Demonic legal rights

The process of deliverance often consists of three main parts: Tearing down strongholds, removing legal rights and then casting out the remaining demons. If you try to cast out demons without taking away the strongholds or legal rights that they are holding onto, then you can’t really expect to achieve a complete successful deliverance. Removing these two blockages is vital in going about a complete and successful deliverance.

What are legal rights?
A legal right is something that can give demons an opportunity to enter or harass us, or gives them the right to remain in us even when we try to cast them out. Some of the most common legal rights that are faced when ministering deliverance are:

Sins (especially willful sins): When we commit sin, it gives the enemy a legal right to affect or bother us in one way or another. The deeper the sin, the bigger the door that is opened to the devil. When a person allows unholy thoughts to enter their mind, it can open the door to a demon of lust, which eventually causes the person to commit adultery and the matter is compounded. It starts when the enemy tempts us to think the wrong thing, then when we accept it and make it a habit, it opens the door for the enemy to move in further, then behind the bad habit which can be formed, lies a demonic compulsion that isn’t easily resisted. If the person continues down this path, he continues to open more doors to the enemy, and eventually that person finds himself committing adultery, rape, etc. because the feelings and desires the demons push on that person are irresistible. Once he commits those sins, mega doors are then opened, and the problem is like a snowball going down the hill. Sin opens the door to demons, which push us in the direction to more sins, which open us wider to more demons, etc.
The remedy? Repentance! Verbally confess and repent of your sins that have given the enemy legal rights in your life. If you recognize a particular sin or sins that has opened the door to the bondage you are seeking deliverance from, it helps to specifically repent of that sin. Any larger or gross sins you can remember are always good to repent of specifically.
1 John 1:9 tells us to confess our sins. If we don’t confess our sins and instead we hide them from God, it leaves that sin remaining in our lives. We need to confess our sins in order to be forgiven.

Soul ties: It is possible for two persons to share spiritual ties (like spiritual bridges that connect the two persons). Some of the most popular and destructive soul ties are formed during an adultery or fornication. 1 Corinthians 6:16 warns us not to have sexual relations with a prostitute because we become one flesh (flesh as in soul realm kind of flesh, not a physical flesh) with that person. This ungodly soul tie is like a rope between two persons that demons can use to their advantage to cross from one person to another. If that person had demons tormenting them, and you had sex with them, it unites the two persons, and therefore a soul tie is created, and the demons tormenting that person can also have rights to torment you. This does not apply to married couples, because there is no unhealthy soul tie created from sex within marriage. The Bible says that the marriage bed is un-defiled, and defilement is required to create an evil soul tie.
The remedy? Repentance, renunciation and breaking of soul ties! First, specifically repent of the sin which caused the soul tie to be formed in the first place. Then you can use your authority in Jesus to break and sever the unholy soul tie. Saying something like this should do the job, “I now renounce, break and sever all unholy soul ties created between myself and _____ through the act of adultery in Jesus’ name!”

There can also be soul ties between yourself and another person, without any sexual relationship involved. Sexual relationships are one of the best way to create a very strong soul tie, but it’s not the only way. Other soul ties can be created through unhealthy relationships, such as being so close to a parent that you take their advice over God’s advice. Again, repentance and the breaking of the soul ties in Jesus’ name is the way to go about solving this problem.
Another thing that could hold back the breaking of a soul tie, is a physical object given to you from the other person, through a sinful relationship. If you were given a ring, or bra or a love gift through an adulterous relationship, for example, then those gift(s) can hold the soul tie together. If the gift is valuable, and not necessarily bad in itself, then it’s best to sell the gift. If the gift is demonic or unholy, then it’s best to throw away the gift.

Demonic vows: A demonic vow can be like a spiritual signature that the enemy uses as a legal right to gain access into our lives. Demonic vows can be made consciously or unconsciously. Often when a person joins a cult coven (a group of witches), they are required to make vows with the devil. Demonic vows can be made unconsciously just by dabbling with the occult. Just by getting curious about the occult and reading forbidden materials (including horoscopes) can give the enemy your spiritual signature; it tells the enemy know that your interested. Jesus warns us not to make any vows at all. The only vows I can see are practical and good are those made during a marriage ceremony.
The remedy? But if we have made vows that do not glorify God, then we should repent and renounce those vows verbally and seek God’s forgiveness. Do this verbally, because vows are made verbally, breaking them is also done verbally.

Unforgiveness: When we don’t forgive others, God won’t forgive us. When God doesn’t forgive us, it leaves our sins remaining, which can give the enemy legal rights into our lives. Read Matthew 18:23-35, and keep in mind that the tormenters they are referring to, are demons. The legal ground the enemy may be standing on to torment you may very well be rooted in unforgiveness! I’ve heard that the single most common reason that people aren’t healed, is because they are holding unforgiveness in their hearts, and I believe it! Forgiveness is not an option; it’s a necessity! The remedy? Repent for holding bitterness in your heart against others, and make a solid choice to forgive those who have wronged you (also confirm your choice by verbally forgiving them), and release the bitterness and hurt from your heart against them.

Ancestral sins: When you involve yourself in the deeper sins or the occult world, you not only open demonic doors in your own life, but also in the lives of your children and grandchildren (Exodus 20:5). If your ancestors have committed gross sins or been involved in the occult, then it’s a good idea to confess those sins (to the best of your ability… God knows your heart), and ask Him for forgiveness (Leviticus 26:40-42). Even though you personally aren’t guilty of those sins, they may have caused curses in your life, and those curses need to be broken. Common ways to tell if ancestral sins are involved, is if your siblings or ancestors have experienced or are experiencing the same or similar problem that you are.
The remedy? The legal grounds have already been broken! If any spirits are remaining, they must be cast out. For more information, see the teaching on Generational Curses.

Childhood rejection: Much demonic bondage is caused during childhood. For example, if a parent shows rejection toward their child, a spirit of rejection may enter.
The remedy? If you have been rejected by either your parents or somebody else, you must make a solid choice to forgive that person(s), and release the hurt in your heart against them. The spirit of rejection is usually present in this situations, and should be renounced.

Points of weakness: When the person experiences weakness, such as emotional shock, physical trauma, fearful experiences during childhood, and other areas to which the natural walls of defense in the physical, spiritual or emotional system of a person are weakened, it leaves us vulnerable for the enemy to attach himself to us. The same is true with drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and especially true with drugs, because they lower our defenses, and since demons thrive on weakness, they love to move right in and setup camp.
The remedy? If there was any bitterness involved (say somebody caused the traumatic experience for you, and you are still holding it against them), then you must forgive the person who hurt you, and repent for harboring bitterness in your heart against them. If the point of weakness was caused by your own sin, such as drinking or drugs, then confess and repent of that sin. If the demons entered solely through traumatic experience, and none of it was anybody’s fault, then the demons are 100% trespassers in this situation, and need to be told to leave!

Spoken self-curses: The words we say have spiritual value, the Bible says to bless and not curse, and that the tongue has the power of life and death. If you walk around saying, “I wish I could just die,” a demon may hear you and can go to God and say, “Look, she wants to die!” and here comes a spirit of death. There is a book titled, “Blessing or Curse: You can choose, ” by Derek Prince, which deals with this topic of curses in much detail.
The remedy? Take back what you spoke against yourself, renounce it! Repent for speaking such thing(s), and break the curse(s) in Jesus’ name!

Cursed objects: Physical objects can carry spiritual value, such as idols, occult books, rings, movies, charms, etc. If you brought any Indian or pagan religion artifacts into your home, you could be opening the door for demons to enter and bother the people within your home. Land can also become defiled by the sins of it’s owners (Leviticus 18:27).
The remedy? Burn, destroy or get rid of any physical objects that you have located that could be cursed. Isaiah 2:18, “And the idols he shall utterly abolish.” It is Biblical to burn cursed objects. Repent for bringing such objects into your home if you are responsible for them! Land can be cleansed by prayer and repenting of the sins of the previous owners.

Renounce demons: Renounce any known demons that have been invited in (ex. spirit guides), and any interest or involvement in the occult or Satanism. Also renounce any demons that you know need to be cast out. This helps let the demons know that you are no longer interested in having them around.
Other helpful things to look for: When did the bondage start? Try to pinpoint how the problem started and what gave the demons the ability to enter. Look for any involvement in the occult, sins, vows, traumatic experiences, etc. along with any unusual happenings emotionally, spiritually or mentally.

