WATCH AND PRAY

AC
Watch and Pray

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. – Matthew 26:41

Have you ever been frustrated with the weaknesses of your flesh? Have you ever resolved never more to yield to a particular sin, yet when the temptation came, you fell right back into it?

It’s happened to all of us. Even the disciple Peter. He swore he would never deny Jesus…but he did it anyway, time and time and time again.

There is, however, something we can do to keep from falling prey to temptations like that. We can “watch and pray.” That’s what Jesus told Peter and the other disciples to do in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew they were about to be tempted, and He knew that the weakness of their flesh would overcome them if they didn’t strengthen their spirits through prayer.

That’s true for you and me too. That’s why in Jude 20 and 21, God tells us much the same thing that Jesus told the disciples that night. He says, “But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith… praying in the Holy Spirit: Guard and keep yourselves in the love of God” (The Amplified Bible). God knows even better than we do that our flesh has been trained to flow with the world’s stream. He knows that even though our born again spirits are reaching for God, our untrained flesh will always have a tendency to fall into sin.

So, He’s given us the ability to pray in other tongues, to strengthen our spirit and build it up until it takes ascendancy over our flesh. As we pray in the Spirit, Romans 8:26 tells us, the “(Holy) Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf” (The Amplified Bible).

Is it any wonder the Apostle Paul said, “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all!” (1 Cor. 14:18). It is one of the most powerful tools God has given us.

So don’t neglect to use it. Follow the instruction in Ephesians 6:18 and pray “always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…watching thereunto with all perseverance.”

Don’t make the mistake that Peter made. When temptation comes to your door, don’t let it catch you sleeping. Be prepared. Make sure your spirit is strong enough to rise above it.

FRUITS OR GIFTS?

Whenever people try to choose between the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5: 22 – 23) and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12: 6 – 8; 1 Cor. 12: 8 – 10) they are absolutely wrong. The Fruit of the Spirit develops the character of Jesus in us so that we can do the ministry of Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit using the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. To think that a Christian can be satisfied with only the “Fruit of the Spirit” is a completely false understanding. That is what James is trying to get people to understand when he wrote, “So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead” (Jas. 2: 17). We cannot have one without the others.

For instance, people who say that it is not necessary to speak in tongues (Acts 2: 4) , have no self-control over their tongues (i.e. their mouths and their human tongues) and what they say (Jas. 3: 1 – 12). The Gift of Tongues (languages) gives the Holy Spirit some control over what we say when we are witnessing (Acts 1: 8) and delivers messages from God to His people when used with the Gift of Interpretation of Tongues (languages). The ignorance of the Fruit of the Spirit is unbelievable. For instance, the Fruit of the Spirit which is translated as “meekness” or “gentleness” in Greek the word is “prautes” is describes a person who is 1. submissive to the will of God, 2. teachable in all things, 3. considerate of people’s needs, 4. it describes a person who gets angry at the right time and never at the wrong time and then takes the appropriate action to change the situation. It describes the cheetah which, when it has been fully trained for hunting acts on command of its master. The best example of that was when Jesus entered the Temple and said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers.” He then drove out all of the people who were selling the animals and the money-changers and upset their tables and prevented anybody to carry anything into the temple. Jesus was demonstrating that we are supposed to get angry at sin and then take the appropriate action to change the situation.

Paul never acted in sin. He acted under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and he had the authority to curse his enemies and get angry with those who opposed the Gospel and challenge them with the Scriptural Truth. We are told that Paul “argued” with those who opposed the Gospel (Acts 17: 2, 17; 18: 4; 19: 9) or another word is to “contend” (Jude 1: 3). It is interesting that there are some ignorant people who would accuse Paul of sinning, when he is used by God as an example of a person who demonstrated “meekness/gentleness” in his ministry. His so-called critics, interestingly, do not have their names or their wrong judgements recorded in the New Testament.

We are supposed to get angry at sin and take the appropriate action to correct the sinful actions. This is the reason why we are told by no one other than Paul, “Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil” (Eph. 4: 27). He wrote to Timothy, “By rejecting conscience, certain persons have made shipwreck of their faith, among them Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme” (1 Tim. 1: 19 – 20). In other words, using his authority, Paul revoked the salvation of these two men. That is the ultimate result of Paul exercising his authority in Jesus Christ. The Old Testament refers to “the anger of the Lord” (Ex. 4: 14 and 101 other places). We are supposed to get angry with sin and offer salvation, healing, deliverance. We are supposed to get angry with sin and use the “Signs Following” to deal with sin. We are supposed to get angry with sin and use the 15 Gifts of the Holy Spirit to change the situation of sin. But many people try to use the Bible to excuse themselves from coming under the authority of Jesus Christ and telling us that the ministry works that we read about in the Scriptures are either not for them or for the church of Jesus Christ today. They are rebellious people who do not like the work of the Holy Spirit and are living in denial. Their end will be as Jesus describe the penalty for acting like goats instead of faithful sheep (Matt. 25: 31 – 46). We are told by Jesus, “Do not judge by appearances; but judge with right judgment” (Jn. 7: 24).

