GOLD DUST

HAJoshua Mills with supernatural gold dust in high quality

Why do you not see that this is DEMONIC THIRD WAVE CHURCH? Joshua Mills along with so many others in the Charismatic Church are being used to deceive millions. He claimed to have eaten gold leaves from the tree of life, he claimed that God sent oil from Heaven by way of his feet, and he stood on cloths and sold them for a donation (but it’s only free if you send him a generous contribution first), his wife claims their son was born covered in gold dust…and, remember the time that he said his water turned to wine? He was in his hotel room when it happened, of course. Now Mills is claiming that in a meeting in Auckland, New Zealand, during a super-uber anointed service, a lady saw Jesus standing above the congregation. He claims the lady saw Jesus with tears streaming down His face and His arms stretched out wide. He then says a drop of blood fell from Jesus’s forehead, and it fell into the congregation. He says he didn’t know this “vision” was going on – he didn’t find that out until later – but as coincidence would have it, he all of a sudden felt a drop of a warm liquid in his hand. Looking down, he saw a drop of blood from Jesus Christ Himself!

GOLD TEETH AND DUST AND FEATHERS

One Saturday night in Hamilton, Ontario, Canadian Evangelist/Pastor Gordon Williams  of Toronto http://gordwilliams.com/  said  much about GOLD TEETH AND DUST AND FEATHERS  phenomenon  in the demonic Third Wave  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ya1sOM_5L0

Gordon told about this specific lady went to a Toronto airport meeting recently  and had  so called gold dust stuck all over her body and it would not come off. Gordon made her repent for going there and prayed for her deliverance and it left!

Gordon said a dentist examined the so called gold teeth on 34 people including John Arnott and it turned out they were not gold on them but sulfur which is a chemical reaction on the teeth. The so called Jewels and stones that appear in the meetings are also a joke as they have no monetary value!

And he pointed out that 1 Corinthians 4 says all of these signs and wonders are wrong as they are not in the New Testament beyond what is written
1 Corinthians 4: 6 now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.

Gordon also said all TV evangelists and ministries today are off the wall because they are all about money and money is the root of all evil and especially the food salesman Jim Bakker, adulterous Peter Youngren, the deceiving Benny Hinn.

GORDON ALSO POINTED OUT THAT ALL THESE TV EVANGELISTS ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO NO ONE BUT THEMSELVES OR THEIR HAND PICKED BOARD. He said people were to stay away from Third Wave events and stop trusting any TV evangelist or preacher!

It’s true Reinhardt Bonnke and Heidi baker together have won millions of Africans who were once upon a time Muslims to Christ  see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w46yjc7xgvk

Gordon speaking about the love of money being the root of all evil  was also criticizing  David Yonggi Cho  and his recent arrest

David Yonggi Cho of Yoido full gospel church, the world largest Pentecostal church, has some serious problems.  Yonggi has been indicted on charges of breach of trust by prosecutors.  The indictment involves millions in misappropriated church money and additional charges of tax evasion.

Yonggi, 77, senior pastor at the church is suspected of breach of trust resulting in 10 billion won (us$9.2 million) in losses to his church. Also he is being investigated on suspicion of 6 billion won (us$5.52 million) in tax evasion.

Cho’s son, hee-jun, 48,the secretary general for the church, has already been taken into custody over the matter, which has shaken the religious community.

The bottom line is Third Wave preachers and fools and deceivers still get sick. They still die of cancer unhealed. Their marriages fall apart. They struggle with alcohol. They commit adultery. They are devoid of real honesty, integrity, truth and accountability. They run away from constructive biblical criticism, judgment and rebuke and throw false words around like “Judge Not!” Touch not my anointed” and “You are off the devil.” Their arrogance and snobbery stinks to high heaven! Their so called miracles and healing are not substantiated or documented in the news media!  They would like to have us believe that Jesus said:
“When I go away i will send the Holy Spirit who will cause you to twitch, shake, quake and behave like animals?”

They love to talk about “soaking” but there are negative sides to soaking that nobody talks about and the fact that many are simply losing their minds and are being put on psychotropic drugs because they are “bi-polar” or “schizophrenic” which completes the job of the devil totally stealing their minds. There are millions now ensnared by the powers of the Devil while many brainless pastors stand over them fanning them with their new gospel MANTRA of shouting, “more lord, more lord,” which shows people jerking, twitching, acting like animals; barking like dogs; mooing like cows; howling like hyenas’; clucking like chickens; laughing uncontrollably and even having imaginative sexual experiences on the carpets of churches. This insane, feel good gospel may be filling their churches sinful people but it is also filling it with hardcore devils and pay day is just around the corner – EMPTY CHURCHES and God’s judgment!

And then we have the “Carpet Time”! During the so called Revival conducted by Rodney Howard Browne, in 1993-94, in the now nonexistent defunct Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland Florida, many people spent “Carpet Time” on the floor. And what good did it produce them or anybody including Dan Strader who was robbing and raping the sheep with the help of his father Senior Pastor Karl Strader during the revival? None!

Few had heard of Rodney Howard-Browne before he led a series of revival meetings in Lakeland, Florida in 1993. A lot has happened since then; some of it is commendable, and some of it is reprehensible. In theory Browne came to America from South Africa to “revive” a largely sleeping church. He quickly got labeled as a Holy Ghost “bartender” because of the manifestations of “holy laughter” dominating his ministry. In his meetings he taught that no only it was the pastor’s job to fleece the sheep but only God was to judge pastors, not the (dumb) sheep! He also taught that thieves were to be blessed and rewarded, not judged for this is what Jesus would want them to do! He also taught that it was more important to give than to receive and spend a lot of time receiving offerings that he spent on himself and family members. Rodney learned about nepotism from his good friend Senior Pastor Karl Strader of Carpenter’s Home Church, Lakeland, Florida, for the bible stated:

1TM 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

South African Pentecostal Evangelist Rodney Howard-Browne, a white supremacist in theology, who immigrated with all his brothers and parents to United States became a naturalized American and taught that “sheep needed to be fleeced or they would have too much hair and could not see where they are going.. It was the pastor’s job to fleece the sheep had been credited with bringing the laughter revival to America. But from what really happened in Carpenter’s Home Church in 1993 and 1994 and its devastating effect on the community including the robbing, raping and murdering of the sheep, was not much of a revival.

Roy Aldrich, a retired school teacher, was robbed of $100,000.00 by Pastor Karl Strader and his son Dan Strader of Carpenter’s Home Church Lakeland, Florida. Rodney, who was a personal friend of Karl Strader who practiced nepotism, and bought him a Lincoln town car, was asked to help the elderly victims who were robbed by the Straders and he refused. But when German Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke’s decided to relocate his ministry to Florida, Rodney Howard-Browne decided he would give Bonnke a house. At first he offered Bonnke his own house in Tampa, but Bonnke had to locate in Orlando to be closer to his operational base. It was then that Howard-Browne decided to build Bonnke a new $250,000 home in Orlando. Rodney then drove a brand new car to Bonnke’s driveway.

How gracious and wonderful of Rodney to be a respecter of persons to the high and mighty and to ignore the real plight of the poor and needy?

Many Third Wave Pentecostals whose prophecies are false and are really ignorant of Scriptures like to spend “Carpet Time” and compete with each other as if it were some kind of a competition to see who is more spiritual than the other. None of them is “spiritual” in terms of the Holy Spirit but, being harassed and possessed with demons, they are satisfied with a so-called counterfeit “form of religion denying the power of it” (2 Tim. 3: 5). The rest of the verse says, “Avoid such people.” The Greek word means to “turn one’s self away”. And, if they do not turn away, they have nobody to blame but themselves. What they don’t realize is that if you are soaking yourself in bad teaching, a person will drown themselves to the point that they will lose their salvation or never be able to know the full life of Salvation and the real Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Fortunately, we have seen many of such people come for help and receive the exciting new life in Jesus Christ empowered by the Baptism of Holy Spirit. The uncontrolled shaking epileptic-like symptoms disappear immediately after we cast the demons out and is replaced with Fruit of the Spirit: “love, joy, peace,self-control, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5: 22 – 23). Soaking results in “spiritual drowning”!

The Holy Spirit is a person of Integrity and Rodney Howard Browne, Richard Roberts and Karl Strader are not only wolves in sheep’s Clothing but devoid of integrity. Rodney is known for teaching that the pastors must fleece and sheep and Richard was forced to resign as President of ORU for embezzlement of money. Rodney arrived in America penniless and became a multi millionaire without doing an honest day’s work. And the Roberts “seed faith” teaching is just a shrewd method to rob the poor and needy and make the Roberts rich!

Yes the so called Third Wave leaders who are also supposed to be Apostles, Prophets and men of God not only have no integrity but are liars, thieves, manipulators and scoundrels. Their leaders suffer from Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD)   in which a person is excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity, mentally unable to see the destructive damage they are causing to themselves and to others in the process and they include scoundrels Rodney Howard Browne, Richard Roberts, Stephen Strader, Todd Bentley, Bill Johnson, Benny Hinn and Patricia King. And let’s not forget Rick Joyner, Stacey Campbell, Dutch Sheets, and Peter C. Wagner).