One of the best arguments for continuationism OF THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT is the sheer volume of Scripture in the New Testament devoted to explaining the gifts. It defies logic to think that in every other area of the Bible we have specificity relevant through today but when it comes to this subject, God was only speaking about the apostolic age. In fact, one of the most used and correct arguments to defend against the cultural relevance arguments from the world is to say that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. That argument cannot become yesterday…and through the Apostolic age. I don’t think cessationists have thought that logically through. In order for their position to be true – God changed upon the death of the Apostle John even though there is no indication of that anywhere in Scripture. Not only that but let’s continue to be logical here. The Book of 1 Corinthians for example (which contains writings about the gifts) was written around 57 AD and the Council of Nicaea, which determined the canon of Scripture was in 325 AD, 270 years later and 230 years after the end of the apostolic age. Since we all agree theologically that the canon of Scripture was written under divine inspiration, why would the Holy Spirit inspire Paul to write about something that had only 28 years of remaining relevance and would be completely irrelevant at the time it would become Scripture? That does not sound like the omniscient God we all know and serve. Why would God ensure that it was included at the Council of Nicaea if He knew it contained obsolete theology that we should not follow? No, logic must dictate that since God selected the canon of Scripture, it is all relevant and not subject to cultural or time related arguments. It is literally a Rob Bell argument, thinking that something doesn’t apply for today that once did apply.

Rick Warren’s Daughter on Family Struggles: ‘Pain Births Beauty’

Rick Warren’s daughter recently spoke about the struggles of mental illness at Saddleback Church’s second annual Gathering on Mental Health and the Church.

The Christian Examiner reports that Amy Hilliker, the oldest child of Rick and Kay Warren, spoke at the conference held at the church where he father is a pastor, and shared her family’s struggle with mental illness.

The Warren’s youngest son, Matthew, took his own life in 2013 after a long battle with mental illness. The Warrens launched the Gathering on Mental Health and the Church to open the doors of communication about mental illness within the church body, a place where the issue of mental illness is not often addressed.

Hilliker spoke about her brother’s struggle. “Early on I had an idea that Matthew was different in some vulnerable way,” she said. “My protective nature kicked in early and, in my own way, I joined my parents in rallying around our weakest link.”

Hilliker went on to discuss the toll Matthew’s struggle with mental illness had on herself and her family, as well as the struggle she faced with her own anxiety and panic attacks, brought on by chronic Lymes Disease.

Hilliker said that, during these struggles, she felt like her family was “living in this underground bunker.”

“We were here existing on planet Earth but not really engaging with the real world or real people,” she continued.. “We would occasionally lift that hatch and look out long enough and survey the land. Then the next wave of chaos would hit and we’d have to hunker down and hold onto each other and pray to make it through.”

Hilliker said she eventually realized that she could not save her brother, but was called simply to listen to his struggles and “love him where he was at.”

She urged conference attendees to do the same when seeking to help someone struggling with mental illness.

“I wish we knew then the kind of things we know now,” Hilliker said. “But for those of us who know Jesus, pain births beauty. The story is not even close to being over yet. Because God is making every hard and ugly and painful thing that I endured, that our family endured, work for good in our lives and the lives of others. The hope is, the Bible tells us, that this work will not end, until God has extracted every teeny, tiny morsel of good out of that pain. He will not let up until this work is finished.”

The Character of Seducing Spirits

1 Timothy 4

1. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2. Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3. Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

This is an important passage to us who live today. For if this passage was meant to be speaking about any day, it was meant to speak about today. We are in the latter times. We are living just short of the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. I have been waking up every morning surprised for several years now. Jesus is coming, and He is coming soon.

Sometimes I think we should read our sermon passage with second Timothy chapter four. That passage describes the last days condition that will prevail in many of those churches which once held people who were true to Christ. People will not endure sound doctrine. They will be wanting to go their own way, being taught things that will appeal to their fleshly natures. They will get themselves teachers who themselves want to hear new things, and then these people will follow those false teachers into fables, turning away from the simple gospel of Christ. In the first Timothy passage, our text, we find that seducing spirits of Satan are intimately connected with what is going on.

One important point I want you to pick up on as we go into our text. It begins with the statement that the Holy Spirit of God is speaking expressly concerning this issue. This is a very interesting and important expression. We know that the Holy Spirit does not speak of His own volition, but speaks from the mind of the other Persons of the godhead (John 16). But here we have the Spirit of God with a special emphasis proclaiming the condition of seducing spirits among people who have had knowledge of the Gospel of Christ in these the latter days.

As I have studied this passage and compared it with the rest of the biblical teaching on the Person and work of the Holy Spirit, I have come to one very profound conclusion. That is, the work of seducing spirits in the latter times will be to interfere with, take the place of, and even pretend to be the precious Spirit of the Living God. I think the Holy Spirit would have a special interest in such a situation. Don’t you?

Listen to me. People today are without discernment between what is the Spirit of God at work and what is a deceiving spirit that wants them to believe it is the Spirit of God. That is why you have such stuff as the Brownsville Revival taking place in Pensacola, the Toronto Blessing inCanada, and those so-called Vineyard Churches on the West Coast. That is why you have such ungodly movements as the Willow Creek Association which is substituting the works of the flesh for the working of the Spirit to attract people to Jesus. I do not think that without the working of the Spirit of God drawing people to Jesus are you going to get people truly saved.

Seducing spirits have a purpose or business. The business of a seducing spirit is seduction. When people are being seduced, they are not thinking, even when they think they are. They are being carried away on a current swell of their own lusts.

Two things take place when seducing spirits begin to act. People depart from the faith, then they give heed to the seducing spirits and the doctrines of devils. I want you to notice that the departure from the faith takes place prior to the act of heeding to seducing spirits. Now we would think it would be just the opposite wouldn’t we? In our thinking we would contemplate the seducing spirits drawing men and women away from that Gospel of Christ, but my Bible is teaching me that they get into trouble because they have already departed from the faith. Or to put it in Roman chapter eight terms, they have already quit walking after the Spirit of God and started walking after the flesh, then the seducing spirits find them fair game.

One of the problems with Christians today is that when we start talking about people walking after the flesh, they immediately start thinking about sex or wanting the things of the world like new cars and such. No, that is not all of what walking after the flesh can mean. You can walk after the flesh in religion too. I believe that many people have departed from the faith today because they are lazy. Yes, you heard me, I said lazy. They want the Spirit of God working and manifested in their lives, but they do not want to work to get into the position where God can demonstrate Himself with power. That takes the work of prayer, Bible study, faithfulness to worship, and the surrender and rejection of sin in their lives. It takes work and waiting on God. We live in a right now generation. People do not want to grow in the faith according to God’s plan, so they depart from the faith looking for a new way of getting a religious high. They cannot justify what they get into by the Word of God so they try to justify it by experiences and feelings.

Another problem with people today is they are self-centered. Spoiled little babies who want their dose of god and they want him now. These are the kind of people who are not interested in an encounter with the Living God. They want their god to be a little god who will do what they want, not make requirements of them. The do not want the Spirit of God to get hold of them, they want to get hold of a so-called “holy ghost” and have him serve them. They get something all right.

People depart from the faith, yet they still sing songs, go to a church, make religious noises. Sometimes they seem on the surface a lot more kind and loving than those who are still on the right path. One of the ways you can spot a person who has departed from the faith is you see them putting feelings and experiences on a par with the written word of God. When it gets right down to it and they are forced to choose between the Word and their feelings, they will choose their feelings.

Another way you can spot a person who is not walking in the faith is you see a person who thinks of themselves as some special class of Christian. When they start looking about and thinking themselves superior, watch out. When people start thinking they are on some special plane, they are, but it is very likely not God’s plane. It is amazing how much pride, pompous little people can muster. People who depart from the faith often evidence pride. They become wise in their own self deception and so proud of it. If they only knew how silly they look to people able to discern the difference between true and false holiness.

It is a sad thing to see people who once had such a testimony for the Lord fall into the pitfalls and snares of delusion, departing from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons. But it is the reality of our day. We should always be on guard against the deceptions that are abroad in the world today.

Seducing spirits always work according to one of three principles.

the principle of the world
the principle of the flesh
the principle of the devil

Now this is a subject we could park on for some length, and we could become all involved in everything that is in each of these three principles. That would take a lot of time and quite frankly you probably would not remember all that is embodied in them. For the sake of getting the point across, I am going to confine my remarks to one major example of what it is I am talking about. And surprisingly each of these examples I am going to give you, though a primary example, is a category of deception that is often overlooked when we consider the subject. No wonder seducing spirits are so successful.