Sin is supposed to make us angry and then with the Holy Spirit’s guidance we are supposed to take the appropriate action to correct the situation. To even suggest that Paul was sinning when he dealt with people who were in sin is completely false. But, it does tell us something about those who would attempt to disregard his teaching. It tells us that they, themselves, are in rebellion against the Gospel of Jesus Christ and have proven that they are out of God’s will. For you see Peter referred to Paul and commended his teaching. He wrote, “So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures” (2 Pet. 3: 14 – 16).

THE SOLUTION

Turn Your Cares Into Prayers & Pray in the Spirit

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; Philippians 4:6

My friend, God doesn’t want you to be fearful, fretful or anxious. Instead, He wants you to “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”.

So when you have a care or worry, straightaway, turn that care or worry into prayer. That is supplication. And when you are troubled by a care or worry that you don’t know how to pray for, pray in the Spirit or tongues. And in the midst of that prayer, thank God that He is already your healing, provision, prosperity, good success and victory. That, my friend, is thanksgiving.

“Pastor, if I am worried about something, how long should I pray?”

Keep on praying. Pray in the Spirit until the worry lifts or dissipates, “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”. (Philippians 4:7)

This was what one of our church members did when he found himself anxiously trying to access some important data in his USB flash drive. After a whole day at it with no results, he finally stopped himself from being anxious and instead, turned his worry into prayer, asking the Lord to settle it for him. As he prayed in tongues, he was also thankfully repeating in his heart that having the Holy Spirit — the Helper — with him was to his advantage. (John 16:7)

Later that evening, using his wife’s computer, he succeeded in accessing the data in his flash drive after a few attempts. He quickly backed up the data. It was only when subsequent attempts to use the flash drive on his wife’s computer failed did it suddenly dawn on him that God had “resurrected” his flash drive that one time, just for him to recover his data!

Beloved, I believe that we would all worry a lot less and enjoy our lives a lot more if only we realized this truth: Our Abba Father is so strong that there is nothing He cannot do, and He is so loving that there is nothing He will not do for us!

Thought For The Day
Our Abba Father is so strong that there is nothing He cannot do, and He is so loving that there is nothing He will not do for us!

Make Your Temple A House Of Prayer

Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves’.” Mark 11:17

It would be great if every time we prayed, the answers came quickly. Thank God for immediate results, but what do we do when the results are not immediate? The promises of God are there for us, but when they have yet to manifest in our circumstances, what should we do in the meantime?

Jesus showed us what to do. After He had cursed the fig tree, the tree did not wither immediately. (Mark 11:14) What did He do then? He went to the temple in Jerusalem and cleansed it, saying that it should be a house of prayer and not a den of thieves. (Mark 11:15–17) After cleansing the temple, when the disciples saw the same fig tree the next day, it had dried up from its roots! (Mark 11:20–21)

Today, you are the temple of God. (1 Corinthians 3:16) And your temple should be a “house of prayer” or it becomes a “den of thieves”. These thieves, or powers of darkness, will steal and rob from your temple, which is your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19) They will steal and rob you of your strength, health, youthfulness, wisdom, hopes and dreams.

So make your temple a house of prayer by praying in tongues frequently. (Ephesians 6:18) When you pray in the Spirit, you are praying perfect prayers. This is because the Spirit Himself makes intercession for you when He prays through you in tongues. (Romans 8:26)

FOOLISH ONES

LOVE MOST PEOPLE INCLUDING CHRISTIANS ARE FOOLISH. THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE NOT LIVING FOR THE PRESENT LIFE BUT FOR THE ONE IN THE FUTURE WHERE GOD’S REWARDS FAITHFUL SERVANTS WITH GREAT AND WONDERFUL THINGS AND CASTS UNFAITHFUL SERVANTS INTO OUTER DARKNESS:

MATTHEW 25:14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.
15    And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.
16    Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.
17    And likewise he who had received two gained two more also.
18    But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money.
19    After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20    “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’
21    His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
22    He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’
23    His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’
24    “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
25    And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’
26    “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.
27    So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.
28    So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
29    ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
30    And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth

When you know you’re God’s beloved, and that He’s on your side (Rom 8:31), you’ll trust Him to win the fights of life for you!  It doesn’t matter that are facing a seemingly impossible challenge, begin sharing your concerns with Jesus and thanking Him that His mighty hands are bigger than any problem. As you give thanks and magnify His presence in your life, His grace and power go to work on your behalf!

Job 42:10 And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

James 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

I pray God shows Himself strong in every area of your life. May the Lord’s presence be felt in your times of troubles, sickness, loneliness, helplessness and hopelessness. May the God of Hope fill your every void and cause you to come into His Love, Joy and Peace right now and forevermore in Jesus’ Name, Amen

Whatever you are facing today, rest easy knowing that Jesus not only perfectly understands all that you are going through, but has also placed all His power, authority and resources on your side to help you.