POOR BLIND AND NAKED

ACJESUS TOLD BLIND IGNORANT DEMONIZED CHRISTIANS THAT THEY WERE WRETCHED, MISERABLE, POOR, BLIND AND NAKED AND NEEDED TO BE ZEALOUS AND REPENT

REVELATIONS 3:14    “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God:
15    “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
16    So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
17    Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ — and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked —
18    I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
19    As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
20    Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
21    To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
22    “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ‘ ”

OFF THE WALL

money in the hand of businessman6 Really Bad Charismatic Doctrines We Should Retire

10:00AM EDT 5/7/2014    J. Lee Grady

I will never apologize for being a charismatic Christian. I had a dramatic experience with the Holy Spirit many years ago, and nobody can talk me out of it. I love the Holy Spirit’s abiding presence in my life and His supernatural gifts. I love to prophesy, speak in tongues, pray for the sick and see people changed by the Spirit’s power.

At the same time, I’m aware that since the charismatic movement began in the 1960s, people have misused the gifts of the Spirit and twisted God’s Word to promote strange doctrines or practices. Seeing these errors never caused me to question the authenticity of what the Holy Spirit had done in my life. But I knew I had to stay true to God’s Word and reject any false teachings I encountered.

My simple rule is based on 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22: “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil” (NASB). In other words: Eat the meat and spit out the bones.

As I have traveled throughout the body of Christ in recent years, I’ve experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. I love God’s people, and I know there is a healthy remnant of Spirit-filled churches that are striving to stay grounded in biblical truth. But I also know we have reached a crossroads. We must clean up our act. We must jettison any weird doctrines we might have believed or practiced that are hindering our growth today.

Here are a few of the worst errors that have circulated in our movement in the past season. You may have others that need to be added to this list. I believe we are grieving the Holy Spirit if we continue to practice these things:

1. “Touch not My anointed.” Chances are you’ve heard this weird doctrine based on 1 Chronicles 16:22. In an attempt to discourage any form of disagreement in the church, insecure leaders tell their members that if they ever question church authority, they are “touching the Lord’s anointed” and in danger of God’s judgment. Let’s call this what it is: spiritual manipulation. It creates worse problems by ruling out healthy discussion and mutual respect. Church members end up being abused or controlled—or even blacklisted because they dare to ask a question.

2. Dual covenant. We charismatics love and respect Israel. Some of us even incorporate Jewish practices in our worship—such as wearing prayer shawls, blowing shofars or celebrating Hebraic feasts. These things can enrich our Christian experience—but some leaders go too far when they begin to teach that Jews don’t need to believe in Jesus Christ to experience salvation. They imply that Jews have special access into heaven simply because of their ethnic heritage. This is a flagrant contradiction of everything the New Testament teaches.

3. Inaccessible leadership. In the 1980s, some charismatic ministries began to teach pastors and traveling ministers that in order to “protect the anointing,” they must stay aloof from people. Ministers were warned to never make friends in their congregations. Preachers began the strange practice of skipping worship on Sunday mornings—and then appearing on the stage only when it was time for the sermon in order to make a dramatic entrance. Shame on these people for attempting to justify arrogance. Jesus loved people, and He made Himself available to them. So should we.

4. Armor-bearers. The same guys who developed item No. 3 started this strange fad. Preachers began the practice of surrounding themselves with an entourage: one person to carry the briefcase, another person to carry the Bible, another to carry the handkerchief. Some preachers hired bodyguards … and even food-tasters! The armor-bearers were promised special blessings if they served preachers who acted like slave-owners. Reminder: True leaders are servants, not egomaniacs.

5. The hundredfold return. Before his death in 2003, Kenneth Hagin Sr., the father of the faith movement, rebuked his own followers for taking prosperity teaching to a silly extreme. In his book The Midas Touch, he begged preachers to stop misusing Mark 10:28-30 to suggest that God promises a hundredfold return on every offering we give. Hagin wrote, “If the hundredfold return worked literally and mathematically for everyone who gave in an offering, we would have Christians walking around with not billions or trillions of dollars, but quadrillions of dollars!” Hagin taught that the hundredfold blessing refers to the rewards that come to those who leave all they have to serve God in ministry.

6. Money cometh. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for giving money publicly to be seen by others. Yet in the 1990s, some charismatics got the wild idea that God would release a magical blessing if we would drop wads of dollar bills at the preacher’s feet while he was in the middle of his sermon. Leroy Thompson of Louisiana popularized this flamboyant practice with his infamous 1996 sermon, in which he encouraged people to shout in King James English, “Money! Cometh to me now!” Then the people would run to the front of the auditorium to pour cash into his coffers. The money came, for sure, and more cash-hungry preachers jumped on the bandwagon. Taking an offering became a form of exhibitionism, and Christians began viewing their offerings like lottery scratch-offs.

God requires holiness not just in our behavior but also in our doctrine. Let’s discard these and any other foolish teachings that have brought confusion and dishonor to the body of Christ.

2014 THE YEAR OF ENEMIES IN MEGA CHURCHES

Carpenter’s Home Church, the original mega dream church of Assembly of God Pastor and Board of Directors of Oral Roberts member Karl Strader, is an albatross and now the problem of Randy White, founder and leader of Without Walls International Church, It’s a battle that indirectly pits the pastor,  against his former wife, Paula White, who left the church about 2 years ago.

Christian News Today reported that South African Pentecostal Evangelist Rodney Howard-Browne who became a naturalized American and taught that “sheep needed to be fleeced or they would have too much hair and could not see where they are going. It was the pastor’s job to fleece the sheep “will hold a ten year revival reunion on November 22, 2003 at Carpenter’s Home Church, Lakeland, Florida! But Rodney is still leery of senior Pastor Karl Strader who according to former Pastor Jack Collins skimmed money from Rodney’s offerings!

Dr. Rodney Howard- Browne had been credited with bringing the laughter revival to America. But from what really happened in Carpenter’s Home Church in 1993 and 1994 and its devastating effect on the community including the robbing, raping and murdering of the sheep, was not much of a revival.

The leadership of the Assembly of God denomination both in Lakeland and Missouri also would not accept the testimony of one of its members Roy Aldrich that he was robbed and raped by money changers and wolves in sheep’s clothing in Carpenter’s Home Church during the so called “revival”. But the State of Florida who cared about justice, righteousness and truth accepted the words and testimony of Roy Aldrich about the Straders.

The Florida State prosecutors proved their case and convinced the jurors that Dan Strader, the son of the senior pastor Karl Strader, devised an elaborate scheme to attract cash in the real-estate and mortgage investments. He was selling the securities without a license and that the securities were unregistered. This was done in an organized method amounting to Racketeer-Influence and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO Act.

Daniel, 37, was sentenced to 45 years in prison in August 1995. He was convicted of 238 felony counts for bilking 57 mostly elderly investors, some members of the church, out of $2.3 million by selling investments in properties that didn’t exist or already had liens against them. Others who were involved along with Dan Strader were not pursed by the State of Florida as they felt that the conviction of Daniel Strader was a good example for others to take notice.

Dr Rodney Howard Browne used his influence and powers to raise money at Carpenter’s Home Church to buy the senior pastor Karl Strader his much needed second Lincoln Town Car. But when Rodney was requested to use his influence and power to raise money for the unfortunate elderly victims of Dan’s Strader, he refused.

The problem with lying and thieving preachers in America is that they all preach to others but never listen to others. They are after all better than their sheep?  Someone should tell some of these preachers who said I was demon possessed and needed to get a life because I don’t do what they did, that robbing and raping the money and well being of the sheep under their care is not just a “white collar crime.” They should read their own bible that they talk so much about and see what God said to Eli and his raping and thieving sons:

Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Did I not clearly reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house?  ‘Did I not choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be My priest, to offer upon My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod before Me? And did I not give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire? ‘Why do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling place, and honor your sons more than Me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel My people?’  “Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the LORD says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed. 1 Samuel 2:27-30

Dr. Randy White, the powerhouse founder and Senior Pastor of Without Walls International Church (WWIC), suffered his first major setback after getting involved with deceiving and treacherous Pastor  Karl Strader whose son is serving a 45 year jail sentence for crimes he committed with the help of his father. Calling it “very disappointing,” officials of a large Pentecostal church in Tampa, Fla., said they have failed to reach a deal to buy what was once one of the largest churches in the world, reported Charisma News Services. Randy, who drives a Cadillac Escalade and the side is emblazoned with “Big Daddy,” and friends had tried buying off the Straders with money collected from the offerings including about $12,000 of which they earmarked as gifts to Strader, but to no avail! Hence Without Walls International Church (WWIC), a 14,000-strong, nondenominational urban congregation, concluded a 10-month arrangement May 31 with Carpenter’s Home Church (CHC), ending its Saturday night worship services and closing off negotiations to buy the 10,000-seat sanctuary, “The Lakeland Ledger” reported.

Located in suburban Lakeland, about 45 minutes east of Tampa, CHC is affiliated with the Assemblies of God. Failure to agree on a price nixed the sale. WWIC associate pastor Jennifer Mallan said the figures were confidential, but the two sides were “a couple of million dollars” apart, the newspaper reported.

“Everyone involved really tried to make it work,” she said. “We don’t fault anyone … They had a price and they weren’t going to lower it. We respect that … but we are very disappointed. We felt it was a God thing.”

The name Strader carries weight in charismatic circles. Strader, 72, has been pastor of Carpenters Home for 35 years and has ministered at various churches nationwide. A Pentecostal church under the Assemblies of God denomination, Carpenters Home has owned radio stations, hosted concerts and conferences featuring big names in Christianity, such as evangelist Rodney Howard-Browne, gospel singer CeCe Winans and Christian music artists Jars of Clay and Michael W. Smith reported the St. Petersburg Times.