Our first area in which seducing spirits work is after the principle of the world. The principle of the world does not only mean the things within the world, but it also means the ideas contained within the world. The logic of man, for instance, apart from the Spirit of God, is the logic of the world. Men begin to do what seems right in their own eyes. They lean unto their own understanding, instead of judging things by what the word of God says.

The logic of the world is the logic of the evolutionist. In as much as he did not wish to keep God in his heart, he decides to ignore all evidence to the contrary and delude himself into thinking that if you add millions of years into an impossible occurrence it then becomes possible, and life could come into existence and evolve into different species apart from God.

The logic of this world makes man want to get to heaven based on works instead of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He reasons other ways to be saved and sanctified rather than the way of the Bible. In the logic of the world man wants to be good enough to be accepted of God instead of standing before the Lord clothed in the Lord Jesus Christ’s righteousness alone

Man is always busy trying to do things his way. Frank Sinatra used to brag in song that he did things his way. His way does not matter to him today. They called him the “Chairman of the Board”. What he was, was a mobster who sang worldly songs. Today he is not chairman of the board. Today he is wishing he had done things God’s way and not by his own logic.

Seducing spirits like to make man in his logic think there are other ways of getting to heaven, in fact there might be many paths to getting to God instead of by the way of the old rugged cross. Seducing spirits tells man, “Think this thing through, don’t you really believe that all these millions of people in the world who are questing after salvation have to have some truth?” And man in his perverted logic alienated from God answers, “Yes.” Then the seducing spirit says, “Then shouldn’t you preach tolerance?” And the man who has turned away from the truth of God’s word answers, “Yes.” The seducing spirit leans back and smiles. He has just produced one more ecumenical. I call those kind of people ‘ecumaniacs’. They are people who love every body else’s religion more than they love the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Next, we come to the second principle by which seducing spirits work, this is the principle of the flesh.

Usually when we think about the seduction of the flesh, we think about the lusts of the body, you know carnality, and people who are addicted to strong drink, drugs, and pornography. Stuff like that. We preachers have preached against the talk shows, soap operas, dirty movies and the such-like for years. We have quite correctly labeled those things under the heading of the lusts of the flesh. However, the principle of the flesh does not only mean sexual desire or other lusts contained in the flesh, it can also mean the emotions of the flesh.

People base their relationship with God and with others on how they feel. They often times operate with God on the basis of whether they feel saved or not. They pray on the basis of whether they feel in distress or not. They pick up their Bibles only after they have had the world around them crash down on their heads and being ignorant of the word of God they complain because the word does not immediately open to their solution. Then they have demon inspired anger against God because He (they say) did not solve their problem. People act in the devilish seduction of their emotions, with God, just like spoiled little kids do with a parent. “Gimme”, “gimme”, “Gimme”. And they say “God you don’t love me because you did not ‘Gimme’.”

Devilish seduction after the principle of the flesh is why we have skyrocketing divorce today. People base their marriages on how they feel rather than what they have committed to. People divorce because they don’t feel they are in love anymore. They think love is an emotion. They have hearkened to the seduction of devils who have told them love is based on how you feel instead of who you are committed to. It is a good thing the Lord Jesus does not base His love for us on how He might feel about us isn’t it? We ignore Him, break His commandments, violate His precepts, discard His Word, fail to reflect His love to others or even to Him. It is a good thing His love is commended love and not the kind of love the devils of hell would have us to think is real love, isn’t it?

People in churches listen to the seduction of demons in their relationships with one another. They often remind me of children in the back seat of their parents car. “Momma, he looked at me that mean way again.” “Daddy, she’s too far over on my side of the car.” “Tell them to stop that.” Stop what? “That!” The only difference between some people in churches and kids in the back of a car is it looks worse on people who are supposed to be saved adults. They seem to have forgotten the Lord said we would be known by the love we have for one another.

Now we come to the third principle or type of the seduction of devils. The principle of seduction after the ways of the devil is based on what the devil’s goals and purposes are. This might include witchcraft but it does not have to. People do not have to be intentionally serving the Devil or Satan to give heed to seducing spirits according to the principle of the devil. People fall into this trap when they depart from the true word of God and go after the so-called new versions of the Bible. The devil’s first attack in this world was on the basis of God’s word. Did God really say that? Man’s first response was, in the person of Eve, to add to the word. She was already yielding to the seduction of the devil.

To me this is the most awful type of seduction but it is the one more and more people are falling into. People have taken to accepting anything some printer will print to get money as the word of God. Just like Eve in the Garden of Eden people are being convinced that God cannot keep His word. The seduction of devils tells you His word can be lost and some serpent is going to help you recover it. Jesus had problems with snakes in the grass in his day. He called them scribes, Pharisees, and hypocrites. Today we have our own problems with snakes. We call them translators, revisionists, and publishers! But the shameful thing is just like Eve we seem to think we can take two different things and have them both be the word of God.

One of the things that amazes me about this whole thing is how blind so-called religious leaders can be about this issue. It seems to me quite plain that many people, before they ever fall into seduction after the principle of the devil have already apparently succumbed to the seduction of devils after the logic of man’s own mind before hand. Magicians do slight of hand tricks, but they cannot compare with the slight of mind trick that can say, “We believe that the Scripture is true and cannot be broken. We believe what the Scripture says about how the word of God will endure forever;” but, “We also believe what some men have said about the true text having to be lost and recovered.” But then these filthy dreamers turn around and say we are different from the cults that claim the very same thing. Isn’t the man who says some part of my Bible is not the real word of God just like the man in the cult who says he believes that the Bible is the word of God in so far as it is correctly translated? No wonder so many Baptist churches are filled with people who have never won a soul to Christ. They don’t sound any different to a cult member than his own leaders do!

Doctrines of devils include false religious systems. Such ideas as you do not have to come by way of the cross to be saved is a doctrine of devils. The Devil acts like he actually believes that he can one day win this war and defeat God, but a lot of his lesser devils are not so similarly illusioned. Remember what some of them asked Jesus one day. “Do you come to torment us before the time?” They know that they are in a losing battle. Ever since Cavalry they have had no illusion that the way they cannot go, the way of the cross, is the one that leads home. That you can be saved by works is a doctrine of devils . That you can become a god and populate your own worlds as the Mormons teach is a doctrine of devils. You should become tolerant of other religions and allow them equality with your own is a doctrine of devils.

Oh yes, Satan’s first doctrine was that he would exalt himself and replace the Lord God in Isaiah chapter 14 and he has been teaching that doctrine to people with great success for a very long time. As a matter of fact we are letting Satan teach that doctrine to our children right under out noses and with the dollars taken away from us by the tax collector to boot. Yes, he is teaching his first doctrine under the heading of humanism right in the public schools and we are letting him and his servants get away with it.

One nation under God indeed. We have become a nation of pagans and apostates. People are trading away their freedoms won in the persecution of both the church and the revolutionary war in the hopes that they can make it through the rest of their lives enjoying the pleasures of sin for a season.

You want to know why the church does not see much true revival taking place anymore? Just look at the condition of the people in the church. Why just a couple of weeks ago I heard of a youth worker in a Baptist church who was taking kids home to watch R rated movies. A few years ago I hear about a woman working with teenage girls who took her class to Hooters. When her pastor found out about it and called her out on it, she tried to get a movement started to get the pastor fired! Bold in their sin, these people who reject the true God to pursue the pleasures of sin!

Surely they cannot believe there is a soon coming day of judgment. Surely they cannot believe there is a day of accountability coming. They must not really believe there is a God who sees all and knows all. What kind of doctrine of devils must these people have to reject the Gospel and its call to holiness in living?

My friends there is a day of accounting coming. It is coming for the sinner. They will stand in a judgment that will determine how deep in the depths of hell they will suffer for all eternity. A judgment day is also coming for the believer. And many people who think of the judgment of the believer as a place to gather rewards and clap for others will discover themselves suffering loss. I wouldn’t want to be the hell bound sinner. And, I would not wish to be the empty handed believer either. But most of all, I would or wish to be the apostate, who knew the Gospel of Christ and forsook it for the seductions of devils.

