SOUTHERN BAPTISTS ARE CRAZY

Under the new rules, speaking in tongues does not disqualify missionary candidates. Too much emphasis on charismatic gifts, like speaking in tongues, could still lead to discipline“

…within the professing Christian church at least as many people need deliverance from evil spirits as need healing from sickness and that’s about eighty per cent.” (Derek Prince’s – `How Jesus dealt with demons’.) James told us that Christians can be influenced by a wisdom that is earthly sensual demonic and where exist confusion and every evil work

SCRIPTURES TELLS US TO EXPOSE THE HIDDEN WORKS OF DARKNESS AND WHY BAPTISTS DON’T COME TO THE LIGHT LEST THEIR DEEDS BE EXPOSED?

John 3:20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
14 Therefore He says: ” Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light

YES WE ARE TO WALK IN THE LIGHT OF GOD AND HIS WORD AND NOT IN DARKNESS. WE ARE TO DEPART FROM THE TENTS OF THESE WICKED MEN LESS WE BE CONSUMED IN ALL THEIR SINS – OTHER WISE WE WILL PARTAKE OF THEIR JUDGMENTS IN THE CURRENT TIMES OF LIFE AND OUR PRAYERS FOR PROSPERITY WILL BE HINDERED

Numbers 16
24 “Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’ ”

26 And he spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart now from the tents of these wicked men! Touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins.”

International Mission Board Drops Ban on Speaking in Tongues
New rules also loosen restrictions on baptism, divorce, and parents of teens.

International Mission Board Drops Ban on Speaking in Tongues

International Missionary Board President David Platt

For more than a decade, the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board (IMB) disqualified candidates who spoke in tongues or who had been baptized in churches that disagreed with the convention’s view of baptism.

Similar rules barred divorced people or those with teenagers from being missionaries.

That changed Wednesday, when the IMB’s trustees, at the prompting of their new president David Platt, approved a new, simplified set of rules for the agency’s more than 4,800 missionaries.

Missionary candidates must affirm the doctrines found in the Baptist Faith and Message statement of beliefs, be baptized by immersion, be a member of a SBC church, and demonstrate an “intimate, growing relationship with Christ.”

Previous rules required would-be missionaries to have been baptized in an SBC church, or in a church that held SBC-like beliefs about baptism. Candidates baptized in a church that did not believe in eternal security—the idea that true Christians can’t lose their salvation even if they sin–or a church that views baptism is a sacrament were rejected.

The new rules allows those who were baptized by immersion and who are members of an SBC church to be candidates.

The changes also address the question of charismatic worship and prayer practices, which have been controversial for Southern Baptists. Under the previous rules, candidates who spoke in tongues or had a “private prayer language” were barred.

Under the new rules, speaking in tongues does not disqualify missionary candidates. Too much emphasis on charismatic gifts, like speaking in tongues, could still lead to discipline.

“IMB may still end employment for any missionary who places ‘persistent emphasis on any specific gift of the Spirit as normative for all or to the extent such emphasis becomes disruptive’ to Southern Baptist missions work,” according to a FAQ about the new rules posted by IMB.

Divorced candidates have been allowed to serve in short missions. Now they will be eligible to serve as long-term missionaries, depending on the circumstances of their divorce and other factors, such as the culture they will work in.

Parents of teenagers will also be potential candidates. The IMB had previously disqualified them out of concerns for the challenges that teens would face by being uprooted and having to move overseas. Now IMB leaders will decided on a case-by-cases basis whether or not to allow parents with teens.

“For example, a family considering serving long-term in an isolated African village may be different than a family considering a one-year term in London,” says the FAQ.

The changes in rules on baptism and speaking in tongues will likely get the most attention. They made national headlines when first adopted.

IMB leaders said the baptism and tongues rules, adopted in 2005, were needed to safeguard the Baptist identity of missionaries at a time when charismatic and Pentecostal practices were growing.

Tom Hatley, former IMB board chair, told CT in 2006 that some missionary candidates who spoke in tongues—a practice also known by the New Testament term glossolalia—claimed to be getting direct revelation from God.

“That’s one reason that Southern Baptists have been suspicious of glossolalia,” Hatley told CT in 2006. “If somebody believes they’re getting direct divine revelation from God, obviously that’s claiming an equality with Scripture that we would not allow.