But the past 15 years have also carried controversy. Some Assemblies of God leaders, including televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, have publicly questioned Strader’s theological teachings, according to the Lakeland Ledger.

“We’ve been to hell and back,” Strader said during a recent church service. About 800 of Strader’s members left to form their own church in 1989, after a dispute over his leadership.

Then in 1994, Strader’s son, Daniel, was arrested on fraud charges. He was convicted the next year and is serving a 45-year sentence in federal prison. A small number of fraud victims were members of the church, causing further tension. Strader said he believed his son was innocent and was treated unfairly by the system. But his son’s appeals have been denied. Strader asked members of Without Walls to pray for his son’s release, saying seven years behind bars was enough for a “white collar crime.”

At one time membership rolls swelled to about 5,000. Strader and a jubilant congregation had the 10,000-seat auditorium built, believing that in time it would be filled to capacity. Instead, attendance dwindled. (Published the St. Petersburg Times August 12, 2002)

Carpenter’s Home Finances

In our local news recently is a report that the Carpenter’s Home Church, under the leadership of Karl Strader, will be sold.

I wish The Ledger would investigate and publish the finances of this deal. The Carpenter’s Home Church started out as an Assembly of God church before Karl Strader took control.

I have relatives who were members of that church since the 1940s, and they helped pay for it.

I have visited often in the past and heard many of Rev. Strader’s sermons. I was puzzled why he often said in his sermons that anyone who disagreed with him should not make a fuss, just walk out the back door and leave.

His congregation has now dwindled down and he is left with a multimillion dollar facility.

My relatives left after Rev. Strader became a more-autocratic minister, there were questions about his family being given jobs at the church and his son was convicted of defrauding church members (mostly elderly ones) out of their life savings.

It seems to me part of the problem is that the Assembly of God denomination allows ministers to preside over board meetings instead of a church member, as in other more democratically operated Protestant churches.

Nonetheless, it was good Assembly of God people who paid for that Carpenter’s Home Church property, and any benefits from the sale should go to the Assembly of God denomination.

The question before the public is, will it?

TRAVIS EPSHIRE

Roy Aldrich, an innocent retired school teacher, who was robbed of a 100,000 by Dan and Karl Strader, knew that Karl Strader was an enemy of good men. In January, 1995 in regard to Pastor Karl Strader Sunday sermon on Enemies‘, Roy Aldrich made the following remarks:

I would like to join the ranks of those who Karl Straders counts as his “enemies.” by the following statements:
1)    I am the enemy of lying and deception which hurts and robs people.
2)   I am the enemy of those who practice cruelty in the administration of any corporation, especially churches.
3)    I am the enemy of any minister who allows the use of his pulpit for personal vendettas.
4)    I am the enemy of any minister who uses his pulpit for soliciting public and personal sympathy over controversial matters involving his family.
5)    I am the enemy of every minister in the world whose sense of right and wrong is based on nepotism and favoritism.
6)    I am the enemy of the policy of Karl Strader who raised $52,000.00  for Dan’s defense fund and $58,000.00 for repairing a roof and not one dime for his son’s elderly and devastated victims.
7)    I am the enemy of the disrespect represented in the Strader attitude towards the State Attorney and Judge Robert Doyel, a true servant of God.
8)    I am the enemy of the policies of secret salaries which conceal huge benefits flowing from trusting church members to their leaders- salaries which provide sumptuous life styles, while at the same time, these same leaders are firing and traumatizing the “little people” under their care like Cindy Deaton, Patricia Aldrich, Jack and Betty Collins.
9)    I am the enemy of huge personal gain to Karl Strader and Joe Perez derived from their secret management fees from the CHC Life Center Retirement Estates.
10)    I am the enemy of the thinking that some claimed “anointing”  or supposed special privilege with God gives anyone the right to turn a Christian church into their own personal “cash-cow.”
11)    I am the enemy of the thinking expressed in the attached sermon outline which implies that the welfare of CHC is determined by any one man or family. We are supposed to worship Christ, and not the Straders.
12)     I am the enemy of any minister who uses his oratorical ability to rally church audiences into cheerleading and other emotional excess as a device to shore up a crumbling personal empire.
13)   I am an enemy of any organization that suggests opposing the leader’s lifestyle and words is opposing God.

Senior Pastor Karl Strader of Carpenter’s Home Church
For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,  holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,  whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. (Titus 1:7-11)

The word ‘Pastor’ is a King James invention. The New Testament doesn’t talk about Pastors as we know them today. However, the Word of God speaks of bishops and that a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not greedy for money, but a lover of what is good, and that includes justice, virtue and truth. I believe that this also applies to Pastor Karl Strader.

Stephen Strader asked me once, “What Bible was I reading,” because he didn’t understand what I was saying. Maybe I should ask the same question of the Straders, “What Bible were they reading,” while all those evil and funny things were going on in CHC.

The following letter was written by my wife, Sandy concerning the Bishop of CHC, Senior Pastor Karl:

After reviewing some of the damaging evidence against Daniel Strader in the articles that were printed in The Ledger (Lakeland) and the Tampa Bay Tribune, and having attended Karl Strader’s church services for quite awhile, I have come to some interesting conclusions, to clarify this entire affair:

1.    I find that both Karl and Daniel are self-deceived, self-serving,  dishonest, discompassionate and underhanded. Basically, they are “con-artists!”  The outward appearance they portray is one of honesty, love, respect, and an air of success, while they are truly in the Biblical sense “Wolves” in sheep’s clothing. They, I repeat They Are Not—Sheep! Pretending, to be a sheep or a shepherd doesn’t make it true! Seriously speaking, there is nowhere in the New Testament that speaks of pastors or their importance. The only good pastor is a Spirit-filled pastor who has put his respectability aside for the greater good. I have a lot of experience with family members who say they love me, while they use many words to express how wonderful they are and act in a self-serving manner.

2.    The spiritual atmosphere in the church when I began to visit in October, 1994, was cold, distant, sprinkled with a few spiritual gifts offered by others, not the Straders, and filled with gossip and a sense that under the surface was a lot of hurt in many of the  people.

After several months at the church, I observed that the leadership was cold, indifferent to the sheep’s individual needs and upon meeting one or two of them, I noticed how they lacked genuine concern for others and were very self-important.

This denotes a definite lack of love and humility, which the Bible clearly states we must have both for the brethren and the heathen. Some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit were in operation, but only in prophets, and “healers” outside the “main” leadership.

The Holy Spirit was present at the front podium due to the anointing on the singers, not the pastors, as I realized later. Everything was extremely controlled. Only prophecies acceptable to the leaders where allowed to be spoken.  It was obvious the Holy Spirit was not really in control of the services as it was purported He was.

I simply observed how Karl himself, never turned to people or seemed genuinely happy to see them. This was true even of his leadership and his behavior toward them. His smile appeared artificial. It seemed unusual for a man in Christian leadership for so long.

Later, I would learn my inner sense on the matter was right. It was not that he didn’t know people but that he chose to ignore them. He was more important than they. Jesus, didn’t ignore his disciples, he walked with them, talked, ate, and slept with them. He lived with and loved them on their level.  He showed them his compassion and love even when he knew they could so easily betray Him.

True love is loving the unlovely. It is supernatural. Something alien to Karl Strader. He chose to ignore people. Both his leadership and his congregation of long standing, followed his poor example of love and caring of the sheep.

No one invited us to join them or showed interest in our family. If we didn’t “join” the programs we were ignored. All contact with the church and its members were superficial and brief.  A hand-shake when you entered the church, an occasional smile, and a lot of criticism behind your back.

Also, his sermons were devoid of the Holy Spirit. Oh, yes they were interesting at times. He tells his stories well. But, something deeper and more important was very much missing. He used the Word of God without seeming to understand the deeper truths behind the words. He spoke too much of us changing our character and behavior, very little of how the Holy Spirit can do it far better if we simple invite Him to.

Something I’ve come to realize he doesn’t understand. He became repetitive and dull. Not really showing much depth. (By depth I mean, having such a relationship with the Holy Spirit that you get fresh manna from heaven for each new sermon and the prophecy and direction all fit together in the service to further the Kingdom of heaven and benefit the people. Heaven is moving and flowing freely in the service and everyone knows it. In order to accomplish this the pastor must be very close to the Lord.)

The whole point of the exercise of coming to Florida, for my family and I was to find a church full of the Holy Spirit, where we could give and take in true Christian love and giving, and minister as God called us. We were duped into believing this was Carpenter’s Home Church because of the satellite broadcasting coming to our home in Canada.

It was an illusion and a lie. Carpenter’s Home Church would not turn out to be what it pretended to be: a Spirit-filled church, full of Christian love and fellowship and flowing in the miraculous presence of the Holy Spirit with signs following. I would be deeply disappointed.

Later, I would realize, this attitude of lack of caring was an outward expression of a deeply embedded inward problem. Problems of true honesty before God and man, self-deception that Karl Strader and his family felt they were: right, acceptable in behavior, true to the Word of God, selfless, loving and truly honest in their dealings with others.

I hate to say, the entire family, is delusional, self-deceived and totally dishonest and disrespectful to others. The heart is desperately wicked, who can know it, the Bible tells us.