Father in Jesus name I come before your throne of grace. You are a God of promises and all your promises are yes and amen in Christ Jesus. Father I pray that lord let your presence fill your people. Lord I speak healing, deliverance and breakthrough in their life. I break all the powers of darkness in Jesus name. Jesus thank you for your presence and your love. I speak anointing of love and grace in Jesus name. I pray for those who are in tears and are broken. Lord give them your peace and fill them with your love. Jesus thank you for your love and grace. Lord I declare favor, healing, prosperity to your people. Show forth your goodness lord. You said It is finished on the cross.

Are you struggling or striving to make something happen? Maybe you need a breakthrough in your finances or in a relationship. It’s good to do everything we know to do in the natural, but we have to always remember that victory doesn’t come by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the living God.

Allow God to turn your mess into a masterpiece, your tragedy into triumph. He’s on your side!

“1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith.

IN THE SPIRIT

GOD

It is no secret the world is in turmoil. Virtually every news report and headline in today’s media broadcasts reports of doom and gloom. However, during this time, God’s people can receive wisdom and insight to soar above negative circumstances. He will enlighten your path so you will know what to do when you do not know what to do in your own ability. This light, or wisdom, that only comes from God is available to you through the Holy Spirit. Like pulling water from a deep well, you can draw spiritual solutions to life’s problems out of your spirit by praying the perfect prayer, which is praying in the spirit.

Praying in the spirit is one of the best ways to pray because when you pray in tongues, you pray the perfect will of God. Not only that; you also pray about things you are not aware of. Through tongues, the Holy Spirit intercedes for others through you, in a way that is superior to anything you could pray in your own language. The enemy cannot interfere with this type of prayer because he does not know what you are saying! In fact, your own mind, will, and emotions cannot even get in the way of your prayer.

Praying in tongues is an act of faith. It is praying in your heavenly language, one you did not know before. This is a supernatural ability that comes from God and fine-tunes your ability to hear His voice. While praying this powerful prayer, you depend solely on the wisdom of God, not your intellect. Human wisdom will fail in these last days. You will need to hear a Word from God to get the breakthrough you need.

Because of the misconceptions about praying in tongues, many people shy away from, and even get offended when you mention the subject. However, the ability to speak in an unknown tongue is a gift from God; it is the evidence of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside you and connects you to the mysteries of God.

When you pray in tongues, release your faith and ask God to give you the interpretation of those things you pray, He will speak things to your spirit that will blow your mind! You will receive revelation knowledge from Heaven, hidden wisdom to get ahead in every arena of your life. The Holy Spirit will help you pray according to God’s perfect will.

Every true born again Believer possesses the ability to speak in tongues, including you! There are some amazing breakthroughs God wants to bring to pass in your life, but He needs you to yield to His Spirit by praying in tongues. The revealed knowledge you receive through praying the perfect prayer will give you the edge you need to rise above any challenge. So, what are you waiting for?

Prayer and the Perfect Will of God

Intercessory prayer is the kind of praying that usually takes a lot of time, a lot of patience, a lot of labor, and a lot of steadfastness. We all seem to have prayer projects that are “dumped in our laps”, and the best way that I know of to pray for situations such as these is to pray in tongues, which is also known as “praying in the spirit”, as found in Ephesians 6:18: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,  Jude 201

Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.  Corinthians 14:13,14, &15

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:26-28

It’s good to wait on God in praying in tongues in the spirit until you begin to get the interpretation of what you’ve been praying about, because while you’re praying in tongues, you’re building yourself (your spirit man) up, but it is really unfruitful to your mind.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:14, For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.  And when you begin to pray the interpretation out, it can be a great help and relief to your mind. Praying in tongues and waiting on God in the sprit is going to help you to stay stable, because you can get so many voices coming to you that you’re not too sure what to believe. Then you get confused and frustrated.

We learn so much when we get over into the spirit. We get to know God personally, as well as developing the ability to pray things through, because there are some things that God’s going to give us to do that are never going to get done without ample time praying in the spirit. There are many people who’ve been baptized in the Holy Spirit, and who speak in tongues, but who have never developed their prayer life. These are those who have never become effective or fruitful in prayer. You can actually get to the place that nothing is working out in your life, and you feel so frustrated in your spirit man. That’s always a sure sign that there is too much flesh, and not enough spirit. You see, if we were able to accomplish this in the flesh, we could take the credit. But too many things cannot be accomplished in the flesh, and it takes the spirit.

The great thing about praying in the spirit is that it helps to pray for the unknown, and it helps you become much more effective in intercession. And if you stay with it, you’ll begin to get the interpretation from the Holy Spirit concerning what you’ve been praying about. So, if you sense that there’s something not right with you, or with something else that pertains to you, take some time out and put it in prayer and ask God what is going on. I just say it this way: “God, I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m going to begin to pray in the spirit, because I need You to show me what I need to know, as well as help me pray for the unknown.”