When Demon Spirits Harass You Should Do This

Scriptural signs and wonders confirm the resurrection of Christ. Signs and wonders go way beyond preaching a nice sermon on Sunday morning or praying over your meal. Signs and wonders include healing and deliverance. Christians are called to cast out devils. Sound scary? It shouldn’t. Are you ready to continue the deliverance ministry of Jesus? Let’s get started right now.

Today there are thousands of hurting people that need help. For some deliverance is key. Jesus said the harvest is plenteous but the laborers few. As a disciple of Christ your job is to learn from Him and follow His example. Jesus cast out devils. As a matter of fact after Christ was anointed by the Holy Spirit he went into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil for forty days and forty nights. In that spiritual wilderness Jesus used the Word of God against the onslaught of Satan. Jesus did not ignore the devil. Neither should you. Repeatedly Jesus answered Satan with the Word saying, “It is written.”

When Jesus came out of the wilderness He came out with power. Scripture says,

“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.” (Luke 4:14)

Christ, anointed by the Holy Ghost, went into the wilderness and came out of the wilderness with power.

DELIVERANCE AND HEALING

Deliverance and healing are signs that point to the resurrection of Christ. He’s not dead he is risen! “And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all” (Acts 4:33). Notice that “great grace” was not confined to the apostles but was “upon them all.” A born again Christian has been given authority by Christ to cast out devils and heal the sick. You can use the name of Jesus against every evil spirit that afflicts the sick and oppressed. Scripture declares,

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11)

That’s good news for the vexed and sick. In our modern Church world, however, preaching the Gospel in some circles has become powerless with nothing more than a Dr. Phil type of pop-psychology or soulish entertainment over at Club Jesus. We are called to be Spirit-filled and Spirit-led ministers, not behavioral scientists. We have to ask ourselves, “If Christ be risen where is the proof?” After the resurrection of Christ the early believers “went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them confirming the word with signs following” (Mark 16:20). What were the signs? They were changed lives, demons coming out of people, and physical healing.

New Testament churches were full of believers equipped and empowered to continue the deliverance and healing ministry of Christ. Churches were never built to create a self-serving humanistic cult of religious escapists and holy spectators.

True believers in Christ, Christians, walk in Holy Ghost power that gives proof of the resurrection. As already said this is way more than quoting a bible scripture, teaching a nice Sunday school class or sharing with a friend at the coffee shop. Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do because I go unto my Father” (John 14:12).

The Apostle John wrote, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). Everything has a purpose. Purpose is the reason you exist. Purpose must be pursued. Success in life is the fulfillment of purpose. Your purpose, if you decide to accept it, is to model yourself after Christ. He was and is the model son. Emulate him and watch devils tremble.

MANIFEST SONS

The deliverance and healing ministry of Christ is not finished. Devils are still tormenting innocent people and thousands lay in hospital beds sick and without hope. Demonic spirits left unchallenged continue to steal, kill and destroy. The only hope for the sick and oppressed is the manifestation of the sons of God walking in the Spirit confirming the resurrection of Jesus with signs following.

As a son of God you have a great opportunity to show forth the praises of Him that has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. The entire world is groaning and travailing waiting for you to pick up the sword of the Spirit and put the enemies of God under your feet.

REVOLUTIONARIES OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

God’s revolutionaries are not afraid of devils. When Christ called his revolutionary disciples he gave them power against unclean spirits and to heal the sick. “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power (delegated authority) against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease” (Matthew 10:1). Again we read of deliverance and healing in the same verse. It seems some want healing but ignore deliverance. To me it’s apparent that deliverance and healing work together. Receive deliverance, receive healing. Receive healing, receive deliverance. You can’t counsel out or drug out what you are called to cast out. Casting out demons is a clear sign of the Christian believer’s authority.

THE FIRST SIGN

The first sign following a mature Christian is casting out devils. When was the last time you saw someone receive deliverance? Scripture declares, “And these signs shall follow them that believe, in my name shall they cast out devils, and they shall speak with new tongues” (Mark 16:17). These “signs” are visible indications of discipleship that “follow” believers in Christ. Believers don’t follow signs, signs follow believers.

In our modern society we tend to forget that people can be troubled by demonic spirits. We also lose sight that some, not all, sickness and disease is caused by demonic spirits.

Matthew writes about deliverance and healing. He said people “possessed with devils” came to Jesus and He cast them out with His word and “healed all that were sick.” Notice again that deliverance and healing are linked together in this verse. “When the evening was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” (Matthew 8:16-17).

POSSESSED OR DEMONIZED?

Unfortunately the word possessed is confusing. In our Western culture when we think of someone possessed we think they are out of control. That’s not what the biblical word possessed means in this scripture. A person can be possessed and remain in complete control of their faculties. It’s very common to see a person needing deliverance come to a church service for deliverance. If a person was under the total control of a demon that demon would never allow a person to attend an anointed church service nor come into contact with an anointed Christian. This answers the question, “Where were these possessed people during the day?” The answer is, “Probably at work.”

The English word “possessed” is from the Greek word daimonizomai. Daimonizomai is two Greek words daimon and izomai. Daimon is demon and izomai is influence. The clearest meaning therefore is one influenced or under the influence of a demon. So a person can be daimon-harassed, daimon-vexed, daimon-tormented or just plain old demon influenced.

It’s clear therefore that the word possessed means to be demon influenced or said another way demonized. This means that a person needing deliverance is harassed, vexed, tormented or influenced by demonic spirits and you have the authority to cast them out and bring healing in Jesus name.

OPPRESSED WITH THE DEVIL

Jesus did not anoint himself. He was anointed by the Holy Ghost. Christ said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me” (Luke 4:18). The he is the Holy Ghost. Jesus was, is, and will always be God but when he stood at the River Jordan the Holy Ghost came on him anointing him with Holy Ghost power. Scripture declares, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil for God was with him” (Acts 10:38). “Oppressed of the devil” means to be burdened, laden, suppressed, or persecuted. Jesus, anointed by the Holy Ghost, healed all those daimon-influenced. Again, scripture declares, “Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses.”

HIS FIRST MIRACLE

The first miracle Jesus performed was to cast out an unclean spirit. Right after his wilderness confrontation with Satan Jesus went to church. While there a man possessed spoke with a loud voice saying “let us alone.”

“And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.” (Mark 1:23-28)

Notice how many times this spirit made it known that there was more than one spirit inside this man. The unclean spirit said, “Let us alone, what have we to do with you, and art you come to destroy us.” This is the voice of a strong man with several spirits accompanying it. Jesus, anointed by the Holy Ghost, responded by casting out the unclean spirit, “Jesus rebuked him” and out they all went.

THE FINGER OF GOD

The Holy Ghost said to me, “Only the sons of God walking in the Spirit can manifest the Kingdom.” All of us are called to manifest the Kingdom of God. One way is found in the healing and deliverance ministry. Jesus taught when unclean, vexing, harassing, tormenting or demonizing spirits are cast out of people then the Kingdom of God is in manifestation. “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you” (Luke 11:20). Deliverance is the children’s bread, it belongs to us. Devils have no right to put sickness or disease on God’s people.

It’s puzzling to think that a Christian can have a devil but not so puzzling to think a Christian can be harassed by demon spirits or under the influence of demon spirits. It’s also puzzling to think that a Christian can be sick. After all, scripture declares, “By His stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). So if you were healed then why are you sick? Could it have anything to do with a lack of knowledge or having faith to receive what already belongs to you?

Before a person can receive the benefits of salvation they need to know what belongs to them. This is confirmed in the scripture, “Faith cometh for by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). Once you know what belongs to you then all you need to do is receive it. That goes as much for deliverance from unclean spirits as it does for physical healing. The Apostle Paul wrote that he prayed for believers to come to the place where they knew what belonged to them in Christ. Today we could call those the benefits of salvation. He wrote,

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.” (Ephesians 1:17-22)

All enemies of Christ including demon spirits, sickness and disease belong under the feet of Christ. Scripture confirms, “For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet” (1 Corinthians 15:25). As a disciple of Christ you are charged with the continuing deliverance and healing ministry of Christ. Learn all you can. Study to show thyself approved a workman that need not be ashamed. Be a doer of the Word not just a hearer. When demon spirits harass use the anointed Word of God and command them to “come out in Jesus name!” Give testimony to the resurrection of Christ and let there be great grace on your life.