5.    The facts of Karl and his family’s behavior speak for themselves.
a.    Karl doesn’t genuinely love people. He doesn’t love justice in God’s terms.   When one of my family members were wrong, I told them so. I didn’t cover it up, pretended  they were spiritual or protect them. Wrong is wrong! He chooses to ignore  wrong and sugar coat his children’s behavior. The children of Eli in the Old Testament didn’t get away with this why should his?! For that matter neither did Eli!
b.    They believe they have a special dispensation from God and are above other people because they are so important to Him and His service. They consider  themselves indispensable to God, in itself a delusion! The Bible is clear, God is no respecter of persons.
c.    They must not be judged by man because they are about God’s business and  are above the men around them. They should be treated with great deference and respect no matter what they do. It can’t be wrong they did it sincerely. Sincerely robbing people and calling wrong—acceptable, is in itself deeply wrong—wrong before God and wrong before man!
6.    Due to their attitude of self-righteousness, a need for respectability at all costs, and love of power and money, the following atrocities toward mankind was committed by them:

Karl didn’t heed the warning of the people demanding true Christian behavior from the Straders and accountability to the church body, in a meeting held to clear the air between the congregation of true believers and the Strader clan.

Karl wrote up a dictatorial policy demanding people behave as he wanted them to or leave the church “quietly” in his own words. As he was the Christ and had all the answers. Sound’s delusional? It is! In my entire life I have never seen such an un-democratic, un-spiritual, un-loving, un-professional and un-Christian document.

I personally read the sixty-six resolutions the congregation were bringing forward to Karl, demanding he and his family change their behavior and attitude to the congregation and certain prophetic and other practices. He chose to ignore them and cut them out of the body. He chose to place himself above the sheep.

Does this sound like a loving shepherd or a cold hearted wolf. Why is it he alone has power over the governing of the church, its policies, attitudes to sheep and control of the finances. Is it perhaps because of his “love of money?”

This entire attitude on the part of the father, opened the way for the delusions and practices of Dan to begin his “business practices” of taking money from one person to pay off his personal debts or investors. Where he promised them their money would go, was not what truly happened to the funds.

Even in simple insurance transactions he stole money entrusted to him, to pay people’s insurance premiums, by endorsing the checks and keeping the money for personal use. Insurance companies began to complain they were not receiving their clients premiums and it came back to Daniel.

He was entrusted with a sacred trust—to deal honestly—there is no “mistakes” when one is honest! If one willfully robs one person to give to another, this is thievery, no question about it! It is blatant robbery. He also had his father’s arrogance and pride that he is right and above the law of God and man.

Upon digging a little deeper, you begin to realize that Karl has been practicing the very thing his son was doing with his insurance clients and investors. Karl has been taking people’s tithes, given to the Lord’s service, and properly designated to certain ministries and specific purposes, and placed them where he wanted them, not where they were designated to go.

In so doing, he aroused God’s attention and anger when he began to manipulate and remove intended funds from intended service to the Lord, to cover the church’s indebtedness. This obviously doesn’t honor the Lord but only becomes “lip service,” something Karl became adept at. A pathetically poor example to his children of “mismanagement of money” and double talk, saying one thing to the congregation and doing something totally different.

Sad to me is the documented facts that came out in Daniel’s trial that he had robbed not only the investors and insurance clients, he had robbed his children and wife of peace of mind and a sense of security, because their electricity was shown to have been cut off at least fifteen times in the previous year by the electric company due to lack of payment. This is only a small sample of what went on in his practices in paying personal bills and obligations. Not very responsible or loving—even to his own family, is it?

The bottom line is, men who cannot handle their own behavior or families correctly, with good Christian order and with common respect and decency, should not be leaders of anything—let alone a large Christian church or a business!

This principle applies to all Christian leaders! We are all accountable: first to God, second to our spouses and children, and third to fellow believers and other people. We must all pay the piper! Sorry, no exceptions!

We have a firm responsibility to teach accountability to our children, both to God and man! It is irresponsible to allow a child to believe there are no consequences for our actions and all will be forgiven and covered by “God’s love.”  This is only true, the Bible says, if we meet God’s conditions of holding to his truths, unwaveringly and with deep fear of what He could do if He so chose!

God is still ultimately Sovereign! He chose to allow Job to suffer though he had done nothing to deserve it! God is God! I know he is not blind to all man does. He does Judge. Jesus’ sacrifice brought judgment.

As He said to me on the subject of love, it not only means being gentle and kind, it brings accountability and judgment. If we’re not sure we’ve crossed over the line into judgment and wrong doing we need to humble ourselves before God and find out.

When Karl and Daniel were told by God they were wrong they didn’t obey His voice. Is it because they never learned to truly “listen to His still small voice and obey Him? They also thought the vessels of his warnings were unimportant and of no consequence—Christian people—not of high positions or great wealth. Simple people, whom they had learned not to respect.

They could not recognize when a man of God had been sent to them, to redirect them and give deeply important warnings. They had not true spiritual discernment. They couldn’t hear, they couldn’t see. Is this not also Biblical? God stopped men’s ears and blinded men’s eyes?

The evidence speaks for itself. A broken church, many hurt and damaged Christian lives, the theft of thousands of dollars not belonging to the Straders, be it in tithes or investments, the Gospel of Christ trampled and disgraced, control and manipulation of lives in the Name of God and without compassion. One son in prison, another sent out of the country to minister elsewhere because he is a liability due to his attitudes and behavior, and a daughter who begs other pastors to help displace her father to place her husband in her father’s pastoral position. How Christian! How loving! What a wonderful example of right Christian living! How happy I am not to follow or be fooled anymore by such a wicked example!

FLEECE THE FAITHFUL

Don-SimmondsCrossroads Christian Communications top management shake up, CEO Don Simmonds steps down

Dr. John HullEffective Monday, American John Hull will take over as the Global CEO of the Crossroads group, and specifically the CEO of Crossroads Canada, Crossroads USA and as the General Manager of CTS.   Dr. Hull is known to a few Canadians as a former senior transition minister at Toronto Peoples Church in the 1990′s. After Peoples Church, Hull returned to the US where he headed up a leadership ministry called EQUIP.

Simmonds was appointed CEO of Crossroads in October 2009. I never did understand why his appointment was not publicly announced for 2 months. He will remain chairman of the boards of Crossroads Canada, Crossroads USA and CTS, but no matter, he’s out, and the new CEO will be introduced to Canadian 100 Huntley Street viewers on Tuesday.

Crossroads has been dealing with continued debt, loss of staff, lack-luster performance of new projects, the terminal illness of founder David Mainse, attention around the Axcess Automation/Funds ponzi scheme that had involved Ron and Reynold Mainse, as well as public questions around CIDA funding. 100 Huntley Street just held it’s 2 week fundraiser to meet operating expenses. Christian tv in Canada is not doing well, and has been limping for some time.

This shake up will be spun on 100 Huntley Street as a positive and planned development.

This is me musing, but with the appointment of Jerry Johnston as Executive Director of Crossroads Christian Communications USA, and as a host of 100 Huntley Street, and Dr. Hull taking the helm, I wonder if we’ll see more religious right, conservative thinking coming from the Burlington behemoth?  Crossroads is going south.

 Matt says:

  1. I watched today’s episode of 100 HS – i’m surprised none of them got hit by lightning – a complete embarrassment – they started brown nosing each other to the point of repulsion. The twisting of language and thoughts to make this sound Christian is appalling. People (sheep) need to take 3 steps back and pretend they are entering this ‘culture’ of verbal nonsense for the first time and dissect the words that the people on Huntley street say.

The twisting of biblical thoughts and scripture has become so common place people have no idea what is going on. They talk about the fact families can not watch television without having their morals challenged. They are absolutely correct – it is time to turn off ‘Christian TV’ because they are manipulating scripture/language and thoughts to convince people that God is apart of it.

I grew up being told I had to worry about non-believers – my parents were partially correct – I know what non-believers are about – i really do – they are open/transparent and shoot from the hip. The issue my friends that we need to worry about is ‘believers’. It is not the non-believers that will destroy the Christian faith. It is the people who portray themselves as believers.

  2. fjc says:

This is not about Christianity. It is about business and making money for the principals.

Just another view on a age old scam called “Fleece the Faithful”.

  3. John Wallace says:

I stopped watching Crossroads when they brought in Dr. Jerry Johnston. With his track record and where he is from has me very suspicious and confused as to why he was brought in. David Mainse was totally Canadian and built up his television ministry for Canadians. Ex C E O Don Simmons is a multi millionaire that wanted power and wealth and to grow into the USA and run crossroads like corporate machine. Isn’t all this against the founders plans and dreams for Crossroads. You email any of the on air staff and they appear to have been muzzled. The hour broadcast was cut back to a half hour has ruined the show and changed the feel entirely. Its a rushed broadcast to beg for money for 30 minutes and there’s little or no spirituality. If David Mainse has an ounce of strength left in him he had better come back to this ministry and get it back on track. His sons blew that opportunity out of the water for sure. Too bad such bad decisions have been made .

  4. Bene Diction says:

I’m not at all convinced Jerry Johnston has gone over well with the Canadian audience on 100 Huntley Street, but that wasn’t why he was brought in. He might appeal to a US religious audience (don’t know).
Canadians who watch 100 Huntley Street wouldn’t bother to look up his background for the most part.

The bottom line is that broadcasting is a business. I’m not saying that is good or bad, it just is.

