theologian Michael Brown, singer Charity James and others.

Hill has also told revival attendees about an orphanage in rural Argentina that “Together in the Harvest” has supported. Following assistance from the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, the Pensacola newspaper located the orphanage. The paper stated, “A spokesperson at the orphanage said Hill had been in a mission group that helped build the orphanage in the 1980s. But she also said the orphanage had not heard from Hill for about 10 years, and she asked the News Journal for Hill’s address so the director could write Hill and ask for a donation.”

Michael Brown, theologian for the revival and president of the Brownsville Revival School Ministry, has followed the lead of Kilpatrick and Hill and is also moving west. Brown’s organization, “ICN Ministries Inc.,” recently purchased an 11-acre tract in Alabama. The paper reported that “Brown and his wife are building a house, which their building permit estimates at $727,360 construction cost, on a portion of the land that his ministry ICN purchased.” Brown was quick to point out that “ICN is not paying for construction of any house anywhere,” the newspaper said. Brown, in a letter to the editor, challenged the paper’s report and said that “My wife and I are not building a home valued at $727,000. … Actually, the official appraisal sets the value of the house and its three surrounding acres of property at less than $425,000, equal to the value of our home in Pace [Fla.].”

Brown’s home in Pace was purchased in 1996 for $419,000 and is located at a gated subdivision on a golf course. Reporters from the newspaper told PFO that they stand by their original figures for Brown’s new home.

Despite the News Journal’s exposure of the dramatic upsurge of the revival leadership’s lifestyles, a lack of financial accountability remains. After three full years, the revival leaders still have not gained certification from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), although two of the three, Kilpatrick and Hill, have formally applied, Brown has not.

The vigorous pleas for donations continue unabated. “Let us give joyfully, for the need is so great” is an anthem heard as revival leaders sometimes spend as much as 20 minutes of the services asking for donations. The appeal for funds has also gone beyond the church walls. Hill’s “Together in the Harvest” ministry made a recent solicitation by way of a mass mailing from names acquired at the revival. The newspaper said that “Hill tells his letter recipients that Jesus has informed him that He is coming back in the near future, and He won’t tolerate sinners.”

Hill even pretends to have God speaking: “Let them know My warm season of grace and mercy will soon turn to a chilling winter of judgment and wrath. … The warm days of My wooing will be exchanged for the fiery days of My vengeance,” he wrote in his funds appeal letter. To encourage the need for donations and their urgency, his accompanying newsletter said that the cost of saving souls was mounting. Evidently, so is property and its upkeep in Alabama.

As the fiscal fortunes realized in the past few months set the future standard for these men and their ministries, more time and energy will be devoted to the raising of funds. They will soon find, if they have not done so already, the ministry, its needs, and their lifestyle will take on an existence of its own. Expenses will be the machine that relentlessly drives them. During dialogue about the large sums of money being invested into the personal fortunes of these men, one Brownsville staff member recently asked PFO director G. Richard Fisher, “Does that offend you?” You bet it does, and it does because of the following.

The mounting greed has perhaps caused these men to be blinded to what they are doing to people — and if it is not their desire for fortune, then it may well be born out of an appetite for fame and power. Reports are now being heard that people have come to the revival services with dead babies — hoping and praying for the resurrection of the deceased children. The men responsible for the revival have long contended that the day is coming when raisings from the dead will be commonplace within the Church. And they have even claimed reports of resurrections. How appropriate Peter’s words apply here: “In their greed these [false] teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up” (2 Peter 2:3).

Peter also advised that elders not be in ministry for gain (1 Peter 5:2-3). Brownsville leaders are setting their faithful, gullible and desperate followers up for even bigger disappointments and horrendous grief.

Perhaps the money lust has inured the Brownsville leaders to the bizarre and pathetic. In July, they were featuring David Hogan, who claimed 300 raisings from the dead in Mexico. Of course, no evidence was offered and details were sketchy. An e-mail message to Brownsville from PFO produced no documentation, just a fax number for David Hogan. Brownsville leaders did not seem to want to stand by what goes out from their pulpit. They would offer no documentation or names and places for Hogan’s claims.

Two requests were sent to Hogan’s fax number asking for his credentials for ministry and the names and locations for the raisings. PFO’s request for the specifics have also gone unanswered by Hogan or his ministry.

Even more regrettable is how all of this has taken the revival even further away from the moorings of Scripture. The apostle Paul, in establishing the qualifications for Church elders and overseers, states that he should not be “a lover of money” and “not pursuing dishonest gain” (1 Timothy 3:3, 8). Temperance must be held by the Church leader in many areas of life, including his finances and material possessions. The Evangelical Commentary on the Bible notes: “The overseer must be respected for his behavior. He must open his life to others and be able to communicate God’s truth” (pg. 1105). No doubt the communication spoke of by the Commentary addresses not only oral expressions, but also a lifestyle which testifies to the Gospel.

Paul further writes to Timothy that an elder “must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap” (1 Timothy 3:7). According to statements from the Pensacola News Journal’s writers to PFO, the reputation of the Brownsville leadership regretfully lacks the good standing in the community that Paul insisted on. They are viewed as money changers in the temple.

The revival leaders charged the newspaper’s reports contain “factual errors and distortions.” In spite of their reaction (laced with measures of intimidation), the News Journal cannot be so easily dismissed. A good degree of responsibility and a desire for change must be demonstrated by the Brownsville leaders. Certainly they cannot give an unequivocal “silver and gold have I none.”

If there is not serious change and repentance, the revival and its leadership will drift into even greater perversion. They may have fat bank accounts and fat wallets but in the end that does not impress God. The leadership in Brownsville has forgotten the words of the Savior: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth. … but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:19-20). When a river turns green, it means it’s polluted and in the end the green river of Brownsville may well be its downfall. Christ came to make us right, not rich.