Usually, one of our biggest problems is that we spend too much time talking to people and not enough time in praying in tongues. I can guarantee you, that if you’ve got something in your life that you’re not getting the victory in, and you can’t understand what’s going on, you’re not putting enough time in prayer. And the more you talk about it with other people, the more you’re going to use human logic and reasoning, and the more time you’re going to let go by that you haven’t been praying. It’s not praying every day that is going to help; it is, did you pray enough today to get over into the spirit? If we don’t pray enough in the spirit every day, we run short of power, and that’s when things don’t work out. This causes people to wonder why things didn’t work out.

When we run low on power, we can’t resist the devil, and we limit and hinder God from working in our lives, for as we read in Ephesians 3:20: Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. We need the power of God built up in our spirit man so God can work out things in our lives. The way that God created us as spirit beings is that to enable us to be built up spiritually, we’ve got to pray in the Holy Ghost. As Jude 20 says, But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

I have a wrist watch that does not have a battery in it and you cannot wind it. In order for it to wind, it has to be worn, and the way the watchmakers designed it is that in order for it to keep on ticking, it has to be worn at least ½ hour every day, and it winds itself. Sure enough, if I let a day go by without wearing it, it quits running. It’s not the easiest watch in the world to set the time and date on, so that in itself makes it frustrating.

In the same way, we can’t let a day go by that we don’t pray enough to let ourselves get built up. When we don’t pray enough, we run short of the power. When that happens, we can’t hear from God the way we used to; we’re not walking in the spirit (but in the flesh), and then we get out of love and into strife. Now, we end up saying things with our mouth that we never should have said, and then we end up not repenting, because we no longer feel we’ve done anything wrong. After that, we end up losing our divine protection because our shield of faith came down. Finally, we find ourselves in some kind of huge mess, all because we didn’t take the time to pray in the spirit.

You show me someone who doesn’t pray in the spirit every day, and I’ll show you somebody who’s being led by their intellect and not by God. If they don’t make this correction, and get back over into the spirit, they’re going to end up over in God’s permissive will and they’ll miss out on His perfect will all together.

God made us and He gave us the wherewithal to get built up spiritually, and if we ignore it, we will be the ones to suffer. I am so embarrassed to admit it, or to think about it, but some of the most frustrating things that I found myself in all happened because I hadn’t put enough time in prayer. It was too much of me trying to solve the problem, and not enough of God. To make things worse, I knew better than to allow myself to get into that position, because when you get behind in prayer, you get behind in everything!

It’s amazing the kinds of things that come to you when you pray in tongues. All of a sudden, you get your answer. You begin to see what you have to do. I’ve never found anything that beat praying in tongues when it comes to building oneself up. So, if you haven’t started, let’s get started today and let’s get built up spiritually, so we can hear from God and be effective in praying for others, in Jesus’ Name.

CLARIFICATION ON TONGUES

With regards to speaking in tongues – more correctly: “new languages” (Mk. 16: 17) or “other national languages” (1 Cor. 12: 10).  When a person receives the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit gives us a real language spoken in the world today or in the past to speak and to pray with.  It is unknown to the person who speaks in the language.  It can be interpreted by either somebody who speaks the language or somebody who has the Spiritual “Gift of Interpretation of languages”.

There are not three different types of languages.  There is one language which has several uses:

1. proof of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Mk. 16: 17; Acts 2: 4; 10: 44).

2. to give messages to a church fellowship or individual which must be interpreted by somebody who has the Gift of Interpretation.  Tongues with interpretation is a “sign for unbelievers” while “prophecy is a sign for believers”  (1 Cor. 14: 22).

3.  tongues or the gift of languages are to be used in personal prayer (1 Cor. 14: 14 – 15).  And when we pray in the Spirit (language) the Holy Spirit will “utter mysteries in the Spirit”  which means that He will explain things to us that we do not understand.

4.  When a person prays in tongues (language), he or she will be edified.  This doe not just mean that a person will feel good.  It means that  a person will receive healing when they are praying for themselves using the language which the Holy Spirit has given them.

5. A person can be given more than one languages to speak with.  However in giving a message in tongues, the person who is giving it should not give the interpretation.  It should be somebody else who has the Gift of Interpretation (1 Cor. 14: 27).  If not, the person who gives the message will start to manipulate messages which will not be from the Holy Spirit but from themselves or an evil spirit or the devil.  Interpretation should be done by someone else who has the Gift of Interpretation of tongues (1 Cor. 14: 17).  In most church fellowships there will usually be two or more people who have the Gift of Interpretation of tongues and who will be able to agree on the interpretation.  This prevents people from giving messages that are not from self, a lying spirit or the devil. There was a man who was called Mr. Pentecost who had received seven different languages.

All public messages must be interpreted, not by the person giving the message but by someone else who has the Gift of Interpretation.   There has grown up a wrong teaching that there are two languages: 1. one which a person receives when they receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as initial evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit , and 2. one which is a “prayer language” which not everybody receives.  This is a wrong teaching.  We all receive a tongues language when we receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which is the same tongues language that we use in prayer and of which Paul writes, “Pray at all times in the Spirit  with all prayer and supplication” (Eph. 6: 18).