    Crossroads – Federal EIN: 95-3426592 (N) (PC)

The US branch been around since 1978, it appears to have had a caretaker board (as opposed to a proactive board) and I think some of the prior board members may have had dual citizenship – I don’t know for sure. And I think many of the Mainse/Rutledge clan have dual citizenship also. Interestingly when Crossroads Canada registered as a charity, Rev. Vaters was chairman of the board, he is still around on the US board. Because Crossroads was considered a religious charity it had to give Rev Can a denomination. David Mainse was/is affiliated with The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, so that was the flavour the organization took.
Now, key people (Hull, Johnston, Simmons) are Baptists.

If I’m reading the latest IRS form for Crossroads correctly, the US branch is/was in debt.

Selling product is somewhat lucrative for Crossroads, I would think about a quarter of a million a year. Product is peddled a lot more than it used to be, and Crossroads has FB and the internet to really push products. The second you give Crossroads information online, by phone, snail mail, email, you are in the begging chain. Is it weird for 100 Huntley Street fans/donors to see Hull in the latest fundraising drive asking Canadians for their money, or Johnston begging? Again, doesn’t make the increased sales pitches less crass,(and probably necessary) but if I read the CRA T3010 correctly, revenues are down, expenses are up and financially Crossroads remains in decline.

David Mainse is dying, and I don’t see him as being long for this world.
Neither son has the personality or gravitas to carry 100 Huntley, the smarts for the business end of broadcasting, or the ability to woo some of the big Pentecostal donors their father did in days gone by. The idea either son would carry on for dad is a classic one (think Oral Roberts, Robert Schuller, Jimmy Swaggart, the Sumralls, Crouchs etc), andI believe was wishful thinking.

Airtime costs are high, the 1/2 hr. Huntley format may have been decided on to keep the show on air. The Christian Post for the Crossroads 360 newsfeed (are you kidding me!) was another bad decision.

Can Johnston and Hull make inroads in a saturated US religious broadcasting market?
Can Crossroads produce and distribute to an international religious market and retain what little is left of a Canadian brand/identity?

    We’ll see

ARE YOU EXPOSING THINGS?

ARE YOU EXPOSING THINGS?

Ephesians 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” “Have no fellowship … darkness”: Paul’s instruction is plain and direct: Christians are to faithfully live in righteousness and purity and have nothing at all to do with the evil ways and works of Satan and the world. The two ways of living are unalterably opposed to each other and mutually exclusive (1 Cor. 5:9-11; 2 Cor. 6:14-18; 2 Thess. 3:6, 14). “Rather reprove them”: The Christians responsibility does not stop with his own rejection of evil.HE IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR EXPOSING AND OPPOSING DARKNESS WHEREVER IT IS FOUND, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS FOUND IN THE CHURCH/GROUP. The child of light should not become involved in evil even by association. To compromise God’s standards is to weaken our witness as well as our character. No act of unrighteousness is permissible. WE ARE NOT EVEN TO HAVE CONTACT AT ALL WITH A FELLOW BELIEVER WHO IS OPENLY SINNING. “I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people,” Paul said to the Corinthians. I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters; for then you would have to go out of the world. But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so called brother if he should be an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler, not even to eat with such a one” (1 Cor. 5:9-11; 2 Thess. 3:6, 14).

“Reprove” is better translated “expose.” The believer’s duty is expressed here in two ways. Negatively, he is not to “have” and “fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness,” that is, not to indulge in the sins of the unsaved. Positively, he is to “expose” (reprove) those sins, that is, bring them to light and show them for what they really are, so that the unbeliever may see their hideous nature and their terrible consequences. To ignore evil is to encourage it; to keep quiet about it is to help promote it. We are to confront sin with intolerance. When those around us see us helping rather than exploiting, hears us talking with purity instead of profanity and observe us speaking truthfully rather that deceitfully, our example will itself be a rebuke of selfishness, unwholesome talk and falsehood. Simply refusing to participate in a dishonest business or social practice will sometimes be such a strong rebuke that it costs us our job or a friendship. The works of those dwelling in darkness produce no profitable fruit. To fellowship with someone means that you are partakers with them. We should not only not join in with them in their evil deeds, but we should tell them of their evil deeds, so that they might be encouraged to change.

SAM AND BENNY HINN THE SCOUNDRELS

Sam Hinn, brother of Benny Hinn, returns to ministry too soon, pastor says

August 12, 2013|By Jeff Kunerth, Orlando Sentinel

Sam Hinn may have returned to the ministry, but he brings with him some of the issues that forced his resignation after admitting an affair with a church member, said the pastor who first counseled Hinn.

Ron Johnson, pastor of One Church in Longwood, said Monday that Hinn walked out on a two-year restoration process after three months — leaving many of his problems unresolved. Johnson has counseled more than 20 ministers in crisis.

“In my mind, oftentimes these things are rooted in a narcissistic personality, and these things need to be addressed,” said Johnson, who was asked by leaders of The Gathering Place Worship Center to work with Hinn on his restoration.

Hinn was ordained again Sunday by a group of ministers seven months after he left his Sanford church following his admission about having a four-year affair.

“I am completely against it. In my mind, he has not fulfilled the requirements necessary for a man to step back into church leadership,” Johnson said.

Hinn is expected to take a teaching position with Tabernacle Bible College Seminary in Tampa. Seminary founder Archbishop Lonnie Langston was one of the ministers who performed the re-ordination.

Hinn, the younger brother of televangelist Benny Hinn, could not be contacted. Langston did not respond to a request for comment.

Johnson said Hinn, then a “broken man,” initially agreed to a restoration process that included staying away from ministry for a year, meeting with a clinical psychologist and keeping a journal.

“It’s a lengthy process worked out with systematic measurements that requires them [pastors] to be accountable to prove they have truly embraced a changed lifestyle,” Johnson said.

Hinn left the counseling program after trying to renegotiate the terms, Johnson said.

His quick return to the ministry came as no shock to the church member with whom he had an affair.

“I fully expected him to return to ministry. The time is no surprise to me,” Chris Wonder wrote in an email to the Orlando Sentinel.

Wonder said she began counseling shortly after Hinn’s resignation Jan. 20 and completed it May 31.

“The counseling opened my eyes to a lot & I’m very grateful to have gone through & completed it,” she wrote. “I would never allow this to happen in my life again as it broke Gods heart, the church & so many people.”

Hinn is not returning to The Gathering Place, which has a new minister, Johnson said.

“He could return to the pulpit,” Johnson said, “but my experience is men whose restoration is not deemed credible have seriously undermined their ministry and limited their opportunities.”

Hi Walter:

Like brother, like brother:  money and sex and sinful and jealousy of his brother’s  power which all go hand in hand.  This kind of public rapid fire restoration is very questionable.  Another fallen TV evangelist sternly proclaimed that any pastor or evangelist who sinned should have to receive counselling and direction for at least two years.  But, when he fell, he refused to be counselled or take a leave of absence.  Proof of repentance is required or else it is just a matter of being sorry for being caught.  The proof of repentance was necessary.  Such was the case with Saul who proven to be faithful after a teaching period of  3 years in Arabia he went to Jerusalem to consult with Peter who was not there and saw James.  Then it took Barnabas to introduce Paul to the apostles to prove that Paul was being faithful and preaching the Gospel and could be accepted (Acts 9: 26 – 28).  Benny went back to doing what he was always doing in terms of “greed” and wasting money and doing his performances.  The life-style proves that “greed” has its own reward and that is go back into  a lifestyle similar to the Scribes and Pharisees who paid their tithes but “neglected justice and mercy  and love of God” (Matt. 23: 23) and “neglected justice and love of God” (Lk. 11: 42).  Their wasted of money will condemn them before God (Jas. 5: 1 – 5).  It appears that Charisma loves (philos ) but not (agape) one brother over the other or they would have condemned both.  This happens when anybody refuses to listen to the Barabases that Jesus sends to them today.

Was Money at the Root of Sam Hinn’s Rapid-Fire Restoration?

After a four-year affair and an eight-month restoration process, Sam Hinn, the brother of evangelist Benny Hinn, was re-ordained into the ministry on Sunday night at Bishop Mark Chironna’s Church on the Living Edge.

Although there have been other controversial restorations in the past—Jimmy Swaggart, Paul Cain and Todd Bentley are a few that come to mind—Hinn’s re-ordination is causing many in the body of Christ to take a closer look at what’s going on behind the scenes.

  • Why the rush back to ministry after a four-year affair?

  • Is this a symptom of the hypergrace movement?

  • Did money have something to do with it?

“I have to confess that when I heard about the plans to re-ordain Sam, I was upset. I told one of my ministry colleagues, ‘This is a joke and makes a mockery out of everything I hold dear and have spent my life proclaiming and upholding,’” wrote Pastor Ron Johnson, who was charged with overseeing Hinn’s restoration process.

“I outlined a two-year plan of restoration and walked through the initial stages with him. But after three months, Sam wanted to renegotiate the terms. When I wouldn’t agree to that, he withdrew from my covering and has since found a group of men willing to endorse his leadership in a more expeditious manner.”

So what’s going on here?

Clearly, there’s a strong disagreement among well-known leaders in the body of Christ over whether this man should have been released back into public ministry so quickly. In an age of the hypergrace movement—which is full of dangerous errors, such as denying the need for true repentance—re-ordaining a man who admitted to a four-year affair after less than a year smacks of grace wrongly applied. Grace (and forgiveness) is one thing. Restoring trust is another.