BROWNSVILLE REVIVAL

The “Pensacola Revival” is the directly linked to the TB (Toronto Blessing i.e Toronto Curse) , as the fateful 1995 Father’s Day outbreak. Both Steve Hill and the leadership of the Brownsville Assembly of God had gone to Toronto to receive the “anointing” personally.
“Strange, unusual and wonderful things started happening after Brenda Kilpatrick came back from the Vineyard church in Toronto, Canada . . . signs of early revival started manifesting in the spring services . . . What had been seen in Toronto started happening among the people of Brownsville . . . Brenda explained how she had a drastic change in her prayer life. ‘I could never be the same again after I returned from Toronto.” (The Source of “The River” By Pastor Bill Randles) Brenda then proceeds to tell one of these ‘wonderful things’ – being frozen in one position for over two hours! This is the very same occurrence in RHB at Carpenters Church in Florida.
“The time had come for God to allow His move at the Pensacola church. [Brenda explains] ‘We had a friend named Steve Hill . . . He called us about his impartation that he had received from England. He was just on fire with a new anointing of what God had given him. We were so excited and said, ‘Maybe this will bring revival when Steve comes . . . ‘”
Pentecostal preacher Joseph Chambers wrote in The End Times Newsletter, (March-April 1997, p. 8). “For several weeks leading up to this time [the beginning of the manifestations in Pensacola], some changes had been taking place, and some of the members of Brownsville AOG had been traveling up to Toronto meetings, even taking carloads and vanloads of members along. Mrs. Kilpatrick [the pastor’s wife] made two trips accompanied by the wife of one of the church officers. Rev. Kilpatrick [pastor of Brownsville AOG] started to drive up there one time, but his trip was interrupted and he returned to Pensacola without making it to the Toronto airport vineyard meeting. I saw no mention of this in his book. When this series of meetings began in Pensacola, a lot of organization had to be done in a hurry–namely, the formation of ‘prayer teams’ and how to deal with the people who came forward. The order of the day was: ‘That’s how they do it in Toronto’” (Dr. Herb Babcock, former member of Brownsville AOG, “That’s How They Do It in Toronto!”
“Our pastor’s wife went to Toronto in February or March of 1994, I don’t remember when for sure, but when she got back…without even telling of any of the manifestations she had seen…a few started that very Sunday she returned. She came back healed of things…so changed that Pastor was jealous of the refreshing touch God had given her!
“Then Lindel Cooley became our new worship leader. Our other one was anointed but Lindel brought something more….He, too, had visited Toronto right before he came to Brownsville.”
Kilpatrick showed the congregation a video of a Toronto Blessing service, in which people fall to the floor, “slain in the spirit,” as they feel the Holy Spirit taking over them.
Kilpatrick had followers of evangelist Rodney Howard-Browne attend a Brownsville service, where they functioned as an example of highly expressive worship. Howard-Browne, a dramatically energetic evangelist who calls himself the “Holy Ghost bartender,” is known for promoting the “holy laughter” phenomenon in which people succumb to hysterical convulsions. His followers did that at Brownsville.
It was at HTB that Hill was to receive the “impartation” that he’d transmit to the BAG church, which would become the basis for the “Pensacola Revival.” Hill had first read about HTB in an article in Time magazine titled Laughing for the Lord, August 15, 1994.
Hill said in an interview with Don Nori in the Destiny Image Digest, “We’ve received a lot from the Toronto church on how to pray with people and care for folks. We model a lot of what’s going on here from them.”
Hill had been to Toronto to receive the “anointing.” But sought another anointing in a Anglican church in England, Holy Trinity Brompton.
Hill’s recounts how he received the “impartation” at HTB. Reading the Time magazine article titled Laughing for the Lord, August 15, 1994 lit something in him. He asked his hosts, “Where is the Holy Ghost moving in England?” His hosts were members of HTB and loaded him down with literature concerning the “revival.” Hill began to read, “testimony after testimony” of lives changed and of faith renewed, his hunger increased, and he made an appointment with the pastor of HTB, Sandy Millar.
Hill arrived at the church during the prayer meeting, amazed at the sight of it: “I stepped over bodies to get to the pastor. When Sandy touched me, I fell to the ground . . . I was like a kid at Toys-R-Us . . . Then, I got up and ran to a couple and said, ‘Pray for me, man, this is good!’ They touched me and WHAM! I went back down. Some of you, God is going to hit in a powerful way. If you are hungry, get prayed for a dozen times.” (From the Father’s Day video, June, 1995.)
I guess if it doesn’t work the first time be opened to eleven more. Pensacola has become famous for its palsied “chicken walk,” or shake, jerk and fall manifestations. Even the prayer teams themselves were manifesting some form of the jerks, twitches.
Brenda explains one of those ‘wonderful things’ – being frozen in one position for over two hours! like Toronto they claim it was a spontaneous outpouring, just like Toronto they are frozen (which all comes from Rodney Browne). One is given the notion that, “Suddenly, like a rushing mighty wind,” the Spirit blew in on an unsuspecting Pentecostal church taking them by surprise, hitting the pastor in the back of his legs and knocking him over. But there was an anticipation that something was definitely going to happen.
[Brenda explains] ‘We had a friend named Steve Hill . . . He called us about his impartation that he had received from England. He was just on fire with a new anointing of what God had given him. We were so excited and said, ‘Maybe this will bring revival when Steve comes . . . ‘”
Rev. Kilpatricks statements reveal the his understanding of this move, “THIS IS NOT A PREACHING REVIVAL,” (Rev. John Kilpatrick Leadership Meeting Oct. 1996, Kerrville, Texas)
If not preaching then what? “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” (Rom. 10:17) Peter preached the Word, three thousand were added that day. We are told to preach the word, we are sent to preach, not to make them twitch and shake. But he is right it is not a preaching revival in the same way Toronto was not either.
Evangelist Steve Hill, a Pensacola’s Brownsville Assembly of God, interviewed on TV’s “20/20,” explains his experience “I didn’t believe in God, but…out of desperation…I said, ‘Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.’ I just began to say that name, and a power came through my body….” This same chant is seen at the services invoking Jesus. This is how he was born again, a highly unusual and non biblical way.
Well the church of Witness Lee (local church) does the same thing, just chant Jesus. The more you say his name the more power of his presence is there.
Steve Hill enthusiastically moving from one seeker to another at Brownesville touching the middle forehead yelling, “More, Lord!” this is thee same same as Toronto The result is always the same-the spirit is imparted and it causes seekers to shake, laugh, roar, fall out, etc. all the same things at Toronto.
Hill chants the name,” ‘Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!’ A peace, a warmth such as I never felt before, flooded my body. This power rushed in like a river and took command of everything. I kept crying out His name, louder and louder: ‘Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!’ The more I said it, the greater was my deliverance.”( Hill, The Pursuit of Revival, 30. )
This is what the cults do to beckon the spirit to manifest. The repetition of words over and over is a New Age occultic technique called a mantra. as Hindu mantras “Aum” or “Hare Krishna”-invoke a spirit. The Gnostics said iii eee oooo and other such syllables to invoke the power.
When a willing subject is found in a passive state and a mantra is repeated, a demonic power overcomes the speaker. This is exactly how Hill describes his conversion! Where in the Scripture does it instruct someone to do such a thing?
Hill does the same , repeating “More, Lord!,” and “Fire! Fire! Fire!,” to summon and pass on the spirit at the Brownsville “revival.” For instance, the Brownsville prayer team, the group that prays for people at Hill’s altar calls, is instructed to impart the spirit only by touch and the repetition of words (cliche’s). Dr. Herb Babcock, former prayer team member explains, “While on the prayer team, we were instructed to NOT pray in Jesus’ name. We were told to NOT pray for the needs of people. The only thing we were to do was touch people on their forehead and say, “More, Lord!” and keep repeating that until there was an “impartation” of the spirit being promoted in these meetings.” Babcock continues, “If the person did not respond in a reasonable time, move on to someone else. Any deviation from the limited procedure would result in being removed from the prayer team, which did happen to a few individuals.” ( Dr. Herb Babcock, “That’s How They Do It In Toronto!,” The End-Times and Victorious Living, Vol. 11, No. 2, March/April 1997, 18.)
This is exactly what Rodney Browne states! Fill , fill, there it is , the fire etc.. Coincidence, not really.
Hill has stated in rebuttal to his critics, “The second mark of a God mocker is a fear of confrontation and change. They are so stuck in religious tradition that they are closed to new revelation. … (How anyone can come into a revival meeting in Brownsville and fail to feel Jesus is beyond me! I can’t imagine it.)” (Stephen Hill, The God Mockers, chapter 1)
This is similar again to what Browne states to his critics. “Pharisees, Saducees. wouldn’t sees.”…”You can’t understand what God is doing in these meetings with an analytical mind,’ he says. ‘The only way you’re going to understand what God is doing is with your heart.” (Holy Laughter, Albert James Dager, 1996)
In 1996 Steve Gray of Smithon Missouri went with is wife to visit Pensacola. He states he went not to get something but to see “as Moses went to o see the burning bush.” While he may admit he went not to get “it’ he certainly believed it was God he went to see, as the analogy tells all. After the revival services he says that God spoke saying “he wanted you to have revival.” This again shows me that this is man centered, because God would never say such a thing since it is by his spirit alone that revival comes from. He never tells anyone to ‘have a revival” but to repent and from this attitude he may or may not send one.
Steve was depressed and couldn’t fathom the thought But God told him,”I didn’t say I want you to be a revival. I said I want you to have a revival.”
When he got back to his Church on the 2nd night God poured out his power, healing and restoration on the entire congregation. he describes “the air felt like a waterfall flowing with waves and waves of the glorious river of God. So was born the Smithton outpouring. There have been over 200,000 people from all over the world that have visited since Mar. of 1996.
Now where is the tie in besides Toronto look at what Pastor Kilpatrick says, “Brother Kenneth Hagin and Brother Kenneth Copeland have done an excellent job along with others on teaching us about the authority of the believer.” (Glory on Your House , John Kilpatrick) Where does the source come from? The common denominator is traced to the word faith movement. Hagin, Copeland, Hinn.
Personally I would like to believe this is genuine but when one knows of the trail that this all came from, how can something that came from Pensacola, that came from Toronto and came from Copeland, Hagin, Rodney Browne via Benny Hinn and even further back into the Latter Rain be authentic?
Well this has been quite a ride (though a short one) of tracking the spirit manifestations from its infancy to its current teenage state. As it spreads further it will mature into its real purpose.
The teaching of anointed ones who dispense the “it”. This spirit is localized and transferable from Benny Hinn, Rodney Howard Browne, and Toronto. Go to Toronto, Brownsville to “receive a fresh touch from God.” But you cannot receive this spirit unless someone that already has received it, gives it to you.
These are pilgrimages to “power centers” (anointing) where the spirit is in manifesting is exactly what Jesus warned about in MT.24 “When they say to you, ‘Look here is Christ or there he is’ go not after them . . . “(the newest one is to TB Joshua in Nigeria)
It is not, “Look here is Jesus,” but “Look here is Christ.” The word “Christ” means ” anointed one.” They go to Toronto or Pensacola for “the anointing” from an anointed one, not for the teaching of Jesus. In fact most of the people participating in these spiritual movements care little for teaching- they are there for an experience.
There are testimonies of a experience but How does God authentically change a life? The new model says that God changes people by “zapping them” and they have an immediate experience, he operates on them, they feel him. There is no such thing as this in Scripture except for the immediate born again experience of salvation. And more often than not people will not feel a thing.
Constantly the people are sent messages like “Some of you are going to feel a heavy sensation in your arms and legs. That’s God. You’re going to fall down, or you will feel numb and can’t move. Others are going to feel heat, or electricity and some of you will start to laugh or cry.” This is sensual feelings from the outside, true spiritual activity is from within if one possesses the new nature. this is no different than what the gurus gave to their devotees in shakti-pat.
We should be careful not to confuse the sensual with true spirituality. Certainly there are times God can be felt but feelings are to be ruled by the spirit of self control, which demonstrates true spirituality. One need not wonder what needs to take place for the church to be removed from the faith. Something must come to undermine the peoples objective discernment by either replacing it or changing it. Feelings and experience are a hard taskmaster to live by. Jude whose book is about contending for the faith and apostates in the Church warns us of those who are ” sensual persons.” they cause divisions (heresies) not having the Spirit. Those who do not have the spirit or are not having him work by them will often do gyrations to convince themselves and others they do!
I watched a baptism conducted at Pensacola on video and some people go wild, thrashing and fighting as they are dunked. They look like they need deliverance instead of officiating a welcome into the body of Christ. I thought baptism was to illustrate the old person is dead, in these they ( the old nature) becomes more alive.
Hill has said, “I’ve come home with wounds and bruises all over my body, friend. This is revival!” Power and activity = God, is a dangerous road to travel on.
Today’s revival is filled with dumbfoundedness, collapsing (slain), stammering, slamming, paralysis all kinds of acts of violence and one can act like a looney bird and blame it all on the Spirit. We have today in the church of Jesus Christ false prophets, seducers, liars and thieves masquerading as men of God, including people like Rodney Howard Browne, Rick Joyner, Bill Johnson, Todd Bentley, Peter Wagner, who through the Third Wave give rise to seducing Spirits and doctrines of devils.