Tonya Dalton All the man made rules and fights over doctrines need to be surrendered to God and allow him to be in control.

THE BIBLE COMMANDS THAT ALL CHRISTIANS PURSUE LOVE AND DESIRE SPIRITUAL GIFTS. TO PREACH OTHERWISE IS THE PREACH HERESY! YES SOUTHERN BAPTISTS ARE HERETICS!

Ebert said that if a NAMB missionary’s views on speaking in tongues became disruptive—if, for example, they claimed it was necessary for all Christians—that would be an issue. Otherwise, the board tries to stick with the beliefs approved by the SBC.

1CORINTHIANS 14:1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

37 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

When the great missionary to the gentiles Apostle Paul stated “I wish you all spoke with tongues” he of course claimed it was necessary for all Christians. And according to Southern Baptist Ebert speaking in tongues became disruptive— Hogwash!

ELEVATION CHURCH

AC ELEVATION CHURCH IS NOT A TRUE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST BUT A DEAD END

When leaders or coordinators lead  a church or community service, they will have not only led people to salvation and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and they will  pray and have others pray for the different needs of the people.  Like the Apostle Paul who said, “For I long to see you, that I might impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, that is, that we may be mutually encouraged, both yours and mine” (Rom. 1: 11).   Gordon Williams

Elevation Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, is an Interdenominational multi-site church pastored by Steven Furtick. From 2007 through 2010, Elevation was consistently cited by Outreach Magazine as one of the Top 100 fastest growing churches in the United States.  It has been described as “a pop culture-friendly church with an orthodox Christian message”.

The church began as a church plant of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. As part of a church planting team, Furtick and seven other families from Christ Covenant Church in Shelby, North Carolina, relocated to Matthews, meeting in Providence High School.  Over its short history, it has experienced notable growth. On February 5, 2006, the first Sunday worship service, 121 people attended.[5] Since then, the church’s regular attendance has grown to over 15,000, currently meeting in 10 different locations.

At the beginning of 2012, Elevation Church hosted a 12-day “Holy Ghost, Old-School Revival” called ‘Code Orange Revival’ to kick off the year. Guest preachers included LifeChurch.tv founder Craig Groeshel, Jentezen Franklin of Free Chapel, Matt Chandler of The Village Church, Christine Caine of the A21 Campaign, Ed Young Jr. of Fellowship Church, Kevin Gerald of Champion’s Centre, Stovall Weems of Celebration Church, Perry Noble of NewSpring Church, T. D. Jakes of The Potter’s House, James MacDonald of Harvest Bible Chapel, and a special night of worship with Grammy award winner and worship leader of Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church, Israel Houghton.

Several bloggers are also sharing the info-graphic produced by Elevation Church that includes the following statements:

  1. We serve a Lead Pastor who seeks and hears from God.
    3. We serve a Lead Pastor we can trust.
    7. We serve a Lead Pastor who pours into us spiritually and professionally.
    16. We serve a Lead Pastor who goes first.

Pruitt writes, “This is frightening stuff. We have a Lord who came not to be served but to serve (Matt 20:28). And yet at Elevation it is plain that “Pastor Steven” is the boss who expects to be served…I have not read language like that since the last thing I read about North Korea. Why would a church allow such cult-like manipulation?”

Furtick has also come under criticism for his multi-million dollar home and its connection to his salary and book sales, as well as the church’s practice of “Spontaneous Baptisms” where a “laser like focus on numbers” is central and where members are of the congregation are instructed to respond to Furtick’s call to baptism. As Charlotte’s WCNC-TV reported, those who first responded were “not converts suddenly inspired but Elevation volunteers carefully planted in the crowd.  The guide instructs, ‘Fifteen people will sit in the worship experience and be the first ones to move when Pastor gives the call. Move intentionally through the highest visibility areas and the longest walk.’”