Noteworthy is the dichotomy of responses to Hinn’s restoration among lay believers and clergy alike. Some believe it was too soon. Others pull the legalistic card on anyone who suggests it was too soon. Still others point to money motivations. Let’s look at some of the Facebook responses to Johnson’s article:

“Look how the ‘Christian population’ treated Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker. Yes, they did sin. Do you see them on TBN? Daystar? You will see Sam Hinn. It is disgusting. This is the reason so many good and decent Christians have stopped going to church,” Verla Toney wrote.

“Where in the Bible is this 2 year to restore thing? That’s an AG thing. Six weeks after Peter had a moral failure, he was having the first gospel crusade in history,” commented Peter A Vandever.

Beth Rank said, “Sam has shown by his actions that he is still in rebellion and not ready for ministry. I think the author has rightly discerned the situation and has done all that he could to help Sam. The men who have re-ordained Sam have done him a great disservice and will have to answer to a holy God because of it. These things are very, very serious … see 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1:5-11.”

“Who are we to judge? Leave that to God. He that is without sin cast the first stone? God is merciful,” noted Janis J Shepherd Harewood.

“When a minister has broken trust like this, it takes a lot of time to rebuild trust … even in his own family and marriage. It seems like when they want to rush back into ministry, they are caring more about how this has affected them instead of the impact it has had on those closest to him and the body of Christ. Ministry isn’t about the minister. It is about serving God’s people. Ministers who have failed should not be rushed back into the limelight!!!” Annette Houtz Compton wrote.

“How soon should a pastor be restored after falling into sin? How long does it take God to forgive one who repents of his sin?” commented Bishop Rodney Sanders.

“Narcissism at its finest these days. Holiness has been put on the shelf & out comes hyper grace. We need to get back to the fear of God (& this incident scares the mud out of me) instead of the fear & worship of man,” Bonnie Curry Stempel noted.

“Does God expect 2 years of groveling at the AofG? Or can God bring fruits of repentance in one single ALTER CALL OF POWER? From how I read this article he refused 2 years of his life being under the scrutiny of how bad he has been. God restores and give grace and mercy. Seems like he refused the AofG recommended penance of walking on his knees at their temple,” said Kris Koskella.

“He can’t wait to be restored. After all, there’s money to be made … is how tons of ppl are gonna read this,” speculated Laura Vernon Bull.

The divided responses show a divided body of Christ—and it also shows that there needs to be more discussion around how to restore a fallen leader. Sam Hinn wasn’t the first leader to fall, and he won’t be the last. I am grateful for Ron Johnson’s boldness to come out with a part of the story we would otherwise never have known—and in doing so starting a much-needed dialogue.

Personally, I believe a four-year affair requires more than an eight-month restoration process. And if Johnson, who has known Hinn for 30 years and has been involved in successfully restoring fallen ministers in the past, prayerfully laid out a two-year plan, then I believe it was necessary. As Johnson noted in his article, restoration is not only about forgiveness; it’s also about trust.

So what’s going on here? I don’t think this is a hypergrace error, but neither do I wonder why so many folks think money ultimately drove Hinn back into ministry just a few months after admitting to long-term sexual immorality. Hinn needs money to live on. Whatever motivated Chironna and Archbishop Lonnie Langston to re-ordain him so quickly, we can only pray that he doesn’t fall again and hurt more people in the rush back to ministry.

An Overseer’s Response to Sam Hinn’s Re-Ordination (and the Restoration of Other Fallen Leaders) 1:00PM EDT 8/12/2013     Ron Johnson

                                                       Pastor Ron Johnson

Whether you recognize Sam Hinn’s name or know nothing about the ministry of Benny Hinn’s younger brother, there’s an important issue in the body of Christ that needs to be addressed in light of Sam’s “re-ordination” on Sunday night in Orlando, Fla., only eight months after he stepped down from the pulpit due to a serious moral indiscretion.

This and other recent instances—both in Orlando and around the nation—prove that we, as the church, still struggle with how to restore fallen leaders.

When Sam’s four-year affair came to light, the board of his church, the Gathering Place (TGP), reached out to me because TGP wasn’t part of a ministerial association and because they knew I’d dealt with this numerous times in my 35 years of ministry. They also recognized that I’d known Sam for more than 30 years, having been pastor of a church nearby, and that I’d do anything I could to help them and him.

During that very difficult time, Sam submitted to my leadership. I outlined a two-year plan of restoration and walked through the initial stages with him. But after three months, Sam wanted to renegotiate the terms. When I wouldn’t agree to that, he withdrew from my covering and has since found a group of men willing to endorse his leadership in a more expeditious manner.

On Sunday, Bishop Mark Chironna, Archbishop Lonnie Langston and a handful of other leaders laid hands on Sam in a ceremony at Church on the Living Edge, also near where I pastor in Longwood, Fla. During the service, attended by fewer than 100 people, Chironna mentioned that Joseph Garlington, bishop of Covenant Church in Pittsburgh, was en route to the service and also among those fully backing Sam’s re-ordination.

I have to confess that when I heard about the plans to re-ordain Sam, I was upset. I told one of my ministry colleagues, “This is a joke and makes a mockery out of everything I hold dear and have spent my life proclaiming and upholding.”

I feel now that I must speak up after personally reaching out to several of the leaders involved in this re-ordination—including Sam—but getting no real response from my voicemails and text messages.

Obviously, these men believe Sam is ready for ministry. Though I love Sam dearly and want him to be restored, I strongly disagree with this. In fact, it’s because I love him that I cry out now.

I sat with Sam for hours immediately after the four-year affair was disclosed and counseled him. He was indeed a broken man. I also sat with his precious wife, Erika, and their children in perhaps the darkest hours of their life. I sought to do all I could to bring them through this tragic ordeal. So I believe in restoration.

But this is not what it looks like!

I have dealt multiple times in myriad places with leaders who have fallen. I have seen the pain and devastation their sinful actions cause. On the flip side, I have also seen fallen leaders find healing and be fully restored to not only productive lives but, yes, fruitful ministry.

Because of this, I feel I must speak out on what is happening. The truth is, this is not as much about Sam Hinn as it is a bigger issue in the church.

Restoration is a not a quick fix but a systematic process of transformation that deals with a person’s deep-seated sinful and narcissistic tendencies. These are the issues at the core of these problems and the cause of these failures in the first place.

The restoration process begins with deep sorrow and brokenness over failure and sin. (And I must add here that I sincerely believe Sam is sorry for his sinful failure.) However, a person must then move past that remorse to concrete action. The Bible teaches that we must bring forth the fruit of repentance (Matt. 3:8; Luke 3:8). The only way I know if a person has truly repented is not by what he says but by what he does. It is through demonstrating a tested, proven lifestyle of change that I can know. Then and only then can I know it’s real. That is fruit!

This does not happen in seven to eight months when there have been four years of constant sinful behavior.

I know many who will say, “Aren’t we supposed to forgive and move on? Isn’t what you are suggesting ignoring God’s grace?” Absolutely not! Restoration is not only about forgiveness, but also about trust. We are all called to forgive just as Christ has forgiven us. Sam asked for and received my total forgiveness—as he’s done with numerous people in his life.

However, trust must be earned. Only when a person is serious enough to take the time to fix what he has broken and systematically walk out a process of transformation should we trust again.

At the risk of being called a legalist, I am standing up and letting my voice be heard. I, for one, am tired of picking up the pieces from this kind moral collapse. During my involvement with Sam’s restoration, I drove a stake in the ground, and I wasn’t going to move it. It was my opinion that in many places, what he had done would permanently disqualify him, so he should be thankful for a two-year time out. Furthermore, I think two years is a minimum to deal with the issues resulting from a four-year affair. But evidently you can shop bishops until you get the answer you like.

I also believe that professional clinical counseling is a necessary part of any restoration. If I stand on a public platform and influence the lives of others, there needs to be public disclosure in some form regarding my psychological fitness to serve in that capacity before I return. If I am teaching God’s Word and caring for the eternal souls of men and women, I must be a well-balanced person myself. In Sam’s case, I question the wisdom of installing him as a teacher at a Bible school guiding young students—which is what he and the leaders announced on Sunday that he’ll be doing as a part of an Orlando extension of Langston’s Tabernacle Bible College and Seminary.

It takes time to test and prove a healthy, sound mind and heart. I realize this may seem costly and exact a lot, but another failure is even more costly and exacts an even higher price.

For the sake of the name of Jesus and His church as well as the people affected by this kind of behavior, let’s demand a higher standard and not bless quick fixes to long-term problems!

Ron Johnson is the pastor of One Church in Longwood, Fla.

THIS PART OF THE STORY SPEAKS VOLUMES: Ron Johnson, pastor of One Church (Assembly of God) in nearby Longwood, was asked by the Gathering Place’s church board to oversee the restoration process and did so for the first three months. After a disagreement over restoration stipulations, however, Johnson became estranged from the process. He told Charisma News he does not agree with timing of the re-ordination and will be making a public statement through this platform in the coming days.