The Third Wave is a revival of the theology of the Latter Rain tent revivals of the 1950s and 1960s led by William Branham and others. It is based on the idea that in the end times there will be an outpouring of supernatural powers on a group of Christians that will take authority over the existing church and the world. The believing Christians of the world will be reorganized under the Fivefold Ministry and the church restructured under the authority of Prophets and Apostles and others anointed by God. The young generation will form “Joel’s Army” to rise up and battle evil and retake the earth for God.

While segments of this belief system have been a part of Pentecostalism and charismatic beliefs for decades, the excesses of this movement were declared a heresy in 1949 by the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and again condemned through Resolution 16 in 2000. The beliefs and manifestations of the movement include the use of ’strategic level spiritual warfare’ to expel territorial demons from American and world cities. Worship includes excessive charismatic manifestations such as hundreds of people falling, ’slain in the spirit,’ and congregations laughing, jerking, and shrieking uncontrollably.

Rodney Howard-Browne is one of the most controversial and publicized figures of the Third Wave movement. While many of the leaders have been almost invisible in the mainstream media, Howard-Browne and his Holy Laughter anointing have been covered by CNN , Time, Newsweek, PBS, and numerous British media outlets. Howard-Browne refers to himself in many of these articles as the “Holy Ghost bartender.”

He is also one of the most controversial figures in the Evangelical world and is the subject of many hundreds of internet pages from other Evangelical and Fundamentalists discernment groups who view his unusual revival manifestations such as uncontrollable laughter, weeping, shrieking, and animal noises, as cultic. Other conservative Christians also find fault with Howard-Browne’s end time belief that a unified and purified church is currently being restored through a “great awakening” that is manifesting itself through these “signs and wonders.”

Howard-Browne, like the other leaders of the Third Wave, believe that they are raising a great end time army that will take control of the world through spiritual warfare, and triumph over Satan before the millennial reign of Jesus.

Their being married far from making it right has in my view made matters even worse and totally disqualified Todd Bentley from any reinstatement in ministry in the foreseeable future. It means there is no repentance. He has simply gone into outright rebellion by marrying his mistress. Even if his wife had chosen to divorce him, which does not seem to be the case, a more judicious, moral and righteous course of action would have been to break off this adulterous relationship and stay celibate before God Instead, he remarries quickly. And we are put before the fait accompli. Is there a recent translation of the New Testament that decrees that the solution to adultery is to quickly divorce the offended party and marry the mistress?