News like this calls us to again consider the power of the “Christian celebrity”—a figure so highly elevated that none question his vision—and the cult-like communities they raise. Dr. James Emery White, in his “Cult of Personality” blog post, provides ten signs to watch for when a cult of personality is at work in a local church. A few that strike a chord as we look at Steven Furtick and Elevation Church:

  1. No one is allowed to question the leader without retribution.  There is a “thin skin” evident toward any and all critics, who are often written off as “haters” or simply those who are envious.  There is a bubble that prevents constructive criticism.
  2. The line between “look at what God is doing” and “look at what our leader is doing” is almost non-existent.  In other words, God isn’t getting the glory, an individual is.
  3. The name of the leader and the name of the church are inseparable.  The leader is as much of a brand – or even the brand – as the ministry.

In a true church of Jesus Christ true men and women of God minister to each other by use of God’s word and in the gifts of the Spirit from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share,  causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love according to God’s word.

Ephesians 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

So who can a one man led ministry help, especially in a Baptist church who don’t believe in the Baptism of the Spirit or minister to one another’s needs, be it pastor Steven Furtick or Mark Driscoll, edify the body of Christ to a perfect man to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ when they themselves are nuts, off the wall and heretics? They cannot!

Driscoll’s ministry is a corrupt tree that exhibits the following bad fruits:

  1. Perverse language and corrupt communication

Driscoll frequently uses perverse and crude language. He often mocks Scripture and makes fun of men of God.  He dresses in a casual way that is unworthy of the pulpit.

  1. Sexual licentiousness

Driscoll has frequently said that his favourite book of the Bible is Song of Solomon, and this gives him an opportunity to talk about sex in the most sensuous and irreverent way. His latest book, Real Marriage (2012), deals with self-stimulation, the use of sex toys and forms of cybersex. The most provocative of all involves sodomy within marriage. [Challies blog]

http://www.challies.com/book-reviews/the-driscolls-and-real-marriage

  1. God loves punk-rock music

Worldly punk-rock music forms a major part of Driscoll’s life and ministry. He has referred to hip hop artist Jay-Z as a genius, and referred to Christian rap artist Lecrae as a missionary of the 21st Century.

  1. Jesus loves tattoos

Driscoll’s church proudly supports tattoo artists in their work. The issue of tattoos is discussed on the Mars Hill Downtown Campus under the headline: Jesus Loves Tattoos. Driscoll has no objection to Christian people being tattooed.

  1. Visions of past sins

Driscoll claims that he has the gift of discernment that allows him to see the sins of his congregation.

Yes in my opinion these churches are your foolish typical fundamentalist Baptists part of the Southern Baptists Convention who don’t operate in the gifts of the Spirit, don’t preach the true gospel and hide the exorbitant salary of their pastor:

As I meditated on these questions, the Holy Spirit quickened within my heart something so simple that it literally shocked me. He said, “If the true Gospel were preached and lived with boldness, then My power would be seen as tangibly as it was seen in the book of Acts.” Wow! I was then taken to Acts 4:29–30, where the apostles and early church prayed, “And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word” (v. 29). Through this passage, the Holy Spirit revealed several important things to me that would become the basis for this book. DOWNLOAD AND READ http://halfgospel.com/

A Brash Style That Filled Pews, Until Followers Had Their Fill
Mark Driscoll Is Being Urged to Leave Mars Hill Church

SEATTLE — Mark Driscoll has long been an evangelical bad boy, a gifted orator and charismatic leader who built one of the nation’s most influential megachurches despite, or perhaps fueled by, a foul mouth, a sharp temper and frank talk about sex.

The church he founded, Mars Hill, enjoyed rapid growth in the Pacific Northwest — one of the most secular regions of the nation — and it claims 15,000 members worshiping at 15 campuses in five Western states, and 200,000 more people watching its services online every week. Mr. Driscoll became a celebrity in conservative Christianity, a sought-after speaker and prolific author known for a celebration of masculinity that helped Mars Hill attract young men, a demographic noted in church life mostly for its absence.

But now Mr. Driscoll’s empire appears to be imploding. He has been accused of creating a culture of fear at the church, of plagiarizing, of inappropriately using church funds and of consolidating power to such a degree that it has become difficult for anyone to challenge or even question him. A flood of former Mars Hill staff members and congregants have come forward, primarily on the Internet but also at a protest in front of the church, to share stories of what they describe as bullying or “spiritual abuse,” and 21 former pastors have filed a formal complaint in which they call for Mr. Driscoll’s removal as the church’s leader.