Prophetic Ministry and Familiar Spirits

Every prophetic ministry should learn how to avoid familiar spirits. Prophets carry a great blessing for the body of Christ. They also have a significant responsibility to guard their ministries from demonic encroachment while avoiding familiar spirits.

As prophets mature in their ministries they quickly learn to “wait for the unction” of the Holy Spirit before moving out in their gifting. This is how they keep defilement and spiritual corruption out of their lives and ministries. The Apostle Peter made it clear that men of God wait on the Holy Ghost, “Knowing this first that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:20-21).

Prophecy from the Holy Spirit was never spoken by “the will of man,” that is to say, by man’s will. This is significant and fundamental in prophetic ministry. This teaches if one prophesies by faith only, without any Holy Ghost unction, then they wrongly prophesy according to their own will and not Gods. This is the indicator of a presumptuous and self-willed prophet who can easily tap into deceiving spirits of divination. To avoid familiar spirits the mature prophet will wait on the unction from the Lord. Prophecy is serious ministry and should not be taken lightly. To meddle in prophetic ministry outside the unction is dangerous and damaging to the lives of precious people.

Prophesying is not something done solely by faith. Prophecy is not by the prophet’s faith and will exclusively. Faith alone does not force the Holy Spirit to speak. You have a measure of faith involved but the prophet is not making prophetic utterance come by faith. The seasoned prophet understands this and is able to protect himself and others from prophetic error. Again, prophecy is not about faith, will or emotion, it’s about waiting for the Holy Ghost to move.

The prophet is only a spokesman. If the Holy Spirit decides to speak He will but the prophet must wait for the unction offered according to the direct will of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:11). Let’s look at the pattern for a safe prophetic release, “Holy men spake as they were moved (compelled and prompted) by the Holy Ghost.” True prophetic utterance is always with Holy Ghost unction. Unction is God’s permission to speak on His behalf. If there is no unction, then the prophet is acting by assumptive faith decoupled from the Holy Spirit’s prompting. This is unsafe.

Unction, Greek chrisma, means anointing. Those that prophesy by presumptuous faith are in danger of tapping into a demonic spirit of divination. This is the realm where high-level occult spirits gain access into the lives of Christians, churches and ministries. Again this reveals the seriousness of the prophet’s ministry and responsibility of every believer to judge prophecy according to the written word of God.

Divination is foretelling (prophesying) the future by occult means. As already said prophecy should come only after you receive Holy Ghost unction to speak. This is the biblical pattern taught us in the Word and demonstrated by the prophets of old that were first “moved by the Holy Ghost.” Remember, unction for the prophet is the permission of the Holy Spirit to speak. After you receive permission then use your faith and surrender to the will of the Spirit and prophesy.

Five steps for avoiding familiar spirits are:

1. Knowing when the Holy Spirit wants to speak.
2. Receiving the Holy Spirit’s permission, rightfully called the unction.
3. Using faith to surrender to the Holy Spirit’s unction.
4. Speaking what the Holy Spirit has to say.
5. Judging the prophetic word according to Scripture.

SET PROPHETS, MANTELS AND ACTIVATION

Fivefold ascension gift prophets carry a prophetic mantle. In the New Testament we refer to the office of the prophet as one of the fivefold ascension gifts given by Christ to “perfect the saints for the work of ministry” (Ephesians 4:11). When Elijah was ushered into heaven he dropped his prophetic mantle to Elisha. Elisha was already called into the prophetic ministry before this event. The mantle terminology is an Old Testament term referring to the prophet’s ministry. New Testament prophets are better described as gifted but we can still use the illustration of mantle to explore prophetic operations.

I have seen the effects of this prophetic mantle on the prayer lives of people that come into contact with it. One day some people were praying together. As I listened many in the group were prophesying. What was striking to me was these people had never prophesied before. So what was it that was different in this particular group? There was a man with a prophetic mantle on his life among them. He was a fivefold ascension gift prophet. The reason these others were able to prophesy was they were picking up on his prophetic gift. This expresses the need for fivefold ascension gift prophets in local churches because their gift activates the prophetic among the general assembly. This is healthy within the biblical context because true prophetic utterance exalts and magnifies Christ and is “the testimony of Jesus” (Revelation 19:10).

This also points out the necessity of prophetic maturity among the ministry’s leadership. Avoiding familiar spirits is the responsibility of all but especially those in senior leadership within the local church. Scripture gives examples of prophetic activation when King Saul sent messengers to capture David. Watch the prophetic anointing come on these people after they came into contact with Samuel and the company of prophets.

“Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the spirit of God was on the messengers of Saul and they also prophesied. And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time and they prophesied also. Then went he also to Ramah and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, ‘Where are Samuel and David?’ And one said, ‘Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.’ And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on and prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah. And he stripped off his clothes also and prophesied before Samuel in like manner and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, ‘Is Saul also among the prophets?’” (1 Samuel 19:20-24.)

Did you notice who was in those meetings? It was Samuel. He was “standing as appointed over them.” The word “appointed” natsab means set. Samuel was the “set prophet” among this group. There is something to be said about prophetic activation when fivefold ascension gift prophets are present. When the messengers of Saul came into contact with Samuel “they also prophesied.” It is doubtful they were trying to muster much faith to do it. I believe a strong unction from the Holy Ghost came on them followed by a measure of faith.

Let’s look at Ezekiel’s release to prophesy for a better understanding of avoiding familiar spirits and receiving prophetic permission. Ezekiel was a seasoned man that knew the Holy Spirit well. He models another safety feature in avoiding familiar spirits. He would not prophesy until told. Scripture says, “So I prophesied as I was commanded” (Ezekiel 37:7). In this verse Ezekiel, a mature prophet of God, understood that he was not to prophesy until the Lord released him to do so. We, too, can learn from his example.

It is all right to sense the prophetic anointing but don’t speak “thus saith the Lord” unless God releases you through prompting by the Holy Spirit. If you prophesy by faith without unction, outside God’s permission, you are in danger of tapping into a spirit of divination. This is a sobering truth but if you tap into a spirit of divination you release witchcraft over the people. This wrong prophetic operation is taking place today and needs to be stopped. God has not called His prophetic people to be fortune-tellers but those that offer edification, exhortation and comfort. Wrong prophetic operations open the door for all kinds of high-level occult spirits of divination. Avoid them at all cost.

During a powerfully anointed service I asked God if he wanted me to prophesy to the people. I don’t do this anymore because I have learned to look for the unction. I could tell they were pulling on me for a prophetic word. Most seasoned prophets can relate to that feeling. The Spirit of God said, “No.” Could I have prophesied anyway? The answer is “yes” but I would have been in error. As said repeatedly, if you prophesy without God’s permission you can tap into a familiar spirit.

A man told me he received a prophetic revelation from the Lord. I asked him to share it with me and he said, “It is way too deep and nobody was ready for it.” I said, “Brother, you need to be careful with that. If you have a revelation from God you need to let the prophet’s judge” (1 Corinthians 14:29). All prophecies need to be judged, examined and weighed against the logos of God. Scripture says, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Don’t get distracted by the term false prophets. False prophets don’t start their ministries as false prophets. They start them just like you did with sincerity of heart and a love for Christ. It’s what happens along the way that decides their destiny. If they learn how to avoid familiar spirits they can make it. If they don’t they fail. It’s that simple.

Prophets make mistakes and some prophesies are wrong. Scripture says that we “see through a glass darkly” (1 Corinthians 13:12). If prophets and prophecies were always accurate then people would be tempted to follow prophets instead of Jesus. All prophecy needs to be tested for accuracy. Period.  This helps close the door to familiar spirits.

6 Really Bad Charismatic Doctrines We Should Retire

I will never apologize for being a charismatic Christian. I had a dramatic experience with the Holy Spirit many years ago, and nobody can talk me out of it. I love the Holy Spirit’s abiding presence in my life and His supernatural gifts. I love to prophesy, speak in tongues, pray for the sick and see people changed by the Spirit’s power.

At the same time, I’m aware that since the charismatic movement began in the 1960s, people have misused the gifts of the Spirit and twisted God’s Word to promote strange doctrines or practices. Seeing these errors never caused me to question the authenticity of what the Holy Spirit had done in my life. But I knew I had to stay true to God’s Word and reject any false teachings I encountered.

My simple rule is based on 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22: “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil” (NASB). In other words: Eat the meat and spit out the bones.