Rick Joyner and Bill Johnson who are both caught up in the realm of deceiving spirits, have been working hard to reinforce Todd Bentley’s unbiblical behavior as acceptable. It’s to be noted  Todd Bentley’s s declaration of “opening up the stargate portals to the third heaven” has absolutely nothing to do with God or His heavenly realms…it is based on previous declarations by high level occultist. Bill Johnson and his wife are fascinated by the “mystical” and “mystical experiences.” In his book, “When Heaven Invades Earth,” he has artfully twisted the definition of what an “anointing” is, the character and nature of the Holy Spirit, and the very attitude we are to have before a Holy God. His page titled “My Story-Glorious But Not Pleasant,” is a TEXTBOOK RENDITION of the kundalini awakening, replete with “unexplainable power began to pulsate through my body, seemingly just shy of electrocution.” He goes on to explain how it was like a thousand volts of electricity flowing through his body; his arms and legs shot out in silent explosions as if something was released through his hands and feet, and the more he tried to stop it, the worse it got. 4. When no sooner you have sat with eyes closed than in an instant the body begins to show activity of throwing out limbs forcibly, deformed sounds are loudly uttered, your speech begins to utter sounds like those of animals, birds and frogs or of a lion or like those of jackals, dogs, tigers, fear inspiring and not pleasing to hear, understand that the Great Goddess Kundalini has come into action.

10. When you feel vibrations of prana at different stations inside your body and feel its flow wherever you fix your attention and nerves begin to show easy jerks like jerks of electricity as if passing through them, know that the Goddess Kundalini has come into action.

11. When all day and night you feel within your body some activity of prana and whenever you concentrate your mind, your body at once begins to shake or begins tossing and your mind remains filled with joy and bliss at all times, even when at call of nature, even during sleep you feel currents of prna rising up in your sahasrrand even in dreams you experience Her presence, know that the joy-inspiring Kundalini has come into action.

12. As soon as you sit for prayers your body begins to shake and in ecstasy of joy you begin to sing hymns in tones of music charming to hear and whose composition and poetry come out involuntarily, your hands giving a rhythmical clapping, and you pronounce languages you know not, but the sound ecstasizes your mind, know that the Goddess of speech, Saraswati, has awakened into action.

13. When you feel intoxicated without taking any drug, while walking your steps fall majestically or like one drunk and you are unable to do any other work and you like to remain mute and dislike speaking to or hearing others and you feel like one drunk of Divinity, know that your Atma Shakti Kundalini, the power of Self, has come into action.

14. While walking, when your mind is filled with an impulse to walk faster and your feet begin to move a running, you feel your body light like air and do not feel fatigued even having walked long enough, you feel buoyant and joyful, you are not unhappy even in dreams, you can keep the balance of your mind undisturbed in all ups and downs, and you acquire an inexhaustible energy for work, know that the Brahma Shakti Kundalini has come into action.

15. When you are in meditation you see visions divine and fall in a dreamy state of mind, have divine smells, see divine figures, feel divine tastes, hear divine sounds and experience divine touch and receive instructions from Gods, then understand that the divine power of Kundalini has come into action.

16. When you are in meditation, future unfolds its secrets to you or the hidden meaning of scriptures, Vedas and Vedntashine in your understanding, all doubts vanish, you acquire an insight into the abstruse meaning of the works on spiritual science even at their first glance, you acquire strange powers of oratory and feel not the need of approaching even Brahma, the creator himself, for knowledge and you acquire self-confidence, understand then that Kundalini the bestower of siddhis (occult powers) has come into action.

17. When seated for meditation your sight becomes fixed on the mid of eyebrows, your tongue rises up for Khechari, breath stops altogether and mind plunges into the ocean of bliss, shambhavi mudr operates and you experience the pleasure of savikalpa samdhi, know that subtle power of Kundalini is in action.

18. Self control has to do with a lot of these God-sent but evil manifestations.

The spirit of prophecy is subject to the prophets, is also a part of self control.

But to apply it to speaking is a problem because of so many of the teachings on our lack of control over the tongue. In terms of the NAR, the lack of volition in some of these animalistic outbursts during praise and worship is a sign that this person is not of God, and God is allowing them to manifest as a sign to anyone who understands the Bible enough to identify it.

Many fleecers peddle theological and spiritual poison. They bind Christ to the Almighty dollar bill and tie the gospel narrative to the riches and filthy lucre that they promise you is coming to you if only you became a Christian and gave them your seed offering.These  fleecers agree with Rodney Howard Browne’s assertion that it’s the duty of the pastors to fleece the sheep and that God alone can correct the pastors and no one else! The only people who get rich from any prosperity form of preaching is “the fleecers” – TV Evangelist and Preachers. The dumb sheep who give to these so called “anointed ones” remain poor and deceived because in the last one hundred years God never gave supernaturally billions of dollars to any of His people because they lack integrity and their lust would destroy them. And very few of the TV preachers in America have any integrity! But God’s word is unchanging:

They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord. 2 Peter 2:1-11

It’s is a fact that some of the greatest corruption and perversion today is found in the house of God amongst Christians, not pagans. Not only do we have pedophiles who are priests or pastors, but we have rapists and thieves who masquerade as men of God. We find that many Christian evangelists and other ministers did not care for individuals but rather for the building up of their own empire. They are more interested in selling their products to their sheep then ministering to the sheep.  The establishments of such ministers have become corrupt these days because the Babylonian system has pervaded their establishments. They have become money changers who create idol worshipers. The ministry of the Holy Ghost is perfect but the establishments through which they perform their ministries have become corrupt.

Many churches and ministries  have become money making business establishments whose pastors and evangelists use flattering words, and have a cloak of covetousness to seek their own best interest, not the best interest of the sheep. Their desire is to fleece the sheep, not to bless the sheep. They covet offerings from the sheep they are supposed to serve and tend for. Evangelists expect offerings of those people that have been blessed by their ministries. They make elaborate advertisements for their products and spend little time ministering effectively to the sheep. The pastors are mostly concerned about filling their own coffers than those of the sheep.

Many ministers give long sermons to their congregations and lead them in long worship services on Sundays. According to these ministers, ministry means giving messages, conducting worship services, extracting tithes and offerings, and praying for the sick in their churches. They forgot that  ministry means taking care of the sheep, ministering to the poor saints and widows and edifying the faith of the weak sheep during their trials and tribulations.

We have many preachers who are devoid of power preach the gospel in flowery languages and exhibit their oratory but not in the power of God. Oratory takes the place of the power of God. Gospel is preached from the church pulpits as a matter of routine, at times, mostly from texts already prepared.   In the churches of today, the glory of men rules the roost. Men with good family background or rich men are honored when commonplace people are shown the backseats. The churches do not call “poor saints” or evangelists with poor financial background for giving messages but prefer only “renowned” ones.