Mr. Driscoll is rapidly becoming a pariah in the world that once cheered him.

AS GORDON WILLIAMS HAS POINTED OUT THAT IN A TRUE CHURCH:

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

We have according to the Word of God in each church service every member being involved and the gifts of the Spirit in operation! The leader or coordinator follows what the Scriptures tell us to do which is to use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit by encouraging people to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit in his meetings.  NO matter what size of a meeting they have, they have to encourage people to use their gift of the Holy Spirit. And, when there are messages in tongues and the interpretation of tongues people will be convicted of their sin and they get saved/baptized with the Holy Spirit.  Prophecy is important as it’s for the encouragement of believers.  All of the gifts of the Holy Spirit draw people to Jesus with the result that people’s needs will be met.

True leaders are not entertainers and never boastful about the numbers that come to their meetings in their crusades.  They that the believer can receive answers to every prayer that is based on God’s Word, as long as he has enough faith and that there is nothing in his life that could be hindering his prayer. They hardly ever talk about money  except ask people to pray and ask Jesus what they should do to help the ministry or the poor and needy.  They never charge any church for their ministry.  They do what Jesus instructed them to do:

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

But they do boast about individuals who have received healings, deliverance, miracles.  They boast about the fact that “My God shall supply all of your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philip 4: 19).

True leaders are to be like the Holy Spirit who is invisible so that people will see only Jesus and, like Paul, will boast about Jesus, the Holy Spirit.  They pastor large or small churches because Jesus tells them where to be.  They start house churches so that everybody can do ministry by being equipped with the 15 Gifts of the Holy Spirit in each fellowship.  It works because that is where Jesus started His Church.  Remember: “And when he returned to Capernaum after some days he was reported to be home (Greek reads “in his house”).  It was His house that the four men brought the paralytic man and cut a hole in the roof so they could drop him down to Jesus and Jesus healed him.   They do not trade the praise of God for the praise of men.  And that is one of the reasons many of those big churches of both sides have been closed by God  because they are run by egotistic self-serving leaders!

When a preacher makes himself bigger that Jesus, then his/her name will be removed from the Book of Life (Rev. 3: 8).   There is no reason to jealous of any of them because they are blinded by numbers and wealth and the praise of men.  If we read Paul’s experience in his testimony in 1 Cor. 11: 7 – 33 and compare it to most big name preachers or evangelists none of them would be in ministry today, if they followed his example.  Those preachers only want to use Scripture that, in the wickedness of their minds, will give them an excuse to be wealthy.    We are not to let them deceive us but seek on God’s will in every area of our lives including the church we attend and the ministries that we attend.

People like to give God the glory but they are not serving the God who through Paul said, “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and hurtful desires that lunge men into ruin and destruction.  For the love of money is the the root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with many pangs.  But for you man of God, shun all this; aim at righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness” (1 Tim. 9 – 11).  All of these people who boast about the numbers of people who have received signs, wonders & miracles exaggerate their own importance.  Jesus keeps the count and anybody who would attempt to steal His glory is condemned.

This is the reason why God told, “Satan stood up against Israel, and incited David to number Israel” (1 Chron. 17: 1).  “But God was displeased with this thing, and  he smote Israel.  And David said to God, “I have sinned greatly in that I have done this thing.  But now, I pray thee take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done foolishly.”  Israel was punished for David’s actions.

Today, we have people (pastors, prophets, evangelists, teachers, so-called apostles) telling us in exaggerated reports of their so-called ministries and when investigators check their statistics, none or very little of what they claimed was true.  By giving their big numbers they are taking God’s glory away from him in their most feigned (faked) demonstrations of humility which is really hidden pride.  That is the reason why nobody know when Jesus is coming back because the number of those who are “a great multitude which no man could number” (Rev. 7: 9).