As I have traveled throughout the body of Christ in recent years, I’ve experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. I love God’s people, and I know there is a healthy remnant of Spirit-filled churches that are striving to stay grounded in biblical truth. But I also know we have reached a crossroads. We must clean up our act. We must jettison any weird doctrines we might have believed or practiced that are hindering our growth today.

Here are a few of the worst errors that have circulated in our movement in the past season. You may have others that need to be added to this list. I believe we are grieving the Holy Spirit if we continue to practice these things:

1. “Touch not My anointed.” Chances are you’ve heard this weird doctrine based on 1 Chronicles 16:22. In an attempt to discourage any form of disagreement in the church, insecure leaders tell their members that if they ever question church authority, they are “touching the Lord’s anointed” and in danger of God’s judgment. Let’s call this what it is: spiritual manipulation. It creates worse problems by ruling out healthy discussion and mutual respect. Church members end up being abused or controlled—or even blacklisted because they dare to ask a question.

2. Dual covenant. We charismatics love and respect Israel. Some of us even incorporate Jewish practices in our worship—such as wearing prayer shawls, blowing shofars or celebrating Hebraic feasts. These things can enrich our Christian experience—but some leaders go too far when they begin to teach that Jews don’t need to believe in Jesus Christ to experience salvation. They imply that Jews have special access into heaven simply because of their ethnic heritage. This is a flagrant contradiction of everything the New Testament teaches.

3. Inaccessible leadership. In the 1980s, some charismatic ministries began to teach pastors and traveling ministers that in order to “protect the anointing,” they must stay aloof from people. Ministers were warned to never make friends in their congregations. Preachers began the strange practice of skipping worship on Sunday mornings—and then appearing on the stage only when it was time for the sermon in order to make a dramatic entrance. Shame on these people for attempting to justify arrogance. Jesus loved people, and He made Himself available to them. So should we.

4. Armor-bearers. The same guys who developed item No. 3 started this strange fad. Preachers began the practice of surrounding themselves with an entourage: one person to carry the briefcase, another person to carry the Bible, another to carry the handkerchief. Some preachers hired bodyguards … and even food-tasters! The armor-bearers were promised special blessings if they served preachers who acted like slave-owners. Reminder: True leaders are servants, not egomaniacs.

5. The hundredfold return. Before his death in 2003, Kenneth Hagin Sr., the father of the faith movement, rebuked his own followers for taking prosperity teaching to a silly extreme. In his book The Midas Touch, he begged preachers to stop misusing Mark 10:28-30 to suggest that God promises a hundredfold return on every offering we give. Hagin wrote, “If the hundredfold return worked literally and mathematically for everyone who gave in an offering, we would have Christians walking around with not billions or trillions of dollars, but quadrillions of dollars!” Hagin taught that the hundredfold blessing refers to the rewards that come to those who leave all they have to serve God in ministry.

6. Money cometh. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for giving money publicly to be seen by others. Yet in the 1990s, some charismatics got the wild idea that God would release a magical blessing if we would drop wads of dollar bills at the preacher’s feet while he was in the middle of his sermon. Leroy Thompson of Louisiana popularized this flamboyant practice with his infamous 1996 sermon, in which he encouraged people to shout in King James English, “Money! Cometh to me now!” Then the people would run to the front of the auditorium to pour cash into his coffers. The money came, for sure, and more cash-hungry preachers jumped on the bandwagon. Taking an offering became a form of exhibitionism, and Christians began viewing their offerings like lottery scratch-offs.

God requires holiness not just in our behavior but also in our doctrine. Let’s discard these and any other foolish teachings that have brought confusion and dishonor to the body of Christ.

3 Steps to Self-Deliverance From Demonic Strongholds

Repent, renounce and break demonic bondage over your life.

Sickness and emotional pain are rooted in spiritual problems. 

A person coming for deliverance is convicted of sin and truly wants to be delivered out of his bondage. Our first goal is to help him understand that he doesn’t need to go through a prayer line to receive deliverance.

Jesus is true to His Word, and anyone who seeks Him in a right spirit with the right “tools” will experience His freeing power. One tool we teach is actually a series of action steps for getting free: repent, renounce and break.

Repent. “Repent” literally means being “re-penitent” or “again humble.” One who is penitent expresses humble or regretful pain or sorrow for sins or offenses. To repent means to come back to that place of humility and sorrow over sin.

We are coming back to the one who grants forgiveness. We are not trying something new or different–we are reaffirming our need for the Savior, deliverer and redeemer, Jesus.

If there is no repentance, then we continue to walk in darkness, deceived by the enemy. And if we continue to be deceived, we remain in bondage.

Renounce. To “renounce” means to “give up, refuse, or resign by formal declaration.” Whereas repenting is directed toward God, renouncing is directed toward the enemy.

We are countermanding any words that contradict God’s Word. We are making a formal declaration that we will no longer align ourselves with things that oppose God. We are canceling any and all agreements with the enemy.

God has given us authority in Jesus’ name to cancel any spiritually binding contract we may have made with the devil through our words. Many believers repent of their sins before God, only to find themselves in a losing tug-of-war with the enemy, repeating their failures.

We must shut the door on the devil, refusing by formal declaration to walk in the ways of the past. Renouncing is the means by which we cut off any legal right for Satan to bind or torment us. This is the way we resist him.

If our words have been contrary to God’s, then we have aligned ourselves with the works of darkness. To be free from them, we must counter those words with God’s Word, thus renouncing the hidden works of shame. “But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God” (2 Cor. 4:2).

Break. After we repent, we have the right to cancel or renounce any legal hold the enemy had over us. The yoke of bondage can be broken off our lives. God loves to see us come to the place where yokes are broken–and it thoroughly frustrates the enemy!

It is quite common to use anointing oil when praying for someone’s deliverance. There is nothing supernatural about the oil. It is, however, representative of someone who is very supernatural. That one is Jesus, the Messiah, the anointed one (see Is. 61:1).

The oil serves as a point of reference to build faith. We are declaring that repentance has taken place, the enemy has been renounced, and now, with the authority of Jesus’ name and because of the power of His death and resurrection, the yoke of bondage is broken. “The yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil” (Is. 10:27).

At this point of breaking, a struggle begins and ends. It is the primary place of confrontation with the enemy, and now the light of Jesus is shining where darkness once ruled. The enemy has been found out and cast out.

It is a great time of freedom and joy. I have seen multiplied thousands of people set free by this simple application of God’s Word.

Our Authority in Christ

However, it is crucially important for believers going into battle to be aware of their authority in Christ. Deliverance is not a benign activity. We are dealing with disobedient spirits. These demons will use any opportunity to bluff, intimidate, lie or oppose.

I have very little faith in my own ability. But I know Jesus, and I am convinced that when He said He was giving us authority, He was telling the truth. “‘And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues'” (Mark 16:17).

Jesus commended the centurion who believed that if Jesus gave the word, his servant would be healed. This centurion understood authority and knew the power of the one giving the healing command.

We must also understand and believe in this authority. It is not a haughty authority but a humble, honest response to who Jesus is and what He has done.

In the natural realm, the reason we stop our car when the lights on a police car are flashing behind us is not because of who’s inside but because of what he represents.

The officer in that car may be on the job for the first day. He might be slight of build. He might not be feeling well. Yet, if he flashes his lights, we stop.

Why? He represents the law. He is coming in the name of the law. If we resist, we are resisting to our own calamity. The entire judicial system will back up the police officer.

In the spiritual realm, our authority is derived not from our own strength but from the one who granted it to us. Our authority is no less because we’re new at it or because we’re young or frail or not very wise. Spiritual authority depends not upon us but upon Him.

Deliverance prayer is so different from what people are used to. Normally when praying for someone else, we close our eyes, bow our heads and speak words of encouragement and blessing.

When praying deliverance, our eyes are wide open, looking at the one to whom we’re ministering, watching for any signs of struggle, sorrow, anger or other emotion. Our words are not directed to God; we are launching a frontal attack against the enemy.

We are coming against whatever demon has deceived and manipulated the one in front of us. This is a brand-new experience for many.

During our training sessions for those being prepared to minister deliverance, we explain the authoritative tone of warfare prayer with this word-picture: Imagine a child you love standing in front of you. Now picture a ravenous dog, snarling and baring its teeth, approaching to harm this child.

How would you respond? Would you gently say: “Go away, little dog. Please don’t bother us”? Would you simply wave your hand at it and go on walking?