These days, we find the ministers of God covet “service” from the people whom they are supposed to serve. They boast that they had resigned from their secular jobs to serve God but expect offerings from the people whom they serve. They do not work with their own hands even in their own offices established by them for running their ministries. They want “service” from the staff working in their offices.   Recently,  a T.V. Evangelist USA preached a message of “prosperity” to his sheep.  He quoted Jesus’ words in Luke 4:18: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor…”.  This preacher replaced the word “gospel” with the word “prosperity” and preached that prosperity should be preached to the poor so that the poor may become rich. And then we have Evangelists who mainly preach on healing and miracles and not on cross-bearing and discipleship. The apostles during the New Testament period preached the gospel to the people with the result that the sick and the demon-possessed were delivered. They did not focus on healing and miracle ministries. But, miracles and signs followed them. They did not follow miracles and signs. God’s word is unchanging:

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.  For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.  But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” 2 Peter 2:20-22

There is an aspect of the prosperity gospel that keeps the minds of the people on the material and not the spiritual, and is leading many away from the truth, therefore causing many to focus on the things of the world and not the things of God! Do not be fooled by these false teachers my brethren, who by covetousness will exploit you with deceptive words ( 2 Peter 2:3)! This message applies to many pastors, TV ministers, evangelist, and preachers who are fleecing the flock. This is a word for you. And he said to them, it is written, my house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves (Matthew 21:13).

Stop preaching prosperity, and start confronting sin, and the need that all must repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!(Matthew 3:2 ) stop using scripture to fatten your pockets, and shepherd your church, because, thus says the lord God: behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my flock at their hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouths, that they no longer be food for them (Ezekiel 34:10) brethren, please wake up! And run from these ravenous wolves (Matthew 7:15)!

The coming of Jesus is on the horizon and the world is in chaos and yet the prosperity gospel is still being preached, especially by your TV evangelist. They are very cunning in imparting the sowing of seeds (money) into their messages (subtly) when the scripture that they are using does not pertain to money!! You may have been following them for years and they may seem charming to you, but remember the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9 ) today there are many ravenous lawless wolves not doing the will of the Father living lifestyles that you who struggle financially, support.

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! (Matthew 7:15)

For there are many who are following and are being deceived by false prophets and teachers :but there will be false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber (2 Peter 2:1-3 )

There is a famous pastor with a huge following, who absolutely does not preach the true gospel of Christ! People are blindly following a man who is tickling their itching ears and has turned them away from the true gospel of Christ ( 2 Timothy 4:3-4)   It was so sad to watch the congregation so fixed on every word that was spoken, but was not feeding their souls the true spiritual nourishment they needed. Only the true word of God can satisfy our souls. We cannot believe every spirit, but we must test the spirits, whether they are from God ( john 4:1 ) only in our time with God in prayer will He reveal this to his children, so that they are not deceived.

We need to understand what Jesus meant when he said: because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it (Matthew 7:14) many will not find it if they continue to follow these men/women blindly! Just because  a pastor or TV preacher has a huge following means that he is leading you to the kingdom. Spend quality time with God(father) Jesus(son) and the Holy Spirit each day, ask God for wisdom (James 1:5 ) so that you can discern and not follow them into darkness. Blessed is the man to whom the lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit (Psalm 32:2)

While false demonic preachers preach on how to get great material wealth by giving money to them, do you appreciate that Solomon got super super rich by an accident?
Yes he asked for wisdom to rule over god’s people and discern and give out justice, not money and god gave him much much more including a super abundance of wealth

Very few of today’s preachers and evangelists talk about the many Christians who are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame — who set their mind on earthly things. Rather many of them talk about how you can have all your earthly dreams and desires fulfilled in God and be a financially super rich successful Christian and not about how you can meet the  needs the spiritual and physical needs of the poor and needy brethren! They preach a gospel of self rather than the gospel of Christ.  They don’t preach on:

He claimed to have eaten gold leaves from the tree of life, he claimed that God sent oil from Heaven by way of his feet, and he stood on cloths and sold them for a donation (but it’s only free if you send him a generous contribution first), his wife claims their son was born covered in gold dust…and, remember the time that he said his water turned to wine? Now Mills is claiming that in a meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, during a super-uber anointed service, a lady saw Jesus standing above the congregation. He claims the lady saw Jesus with tears streaming down His face and His arms stretched out wide. He then says a drop of blood fell from Jesus’s forehead, and it fell into the congregation. He says he didn’t know this “vision” was going on – he didn’t find that out until later – but as coincidence would have it, he all of a sudden felt a drop of a warm liquid in his hand. Looking down, he saw a drop of blood from Jesus Christ Himself!

Gordon told about this specific lady went to a Toronto airport meeting recently  and had  so called gold dust stuck all over her body and it would not come off. Gordon made her repent for going there and prayed for her deliverance and it left!

Gordon said a dentist examined the so called gold teeth on 34 people including John Arnott and it turned out they were not gold on them but sulfur which is a chemical reaction on the teeth. The so called Jewels and stones that appear in the meetings are also a joke as they have no monetary value!

And he pointed out that 1 Corinthians 4 says all of these signs and wonders are wrong as they are not in the New Testament beyond what is written

Gordon also said all TV evangelists and ministries today are off the wall because they are all about money and money is the root of all evil and especially the food salesman Jim Bakker, adulterous Peter Youngren, the deceiving Benny Hinn.

David Yonggi Cho of Yoido full gospel church, the world largest Pentecostal church, has some serious problems.  Yonggi has been indicted on charges of breach of trust by prosecutors.  The indictment involves millions in misappropriated church money and additional charges of tax evasion.

Yonggi, 77, senior pastor at the church is suspected of breach of trust resulting in 10 billion won (us$9.2 million) in losses to his church. Also he is being investigated on suspicion of 6 billion won (us$5.52 million) in tax evasion.

Cho’s son, hee-jun, 48,the secretary general for the church, has already been taken into custody over the matter, which has shaken the religious community.

The bottom line is Third Wave preachers and fools and deceivers still get sick. They still die of cancer unhealed. Their marriages fall apart. They struggle with alcohol. They commit adultery. They are devoid of real honesty, integrity, truth and accountability. They run away from constructive biblical criticism, judgment and rebuke and throw false words around like “Judge Not!” Touch not my anointed” and “You are off the devil.” Their arrogance and snobbery stinks to high heaven! Their so called miracles and healing are not substantiated or documented in the news media!  They would like to have us believe that Jesus said:
“When I go away i will send the Holy Spirit who will cause you to twitch, shake, quake and behave like animals?”

They love to talk about “soaking” but there are negative sides to soaking that nobody talks about and the fact that many are simply losing their minds and are being put on psychotropic drugs because they are “bi-polar” or “schizophrenic” which completes the job of the devil totally stealing their minds. There are millions now ensnared by the powers of the Devil while many brainless pastors stand over them fanning them with their new gospel MANTRA of shouting, “more lord, more lord,” which shows people jerking, twitching, acting like animals; barking like dogs; mooing like cows; howling like hyenas’; clucking like chickens; laughing uncontrollably and even having imaginative sexual experiences on the carpets of churches. This insane, feel good gospel may be filling their churches sinful people but it is also filling it with hardcore devils and pay day is just around the corner – EMPTY CHURCHES and God’s judgment!