6.  The Gift of Speaking in Tongues or new languages or Other National Languages gives the Holy Spirit and us self-control over our tongues and what we say so we will no longer have cursing and blessings coming out of the same mouth (Jas. 3: 1 – 13).  Then the Holy Spirit can give us the right words to speak when we are arrested and give testimony we will be given what to say at the moment by the Holy Spirit (Matt. 10: 19).

And, we are supposed to listen to the Holy Spirit every day.  This is he reason why Jesus commanded each of the Seven Churches in the Book of Revelation, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (in Greek, every day) (Rev. 2: 7, 11, 17, 29; 3: 6, 13, 22).

And, by the way, when Jesus said, “And when he come, he will convict the world…..he will guide you into all the truth” (Jn. 16: 7 – 15), Jesus meant that the Holy Spirit can talk to us everyday in whatever our natural national languages are.  So, the Holy Spirit can speak to us in English or whatever languages you can normally speak.

The question that I am asked most is this, “Is it necessary for Christians to speak in tongues?”  Jesus said, “These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will ….. speak in new tongues” which means “new languages”. When we receive the Holy Spirit, He gives us the ability to speak and to pray in real languages spoken today or in the past which we have never learned before. The Greek word for “sign” as defined in the Greek Lexicon means: “a sign or distinguishing mark whereby something is known, sign, token, indication”. The four signs (Mk. 16: 17 – 18) identify authentic Christian Believers. Not everybody receives the Holy Spirit when they have their sins forgiven, as was the case on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:4) in Samaria (Acts 8: 15 – 16) or with Paul (Acts 9: 17) or John’s disciples (Acts 19: 6). On the Day of Pentecost, the people in Jerusalem were from many countries and they all heard the 120 people speaking in their own languages which they had never learned naturally (Acts 2: 8).

The “Gift of Speaking in Tongues (languages) is proof that the Holy Spirit is in us. This is God’s unique way to give us control over our mouths and what we say. It shows us that only the Holy Spirit can solve our mouth problem of which James reminds us that “but no human being can tame the tongue-a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (Jas. 3: 8). The “Gift of National Languages” (tongues: 1 Cor. 12: 10) is God’s unique “Communications System” which changes our personal prayer life (1 Cor. 14: 4, 15; Eph. 6: 18) and when combined with the Gift of Interpretation of Tongues can give messages from God to people in worship. (1 Cor. 14: 22, 27).

When Paul writes, “Are all apostles? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?” The answer is “NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! BECAUSE ALL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT”. There were two groups of people in the church, just like today, who rejected the necessity of the Baptism of Holy Spirit: unbelievers (apistos) and outsiders, not fully fledged Christians (idiotes) (1Cor. 14: 24). The same proof is necessary today or else as many people tell me, “There is something missing in me” or “I feel empty all the time” or “Why do I never hear the Holy Spirit speak to me everyday”.

Jesus explained that forgiveness makes us into new wineskins and the Holy Spirit is the New Wine (Lk. 5: 37 – 39). But he also warns, “And no one after drinking old wine desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better’.” In other words, the Holy Spirit does not taste the way that we think He should. Most church people do not like the taste or feeling the Holy Spirit gives them, especially when it is necessary to speak in the new necessary languages that He wants us to have. They go back to the old wine of their ineffective religion. We cannot rely on our feelings (Is: 55: 8).

Many people have written books about why it is no longer necessary to speak in tongues (languages) which proves that they do not have the Holy Spirit in spite of all of their eloquence. They may be religious people but not Spiritual people. It took me about six months to get accustomed to speaking in a language that I did not know and to later find out it was Portuguese. I like most people, had to acquire a taste for the New Wine. And, it opened up a new and exciting way of prayer. I was asked just a few days ago, “Did Jesus speak in tongues?” Yes, of course He did and does. He speaks in all the over 7,000 languages that are spoken on earth today. And through this unique Sign of Speaking in New Languages (Mk. 16: 17) as Jesus said, or as Paul says, “The Gift of Other National Languages” Jesus gives His church the ability to reach every language in the World.

If you have never received the real Baptism of the Holy Spirit, come to one of our meetings or call me on the phone and I will pray with you to receive the Holy Spirit with the signs following (Mk. 16: 17 – 18) of authenticity and proof that your salvation is secure (Eph. 1: 13 – 14).