No, certainly not. Most of us would look for a rock or a stick and, with a loud voice, would threaten the dog with violence. We’d pick up the child and defend him with our own life, if necessary.

In the very same way demons have ravaged God’s people. Like mad dogs, they have sought to steal, kill and destroy.

A righteous anger is appropriate when coming against such evil forces. Boldness to confront and put to flight is quite in order.

I’m not speaking about volume but rather a focused and assertive intensity–looking the enemy in the face and making it clear that you know your authority in Christ and will accept no compromise. The demon must leave!

You have the authority to roust the enemy from your own life as well as the lives of others.

Compassion in Action

But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. – Matthew 9:36

TO BE COMPASSIONATE IS TO DO WHAT JESUS DID

Matthew 4:24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

Compassion. That’s the one thing people need more than anything else in this world. They need someone to reach out to them with the compassion of God.

Compassion is a deep yearning that responds to the needs of people. It’s much deeper than sympathy. Sympathy can just sit around feeling sorry for people. Compassion has to do something for them.

Compassion is what motivates God, and Jesus’ life on earth was a picture of that compassion in action. His whole ministry was driven by it. It was compassion that caused Him to multiply the loaves and fishes, heal the sick, cast out demons and raise the dead. It was compassion that compelled Him to go to the Cross. And it’s that same compassion that He now longs to pour out through you.

That’s a staggering thought, isn’t it?

It’s staggering to realize that we believers are the only body Jesus has on this earth now. His healing must flow through our hands and our faith. His compassion must move us to provide for the hungry. It must compel us to cast out demons and set the captives free.

“But, I don’t have that kind of compassion!”

Yes, you do. If you have the Spirit of God dwelling inside you, you do– because He is that kind of love! You simply need to activate it.

How? Just like Jesus did when He walked the earth. Through prayer and fellowship with the Father. Look through the Gospels and notice how much time Jesus spent alone with the Father. That time activated the compassion of God within Him. It caused Him to feel what God feels about the suffering of mankind. It stirred Him so much that whenever He encountered a need, He met it by the power of God.

Follow His example. Spend time in fellowship with your Father. Meditate on His compassion until it rises up strong on the inside of you. Stir it up until the desire to see others set free becomes paramount in your thinking.

Jesus has sent you to reach out and touch a love-starved world with His compassion.

The Greek Word for Compassion means “to be moved to pity in one’s inward parts” “specifically from the heart”. This means that it is caused or developed in us by the Holy Spirit when after we have received forgiveness for our sin and we have a new heart which, like a new wine skin, receives the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. This means that as the Holy Spirit removes the “works of the flesh” (Gal. 5: 19 – 21) and replaces them with the “fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5: 22 – 23).

Compassion is then developed as we cooperate with the Holy Spirit and seek His guidance which is motivated be the “fruit” (singular) like an orange has sections, all of which working together develops compassion for the needs of other people. However, even Spirit-filled people can resist the feeling of compassion when they decide that others do not deserve or earned compassion. The result, of course, is that they place themselves under condemnation.

For instance, in Matthew 18: 27, the king has pity (same Greek word for compassion) upon the servant who could not pay back his debt. When that now forgiven servant confronts a fellow servant who owed him a very small debt compared to the $Billions that he had just been forgiven, he would not have patience with him and had him arrested and thrown into jail. When the king hears this, he calls back the servant that he had forgiven his debt. He said to him, “You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; and should not you have had mercy (pity, compassion) on your fellow servant as I had mercy (pity, compassion) on you?”

So, here was a man who had spent time with his king (Heavenly Father; Jesus) and he had no compassion because he did not have a “new heart and a new Spirit”. To have compassion: pity , we need the Holy Spirit to develop it in us. And, like Paul said to Timothy because he had fear when he did not cooperate with the Holy Spirit, he told Timothy, “Hence I remind you, to stir up the Gift (charisma) of God which you received with the laying on of my hands” (2 Tim. 1: 6 – 7). It is as we follow the direction of our Counsellor everyday, praying in tongues, about everything (Eph. 6; 18), the Holy Spirit develops the fruit of the Spirit which develops the character of Jesus in us so that we can show compassion as Jesus did to the man and to us. Jesus had compassion because He was led by the Holy Spirit to do the ministry for which He had been born. “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil” (Matt. 4: 1; Mk. 1: 12 – 13; Lk. 4: 1). Every time we are led by the Holy Spirit and do the works of Jesus (Jn. 14: 12) and His Father (Matt. 12: 50). So, it is our cooperation with the Holy Spirit that He develops “compassion” for the lost sheep.

Through Our Weaknesses

One of the greatest examples in the Bible of God’s grace in action is in Paul’s life and the thorn in his flesh

To keep me from being puffed up and too much elated by the exceeding greatness (preeminence) of these revelations, there was given me a thorn (a splinter) in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to rack and buffet and harass me, to keep me from being excessively exalted (2 Cor. 12:7 AMP).

The Word is very clear that Paul’s thorn was from Satan. It says “…there was given me a thorn (a splinter) in the flesh, a messenger of Satan…” (vs. 7). It was Satan who was trying to keep Paul from being too highly exalted by the awesomeness of what had been revealed to him – not God!

At this point, I think we need to clarify a misconception that has been taught in the church for centuries. Satan knew because of Paul’s dramatic conversion, healing, revelation knowledge, and the anointing that was so powerful on his life, that Paul was a major threat to the kingdom of darkness. Satan knew that he must use all of his resources to destroy this man and his ministry. According to 2 Corinthians 12:7, Satan sent and assigned a messenger (fallen angel, demonic spirit) to torment Paul continually. Satan did not want Paul to be exalted in the ministry that laid the foundation for the Church.

“Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me” (2 Corinthians 2:8). Three different times Paul pleaded and begged God to make the thorn go away. God didn’t ignore Paul. He just answered him and said: “My grace is enough for you; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in your weakness”(2 Corinthians 12:9 AMP).

God knew that if He just took away the thorn (the messenger from Satan), then Paul would not understand and experience the concept of the power of grace working through him to strengthen him to do the supernatural. God also knew that when Paul overcame the thorn through God’s grace and by God’s strength, that the thorn would no longer have any effect on Paul.

If God took the messenger from Satan away, then Paul would have had to petition God every time he was attacked. If God empowered Paul to resist the devil by grace, then Paul would be continuously empowered and protected. Through this, Paul was strengthened in grace and authority.

When you are facing a situation you don’t want to face and the only solution you can see is for God to just take it away, then realize that God’s grace is there to enable you to overcome the situation, so that it no longer can affect you negatively. It will have no power over you.

God’s grace and strength empowers you to overcome the evil one and his attacks: “So you, my son, be strong (strengthened inwardly) in the grace (spiritual blessing) that is [to be found only] in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1 AMP).

Time To Use Your Authority

15 And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.
16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it…

The problem with the body of Christ today is not that we are not praying. We are praying. But many of us are praying desperate prayers. We are praying, “God, help… God, please… God, do something about my problem!”

If you are smiling a little by now, most likely, you know about such prayers and might have prayed a couple yourself. My friend, God does not want you to pray pleading prayers all the time. He wants you to use the authority He has given you to pray powerful prayers, to boldly command and to “stretch out your hand” and see miracles happen.

When Moses stood before the Red Sea with Pharaoh’s army in hot pursuit, the Bible tells us that he cried out to God. But God told him, “Why do you cry to Me?”

There is a time for you to cry out to God and there is a time for you to use your authority. God told Moses, “Tell the children of Israel to go forward. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it.”

The “rod” you have today is the name of Jesus. As you command in Jesus’ name, your “sea” will open and you will go on dry ground through the midst of your problem.

Do you realize that Jesus did not say, “Go and pray for the sick”? He said, “Go and heal the sick.” (Matthew 10:8) So stop pleading and asking all the time, and start using the authority you have in Christ.

Jesus told the church, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore…” (Matthew 28:18–19) My friend, God wants you to go and use the authority that He has given you. And as you go, miracles will flow!

Genesis 3:13 And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Genesis 29:25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?”

Genesis 31:7 Yet your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.

It is in the character of demons and people to deceive men which started in the Garden of Eden when the serpent deceived Eve and paradise was lost. Deception is one of the great tools of the devil that he uses on all people including Christians. Deception is always present in one’s relationship with a familiar spirit even though the person is not aware it is a familiar spirit but thinks it’s just an idea or thought. The person having a familiar spirit may not recognize that it is a spirit entity with whom he is having a relationship. He may think that his experiences are only within his imaginations and fantasies or part of his personality.