And then we have the “Carpet Time”! During the so called Revival conducted by Rodney Howard Browne, in 1993-94, in the now nonexistent defunct Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland Florida, many people spent “Carpet Time” on the floor. And what good did it produce them or anybody including Dan Strader who was robbing and raping the sheep with the help of his father Senior Pastor Karl Strader during the revival? None!

Few had heard of Rodney Howard-Browne before he led a series of revival meetings in Lakeland, Florida in 1993. A lot has happened since then; some of it is commendable, and some of it is reprehensible. In theory Browne came to America from South Africa to “revive” a largely sleeping church. He quickly got labeled as a Holy Ghost “bartender” because of the manifestations of “holy laughter” dominating his ministry. In his meetings he taught that no only it was the pastor’s job to fleece the sheep but only God was to judge pastors, not the (dumb) sheep! He also taught that thieves were to be blessed and rewarded, not judged for this is what Jesus would want them to do! He also taught that it was more important to give than to receive and spend a lot of time receiving offerings that he spent on himself and family members. Rodney learned about nepotism from his good friend Senior Pastor Karl Strader of Carpenter’s Home Church, Lakeland, Florida, for the bible stated:

1TM 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

South African Pentecostal Evangelist Rodney Howard-Browne, a white supremacist in theology, who immigrated with all his brothers and parents to United States became a naturalized American and taught that “sheep needed to be fleeced or they would have too much hair and could not see where they are going.. It was the pastor’s job to fleece the sheep had been credited with bringing the laughter revival to America. But from what really happened in Carpenter’s Home Church in 1993 and 1994 and its devastating effect on the community including the robbing, raping and murdering of the sheep, was not much of a revival.

Roy Aldrich, a retired school teacher, was robbed of $100,000.00 by Pastor Karl Strader and his son Dan Strader of Carpenter’s Home Church Lakeland, Florida. Rodney, who was a personal friend of Karl Strader who practiced nepotism, and bought him a Lincoln town car, was asked to help the elderly victims who were robbed by the Straders and he refused. But when German Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke’s decided to relocate his ministry to Florida, Rodney Howard-Browne decided he would give Bonnke a house. At first he offered Bonnke his own house in Tampa, but Bonnke had to locate in Orlando to be closer to his operational base. It was then that Howard-Browne decided to build Bonnke a new $250,000 home in Orlando. Rodney then drove a brand new car to Bonnke’s driveway.

How gracious and wonderful of Rodney to be a respecter of persons to the high and mighty and to ignore the real plight of the poor and needy?

Many Third Wave Pentecostals whose prophecies are false and are really ignorant of Scriptures like to spend “Carpet Time” and compete with each other as if it were some kind of a competition to see who is more spiritual than the other. None of them is “spiritual” in terms of the Holy Spirit but, being harassed and possessed with demons, they are satisfied with a so-called counterfeit “form of religion denying the power of it” (2 Tim. 3: 5). The rest of the verse says, “Avoid such people.” The Greek word means to “turn one’s self away”. And, if they do not turn away, they have nobody to blame but themselves. What they don’t realize is that if you are soaking yourself in bad teaching, a person will drown themselves to the point that they will lose their salvation or never be able to know the full life of Salvation and the real Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Fortunately, we have seen many of such people come for help and receive the exciting new life in Jesus Christ empowered by the Baptism of Holy Spirit. The uncontrolled shaking epileptic-like symptoms disappear immediately after we cast the demons out and is replaced with Fruit of the Spirit: “love, joy, peace,self-control, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5: 22 – 23). Soaking results in “spiritual drowning”!

The Holy Spirit is a person of Integrity and Rodney Howard Browne, Richard Roberts and Karl Strader are not only wolves in sheep’s Clothing but devoid of integrity. Rodney is known for teaching that the pastors must fleece and sheep and Richard was forced to resign as President of ORU for embezzlement of money. Rodney arrived in America penniless and became a multi millionaire without doing an honest day’s work. And the Roberts “seed faith” teaching is just a shrewd method to rob the poor and needy and make the Roberts rich!

Yes the so called Third Wave leaders who are also supposed to be Apostles, Prophets and men of God not only have no integrity but are liars, thieves, manipulators and scoundrels. Their leaders suffer from Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD)   in which a person is excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity, mentally unable to see the destructive damage they are causing to themselves and to others in the process and they include scoundrels Rodney Howard Browne, Richard Roberts, Stephen Strader, Todd Bentley, Bill Johnson, Benny Hinn and Patricia King. WHAT REVIVAL

JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE HEALING AND MIRACLES DOESN’T MEAN IT’S REVIVAL AS CLAIMED BY FOOLS IN THE THIRD WAVE? THAT IS PART OF NORMAL CHRISTIANITY!

These so-called revival meetings in Canada & the USA with outlandish claims of many have been saved, healed and delivered, confirmed by gold dust, gold teeth, jerking, animal noises and movements, and false prophecies have been total failures.  If people need healing then any Person who is Baptized with the Holy Spirit can pray for healing.  Plus we  have the Spiritual  Gifts of healing and miracles.  These people get off the  track when they think that they can do a so-called meetings that do not follow Paul’s instructions about what should happen in meetings (1 Cor. 12 – 14).  When we have a normal Christian Life led by the Holy Spirit, healings and miracles are all a part of what Jesus has planned for us. These Third Wave fools are false brethren and not real Christians!

One of the most common Bible verses used by people who claim we should not be critical or judge other believers is Matthew 7:1:

Do not judge, and you will not be judged ….

The Bible can be made to say pretty much anything someone wants it to say if it is taken out of context, so every Bible verse should be properly read in its context if we are to correctly understand it and “rightly divide the Word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Matthew 7:1 should therefore not be read or used in isolation from the surrounding verses which provide the context. Verses 2-5 clearly show that verse 1 is referring to hypocritical judgment

The lesson is clear: you should not judge others for their sin if you are guilty of the same sin. If Matthew 7:1 means do not judge at all, it would render what Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:16, together with much of what Paul wrote in his epistles, totally null and void. Much of what Paul wrote was to correct error that had arisen within the church; and Paul was not shy in naming specific people. The fact is that Paul used Scripture in exactly the way he advised Timothy it should be used. He used it for  doctrine, reproof, correction, for instruction in righteousness . Notice Paul places doctrine first and that  reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness can only come from right doctrine.

I would prefer the Beatitudes  step by step walk with Jesus which allows us to live the Sermon on the Mount.  Many of the Third Wave teaching are ego selfish building or should I say replacements for the New Testament.  False signs wonders & miracles are the result (Matt. 24: 24; Mk. 13: 22).

Anyway the so called Third Wave leaders who are also supposed to be Apostles, Prophets and men of God not only have no integrity but are liars, thieves, manipulators and scoundrels. Their leaders suffer from Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) in which a person is excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity, mentally unable to see the destructive damage they are causing to themselves and to others in the process and they include scoundrels Rodney Howard Browne, Richard Roberts, Stephen Strader, Todd Bentley, Bill Johnson, Benny Hinn and Patricia King. And let’s not forget Rick Joyner, Stacey Campbell, Dutch Sheets, and Peter C. Wagner).