This is the reason why God is revealing all the sin in these so-called mega churches and TV and radio so-called ministries.  We can never justify sin on the basis of false statistics or misuse of the Scriptures.  You know the most famous lie-covering one is found in 1 Chron. 16: 22, “Touch not my anointed ones, do my prophets no harm!” When people sin, they demonstrate that they have removed themselves from the “anointing of God” and become “the annoying not of God”. The most condemning thing about this is found in 2 Thess. 2: 11, where Paul writes, Therefore God sends upon them a strong delusion, t make them believe what is false, so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”\

AND WALTER KAMBULOW STATED:

Jesus said you don’t put new wine into old wine skins!  The local church is an old wine skin modelled after the pattern in the Old Testament. The home church is the new wine skin where more ministry by the spirit can be done there than in any local church

Yup i hate modern local churches! Did you know that Jesus first church was in his home where the men broke the roof to get their friend to Jesus so he could heal them? And all of apostle pail churches were home churches! I have enjoyed home churches far more than any local church!

Many Evangelicals uphold the idea that the local church should be an independent body, which may ask for advice from outside, but is ultimately autonymous. Local churches may be congregational, where all members voting is the ultimate decision-making body, or elder-led, where the body of elders make spiritual decisions. In both cases there will also be a board, often comprising of elders. And in fact, the methods of government are more overlapping than you think. In an elder-led church, the people will only ever be led by consent, and if they strongly disagree, their vote will be counted as they leave and cancel their financial giving. By the same token most healthy congregations who vote will also surely be heavily influenced by the wisdom of their leaders.

MINISTERING GOD AND HIS GIFTS

AA
WE ARE ALL MINISTERS OF GOD IF WE TRULY ARE CHRISTIANS

More than ever we must take a stand on the Word of God. We must believe what we know and act on what we believe. But in this time of glory, we must be willing to yield to the presence of God.

Here are some things we need to remember about the glory.

1) The glory is the manifested presence of God.

In Luke 9, the glory manifested as a cloud that overshadowed Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. “And a voice came out of the cloud saying, ‘This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!'” (vv. 34-35). Verse 32 tells us that Peter, who was there, was fully awake when he saw the glory.

In John 2, we are told that Jesus manifested His glory when He changed the water into wine. (vv. 9,11.)

When Jesus arrived at Lazarus’ house after his death, He commanded that the stone be removed from the grave. Martha reminded Jesus that Lazarus had been dead for four days and that his body had already begun to decay. Jesus answered her and said that if she would believe, she would see the glory of God. The resurrection of Lazarus was the manifestation of the presence of God. (John 11:1-40.)

2) The glory amplifies God.

Three times in the Book of Acts we are told the story of Saul on the Road to Damascus and his encounter with the glory that converted him from a man of the world to a man of God and from Saul to Paul. In Acts 22:11, Paul said that the light was the glory and we know that out of the light God spoke.

It’s interesting that Jesus said that we are the light of the world. (Matt. 5:14.) And He told us in Matthew 5:16 that our light is to shine in such a way that the world would see our good works and that it will bring glory to the Father.

3) We walk by faith and not by sight.

When Elijah and his servant were surrounded by the enemy, Elijah saw the powerful army of God, but the servant did not see God’s army until his (spiritual) eyes were opened. (2 Kings 6:8-17.) Just because he couldn’t see God’s army did not mean God’s army was not there. God’s presence is not based on what you see. Seek God and His glory will be manifested. Seek Him and His presence will be there. Don’t seek the manifestation. Seek Him.

4) The glory will bring abundance.

Of course there is no lack in the presence of God. We must understand that there can be lying signs and wonders. If we only are seeking the light, we need to understand that Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light. (2 Cor. 11:14.) But if we seek the Father, and get into His presence, then the manifestation of the light will always be His and will never be an illusion.

5) Don’t allow fear to hinder you.

Fear is a spiritual force that Satan uses to spiritually paralyze Christians. Sometimes a fear of what others will think or even a fear of inadequacy in the glory causes some to stand back and observe instead of participating. The problem with becoming a spiritual observer is that many times it opens the door for criticism and criticism blocks the receiving, which creates more criticism.

So rebuke the fear. Stretch out and allow your ministry to be saturated with the glory of God. We are no longer on the brink of the glory. We are no longer waiting for the glory. The glory, the manifested presence of God, is here! As a minister of God, flow in the anointing.

‘Cessationists Are Wrong’ About Speaking in Tongues, Says Pastor Mark Driscoll

Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Wash., recently spoke on the gift of tongues as described in the New Testament as part of his “Acts: Empowered for Jesus’ Mission” sermon series. The conservative Reformed, or New Calvinist, Christian minister laid out his arguments as to why he believes the gift of speaking in tongues did not end with Jesus’ apostles in the first century.