God Answers Fervent Prayer

6f627-satisfiedwith

Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion!  Declare His deeds among the people.  When He avenges blood, He remembers them;  He does not forget the cry of the humble. Psalm 9:11-12

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.  And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. James 5:16-19

There is nothing more powerful in the universe than a fervent prayer based on a promise of God of a humble righteous man. It goes straight to heaven to the throne of God and produces great results. It brings changes both in the heavens and on earth that Kings and dictators can never do. We see this in the life of Daniel that when he prayed God would send an angel to bring his answers. The bible records for our profit and instruction:

Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions.  And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?”  Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever!  “My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.” Then the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God.   And the king gave the command, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions-them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den. Daniel 6:19-24

It was Daniel prayers that enabled his enemies to falsely accused him and get him put into a den of lions. But it was Daniel prayers that kept him safe there and cause his enemies to be cast them into the den of lions-them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den. Vengeance is mine says the Lord and He warned men not to touch His anointed ones or to harm His prophets.  Yes, Daniel was a man of prayer and he would fight principalities and powers who didn’t want his prayers answered and God would send an angel to tell him that God heard his prayer:

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar. The message was true, but the appointed time was long; and he understood the message, and had understanding of the vision.  In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.  Now on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, that is, the Tigris, I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.  And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my vigor was turned to frailty in me, and I retained no strength. Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.   Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands.  And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling. Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.  “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.  “Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come.” Daniel 10:1-14

Yes, those who are true men of God and true men of prayer know the powers of darkness that will come against them! But they don’t look to their circumstances, needs, lacks, bodies or things as they appear but unto God who has promised to give every victory and answer every prayer! They look to God who has already given them His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ and His wonderful counselor, the Holy Spirit, and will freely with Christ give them all things (Romans 8:32)! Yet God’s word is unchanging:

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

While God’s eyes are upon us and so are Satan’s who walks about like a roaring lion seeking those whom he may devour. We are not ignorant of his devices including attacking people in their dreams or in person. But one thing about the devil that is to be noted is that he is on a time clock. Time is on our side. Time is his enemy. Satan can not afford to keep up the attack. Often times, we will actually be set free or receive our break-through and yet not see it in the flesh nor the reality of it. This is especially true with demonization. The enemy will continue on with a very convincing charade of similar activity but the power of it has gone out. The devil or demon is trying desperately for us to give up and return to our previous condition. This is where the faith of the person under attack must be brought up to speed. We are not to listen to the unclean lying spirits. We have been set free. We are to “submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you “ (James 4:7). God’s word is unchanging:

And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Matthew 10:1

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

Unlike most Christians today, Jesus Christ didn’t deny the influence of unclean spirits on the lives of people but stated that “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. “Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. “Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first” (Matthew 12:44-45).

Fundamentalists Christians have debated to the nth degree on whether a Christian can be possessed and could have an evil spirit residing in the same place as the Holy Spirit. While it is true that the Holy Spirit resides in the spirit of man and can be grieved and depart from a man just like He did from King Saul, there is nothing preventing unclean spirits to be like leaches and take partial possession of a person’s body or soul. Evil spirits live and work in bodies and our flesh provides them with a good habitat. Many Christians are possessed by a spirit of greed, depression, lust, lying, adultery, pride, arrogance, control, dissension, heresy, and other unclean spirits. If they would only be discerning and deal with these unclean spirits they will find the freedom of life and victory that they never knew. Here are some of the unclean spirits that attach themselves to people: FRUSTRATION, INCOHERENCE DOUBT, SKEPTICISM, UNBELIEF, INDECISION, COMPROMISE, CONFUSION, FORGETFULNESS, INDIFFERENCE, PROCRASTINATION,SELF DECEPTION, PRIDE, SELF SEDUCTION, SELF DELUSION,MIND BINDING, CONFUSION, FEAR OF FAILURE, FEAR OF MAN

If a blood sucker would attach itself to their body they would remove it, but when a unclean spirit attaches itself to them they leave it alone! They don’t come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. How strange and foolish? But God’s word is unchanging:

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.  Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:20-26

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Revelation 16:13-14
Yes, the Word of God tells us to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. This is something that God will not do for us, unless we ask Him for help, wisdom and discernment to deliver us from all familiar and unclean spirits and other spirits including spirits of infirmity.

Many people are bound by the spirit of infirmity and demons even today. Only our gracious Lord Jesus Christ can deliver them from such spirit of infirmity. Irrespective of the nature of our infirmities and the number of years we suffer from, only our Almighty God can grant us complete deliverance from such infirmities as well as any other unclean spirit. If it foolish that according to some Christians non Christians can be delivered out of the influence of demons, while Christians possessed by a spirit of greed, depression, lust, lying, adultery, pride, arrogance, control, dissension, heresy, and other unclean spirits can find no deliverance? This doesn’t make sense at all! But God’s word is unchanging:
Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Since sanctification is a continual process and as long as we are living in a frail mortal body, nobody arrives at perfection or from being foolish, disobedient, deceived serving various lusts and pleasures living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. When ever we get out from walking in the Spirit we are immediately walking in the flesh and subject to the works of the flesh including adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like.
We are instructed in the Word of God to Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:11. 1 Timothy 3:7) and not to give room to the devil (Ephesians 4:27) nor give place to the devil. But to put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry (Romans 8:13, Colossians 3:5). Just like the Holy Spirit anoints and empowers people to do good the devil anoints and empowers people to do evil. The sad part is the Christians cannot discern the wiles of the devil because according to standard religious teaching the gift of discernment doesn’t work against Christians. Hogwash! Annais and Saphira where Christians and Apostle Peter by the Spirit of the Lord discerned that they had lied to the Holy Spirit and he told them But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? (Acts 5:3). Satan filled the hearts of believers to lie to the Holy Spirit and religious ones tell us that Christians cannot be influenced by the devil. What a lie from the pits of hell!