SAVED FROM THE DECEPTION OF CHARISMANIA

God saved me, and brought me out of the Signs and Wonders Movement, after being involved in it for nearly twenty-two years; I am now twenty-three years of age and have been saved for about a year and a half. This is my testimony, and in writing this I pray that God would use this to save others out of the movement that I was so heavily involved in, and that above all else, Christ will be magnified and made much of!

I was born and raised in the “Prophetic Movement” (which is now in the process of morphing into the “New Apostolic Reformation”), and I grew up completely oblivious to what Biblical Christianity is meant to look like. Some of the leaders who had an influence on how I perceived what the church is to look like, have included John and Carol Arnott of the “Toronto Blessing”, Rodney Howard Browne of the “Brownsville Revival”, and others such as Kim Clement, Benny Hinn, Chris Harvey, Todd Bentley, Bob Jones, Randy Clark, Patricia King, Georgian Banov, Bobby Conners, Mike Bickle, Lou Engle, and Bill Johnson.

In the fall of 2002 I ended up moving to Redding, California to get “plugged-in” to Bethel Church, which Bill Johnson (a self-proclaimed “apostle”) oversees. It was here where I ended up jumping into and entertaining the supernatural phenomenon, signs and wonders, and mystical experiences (which were falsely attributed to God) in a much greater way then I did when I was a kid growing up. I soon got involved in the youth group, which was heavily influenced by Lou Engle who heads up “The Call” and Mike Bickle who heads up “IHOP” (International House Of Prayer). I later enrolled in Bethel’s School of Supernatural Ministry in 2006, and went through the whole three-year program. I was heavily engaged and supportive of many of the things, which were being taught and practiced. When Todd Bentley and his, “Lakeland Revival” began to take place, I jumped on board with that as well, and became a full supporter and advocate for it. I was gladfully defending it against all the, “Religious Pharisees” (or so I called them at the time). It was also at this time that I noticed the, “Toking the Ghost” movement and became a “Toker” myself, and a full supporter of John Crowder and Ben Dunn.

However, when Todd Bentley’s affair was made public (August ’08), I ended up becoming grieved by what happened and by the poor response that was to follow. Shortly after the crash of the “Lakeland Revival” I received some severe rebukes for being involved with John Crowder’s and Ben Dunn’s “Toking Mania”, and so I withdrew myself from this aspect of the chaos. It was also at this time, while I was in my third year internship with Bethel, that I was starting to notice that things didn’t line up and I began to question the legitimacy of the Prophetic Movement.

First off, before I share my testimony of how God saved me and brought me out of this movement, I want to explain why I believe that Bethel is a cult, and not just on the charismatic fringe. Labeling someone or a group a “cult” is not a thing to take lightly and so I hope to explain why I believe this to be true with the Word of God. The following statements are examples of the beliefs and practices of Bethel, their school of supernatural ministry, and other ministries who they consider to be their friends and partners in revival. I will not be able to share everything that I was involved with, but in sharing some things I hope to bring some awareness to the dangers that this movement possesses, and bring encouragement to those of you who are praying for friends and loved ones who are entangled in this deception.

TO THE GLORIOUS PRAISE OF MAN AND A STRANGE FORM OF SINLESS PERFECTIONISM

Bethel has a really high view of man, and is extremely man centered. My understanding after being involved with Bethel for almost seven years, and after going through three years of their school of ministry is that they teach that man is basically free to choose good or evil, and that man isn’t all that bad. They would teach that man, prior to coming to Christ is a sinner, but even though he is a sinner he isn’t all that wicked. They would teach that if you pay your bills, don’t cheat on your taxes, and love your family that you are a good person. The leadership at Bethel is quick to impress this into the students who go to the School of Supernatural Ministry in the very beginning of their schooling. Kris Vallotton (a self-proclaimed “prophet”), who is Bill Johnson’s right hand man, would be quick to tell the students how amazing they are, and that they are not wretches or all that bad. It is taught that you are a child of God (which is true for those who are saved), so (by their definition) that means you are “royalty”, “amazing”, “kings” and “queens” so how can you be a wretch? But the Scriptures say otherwise concerning the “goodness” of man. The Word of God says that all of man’s righteousness is like a filthy rag useless for anything at all. Isaiah 64:6 “We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.” This is to say that all of our own efforts of “goodness” amount to disgusting garbage in the sight of God. The Apostle Paul wrote concerning men and their sinfulness. Romans 3:10-18 ““None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouth is full curses and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.””  Paul further writes Romans 8:7-8, “For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law, indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”  (More Scriptures concerning man’s total depravity: Gen 6:5, Ps 14:1-3, Ps 51:5, Jer 17:9, Ro 5:10-12, Eph 2:1-3) The Scriptures makes it clear that men are born with a sinful nature, and commit sin by nature and choice. Man is not good for the most part, with some sin, but rather man is totally corrupt and in love with his sin, and does not wish to part from his sin. For  “no one does good, not even one.” men are naturally “hostile to God” and have a “heart of stone”(Ezekiel 36:26), nor do they naturally seek for God. People are not waiting to hear about the wonderful plan that Jesus has for their life, for they hate Him and are not submissive to Him (John 15:18-25). It is not until God does a saving work in the sinner’s life, (Jon 2:9, Jn 1:12-13, Jn 3:3-8, Jn 6:37, Jn 6:44, Jn 10:25-30, Ro 8:28-30, Ro 9, Tit 3:5) that the person is able and willing to seek for, submit to, and treasure God.

It is also taught at Bethel that once you become a Christian you are no longer a sinner. One of their “key verses” for this is taken from Romans 6:11 “So you also must consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Kris Vallotton would take this and say that since you are “dead to sin” you are no longer a sinner. But the context of “consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” means that we are no longer enslaved to sin, to fulfill its lusts and desires, that it is no longer the thing that drives us, it is not that we are no longer sinners. Now, the leadership at Bethel does not teach that a Christian can’t sin, but rather they teach that if a Christian does sin it does not make him a sinner. In other-words (they would teach), if a Christian does sin it is because they believed a lie that they still struggle with sin. Are Christians still sinners?  If we were to look at 1 John 1:8-10 “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” Scripture tells us we are sinners because, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”  If we claim to be sinless we lie and do not have the truth in us, or in other-words if someone was to truly believe that they are sinless then they are not truly saved.

John writes to those who have made a profession of Christ (1 John 5:13) in an effort to assure them of their salvation. John does not write to non-believers as Mr. Vallotton suggests, therefore, he is guilty of allowing his presuppositions concerning sin and salvation to misleadingly guide his interpretation down an avenue that the apostle never imagined.]