God’s people need to repent and renounce all familiar spirits that have entered their lives through whatever means possible and be delivered from all the lies and deceptions of familiar spirits by the power and anointing of God. Here is a suggested prayer.

Satan, I renounce you, and I take back all the ground that I ever yielded to you. God is my source of wisdom, knowledge, guidance, victory, strength and power. In Jesus name I declare total and complete victory over every enemy!  You familiar spirit, leave me, in the name of Jesus. Lord Jesus, I belong to You. You have saved me and redeemed me by Your blood. I have need of no spirit other than The Holy Spirit. Forgive me for having sought from other spirits that which should only come from You. I renounce and separate myself from all familiar spirits, however acquired. I call upon You, Lord, to deliver me from the lies and deceptions of familiar spirits, all the works and wiles of the enemy  and to heal me of all their works and all things. Teach me Your truth and Your ways. It is my earnest desire to walk in Your will and to glorify Your name. Amen.

Father God, You are the wonder-working God. I come boldly before Your throne of mercy and grace seeking healing for my body, blessings in my finances and total victory over every enemy. Deliver me from every bondage and enemy. Heal me from every infirmity. Guard me from all forces of darkness. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness by Your precious blood. Remove every fear from my heart and let Your divine light shine in my heart. Grant me the strength of Your divine spirit and strengthen me.   Lord Your word says that You are the God that heals us of all our diseases, all our sickness, redeem us from destruction, gives us victory over all our enemies and satisfy us with good things and my enemies would flee from me seven ways.  You said that You would take my sickness away from me, bless me coming in and going out and I would thread the high places of my enemies.  Your word says that You desire above all things that we prosper and be in good health.  Therefore I know that it is Your will for me to be in good health.  Therefore, in the name of Jesus, I come against this spirit of infirmity and spirit of poverty that is trying to overtake me, and render it helpless in the mighty name of Jesus.  Father in the name of Jesus, I bind every spirit of sickness and disease, every spirit of infirmity, and every other demonic spirit that the enemy is trying to use against my life in any way.  By the authority of Jesus Christ, I pull down every stronghold of the adversary against my body, and command him to flee from every area of my body, as well as my life and my finances, in the name of Jesus.  Satan I render You helpless, powerless, and ineffective against my body and my finances in the name of Jesus.   For greater is He that is in me that he that is in the world, therefore You will not overcome me, for I have overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of my testimony, and I say to You “ BY THE STRIPES OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH I AM HEALED, BLESSED AND MADE PERFECT, WHOLE AND COMPLETE!

Yes, the greatest enemy of all of God’s people is deception. Whether it is self-deception or general malice it is still deception.  The only way to avoid this deception is to get on our knees humble ourselves and admit we are wrong and unworthy of God. Then, with God we can build on this foundation, restructuring our lives into something that will be profitable, pliable and usable.

Deception is never a blessing to those who are deceived by it and many times results in tragedy, sorrow, loss and even death. Unfortunately today in our society both politicians and preachers are great deceivers and cannot be trusted. Only God’s word and the Holy Spirit should be trusted in all things. God’s word is true:

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.  For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.  I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.  And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.  1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.  For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:12-16

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 1 John 2:20

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 1 John 2:27

Since Satan is the great deceiver and even Christians can be deceived it is possible and it happens to men that they are deceived and led away from the truth without knowing it. If the person being deceived knew they were being deceived, then deception would not have occurred. One must believe that one is not deceived in order to be deceived. It is just that simple.

And Christians get deceived with they put their own perspective on things instead of God’s and when they seek their own kingdom instead of God’s! The word of God tells us in Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.  So what may seem right, can lead to death because the consequence of sin is death.  In other words a Christian can be confident that he or she is serving the Lord when he is actually deceived. This is because what we do  things that “seems to be right” in our eyes.

It is a very sad thing when the glory of God has departed due to deception or willful sin from a person, a church or a denomination.  Just because a person or a group of people started out serving God, being led by the Holy Spirit and continuing  in His Word,  doesn’t mean they will not fall away or be deceived when God’s blessings will be abundant and they begin to rely on their own strength, wisdom and power rather than God’s strength, wisdom or power.

Jesus Christ and Apostle Paul both taught on the importance of not being deceived and being aware of false prophets and wolves including a strong warning “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.”

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.  “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?  “Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.  “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.  “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.   “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:15-23

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.   For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says:  “Awake, you who sleep,  Arise from the dead,  And Christ will give you light.” Ephesians 5:6-14

If deception of Christians by empty words of deceivers were not possible then Apostle Paul would not warn Christians about it or that because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience and also tells us do not be partakers with them.

And scriptures doesn’t tell us that exposing the unfruitful works of darkness which are done by the sons of disobedience is wrong bur rather children of light are to become aware of them, expose them and to have no fellowship with the perpetrators of  evil, lies, deception and wickedness many of whom are goats not sheep! And God’s word is true:

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:  ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;  ‘I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’  “Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’  “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:41-46

Jesus taught that the goats who did not give him food when He was hungry, give him drink when He was thirsty, take Him in when He was a stranger, clothe Him when He was naked, visit Him when He was sick and in prison would go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. Yes, all those who did not minister to the least of one of these are unrighteous. And since Jesus wrote the rules and enforces them, they are in deep trouble.

Yes, Jesus taught that all His words were not to be ignored or there would be serious consequences.  He also told us to beware of men who would come as wolves in sheep’s clothing and would teach the doctrine of men as commandments of God (Matthew 16:9).

It’s to be noted that Jesus Christ Himself in the power of the Holy Spirit, the greater one in us, has now become for us wisdom from God-and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. When we understand this truth and humbly act on it we shall never be the same nor defeated or deceived any more. And the deception of men is that they think they are so wonderful when they are not. They think they can achieve anything without God. They built great towers and monuments to themselves and then ask why He is upset with their inventions. They don’t understand they were doing it to exalt themselves and forgot their Creator. They forgot to worship Him, to thank Him, to love Him for who He is to them. They forgot their Lord and Savior.  Deception and demonization of Christians today is the norm rather than the exception. Because they are not walking in the power of God’s might and His truth and are not putting on the armor of God, or standing in all the promises of God, today’s Christendom is demonized, anemic, impotent, incompetent and fearful just like the children of Israel were when they came out of Egypt and never went into the Promised Land. They are more full of fear than they are full of faith and that is a fact!

It’s also a fact that Christians who are demonized and have familiar spirits living in them including the spirit of infirmity and deception, cannot deliver others until they themselves are delivered. It’s a fact that Jesus spent fifty percent of his ministry time casting out demons, and today’s Apostate Christians allow familiar spirits to run rampant in their own lives, churches  and society. Sickness of any kind in God’s people should not be tolerated but dealt with including the spirits that cause cancer, diabetes’s, mental breakdowns, etc. You cannot give others victory until you have victory yourself but God’s word is unchanging:

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” ‘ Revelation 2:17

“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Revelation 3:5

“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. And I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name. Revelation 3:12

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

nor give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27

Satan is real and alive and well on planet earth. He has many names including the deceiver, the thief, the liar, the father of lies, the devil and a murderer. Jesus told The Pharisees “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44).

Satan is not a lion but Jesus Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David (Revelations 5:5). But Satan walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. He has many weapons including deception and appealing to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. And Apostle Paul and James tell us that Christian can give place to the devil:

Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.  Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.  But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.  This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.  For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.  But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.  James 3:13-17

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”   Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:6-7

“Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk  2:4

“For we walk by faith, not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7.

Walking by faith means that we base everything we do in life upon what God says because we believe Him. In fact, we believe Him so deeply that everything we say, everywhere we go, every action we take, and every thought in our mind aligns itself with what God says.

A truth we find threaded through God’s Word is that everything a Christian receives, he must believe for it first. Before we receive salvation, we must believe for salvation. God searches over the earth looking for those who will believe Him. And when He finds someone who believes Him, then He rewards them because God is a rewarder of those who believe that He is and diligently seek Him.

We must also live our lives based on the truth of God’s Word instead of the facts that are found in the world. We act on the promise instead of the problem. We walk in the truth instead of deception and we walk in the light instead of darkness. We must walk in love instead of hate. God’s word is unchanging:

Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.   Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law Romans 13:7-10

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. Galatians 5:6