The bottom line is that God’s people need to repent and renounce all familiar spirits that have entered their lives through whatever means possible and be delivered from all the lies and deceptions of familiar spirits by the power and anointing of God. They need to pray:

Satan, I renounce you, and I take back all the ground that I ever yielded to you. God is my source of wisdom, knowledge, guidance, victory, strength, might  and power. In Jesus name I declare total and complete victory over every enemy! You familiar spirit and unclean leave me in the name of Jesus. Lord Jesus, I belong to You. You have saved me and redeemed me by Your blood. I have need of no spirit other than the Holy Spirit. Forgive me Lord for having sought from other spirits that which should only come from You. I renounce and separate myself from all familiar spirits, however acquired. I call upon You, Lord, to deliver me from the lies and deceptions of familiar spirits, all the works and wiles of the enemy and to heal me of all their works and all things. Teach me Your truth and Your ways and fill me with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. It is my earnest desire to walk by your Spirit in Your will and to glorify Your name. Amen.

“Pastor, how long must I pray?”

Well, how often in a day does the enemy attack you with fears, anxieties and worries? How often does that disease in your body remind you that it is there? How healthy and whole do you want to be?

Beloved, as you make your temple a house of prayer, the powers of darkness that have been stealing or robbing from you will be driven out of your life completely. You will see the manifestation of what you have spoken over your circumstances and you will see the withering of what you have cursed!

Thought For The Day
Make your body, God’s temple, a house of prayer by praying in the Spirit frequently.

THE FLESH PROFITS NOTHING!

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Many Christians pray and pray and don’t get their prayers answered because they don’t have the favor of God as they live, walk and pray in the flesh and not in the spirit!

God’s wills the best for each of his children but He cannot give it to them as long as they walk in the flesh and not in the spirit!

Many so called Christians don’t understand the importance of tongues and why God doesn’t answer many times their prayers of the flesh for the following reasons:
1) What ever is not of faith is sin! And tongues is of faith!
2) Tongues is God Himself praying for and about the problem!
3) In the flesh you don’t have a clue as to what is the real problem and what is the real solution because you are only flesh?
4) But in the Spirit, ie tongues, God knows everything! He prays for you about everything and He answers Himself. He cannot say no to Himself?
5) When you pray in tongues you open the door way to the manifestations of all the gifts of the Spirit including miracles, healing, knowledge, wisdom, discernment, which help to come up with a speedy solution to the problem
6) one of the greatest problem with Christians besides not reading their bible daily is they don’t pray in tongues!

Now what did apostle Paul say about tongues?
1 CORINTHIANS 12:
7  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.
1 CORINTHIANS 14:
1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

AN IMPORTANT GUIDELINE TO ANSWERED PRAYER IS:
1) Are you Baptized with the Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues?
2) Do you fellowship with or have friends who are also Baptized in the Spirit?
3) Do you pray with these friends the prayer of agreement concerning anything and everything:
Matthew 18:19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
If you have forgiven anybody and everybody for anything and everything then your prayers of agreement are unhindered and powerful
4) Ask God for wisdom according to James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
5) Do you pray in tongues daily according to Jude 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS US :

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. – Romans 8:26

The Holy Spirit is not inside you to point out your faults or nag at you when you do wrong. God’s Word tells us that He is inside us to help us in our weaknesses. In areas where we are without strength, He is there to help us. When we don’t know what to pray, “the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered”.

Now, don’t read the verse and say, “Well, I don’t know what I should pray for, and since the Holy Spirit makes intercession for me, I will leave the praying to Him.”

If the Holy Spirit, without our participation, makes intercession for us, then every Christian would be living victorious lives automatically! But we know that there are many Christians who don’t seem to be walking in the fullness of God’s blessings. So obviously, Romans 8:26 is not saying that. What is it saying then?

In the first part of the verse, the word “helps” is sunantilambanomai in the original Greek text. It means “to take hold together against”. Now, “together” means that our participation is required. In other words, the Holy Spirit sunantilambanomai or takes hold together with us against the problem.

So if you just sit back and don’t take hold of the problem, the Holy Spirit has nothing to “take hold of” with you. If you don’t pray, He has nothing to pray. If you keep quiet, then even if He wants to pray through you, He can’t. But when you release your prayer in tongues, you are actually allowing Him to pray through you. And He will take hold together with you against the problem, and pray the perfect prayer through you because “He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God”. (Romans 8:27)

And you can be confident that when you ask anything according to the will of God, He hears you. And if you know that He hears you, whatever you ask, you know that you have the petitions that you have asked of Him! (1 John 5:14–15)

Thought For The Day:

When you pray in the Holy Spirit, He takes hold together with you against your problem.

