The Mind Of Christ

“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns-broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13

The word of God tells us that we are called to have the mind of Christ daily and constantly. Hence we are to trust God’s spirit and no other and not other men! God’s word is unchanging:

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.1 Corinthians 2:12-16

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.  The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.  His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,  Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;  But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.  Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist. Isaiah 11:1-5

“The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary.   He awakens Me morning by morning,  He awakens My ear  To hear as the learned. The Lord GOD has opened My ear;  And I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn away. Isaiah 50:4-5

God is on line to all who care to listen to Him in the early hours of the morning. For those who are attune to the Spirit and walk in God’s ways the Lord gives them the tongue of the learned that they may know how to speak a word in season to him who is wary. He opens their ears to hear as the learned of all that He has to speak to them morning by morning before the bustle, cares, worries and anxiety of life drown things out.

Worries and anxieties are no different than the sins of adultery or sickness; they must be fought against because they rob God’s people access to the voice of God, which is their secret for sweat less triumph. Heaviness, discouragement, or anxiety is a spirit that robs God’s people of His presence, promises and peace and makes them to be a prey in the devil’s hands. Heaviness, discouragement, or anxiety takes them out of their Father’s house (like the prodigal son), and places there where the enemy can flog them. God’s word is unchanging:

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;  “and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  Matthew 6:25-30

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things. Phillipains 4:6-8

For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:12-16

The carnal mind is enmity with God for it cannot please God. The mind is a battlefield which the enemy tries in infiltrate with many things including negative thoughts and dreams. But God’s people can put on the mind of Christ and think and meditate on whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report.  Nature abhors vacuum. Our mind is never on break; it is either charged with concerns of things of this life or overtaken with affection for the kingdom. Rather than being anxious and concerned with the things of this world, it is be concerned with the things of God and of His kingdom, so every other thing can be “added to you.” God’s word is unchanging:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew  6:33

“But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Luke 12:21

Blessed is the man  Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;  But his delight is in the law of the LORD,  And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season,  Whose leaf also shall not wither;  And whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:1-3

Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.  Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. 1 Timothy 4:15

The brain is always engaged, either positively or negatively. All we need to do is to make our choice on what occupies our mind and it should be the word of God. Prosperity is promised to those who delight in the word of God and meditate on it day and night.  When we mediate on something it goes from the realm of the mind which is just usually intellect ascent to the realm of our heart where it becomes faith and moves the mountains out in our lives when it is authoritatively spoken out. Yes, when the word of God is mixed with faith and acted on God’s miracle working power is released to bring about great change. The power in the Word is only released through the process of meditation. Until we ponder on the truth contained in the Word, get an understanding of that Word, and act on it, we cannot display miracles, signs and wonders. God’s word is unchanging:

Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16

The word meditate means “to consider deeply, to reflect upon, to revolve in the mind.” It is akin to the physical process of food digestion. Food when eaten undergoes three major processes before the nutrients in it can benefit the body. They are: digestion, absorption and assimilation. Often we think that the taste of food in the mouth and its weight in the stomach is all that there is to food. But until these three processes take place, food taken in offers no value to the body.

Similarly, until the Word of God we hear or read is broken down to assimilable forms and we contact the gems in it, our life can not be bettered by it. The meditation process is what breaks down the Word into assimilable forms, equipping us to walk on the highways of the miraculous. It’s the word of God that breaks into pieces the different rocks in our lifes. God’s word is true:

“Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak;  And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.  Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew,  As raindrops on the tender herb, And as showers on the grass. For I proclaim the name of the LORD: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He. Deuteronomy 32:4

Then David spoke to the LORD the words of this song, on the day when the LORD had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And he said: “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence.  I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. 2 Samuel 22:1-4

“Is not My word like a fire?” says the LORD, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? Jeremiah 23:29

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:  “and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Matthew 7:24-24

TWO EVILS

20111125I Was Hungry

“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns-broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah  2:13

A simple perusal of the word of God and the teachings and statements of Christian denominations especially concerning apostles, prophets, gifts of the spirit, judgment and justice will reveal major differences between the words of Jesus and those of Christian leaders.  Yet God’s word is unchanging:

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. “All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. “And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.

“Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:  ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;  ‘I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?  ‘When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?  ‘Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’

“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:  ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;  ‘I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ “Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew  25:31-46

Blind ones refuse to see the needs of others and anemic ones are in no position to help them. It is also a fact that you can be religious and go to church and never minister to the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick or prisoner. According to Jesus many scribes and Pharisees do just that and He has promised to vomit them out of His mouth:

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘  These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.  “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

“Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’-and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked-  “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.  “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ‘ ” Revelations 3:14-22

It is a fact that before you vomit something out you must digest it first? In others words God had accepted the Christians at the church of the Laodiceans to be His people.  Because they thought themselves to be a rich, had become wealthy, and had need of nothing’ but in reality did not know that they were wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked, He counseled them to buy from Him gold refined in the fire, so that they might be rich; and white garments, so  that they  might be clothed, that the shame of their nakedness may not be revealed; and to anoint their  eyes with eye salve, so that might may their true condition. Otherwise He would vomit them out of His mouth if they were not zealous and did not repent.  But if they would hear God’s voice and open the door He would come in to dine with them and they with Him. For to him who overcomes will Jesus grant to sit with Him on His throne, as He had also overcome and sat down with His Father on His throne. Therefore He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches including:

“And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘  These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.

“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. “Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

“You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.  “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ‘ Revelations 3:1-6

Yes there are many churches and even denominations that have a name that they are alive but they are dead. Their works are not perfect before God. They must remember their first love and hold fast to it and to repent. Otherwise if they do not overcome they shall not be clothed in white garments and Jesus Christ will blot their name from the Book of Life and He will not confess their name before His  Father and His angels. So much for the doctrine of demons of “Once Saved, Always Saved!.” Nevertheless the word of Jesus are unchanging and are to be heeded and obeyed:

Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?”

Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.  ‘And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.  “And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.  “And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after that no one dared question Him. Matthew 12:28-34

It’s possible to know and believe everything about the bible including all its doctrines and not obey the first and second commandment of God and to go to hell. Fools do it all the time including the devil.

You can believe that God is the Eternal, infinite, unchangeable, perfect in holiness, wisdom, goodness, justice, power and love and still not obey Him? You can believe that from all eternity He exists as the One Living and True God in three persons of one substance, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory and still murder, lie and steal? Why there are even pastors and preachers who do these kinds of things and yet they believe and say the different Christian creeds.

You can believe that God’s kingdom is everlasting and that from His throne, through His Son, His eternal Word, God created, upholds and governs all that exists including the heavenly places, the angelic hosts, the universe, the earth, every living thing and mankind  and that He created all things very good and still not trust Him to get your needed miracle?

You can believe that Satan, originally a great, good angel, rebelled against God, taking a host of angels with him and He was cast out of God’s presence and, as a usurper of God’s rule, established a counter-kingdom of darkness and evil on the earth and still be deceived by Him and accept unknowingly doctrine of demons, such as “Once saved, always saved!”

You can believe that God created mankind in His own image, male and female, for relationship with Himself and to govern the earth and that under the temptation of Satan, our original parents fell from grace, bringing sin,  sickness and God’s judgment of death to the earth and through the fall, Satan and his demonic hosts gained access to God’s good creation and live in defeat and failure and not manifest the victories of the cross in your life?

You can believe that Jesus came into the world, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin as fully God and fully man in one person, was anointed as God’s Messiah and empowered by the Holy Spirit, to resist temptation, preach the good news of salvation, heal the sick, cast out demons  and raise the dead and not do the works that Jesus did?

You can believe what ever you want to believe about the bible, the old and new testament and not love your neighbor as yourself?  You can graduate from Seminary, call yourself a Christian  and reject the “Baptism of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit” and be a blind one leading the blind?

You can be very sincere and religious and still go to hell for not obeying the teachings of Jesus on certain matters as being reconciled to an offended brother or not being a respecter of persons?

The things that people believe are one thing and the things that they say and do, as Christians, are another thing. This dichotomy or contradiction is very common in the lives of many people who call themselves Christians and yet they think that somehow God will make all things right for them because after all they are sincere and presumptive on His grace and they are His children? But God’s word is unchanging:

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,   all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,  all ate the same spiritual food,  and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.   But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.  And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”  Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;  nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;   nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.  Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.  No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.   Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:1-14

God, who knows the hearts of all men, gives His grace to those who really need it, but no one fools Him. Those who continue to lie and deceive themselves and others that they are Christians, even though their actual behavior is against the word of God, will find themselves in places they never expected to be. Neither Peter nor Judas asked the LORD for forgiveness of their sin of betraying Jesus. But the LORD forgave Peter for betraying Him before men but He never forgave Judas for the same sin.  For God’s word is unchanging:

So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”

He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”

He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”  Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.”  This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.”

Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?”

Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”

Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” John 21:15-22

TWO EVILS

AA

“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns-broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13

Down through the centuries men have not changed. They do not want to reap what they have sown and want to reap what they have not sown. They do not understand the words of Jesus who told them:

“Judge not, that you be not judged. “For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.  “And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?  “Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:1-5

Men do not understand that the judgment they judge others will be applied to them and the measure they measure to others will be measured to them. Men have always judged others and will continue to do the same until the end of time. But they have not judged properly as Jesus did in the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. For God’s word is true:

Jesus and God’s true ones do not judge by the sight of their eyes nor decide by the hearing of their ears. But with righteousness they shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth. They shall strike the earth with the rod of their mouth, and with the breath of their lips they shall slay the wicked. We have a classic example of this kind of judgment in the Word of God concerning King David and his secret adulterous sin with Bathsheba. God’s word records:

Then the LORD sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor.  “The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds.  “But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him.

“And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”  So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this shall surely die!  “And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.” 2 Samuel 12:1-6

David ignorantly in judging the story which Prophet Nathan relayed to him had pronounced his own judgment on himself.  For men are so quick to judge others harshly for the crimes that they themselves are guiltier off.   Mind you there are things which God does not forgive just like he did not forgive King David for his secret devious sin which dishonored His great name.  God’s word records:

Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. ‘I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more!  ‘Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon.

‘Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’  “Thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.  ‘For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’ ” 2 Samuel 12:7-12

At least David had the wisdom when he was exposed not to deny his sin but to face up to it, confess it and accept his consequences.  For God’s word is true:

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.  But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 1 John 1:5-10

Mind you there are foolish prominent leaders in America who when their secret sins were exposed refused to acknowledge them and to accept their consequences.  As a result these deceived ones in whom the truth was not in them did not prosper and their consequences were quite severe. For God still rules and reigns in the Kingdom of men and His word is true:

For His dominion is an everlasting dominion,  And His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing;  He does according to His will in the army of heaven  And among the inhabitants of the earth.  No one can restrain His hand  Or say to Him, “What have You done?”
At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. My counselors and nobles resorted to me, I was restored to my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down. Daniel 4:34-37

Those who walk in pride God is able to put down.  However!  King David’s consequences were also not pleasant ones. The sword never departed from his house God raised up adversity against him from his own household. David did things secretly but God did things openly.  The Lord was really upset for David’s stupid sin for it was not only the sin of adultery but of lack of faith and trust in God, the source of David’s total supply. The Lord who  anointed David king over Israel,  delivered him from the hand of Saul,  gave him his master’s house and his  master’s wives into his  keeping,  gave him the house of Israel and Judah would have also  have given David  much more if that had been too little!

The Lord is good and a Great God but He gets very upset when His people lean to their own understanding and wisdom and put their trust in others and not in Him and curses them with “Woe!”. His word is true to such as these:

“Woe to the rebellious children,” says the LORD,  “Who take counsel, but not of Me,  And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit,  That they may add sin to sin;  Who walk to go down to Egypt,  And have not asked My advice,  To strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh,  And to trust in the shadow of Egypt!
Therefore the strength of Pharaoh  Shall be your shame,  And trust in the shadow of Egypt  Shall be your humiliation.  For his princes were at Zoan,  And his ambassadors came to Hanes.  They were all ashamed of a people who could not benefit them,  Or be help or benefit,  But a shame and also a reproach.” Isaiah 30:1-5

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help,  And rely on horses,  Who trust in chariots because they are many,  And in horsemen because they are very strong,  But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel,  Nor seek the LORD!    Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster,  And will not call back His words,  But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of those who work iniquity.
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God;  And their horses are flesh, and not spirit.  When the LORD stretches out His hand,  Both he who helps will fall,  And he who is helped will fall down;  They all will perish together.  Isaiah 31:1-3

” For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns — broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13

So David and the others of our day in reality had committed two evils in their sin. They had forsaken God the fountain of living waters and the source of their total supply and hewn themselves cisterns and broken cisterns which do not hold water and do not give a solution to their problems.  Men even this day do not change.  They left their first love and wonder why God is upset at them. But His word is true to such as these:

“To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘   These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; “and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.  “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
“Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place-unless you repent. “But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ‘  Revelation 2:1-7