OBVIOUSLY, RON JOHNSON IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS?  SAM HINN IS ARROGANT AND UNREPENTANT; UNWILLING TO DO WHAT RON JOHNSON TOLD HIM WAS NECESSARY!  ALL THEY SPEAK ABOUT IS SAM’S FAMILY NEEDING HEALING AND RESTORATION!  WHAT ABOUT THE FAMILY SAM HINN DESTROYED. HE HAS NEVER APOLOGIZED TO ANY OF THE GROWN CHILDREN; EVEN THOUGH HE HAS THEIR NUMBERS…..NOT EVEN A TEXT MESSAGE!! SAM HINN HAD NO PROBLEM TEXTING THEM THREATENING MESSAGES BEFORE? NO, THE REAL SAM HINN’S FAMOUS LAST WORDS TO THE ABOUT THE SON THAT EXPOSED HIM WAS “I BETTER NEVER SEE HIM ON THE STREET”! SAM HINN WAS NEVER REMORSEFUL FOR THE PATH OF DESTRUCTION HE LEFT IN HIS WAKE…  ONLY, ANGRY AND VENGEFUL BECAUSE HE GOT CAUGHT!  IF HIS NAME WAS “SAM NOBODY”, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN TOSSED OUT AND NEVER ALLOWED BACK TO ANY PULPIT!  ONLY BECAUSE HE IS A “HINN” THESE OTHER DO FAVORS FOR THEM.  CERTAINLY, BENNY PAID BIG BUCKS TO GET THIS FAVOR ACCOMPLISHED TO PROTECT HIS FAMILY NAME.

Sam Hinn Getting Re-Ordained 8 Months After Sexual Misconduct

 11:30AM EDT 8/9/2013                                                                                                                       Jennifer LeClaire

Pastor Sam Hinn will be publicly re-ordained Sunday, less than eight months after stepping down from the pulpit amid a sexual scandal. (Twitter)

Less than eight months after Sam Hinn stepped down from the pulpit of his Orlando-area church amid a sexual scandal, the younger brother of evangelist Benny Hinn is being publicly re-ordained on Sunday.

Bishop Mark Chironna, founder and senior pastor of Church on the Living Edge in Longwood, Fla., sent out a phone message to the church’s members this week announcing that Hinn would be “re-ordained” by Chironna, Archbishop Lonnie Langston and six other bishops. The message indicated that Langston, founder of Tabernacle Bible College and Seminary, would be installing Hinn as a professor at the Tampa, Fla., school.

Neither Chironna nor Langston returned Charisma News’ calls seeking comment on the re-ordination, but the message from Chironna’s ministry said:

“This Sunday evening at 7:30, Bishop Lonnie Langston and a presbytery of 6 other pastors and bishops, including myself, are gonna be re-ordaining Pastor Sam Hinn at Church on the Living Edge. And I want to encourage as many of you that love Pastor Sam to come out and be a part of that.

“I’ve been part of the presbytery team in Pastor Sam’s journey in the last number of months with everything that’s gone on—and the bishops and pastors are all in hearty agreement that it’s time to re-ordain Pastor Sam as he’s gonna be working with the Tabernacle Bible College and Seminary as a professor. And we want to affirm that he’s doing well and he certainly is, and that his family is doing well and they certainly are.

“And so Sunday night is gonna be a very special night—if you have any relationship at all with Pastor Sam, I know that he’d be blessed if you would be a part of that. So, I wanna let everyone know that’s a special—special night; and we would love for you to join us and be part of that on Sunday evening at 7:30.”

Earlier this year, Hinn admitted to allowing himself “to be drawn into a relationship that has caused much hurt and pain to my wife and family. I have repented and asked for and received their forgiveness. Scripture states that I must bring forth the fruit of repentance if I expect to be restored.”

Hinn served as pastor of the Gathering Place Worship Center in Sanford, Fla., which holds two morning services attended by about 300 people each, plus a small Arabic service on Sunday afternoon. When Hinn admitted to an immoral relationship that lasted more than four years, the church board said, “Pastor Sam Hinn has been relieved of all ministry responsibilities and as the official board, we have outlined a restoration process. This process includes pastoral and professional counseling, as well as a mandatory time out of ministry so that all fractures in both his personal and family life may be healed.”

Ron Johnson, pastor of One Church (Assembly of God) in nearby Longwood, was asked by the Gathering Place’s church board to oversee the restoration process and did so for the first three months. After a disagreement over restoration stipulations, however, Johnson became estranged from the process. He told Charisma News he does not agree with timing of the re-ordination and will be making a public statement through this platform in the coming days.

Benny Hinn’s brother Sam accused of extramarital affair –

Sanford Pastor Sam Hinn engaged in a four-year love affair with a member of his congregation before being confronted by his wife and church officials, prompting him to step away from the pulpit, according to the woman’s family.

Chantel Wonder said Hinn, the younger brother of televangelist Benny Hinn, initiated the affair with her mother by telling her they were “soul mates” and that God approved of the relationship.

“He put her in a position that this is OK because it’s what God wants. He was using God to justify it,” said Wonder, 28, of St. Petersburg.

Wonder said her father became aware of the affair in December 2008 after he found text and voice messages from Hinn on his wife’s phone. At the time, his wife denied the affair. The couple, who were married June 20, 1980, divorced on Feb. 14, 2012.

Wonder said Hinn, who is married and has four children, continued the affair after her parents divorced. She said church officials confronted Hinn with evidence of the affair in December 2012, but he refused to admit he was involved with the woman.

On Jan. 14, Hinn denied the allegations of an affair to his wife, but promised not to talk to the woman again, Wonder said. Later the same day, she said, Hinn’s car was photographed parked outside her mother’s apartment.

On Wednesday, church officials read Hinn’s letter to the congregation, in which he says, “…I am taking a leave of absence from any and all ministry so I can focus my full energy on both my walk with God and restoration in my family.”

Church officials also released a statement that the board has initiated a restoration process for Hinn that involves the counsel of Ron Johnson, pastor of One Church in Longwood.

“This process includes Pastoral and Professional Counseling, as well as a mandatory time out of ministry so that all factures in both his personal and family life may be healed,” the statement says.

Chantel Wonder said this isn’t enough.

“He’ll be back in a couple of months as senior pastor, and that’s just not right,” said Wonder, who fears the church will shift all the blame on her mother.

Wonder said both her parents were involved in church activities. Her father was an usher and both were engaged in Bible study.

Her mother, who works as a hairstylist, eventually become the stylist for Hinn’s family, including his wife and children, Wonder said.

In some parts of Christendom there are ‘Strange Manifestations’ that are being witnessed around the world today, in particular, what we are seeing today known as the ‘Lakeland Revival’ or ‘Florida Healing Outpouring’ . These manifestation, (Shaking, Jerking, convulsing/epileptic like movements, drunkenness, gold dust, gems, feathers to name just a few!) similarly witness also in previous ‘outpourings’ such as the ‘Toronto Blessing/Outpouring’, are being embraced as a move of God (or the new thing that God is doing). Not only are these disturbing but are also being accompanied by numerous unscriptural teachings and extra biblical revelations but their leaders are devoid of integrity and support adultery, divorce, lying and stealing!

The Truth About Fundraising

MOST TV EVANGELISTS/PREACHERS ARE CROOKS – WHAT HAPPENED CHARISMA GOT INTEGRITY AFTER SUPPORTING CROOKS FOR YEARS?
The Truth About the Church’s Fundraising Tactics 6:00AM EDT 8/1/2013 Larry Tomczak

counting money

Larry Tomczak says the way Christians are raising money today is ridiculous.Let’s suppose you are closing out your day with some salsa and chips when you flip on the television. You wince as you witness a repeat performance–not of another episode of Survivor but of a high-powered, high-pressure appeal for money during a talk show on your local Christian station.”Ohhh, the anointing is so strong right now,” the host says. “You need to give while the anointing is here!”You believe in the anointing of God and in the power of prayer. You love and appreciate many of the people on this TV program and you know God uses them. You certainly don’t want to be critical. So you close your eyes, shake your head in disgust and turn off the set.

“This is embarrassing,” you say to yourself. “Something isn’t right. Lord, I don’t understand–does it have to be this way?”

I know how you feel. I have seen this in church services and conferences and some of the same thoughts have surfaced in me.

Over the next several days you find yourself in conversations with Christian friends. Somehow the topic of Christian fundraising is mentioned.

The other people have strong opinions, from “It makes me sick” to “As soon as I see that stuff I turn off the TV.”

I wish this craziness were the exception, but it seems it is becoming the rule. During one recent week I turned on the tube and witnessed the following:

*In a highly charged atmosphere, a motivational speaker told her audience to shout “Amen!” She was flanked by a group of nodding, hand-clapping and hand-waving supporters. “Slap someone in agreement,” she said.

Agreement with what? The speaker quoted Psalm 71:21 and promised if viewers would pledge $71.21 a month for 12 months ($854.52) that God had told her He would give them “increase and greatness.”

The evangelist continued: “He’ll stop that lawsuit. … Greatness will be released in your job and finances and ministry and marriage even if you don’t have the resources or have two nickels to your name or don’t have a man to support you! Go to that phone and pledge $71.21 a month, and I prophesy to you that God will increase your greatness! Give now!”

*A well-dressed “bishop” who divorced his wife and remarried one week later forcefully told his audience to “obey the prophet of God and give.” He said God gave him a word for the young people: “You are in tremendous credit card debt, but if you’ll get up and pledge money and put it on your credit card, God will intervene for you. Don’t let anything hinder you. Today salvation comes to your house.”

(I wish I could remind this guy of Proverbs 22:26-27. It says that if you foolishly go into debt your very bed will be snatched from under you.)