Cessationists, such as influential pastor and traditional Calvinist John MacArthur, believe that 1 Corinthians 13:8 and other Biblical passages indicate that the divine ability to speak in other languages or an unknown tongue (glossolalia) ended with the apostles’ deaths, as did prophetic revelations and faith-healings through individuals. Some Christians, however, believe that these Holy Spirit-inspired gifts will continue until Christ’s return.

In the sermon excerpt shared online this week by Mars Hill Church, Pastor Driscoll tackles three “common questions about the gift of tongues,” listed as: “Can every Christian have the gift of tongues? Does Mars Hill Church believe that the gift of tongues is for today? And what happens when the private use of tongues goes public?”

Before diving into his responses, Driscoll insisted that the only way to know who may be “right” or “wrong” about speaking in tongues was by studying the Scriptures — and “not by taking our experience and making it normative.”

Although the key text for the full sermon, titled “Empowered by the Spirit to Follow Jesus,” was the account of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-13, the megachurch pastor and bestselling author looked to 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 to help frame his responses.

Driscoll relayed a part of the passage: “‘For to one is given through the Spirit . . . various kinds of tongues’ — or languages, heavenly or earthly — ‘to another, the interpretation of tongues’ — the ability to articulate in the other language what has been said in the foreign language. ‘All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.'”

In regard to whether Mars Hill Church believes that the gift of tongues is an ongoing occurrence, Driscoll stated his agreement with cessationism, while also asking the congregation to consider life in heaven.

“When we get to heaven, the gift of evangelism is not going to be as needed as it is now. You’re like, ‘I’m going to go out and find the lost people.’ There aren’t any. This is the kingdom of God. Everybody here already loves Jesus. … So, evangelism comes to an end,” he said, according to the sermon transcript.

He noted 1 Corinthians 13:8-12, which reads: “Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”

“So, we agree with the Cessationists that yes, certain gifts, at least, they’re going to cease. They’re going to cease,” added Driscoll. “Where we disagree with the Cessationists and we agree with the Continuationists is when they cease. We believe that all of the gifts continue until one very important transitionary moment in the history of the world.”

He continued, “So, when do these gifts cease? When? When Jesus comes back, when we see him face to face. So the Cessationists are right: certain gifts will come to an end. But the Cessationists are wrong: the end has not yet come. And the Continuationists are right: all the gifts continue until we see him face to face, until Jesus comes again.”

Mars Hill Church Pastor Mark Driscoll answers three common questions about speaking in tongues.

Some Cessationists, such as Pastor John MacArthur, whose The Master’s Seminary shares the same campus as his Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif., agree with Driscoll’s suggestion that the “perfect” referenced in 1 Corinthians 13:10 speaks of a future eternal state, a period precipitated by Christ’s earthly return. However, the evangelical Christian minister points to other passages he believes serve as strong evidence that “tongues ceased in the apostolic age.” Cessationists also argue that the completion of the New Testament writings made the continuation of charismatic spiritual gifts unnecessary. Christians in general, though, believe that the Bible teaches that other spiritual gifts, such as teaching, exhortation, discernment and others, are always present to believers.

“Miracle gifts like tongues and healing are mentioned only in 1 Corinthians, an early epistle. Two later epistles, Ephesians and Romans, both discuss gifts of the Spirit at length — but no mention is made of the miraculous gifts,” explains an adaptation of MacArthur’s 1992 book Charismatic Chaos, published on the theologian’s Grace to You (GTY) ministry website. “By that time miracles were already looked on as something in the past (Heb. 2:3-4). Apostolic authority and the apostolic message needed no further confirmation. Before the first century ended, the entire New Testament had been written and was circulating through the churches.”

He adds, “The revelatory gifts had ceased to serve any purpose. And when the apostolic age ended with the death of the Apostle John, the signs that identified the apostles had already become moot (cf. 2 Cor. 12:12).”

Listing further Biblical evidence, the GTY.org writing suggests that “tongues were intended as a sign to unbelieving Israel (1 Cor. 14:21-22; cf. Is. 28:11-12). They signified that God had begun a new work that encompassed the Gentiles. The Lord would now speak to all nations in all languages. The barriers were down. And so the gift of languages symbolized not only the curse of God on a disobedient nation, but also the blessing of God on the whole world.”