SHAKE -N-BAKE WITH A SIDE OF KUNDALINI

Among one of the more common and heavily embraced practices would be that of getting “drunk in the Spirit”. This is where you lay hands on each other, pray for each other, or ask the Lord to get you “hammered”, in which people (including myself) would have experienced spiritual bliss, joy, and ecstasies. People would react differently to these experiences, some would fall down and not be able to stand, others would stumble around as if heavily intoxicated with alcohol, some would shake violently, and others would experience the blissful side of this but not necessarily exert any physical manifestations. Although, I do not doubt that their are those who would “fake” being drunk (I did this at times), this does not exclude the reality that people regularly experience spiritual highs when practicing this. One of the main “proof” texts for this is taken from Acts 2:1-15. “But others mocking said, “they are filled with new wine.””(vs. 13) and “These people are not drunk as you suppose”(vs. 15a) The defense for “getting drunk in the spirit” is that they were “drunk”, so they were drunk in the Holy Spirit (aka: falling down, laughing, twitching, and shaking), because people thought that they were drunk, and that is how drunk people act. But if we were to look at the text a little bit closer we would see clearly why they thought that they were drunk. We read in verses 1 -13, “When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing him speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians – we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “what does this mean?” But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”” There were those who thought that the disciples were drunk because they were speaking in tongues (foreign languages and dialects unknown to the speakers) “Telling the mighty works of God.” It was because of this that people thought that they were drunk. There is nothing about shaking and baking in the text at all!

These drunken manifestations that are experienced within the Prophetic Movement are identical to that of Kundalini. Kundalini is a practice found in New Age groups as well as eastern mysticism. These practices would include physical manifestations, such as jerking and shaking, and feelings of heat, energy, and pleasure. There is absolutely nothing in the Scriptures that even come close to supporting this practice at all! With this it is safe to say that getting drunk in the spirit is a counterfeit experience. The Scriptures warn us that people will turn away from the Truth and follow what is false: 2 Timothy 4:3-4 “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teachings, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”

WHEN SOLA SCRIPTURA IS NOT ENOUGH

Another common practice is for people to hear the Lord “speak to them prophetically”. In this movement and at Bethel in particular it is taught that the Lord is always and continually speaking to you (apart from the Scriptures), and all you have to do is “tune” in to the right station (like an FM/AM radio) to be able to hear from the Lord. Some of the different ways that they teach that you can hear from the Lord would include: audibly, open visions, angels, the inner-audible-voice (where you hear the Lord speak audibly inside of you, rather than on the outside), the still small voice (like that of a faint whisper), feelings (where you “feel” what the Lord is saying to you), and dreams. (however, compare that with Hebrews 1:1-2) They would say that all prophecy is for edification, exhortation, and comfort and that when you give someone a prophecy, you are doing so to encourage them and to help build them up. For Example: you would receive a prophetic “download” about someone and prophecy over them by telling them something that may sound like this, “The Lord really likes how you like numbers, so I feel like you have a grace on your life to be an accountant.”  This is something that if you were to ask the leadership at Bethel about, or anyone who has been apart of Bethel for any length of time, that they would testify too.

This “continual speaking” also embarks into the arena of authoritative new revelations, or extra Biblical revelations. It is believed and taught at Bethel that the Lord is revealing new truths apart from what has already been revealed to us in the Scriptures. Bill Johnson has said, “The Lord wants to give revelation at a measure that has never, I don’t think has ever happened in the world before. The spirit of revelation is being released upon the church, but I’ll, let me tell you one of the things that makes room for the spirit of revelation to come, it’s the fact that we are willing to embrace mystery.” Here is a link to a video clip where you will hear Bill say this, and as well hear him expand on it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pfa_kj1NUk). For an actual example of extra Biblical revelation: Bethel recently had Cindy Jacobs (who is a self-proclaimed “prophetess”) come to Bethel on 09-01-10, which she gave a “prophetic word” over Bethel, about Bethel building buildings, being an apostolic center, and taking the media mountain (the “mountain” concept will be explained in the section “At The Root Of It All”). Here is a portion of Cindy Jacob’s  “prophecy” over Bethel.“The apostolic team here will have to pray over this and unpack it and see what it will look like. There might be other buildings in-between and other ways. In order to do what you’re going to do, you are going to need a lot of buildings. Because the Lord says, “I am getting ready to build this apostolic network and many people are going to come and say, “I need to join.” And I am going to show you how to do this organically but yet put structure to it.” The Lord says, “do not fear to step out and do that. My people need a home and a place. I have put a heart in many that have the DNA of revival and healing and revivalists and miracles…. where will they find a resting place? While I was involved in the Prophetic Movement it was my experience that many people (yet not all) didn’t bother to read their Bibles on a regular basis, which was also the case for me. From what I observed I believe this was the case because it is believed that we need fresh words from the Lord, and the Written Word of God is not enough, and it is believed that you can’t walk in the fullness of your relationship with the Lord using the Scriptures alone.

The Scriptures do teach us that the Word of God is sufficient, 2 Timothy shows us of the sufficiency of Scriptures, that the Scriptures are enough, we do not need new revelation. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” The Scriptures are enough that one may be “competent, equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 4:2-4 “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teachings, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”

    2 Peter 1:16-21 “For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. . [Peter is referring to his experience on the Mt. of Transfiguration (with James and John) when Jesus was transfigured and Moses and Elijah appeared] And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, [The exact meaning of “prophetic word” is described in verse 20 as “Prophecy of Scripture”.] to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” What the Apostle Peter is saying is that they have received something even “more sure” than the audible voice of God, transfiguration of Jesus, and appearance of Moses and Elijah… The Word of God! Scripture is enough and there is no need for new revelations whatsoever!

My night at the Randy Clark Healing and Impartation Conference with Bill Johnson

So last night, myself and 2 friends went to a Bethel event at our local Civic Center here in Redding, Ca. It was called the “Randy Clark School of Healing and Impartation”, or something like that. First off, when we got there, we walked around and checked out the books and what-not, we walked around and just checked things out. I must say, the people are very very nice, I don’t doubt their sincerity. A couple of the songs were focused on getting the “Spirit in you” and then they actually sang an older Newsboys song, which I knew!

Then, once the music stopped, it all started to go downhill from there. Bill came out and told people about how he thought if we gave money now, that when we get to heaven, we’d get to hear about how our sacrifice helped somebody while we were on earth. It was very very man-centered and he missed the point of giving by a mile.

Next Randy Clark came out and well, basically told a bunch of stories. Words cannot describe what it was that he said because it was all a bunch of nonsense. I did manage to record some of it on my phone, but I haven’t uploaded it yet.

One of the things we bought, for research, was a 2 sided paper that had instructions on how to approach somebody for healing, word of knowledge, etc. It is, by far, the worst theological train-wreck I’ve ever seen. I’ve been making the case that they are enemies of the True Gospel and that they believe experience trumps the Word of God, well, this card backs all that up. They actually tell you to NOT PREACH to people when trying to heal them. It was atrocious. I may try to scan it somehow, but now sure how to do that exactly.

In a nutshell, from what I heard, it was sad. Continual new “revelation”, which trumped Scripture and was extremely man centered. I’m more and more convinced that those involved in this movement are borderline cultic. Again, nice, sincere people, but I believe that they are mostly believing a “different gospel” and it’s one that will send people straight to hell. I did come away a little discouraged as I did try to get the Gospel out of one gal and she really didn’t know much about it other than the healing part.  When we add something to the finished work of the Gospel ie: health wealth etc, then we are believing a different gospel as warned about in Galatians 1. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will convict the leaders of this false movement such as Bill, Randy Clark and Kris Vallotton etc. of their false teachings and they will be saved.