*Another internationally known church leader told his TV audience that eight men were supposed to give $1 million each in the offering. “You have a choice,” he told them. “Obey God and win or disobey God and keep losing. You will lose God’s blessing! Go! And praise God while you’re dialing the phone.”

*Another leader used this hook to urge viewers to pledge money: “The more you pledge, the more protection you’ll have from God.” During other broadcasts this person had implied that people would be healed if they would sow money into his ministry!

I can’t help but remember the account of Simon the sorcerer in Acts 8:9-21. His greed lured him to ask Peter if he could buy the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Peter rebuked him sharply and said: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God” (NIV).

Stop the Madness!

The people I have described are sincere, but they are also misleading God’s people. And if we don’t bring some correction to their behavior soon the testimony of the American church will be ruined.

Referring to finances, the apostle Paul told the Corinthian church that their credibility was vital. “We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift. For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men” (2 Cor. 8:20-21).

Can we say this today in our churches and ministries when we raise funds? Personally, I believe things have gotten so out of hand that our meek and mild Jesus is picking up His whip to cleanse the temple one more time.

It’s time to halt pressure-laden, deceptive, unbiblical, gimmicky practices that grieve God and hurt the cause of Christ–especially when we try to reach unbelievers. It’s time to demote slick pulpit marketers who offer different colored “prayer bears,” “prosperity bracelets” and other silly trinkets.

What’s next? Action figures and bobble-head dolls of our favorite TV preachers?

Paul admonished the church at Rome that God’s name was being blasphemed among the Gentiles because of them (see Rom. 2:24). What would he say about us?

I am not a detached, armchair critic. I’ve been in the ministry more than 30 years in both local church and parachurch work. I know the financial pressures are real.

I also know God is a God of abundance and prosperity, and I believe He honors the generosity of sincere people–even if they are wrongly pressured. I also thank God for multitudes of ministers who do display sensitivity and integrity in raising funds. (Thanks to Billy Graham for 50-plus years of a superb example!)

In year’s past, when church giving declined nationwide, I had to revise my local church budget, lay off a friend from a job, pray for a financial miracle and ask God a lot of questions about our goals.

My congregation got so desperate for God’s presence and provision that we shut down every church activity (we even closed our office!) so we could seek God from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for an entire week. Our choice was simple: Either trust the flesh or trust God.

When a church or ministry reaches a point of need, it makes sense to push the pause button and examine whether God’s work truly is being done in God’s way. Hudson Taylor, pioneer missionary to China, said this: “God’s work, done in God’s way, will never lack God’s supply.”

If God promised to supply all our needs, then shouldn’t we evaluate if our current “needs” are actually “wants”? We may realize that we have wandered off-course.

How many ministry leaders make desperate pleas for projects that God never originated? Rather than manufacture a crisis by going on a fundraising binge (“We must raise $50,000 by the 31st, or we’ll have to shut down!”) maybe we should be honest and admit God is using lack to get our attention!

Supernatural Provision

We’ve seen awesome financial miracles in my church. At the end of the year we were struggling we realized we needed $30,000 to meet our budget.

After praying we informed people of the need. We requested prayer, reviewed biblical passages and invited a Spirit-led response.

While I was driving to our office on New Year’s Eve, I stopped by a post office. A man I’d never met popped out of the lobby and smiled. “I saw you deposit your mail and felt God wanted you to know He’s making a deposit in your account today,” he said to me.

That afternoon a flurry of checks arrived. By the time the ball dropped at Times Square to signal the New Year, God had met our need with $30,500!

I know God can provide. And I know He loves to pour out His extravagant love for us by meeting our needs. But we must stop misusing His Word and misrepresenting His character with our disgusting circus antics.

If we excuse ourselves by saying we couldn’t care less what the world thinks of our financial pleas, the perception among growing numbers of both Christians and nonbelievers will continue to be that something is rotten in our ranks.

Whether we like it or not, perception is reality. We are turning people off, especially the younger “make it real” generation, when we manipulate people to fill offering plates.

Have we forgotten what happened to Jim Bakker and his PTL ministry?

“As the true impact of Jesus’ words regarding money impacted my heart and mind, I became physically nauseated,” Bakker wrote in his book I Was Wrong after his release from prison. “I was wrong. I was wrong! Wrong in my lifestyle, certainly, but even more fundamentally, wrong in my understanding of the Bible’s true message. Not only was I wrong, but I was teaching the opposite of what Jesus had said.”

All of us need to ask ourselves if our attitude is “anything goes” in our church or ministry fund raising. Consider the following three guidelines related to finances.

1. Giving begins in the local church. According to the Bible, every Christian should be “added” to a church family and should financially support the church leadership with their tithes (see Acts 2:41-42; Gal. 6:6; 1 Tim. 5:17-18; 1 Cor. 9:3-12). To avoid draining off resources or competing with others, early Christians entrusted their funds to the leaders for distribution of needs and even channeled additional funds to a needy cause through their local church (see Acts 4:34-35; 1 Cor. 16:2).

This parallels the Old Testament model, in which most giving was directed primarily to a centralized location (the temple) for distribution by the leaders (the Levites). Additional giving (above and beyond basic tithes and offerings in this context) was seen as “freewill offerings”–similar to our giving today to worthy evangelistic causes, mercy ministries and so on.

John Chrysostom, a father of the early church, observed church giving in A.D. 390 and stated that the believers “did not dare to put their offering into the hands of the needy, nor give it with lofty condescension, but they laid it at the feet of the apostles and made them the masters and distributors of the gift. What a man needed was then taken from the treasury of the community, not from the private property of individuals. Thereby the givers did not become arrogant.”

2. We need guidelines for fundraising. The father of all modern fund raising is George Müller (1805-1898). He established orphanages in England and provided for thousands of needy children. I’ve visited these former homes and pondered how God faithfully supplied all the needs without any inappropriate sales techniques or high-pressure manipulation.

Müller’s guidelines are relevant for correcting much of the current fund-raising abuses, although I would add one qualifier to his first point: soliciting monetary help (see guidelines below).

Though I respect those who have a preference for never making specific needs known, I do believe there is biblical support for doing so (as Paul did with the Philippians and Corinthians) as long as information, not manipulation, is being shared. When Jesus said to give, not letting your left hand know what the right is doing (see Matt. 6:3), He was addressing motive, not method.

Müller’s guidelines state:
* No funds should ever be solicited. No facts or figures concerning needs are to be revealed by the workers in the orphanage to anyone, except to God in prayer. [This is not a biblical mandate, but it is interesting that Müller’s work was fully supported in this manner.]
* No debt should ever be incurred.
* Money contributed for a specific purpose should never be used for any other purpose.
* All accounts should be audited annually by professional auditors.
* No ego pandering by publication of donors’ names with the amount of their gifts. Each donor should be thanked privately.
* No prominent or titled persons should be sought for the board or to advertise the institution.
*The success of the institution should be measured not by the numbers served or by the amounts of money taken in but by God’s blessing on the work, which is expected to be in proportion to the time spent in prayer.

3. We need to use discernment. It’s time for the 21st century church to clean house or prepare to have Jesus clean our clocks as He did with the money changers of His day. We must not procrastinate or continue staging this embarrassing financial circus.

Chrysostom’s words to greedy church leaders of his day need to be heard in our generation: “You have taken possession of the resources that belong to Christ and you consume them aimlessly. Don’t you realize that you are going to be held accountable?”

Years ago some Anglican bishops in Africa took a courageous stand for financial integrity. When the Episcopal Church in the United States voted to ordain a practicing homosexual clergyman in August 2003, the African leaders announced they would not take any money from the American denomination. Then they exhorted the U.S. Episcopalians to repent.

Although the African Anglicans have great financial needs, Archbishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria said this: “If we suffer for a while to gain our independence and our freedom and to build ourselves up, I think it will be a good thing for the church in Africa. And we will not, on the altar of money, mortgage our conscience, mortgage our faith, mortgage our salvation.”

Imagine that! Rejecting offers of money to stay pure before God.

Maybe we can act similarly–putting principle before pragmatism–with our finances. We need to fix our eyes on the eternal priorities of the kingdom instead of the temporal needs of our flesh.

Let’s repent of our dullness and disobedience. Let’s realign our standards with God’s. Then our hearts will be prepared to receive–should God open the windows of heaven and pour out an overflowing blessing.

Let’s Get Blunt About It

Ten questions to ask before you give money to ministries:

1. Are the people who are asking for money modeling Christlikeness and servanthood or salesmanship and self-promotion?
2. Are they exalting Jesus Christ or exalting people and ministries?
3. Do they model prayerful dependency on God, or do they use pressure and manipulation to incite others to give?
4. Do they give people an opportunity to quietly and patiently hear from God, or do they insist that the giving must be done “now” or “instantly”?
5. Is there evidence of humility, purity and integrity in their demeanor and presentation, or do they use insincere hype, pushiness and striving?
6. Do they offer a sincere, faith-building presentation of Scriptures and testimonies or misleading promises and fear-inducing suggestions?
7. Does this ministry have a record of spiritual fruit that honors God, or is their reputation marred by unsubstantiated claims and exaggerated reports?
8. Do the people asking for money have godly lifestyles of humility and servanthood, or do they live as pampered people who require egotistical titles and lavish living?
9. Is the ministry financially accountable, or are false assurances used to gain credibility?
10.  Do they ever imply that giving in an offering will increase a person’s spiritual gifts or level of anointing?