The final Scriptural support given identifies the gift of tongues as “inferior to other gifts” and something that was “given primarily as a sign (1 Cor. 14:22) and was also easily misused to edify self (1 Cor. 14:4).”

“The church meets for the edification of the body, not self-gratification or personal experience-seeking. Therefore, tongues had limited usefulness in the church, and so it was never intended to be a permanent gift,” concludes the GTY.org resource titled “The Gift of Tongues.” MacArthur, who will tackle the issue in his upcoming Strange Fire conference, reiterates that view in a recent excerpt of his commentary on 1 Corinthians, in which he calls the gift of tongues “(t)he most controversial spiritual gift in our day.”

YOU CAN TITHE AND STILL BECOME BROKE

SINCE MOST CHRISTIANS ARE NOT CHRISTIANS WHY ARE WE SURPRISED THAT THEY LIVE AND WALK IN THE FLESH AND DO THE WORKS OF THE FLESH AND DON’T LIVE AND WALK IN THE SPIRIT? AND DEAD CHURCHES DEVOID OF MIRACLE SIGNS AND WONDERS PRODUCE DEAD PEOPLE.YOU CANNOT GIVE LIFE TO OTHERS IF YOU YOURSELF DON’T HAVE IT. YOU CANNOT LEAD OTHERS ANY FURTHER THAN YOU HAVE GONE YOURSELF. AND MOST PASTORS ARE HIRELINGS WHO ONLY KNOW SLIGHTLY MORE THAN THE SHEEP AND HAVE A FORM OF GODLINESS BUT DENY IT’S POWER? AND FINALLY YOU CANNOT SOLVE A PROBLEM UNTIL YOU ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. AND DECEPTION AND DENIALS IS VERY COMMON AMONG PROFESSING CHRISTIANS!

Many of God’s people have given money away from wrong reason or have sowed it into the bad soil of false ministries and have received back from God nothing in return. We must be wise with what we do with our money, talents, and blessings that God entrusts us with and not just give it a con man who comes along, even if he is a preacher!  Just because people tithe to a certain church or ministry doesn’t mean that they will not be robbed by that ministry. We have an example of this in the financial crash in 1999 of the Baptist Foundation of Arizona, resulted in the largest collapse of a religious financial institution in the nation’s history resulted with many elderly sheep robbed, hurt and devastated. The fact was that most of sheep were “tithers” and many didn’t understand how God would allow them to be robbed.

Through the ’90s, brochures extolled BFA’s “Biblically based” investment plans, and urged faithful Baptists to “do good by doing good,” becoming “bolder stewards of their God-given resources.” Helpful salesmen made house calls.” The Baptist Foundation pamphlets stated:

BFA’s Biblically-based stewardship perspective…

“Stewardship Investing” through the Foundation is a TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY TO BE FOUND FAITHFUL ABOVE and BEYOND the TITHE TO YOUR LOCAL CHURCH…

Do good while doing good…IT’S WISE STEWARDSHIP IN ACTION…

EACH YEAR, AN INDEPENDENT AUDIT of BFA is CONDUCTED BY ONE OF THE LEADING ACCOUNTING FIRMS IN THE NATION.

We know that for most of you, our common ties to the churches are one of the most important reasons you invest with BFA, CFP, and NCV, AND THOSE SAME TIES CAN HELP CARRY US THROUGH THESE DIFFICULT TIMES.

But the reality was that the Baptist Foundation of Arizona, a subsidiary of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest protestant denomination in America, used Southern Baptist pastors and former pastors as sales representatives to rob 13,000 mostly elderly Christians by promising high returns, the security of church backing, and the chance to help Baptist charities. It was nothing but a fraud and a big Ponzi Scheme.  As recounted by The Wall Street Journal, many of the foundation’s investors were elderly churchgoers “attracted by the foundation’s offer of above-market returns on promissory notes and other investment products, and by its mission of using earnings for good works, such as building churches and nursing homes for the poor. The foundation had become a Ponzi scheme, needing to raise tens of millions of dollars to pay the high returns it had promised to earlier investors. According to the lawsuits, a key reason why the scheme lasted “as long as it did … was that accounting firm of Andersen continued to certify the foundation’s financial statements and dismissed multiple warnings by individuals that the foundation was defrauding investors.” The foundation was organized to raise funds for Southern Baptist–related charities. However, it has contributed only about $1.3 million to such groups over its half-century of operation. By contrast, in 1996 BFA spent $16 million on staff salaries and $329,000 on staff automobiles. It also invested in a long series of shaky loans and dubious real estate deals, primarily with companies controlled by members of its board.