Be Filled With the Holy Ghost

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God (Ephesians 5:18-21).

Having received the Holy Spirit after you’re born again, there’s a day-to-day or continual infilling of the Spirit that you must experience in order to live the higher life of glory to which you’ve been called. The latter part of our opening scripture lets us know what to do to be filled with the Spirit like this: you’ll have to speak to yourself in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs! You’ll have to consciously talk, sing, and make melody of the Word, in your heart, to the Lord! You’ll have to give thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and submit yourself to others in holy reverence. Making this a conscious and consistent practice is how to be full of the Spirit all the time.

When you let the Holy Spirit work through you and you’re overflowing with His fullness, you won’t need to try to muster boldness to say or do things. You won’t need to try to stir up some power in the face of adversity. Whenever you open your mouth to speak, you’ll speak the wisdom of God; words that are divinely inspired, because you’re full of the Holy Ghost.

If you want the greater glory of God to be seen in your life; if you want to walk in dominion over the devil, sickness, disease, infirmities and death, then you must consciously and consistently practice being filled with the Spirit these remaining days of October. Make this a personal goal from today, and the challenges that may come your way will be walkovers for you, and nothing will be impossible unto you. You’ll be able to change hopeless situations and walk in God’s increased glory because you’re full of the Holy Ghost and power. Hallelujah!

Receiving the Holy Spirit Is for You

During the time of Jesus, Pentecost was an annual Jewish festival, also known as the “Feast of Weeks,” or the “Day of Firstfruits,” a celebration of the first buds of the harvest. (Num. 28:26.) Jewish men were required by law to go to Jerusalem three times each year to celebrate the major feasts and Pentecost was one of them. It took place seven weeks and a day after Passover.

On the day of Pentecost, over one hundred disciples of Jesus were gathered together in Jerusalem in an upper room. In this group were Peter, James, John, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, Mary, the mother of Jesus, and His brothers, to name a few. Then something happened that had never happened before.

“Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:2,4).

When this sound occurred, the Bible says, “the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language” (v. 6).

Now, let’s look at what happened here. Jesus had been crucified and raised from the dead. He appeared to the disciples and taught them for forty days and then He ascended into heaven. The disciples of Jesus were in the Upper Room on the day of Pentecost and the room had been filled on the inside with the sound of a mighty wind. The disciples all spoke in tongues – all the disciples, all of the brothers of Jesus, and even Mary, the mother of Jesus. As they were speaking in tongues, all of the travelers from different regions who spoke different languages each heard the disciples speaking in their own native language. Needless to say, everyone was greatly amazed. Shocked may be a closer word. Some started saying, “What does this mean?” (v. 12.) And just as today, others stood by mocking, calling them drunks. (v. 13.)

Then Peter stood up with the other eleven disciples and raised his voice and began to explain what had happened. He told them that it was the fulfillment of a prophecy that was spoken by the prophet, Joel. He told them about Jesus and how He was crucified. He told them that God raised Jesus from the dead.

When Peter concluded his sermon, he made a very important statement: “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2:38,39).

Peter said that the gift of the Holy Spirit was not just for the one hundred twenty in the Upper Room, but that the gift of the Holy Spirit was for all those who were listening to him. Then he said that receiving the Holy Spirit was for their children and for all who are far away. In other words, receiving the Holy Spirit is for everyone who desires to receive Him. That includes you and me.

In Luke 11:13, Jesus said, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Believe in Jesus, ask, and receive.

Demonized ones and Demons

Demonized ones, who are not saved and cannot demonstrate the gifts of the Spirit including tongues, talk about the fruits of the Spirit which in reality they don’t have because they are only critics and carnal ones and not true believers!

Demonized ones and Demons despise the gifts of the Holy Spirit and cause men to despise them. Why? Because the operation of these supernatural gifts of power counter the work of demons. Their presence and wiles are exposed by the discerning of spirits and the word of knowledge. Their evil is undone by the word of wisdom, faith, gifts of healing and miracles.

Their plans bring harm are thwarted by a (timely word of prophecy or by tongues with interpretation. No wonder demons so strongly oppose these gifts!

These nine gifts were also given to the church for its edification. Satan is the enemy of the church and sets himself against that which is designed to build up the Body of Christ. He makes strong thrusts at the gifts, and especially at tongues which has a special purpose in the edification of the individual believer. (See I Cor. 14:4)

If the person experiencing deliverance has not been baptized in the Holy  Spirit he should be encouraged to receive this baptism and to desire the spiritual gifts. We have seen many persons receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit as the climax of a ministry of deliverance. The empowering of the Holy Spirit is important in retaining one’s deliverance.

Those who already have the baptism in the Holy  Spirit should be encouraged to “covet earnestly the best gifts” (I Cor. 12:31), and the best gift is the one that will minister to the needs of others in any given situation. It is quite common that hindrances to the gifts are removed through deliverance. There are specialist demons who seek to block the operation of spiritual gifts. After deliverance the house should be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.