APOSTATE RICK-WARREN http://www.scribd.com/doc/136880990/

God’s house today is His people who are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are to do good to all men especially those of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10) and we are not to rob them by any means. The Top 10 scams[i] as listed by the North American Securities Administrators Association, ranked by the organization in order of prevalence or concern are:

1. Unlicensed individuals, such as life insurance agents, selling securities.

To verify that a person is licensed or registered to sell securities, call your state securities regulator. If the person is not registered, don’t invest.

2. Affinity group fraud.

Many scammers use their victim’s religious or ethnic identity to gain their trust –knowing that it’s human nature to trust people who are like you –and then steal their life savings. From “gifting” programs at some churches to foreign exchange scams targeted at Asian Americans, no group seems to be without con artists who seek to exploit others for financial gain.

3. Payphone and ATM sales.

In early March, 25 states and the District of Columbia announced actions against companies and individuals — many of them independent life insurance agents –that took roughly 4,500 people for $76 million selling coin-operated customer-owned telephones. Investors leased payphones for between $5,000 and $7,000 and were promised annual returns of up to 15 percent. Regulators say the largest of these investments appeared to be nothing but Ponzi schemes.

4. Promissory notes.

Short-term debt instruments issued by little-known or sometimes non-existent companies that promise high returns –upwards of 15 percent monthly –with little or no risk. These notes are often sold to investors by independent life insurance agents. In Indiana, 18 elderly investors lost some $1.4 million in a promissory note scam. An 80-year-old woman lost her life savings of $324,000. Interestingly, this is the scam that has been most used in Ponzi-scheme banking in Eastern Europe, notably Albania and Romania.

5. Internet fraud.

Scammers use the wide reach and supposed anonymity of the Internet to “pump and dump” thinly traded stocks, peddle bogus offshore “prime bank” investments and publicize pyramid schemes. Roughly half the states have Internet surveillance programs that watch for fraud or investigate investor complaints.

6. Ponzi/pyramid schemes. Always in style, these swindles promise high returns to investors, but the only people who consistently make money are the promoters who set them in motion, using money from previous investors to pay new Investors. Inevitably, the schemes collapse.

7. “Callable” CDs.

These higher-yielding certificates of deposit won’t mature for 10 to 20 years, unless the bank, not the investor, “calls,’. or redeems, them. Redeeming the CD early may result in large losses –upwards of 25 percent of the original investment. In Iowa. for example, a retiree in her 70’s invested over $100.000 of her 97-year-old mother’s money in three “callable” CD’s with 20 year maturities. Her intention, she told her broker, was to use the money to pay her mother’s nursing home bills. Regulators say sellers of callable CDs often don’t adequately disclose the risks and restrictions.

8. Viatical settlements.

Originated as a way to help the gravely ill pay their bills, these financial interests in the death benefits of terminally ill patients are always risky and sometimes fraudulent. The insured person gets a percentage of the death benefit in cash; investors get a share of the death benefit when the insured dies. Because of uncertainties predicting when someone will die, these investments are extremely speculative.

9. Prime bank schemes.

Scammers promise investors triple-digit returns through access to the investment portfolios of the world’s elite banks. Purveyors of these schemes often target conspiracy theorists, promising access to the “secret” investments used by the Rothschilds or Saudi royalty. In North Dakota, state securities regulators are alleging a small group of salesmen, including a local pastor, used religion and family ties to bilk investors out of $2 million in a prime bank scam.

10. Investment seminars.

Often the people getting rich are those running the seminar, making money from admission fees and the sale of books and audiotapes. These seminars are marketed through newspaper, radio and TV ads and “infomercials” on cable television. Regulators urge investors to be extremely skeptical about any get-rich-quick scheme.
